Good Morning everyone. Yes the morning watch is here. Got up at 4:45am and has taken me one hour to read through all of your posts. I find now, I have to take notes lol.

Its a chilly morning. "Rain drops keep falling on my head." But I have my tent set up by the fire. Can still keep warm and feel the heat from the campfire. I heard a wolf howling in the background today. What a pretty sound!

Mena: Thanks for having coffee ready. I needed it this morning. Im glad the treatment is done. Hope you are resting well. Come to the medic tent. We have all kinds of stuff to make you feel better. And some nice chicken soup to soothe your soul.

debbyfive: Oh my, I am so upset hearing about your son. I hope all is OK. Boy, sometimes we feel like our world is crumbling around us. We are here for you. I walked over to your wagon. Oh my, you should see all of the candles lit. Your wagon is truelly illuminated with love, hope, and peace. The candles were so bright, I almost needed my sunglasses - and its still dark outside.

Leigh: Im so glad you have come to the wagon circle. And big congratulations on finishing treatment. It feels good doesnt it?

Jeannette: Once you get past the financial part, getting a new car is so much fun. Good luck and I hope you get your dream car.

Vickie: I am so hoping there is a happy end to Trenton's plight. Its a very sad story. At this point, you would normally hear the police were giving up. But they arnt, and they still have hope they can find him alive. Now that would wonderful news.

Amy: your donkey story just cracked me up. Oh how I wish I had a real horse and and real baby horse. It would be fun watching them. Oh my, thanks for the candy. Im gonna make some homemade fudge and contribute it to your wagon.

Christine: Im making a special batch of fudge for you. No sugar. Made with splenda, and if I didnt tell you, you wouldnt no it. So enjoy. I too am off carbs but for different reasons.

Robin - sweet Robin: We have been through this recent ordeal with you from the start. You have been such a trouper. Yes we will be there next Wednesday. I cant sing so well, I sound like Linday McCartney used to sound like. But I have an Italian finger, and I can wave it really good. One hand on my hip, and the other hand waving that finger telling everyone to be nice to you. With all of our positive energy, the scans must come out showing improvement. I feel it in my heart. Good luck!!

Jeannie: Its so wonderful to hear some good news. Im so glad the surgery went well. And a new nipple to boot. I see my PS on 9-27, to discuss the nipple issues. Im so torn. I am so tired of treatment and Im thinking I will bypass the nipple. But who knows, Ill make that final decision on the 27th.

Cheryl: Im so sorry that your back is still so sore. Im hoping you will feel better really soon. Are you getting any treatment from physical therapy? Sometimes they can do ultrasound treatments and deep massage. Anyways, hoping you get better.

DebL: The LE stinks. But hey, 2 weeks down for the rads already. How in the world are you typing with one hand?

NS: This chocolate fountain thing is so funny. When I went to the party this past Sunday, I cracked up, because they had a chocolate fountain too. Its the new fad and sounds so yummy.

The rain has stopped. The ground is moist. I can hear the ground crackle as people are walking. Some are getting up now, others are doing a wagon check, making sure all of you in the middle of the circle are doing well.

Hoping you all have a wonderful day. Im so excitied the weekend is near. TGIF. Maybe I will get to spend more time with you all.

Chuckling a bit here as someone mentioned that they need to start taking notes and I actually did that yesterday! I so hate to write and exclude anyone and I want you ALL to know that you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

NS...we're going to have to drag your niece along on our wagon train doctor visits with her chocolate fountain as we are getting a pretty big wagon train going here!!!

Alaska Deb...so sorry about your arm and your loneliness...rads will be done before you know it...I was surprised at how fast mine went. Sending you a hug.

Mena...I too am holding out hope for Trenton AND you...those tumors are not just shrinking honey...they are disappearing as we speak! The power of positive thinking!

Nicki...I have the same feeling about Trenton but my daughter no longer does...she is giving up hope no matter what I say. Her fear now is that they will never know.

Western omelets, homefries and sausage here with hot coffee or chocolate and crispy creme donuts.
Cold morning so I'll stoke the fire and bring extra blankets until the fog burns off.
    Have a lovely day all
    Hugs

    Deb--
I sent you a big long PM the other day after your package arrived---did you get it? I don't see it on my messages sent list. If not I'll try and remember what I said (HA---like that'll work!) and try again.

Arriving here for my mid morning watch as I have work to do when I first arrive. Dang work always gets involved with pleasure.

Debbyfive--so great to get good news on your son! Glad he is home and recuping. Now if we could only get great news about baby Trenton.

Mena, it was me that needed a name for their horse except its a donkey. (somebody always has to be different ya know) Anyway, great name but its a girl. I actually have a name and nobody laugh... It's not literary at all. I named her Lucy-Lucy in the sky of diamonds. She reacted to it well as if that had been her name all along. I had called her several things and she would just look at me as if to say, no I dont like that one. I called her Lucy and her tail starting wagging and she stepped forward and stuck her nose to me. I figure she liked it so I went with it. Now I am Molly, Mae and Lucy and of course 2 goats named Maggie and Millie which Maggie is pregnant so there will be another name game going on. Also Mena, where do I get Sarno? I bought udder cream yesterday when I went to the CO-OP on my lunch to get a 50 gallon poly tub for water. You know your life is changing when you are shopping at the CO-OP!!!???!!! Is that a good thing? Whats even more scary is that I found so much I wanted to buy. I did get some apple crisp treats for the donkeys and goats and they liked them last night.

Robin-I will be saddled up and ready for the ride in for your test. Awful early but what better way to start the day but with good news that your cancer is shrinking. I just know it is and wont take no for an answer.

jeannie-Wow a nipple,,thats great. I didnt do the recon thing so not only am i nippleless I am boobless also. Great to hear you have yours.

AlaskaDeb-I know you are lonely after having so much company at once and the arm swelling doesnt help. I am sure it is a flare up from the rads because that is common. Hopefully your specialist will work her magic and keep the swelling down. Rads will pass quickly and you can get back to your family.

NoSurrender-I couldnt help but laugh out loud about the chocolate fountain. Dip one for me! Well ok maybe more than one.

NewVickie thanks for the western omelets and home fries. they were excellent. Such a nice meal on a rainy morning. Great thinking!

The rain has stopped here also but the ground is wet. I have thrown some big logs on the fire to keep us toasty warm. The rain is due to be back for the weekend here so I threw a tarp over our firewood to keep it dry because we may need a big fire to dry out some of our things. I have fresh hay in the barn for the horses and donkeys because lord knows they wont eat it if it gets wet or if its on the ground. Spoiled animals. Well, I am off to ride the circle and to keep things safe.

Here's to everyone having a great Friday to start off their weekend. Stay dry! Amy

Good evening everyone. It is such good news to hear that debbiefives son is ok. Thanks for the update Carrie.

Shirley Larson, well come on in. But ya better watch it, we talk an awful lot about food. Im getting fat just reading.

Mena: I hope your doing ok after yesterdays treatment.

So for dinner, lets start with some French Onion Soup. Nice and warm and yummy too. Its made with vegetable broth. No meat for our vegen friends. I do have some toasted french bread, mozzarella, swiss, and parmesain cheese. So just choose your toppings. I will bake it over the fire so those of you who choose cheese - it will be all melted and yummy.

I also have all the fresh vegetable that I cooked in the water to get the broth. Oh some good ones. Carrot, Celery, Zucchini, baby egg plants, and potatoes. They taste pretty darn good.

    Dessert. We need dessert.

Its been a rough week. TGIF!! And Im gonna do absolutely nothing. Gonna lay around all day for 2 days and just enjoy.

And to my good friend sherry - hoping things are going just great for you! Just saying hey hey hey.

    Talk to ya all later.

Afternoon check in here also. I have slid my wagon over for Shirley to pull on in. There is always room for wagon girls. Pull up, set back, enjoy the good food and conversation. You can sleep late or get up early with the early morning watchers if you want. There is always somebody around in this circle. There is plenty of firewood and Nicki warned you about the food.

Speaking of food lets see...... we can have cheesecake since that seems to be every night but we must have something else for variety. I will give it some thought on that and try to come up with something we have not had. (That might be a tough one)

I want to add somebody to the inner circle and it isnt breast cancer at all but ovarian cancer. I graduated with her so she is my age-38. She was diagnosed about 6 months ago and no chemo is working. In fact it started growing faster. She has been to Anderson and all reports faxed to Sloan and everything has been tried that they know to try. They inserted a pain pump for her today and she is going home with hospice care this weekend or Monday. I just cant seem to grasp it that something cant be done. I am having a hard time with this one. I know partly because we are the same age and I do know her but its not fair. Please keep Dana in your thoughts!

Sorry to end with such sad news but its laying on my mind and I knew just where to bring it. I am normally the upbeat kinda person and things dont get to me but this is hitting me hard.

Lots of love to everyone and I do hope everyone has a great weekend. I am off to the country to trade in my wagon for the weekend for my camper that is my picture. I will be taking care of my donkeys and hopefully getting some fencing done. Somebody take my watch while I am away but I will be back Monday with bells on but none of that stinking pink stuff.

I posted a lemon pineapple pie recipe on the recipe thread the other day. It's even the lo-cal version. It's very good - we could have that instead of cheesecake for a change!

Been awfully busy around here - I try to keep up with the thread, but don't get much chance to post. I tried to last night, but with the high winds we had, I kept getting kicked off the internet!

My thoughts & prayers are with you all! Ronda

Howdy ladies! I have been busy and *oh my goodness* the new posts have piled up!

Just a quick update: I went to the surgeon's office yesterday and the reason they wanted my films was because my case has taken an 'interesting' turn and my surgeon wants to present to the tumor board for discussion. My final path report had 2 surprises. One was that 1 of the 3 lymph nodes taken had a very small amount of cancer. Apparently for treatment and prognostic purposes, it is still considered negative, but I don't like it one bit. The 'interesting' thing was that there was an additional 3mm of cancer found in the re-excision tissue. WTF? The margins were supposedly clean the first time and she was just going in to get wider margins! In addition the MRI showed no further cancer in that area! Now, there is a very small but still clean margin for that area, but she cannot take any more tissue to get a larger margin because we are right up against the chest muscle at this point. She said that the radiation and chemo will get rid of anything else that may be lingering. But still scary. I am glad to get the advantage of a tumor board review, which will give me many different opinions without the legwork!

Debbyfive, my heart was breaking for you, but as I read on I saw the VERY good news and I am rejoicing for you! You must be so relieved!

Mena, hope you are feeling well after your treatment. But I am sure with all your spunk, it would take a lot more than a little chemo to dampen your spirits for long!

Leigh and Shirley, welcome! I just moseyed into the circle myself, but am so enjoying getting to know everyone. The support and love here is unmatchable!

Cheryl, I sure hope your back feels better soon.

Amy, so sorry to hear about your friend Dana. I will keep her in my prayers.

Circle girls, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    *Hugs*

OK girls, it's Friday nite and time to kick up the heels. No tests or any or medical thing for a couple of days I hope.

We can cozy to the camp fire - bring a favorite mug of something, and perhaps if one of us had a guitar we can croon to the moon.

Tomorrow is the autumnal equinox. Oh, although I love Fall, here in the foothills it seems to kiss and run. I ewould love to do a quite walk in the woods of Vermont (OK, Northern NY or MA will do) and sniff those leaves as they begin to let go and cover the forest floor.

The Natives here have taught me that Mother Nature needs to rest, and that the fall and winter are just as important as the warmer seasons. Let's try to remember that when she is deep asleep under 3 fet of snow.

Meanwhile lets stoke the fire and cuddle up.

How 'bout a hot apple pie drink. It's equal parts of apple juice, cranberry juice, simmered with cinnamon sticks and cloves. Pour a shot of brandy in a mug and fill with the hot juice combo and top with whipped cream. I also like to add a peppermint stick for stirring. That should keep us nice and warm by the fire. It's just as good without the brandy for those that don't want any extra spirit. I do love fall although it makes me feel a bit melancholy. Hope everyone is safe and warm tonight.

Don't y'all just love this fall weather? It's so nice & cool here tonight, such a relief after the heat we've had.
Lini - I'll have my drink with the brandy! Sounds like a good warmer upper! One of my favorites for this time of year is simply kahlua & coffee. Put enough Kahulua in, and you don't have to worry about the coffee keeping you awake. haha!
I'm thinking about Fiesta Chicken Chili for supper tomorrow - I can do spicy or not so spicy, whichever all y'all like best. I posted the recipe on the recipe thread earlier. It's pretty good.
Are any of you guys in Louisiana? We're planning a Dutch Oven Gathering (DOG) for next September (2007) at a lake near Farmerville. Gonna be fun & lots of good food!
I can't remember all the posts I read tonight, but wish everyone the best. I won't be up early tomorrow but will check in sometime. Ronda

With for me too Lini! Fall makes me a little blue too...I'm not sure why. I love winter, but always morn for my flowers fadeing. I like Jeannette's thought of the earth resting though.

Amy, give you baby donkey a scritch behind the ears for me! Right on the fuzzy spots I love donkeys and mules. When I can type better remind me to tell you the story of a neighbor that had tons of mules.

I can't type fast enough with one hand to wish everyone well in person, but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

The wrapping on my arm REALLY shrunk the lymphodemia in just 2 days. I got a lymph draining massage this morning and then my PT rewrapped me. She said we might be able to measure me for a custom compression sleeve by mid week next week.

My baby girl turns 12 tomorrow! How did this happen? She is turing into a beautiful young lady in front of my eyes. We have a BUSY weeken (what's new?) Cross Country race, birthday party and a BBQ at church. It should be a lot of fun.

    Hugs and prayers for all...

    Hello Circle Girls!

I am so thankful about Debby’s son! And we will be by your side on Friday!

    Hey there Shirley! Welcome!!!

Cheryl I hope you have a great time at your retreat and that your back cooperates for you.

Jeannie, Is it cold out here or did you just get a nipple?

Mena this new Tx IS working!!!

Shel, is Fonzi back yet? Because I just heard Chachi had some of Nicki’s Onion Soup and they are running away together… so that leaves Ralph and Mr. C. I hope the Fonze hurries!

Amy and Deb- LOL! Who is going to DIP into that fountain??? I am bringing a GLASS!

And Vickie she is my sister…! yep, I have a 16 year old sis!
I am so sorry about your friend Dana… Let’s make her some of Lini’s delicious apple drink and pull her close to the inner circle.

Kristin I just wanted you to know that all the docs were worried about my tumor and my chest wall…. We relied on chemo and rads… that was five years ago. So take some comfort in that, OK?

Robin I hope you are ok… and that this new week of tx hasn’t been too rough.

Haven’t heard from Pennylane, Hope you are ok sweetie.

And Lisa, enjoy the weekend with your babies. You WILL have a plan and you WILL be fighting this beast back. Just take a break from all of it and enjoy the first weekend of fall – let all of this go and just be you- Lisa the mom, mother, wife, sister, and friend. Lisa the warrior can get back to work on Monday.

And yes, Jeannette is so right, Autumn is upon us. Time to slow down and catch our breaths. Even though it means an end to summer, there is something of a fresh start to fall and everything seems new again.

I am like Lini, a bit melancholy too. I am a beach girl who loves to garden and now I will be trading my flip flops for socks and turn to feathering my nest indoors…

But then again, the beach is somehow so much more beautiful when the cold weather comes… and nature does need to rest and renew.

My wish and prayer for this Fall is that all the girls undergoing new tx, dx’s, surgeries and scans, get a rest and a fresh start too. That their cares disappear as the leaves fall away and the trees show off their architecture… that on this Thanksgiving we will be in the Circle at our LOOOOONG table thankful for all the GOOD NEWS we have heard about everyone who has been enduring so much now.

Let us get ready to set that table by holding each other just a little closer, telling each other how much they mean to us, and let us pray that all of the hard things our inner circle girls have been going through will be a thing of the past very soon and we will all celebrate together.

Today is the Jewish New Year and tradition is that sweet things are eaten for a sweet new year ahead… everyone have some apples, or honey or anything sweet tonight in honor of our inner circle girls… It is time for them to have some sweetness come their way again…

You girls have been through so much - it is now your turn to catch some breaks and enjoy things again... we will help you any way we can.

    Love you all, g

Jeanette - a Dutch oven gathering is just a bunch of folks who like to cook in cast iron pots. We cook outside, either over campfires or charcoal. It's an addiction really, we call it "castironitis." Food seems to taste much better cooked outside, and since I enjoy outside more than inside anway, it's a great way for me to cook. I actually wasn't much of a cook until I started doing this! The "camp" ovens have legs, so you can put coals under them and also on the lid. If you can fix it in the house oven, or on the stove top, you can do it in a dutch oven. It just tastes better cooked in cast iron, and it's more fun!
The Dutch oven was recently made the official state cooking utensil of Texas, and even though we don't live in TX ourselves, we have lots of TX friends. We go there every year to cook with friends, and it's wonderful. I guess I need to figure a way to share pictures with y'all.
We cook more from scratch now than we ever did before. I still occasionally use bacon grease for cooking (heaven forbid!) but hubby & I have had our cholesterol checked and we're both good. Doug has actually lost weight, and not because he doesn't eat!
If you want to learn more about it, you can go to lsdos.com (lone star dutch oven society), or idos.com.
We started about 3 years ago with one dutch oven, and I now have about 15 - haven't counted them lately. I've got 3 5", 1 8", 2 10" regulars, 2 10" deeps, 2 12" regulars, 3 12" deeps, a 14" and a 16", plus a sportsmans cooker, a combo cooker, several CI skillets, and a 10" with no legs that I use on the stove top. Cast iron cooking is the best! Ronda (and no, I don't sell the stuff!)

Good morning, early watch has just arrived. Since it's my day off, I gave myself a break today. Got up at 5am instead of 4:30!! Guess you could say I slept in lol.

Its a quiet morning. The ground is wet and there is a chill in the air. I hear a Cardinal chirping in the background. Apparently didnt like the storms we had last night. Here in Illinois, the Cardinal is our State Bird. They dont go south for the winter. And when it snows, they look beautiful in their red feathers. There is a male and female that hang out all winter because thats when we feed the birds. We shy away from feeding them in Spring and Summer - too scared about West Nile Virus.

Got fresh coffee brewing and I am enjoying my first cup. The first cup always tastes the best. I brought some rain coats, hats, and boots for anyone that needs them. I sure needed them last night. Oh what storms we had.

Cookie: your lemon pie was just delicious. Im gonna have to go to the recipe from the the recipe thread. And low cal too - ya would never know it. And my mouth is already watering for some of that Fiesta Chicken Chili. Somehow that dish sounds so appropriate on the Fall Equinox. Yes ladies - Fall is officially here.

Krisitn: After my surgery I was told my sentinel node was clear. Then got a call 8 days later that it came back positive. That blew me away for a bit. I am so confident that the chemo got rid of left over cancer cells. At least now you know what your dealing with and as the treatment begins, you will feel much better. Somehow, started treatment made my fears go away. Felt like I was doing something.

Amy: Im so sorry about your friend Dana. Yes please bring her to the inner circle. We will surround her with support and love. I lost a sister to ca of the ovary. She was 46 y/o. Found out in July and was gone in September. The gynecological Onc told us he had never seen a cancer so virulent. yes! Its hard to grasp them saying there is nothing more they can do. Just be there for her. And we will light candles all around her wagon here.

Jeanette: Im a Spring and Summer person. Always disappointed when Fall and Winter are upon us. Now let me see, what are some of the things I like about fall. I think the trees changing colors is the best. All shades of red, orange, and yellow. There are October Fests, oh and Halloween - how could I forget. One of my favorite days. But alas - winter depresses me. The cold weather with ice and snow. Sometimes I feel like my life is just whisking by. Wasnt it only yesterday we were talking about Spring?

Lini: Your hot apple pie drink sounds just wonderful. I have a different version. I put Captain Morgans rum in mine. It does warm your toes on a cool night.

Deb: Im so glad the LE is getting better. Happy Birthday to your baby girl. So it sounds like your going from being totally alone to having a fun filled week-end. I hope you enjoy. 2 weeks of rads done - hip hip hooray.

NS: Shhhhh! you werent supposed to tell Shel about Chachi. Yes he did indeed love the onion soup. But I gotta tell ya, he ate alot of onions and oh my the gas he passed last night was unbelievable! I didnt know about eating something sweet for the Holidays. Happy New Year. An apple sounds wonderful. Gonna eat one right now.

To everyone else, if I missed your name, Im sorry. There are just so many of us here now. What a sight it would be to see us standing side by side, holding hands, and singing a song. Now what song should we sing?

Hoping for a glorious sunrise. Will be back later.

NS---It's cold out here AND I have a new nipple! Yikes. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill!! Good thing I was prepared for that. Even with the stitches and post op swelling I can see, really for the first time, what a beautiful job my PS did. I am just so grateful. Never thought of myself as a vain or overly appearance conscious person but having a breast back has turned out to be the healing I needed.

So many in the circle now that I, too, am going to have to start taking notes. But special warmth and healing from the campfire to Dana, Debby5, Deb, Mena---and anyone else I may have not mentioned. That's my Arimidex cross to bear---memory like a seive.

Nicki---maybe we should sing John Lennon's Imagine. Or Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World. We are a pretty mellow and upbeat kind of wagon circle. Wouldn't it be great if we could figure out a way to get everyone together in the flesh? Kind of a long haul for Fumi though.

Gotta put on my slicker, hat and climb aboard Old Blue (or whatever I decide to call him today) and ride the perimeter to protect us all from varmints. Some of that Fiesta Chicken Chili when I get back sounds good--anybody have any cornbread? No sugar in it please---sour cream, cheddar cheese and green chilies in my corn bread--yum. And apples and Metamucil cookies to get ahead of the stupid Darvocet.

Jeannie: Darvocet is my best friend. I eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Seems to help prevent the constipation. By the way, your corn bread sounds so good. I wish I had some right now!!

Im feeling so energized. Just exercised to "Footloose" forget how much I liked that CD.

I love the idea of singing "Imagine" or "What A Wonderful World." 2 of my favoirte songs. And for something fun, how about "Just Hit Me With Your Best Shot - fire away."

Having some spicey V8. Oh mamma, its clears your sinuses. Like having a virgin bloody mary.

Well I have officially been on the computer for 4 hours. So I need to say goodbye for now. Going to town and having someone cook me breakfast. I want an egg white omelet with swiss cheese. No hash browns. Fresh fruit and some Canadian Bacon.

    See ya all later.

Good Morning Ladies of the Circle,

Today is the day of my dad's funeral, last night it was the 1 day of visitation and there was a Canadian Legion Service. It was very emotional. There was the last post played on the bugle and Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. Beautiful but sad and emotional. The visitation went pretty much as I thought it would, her family and ours, almost at different ends of the room, sad but unfortunately a fact of life, for us anyway. It was like a contest of who knew him better, us or them.
I don't expect that today will go any better either. The stage has been set and the rules set out for us to follow. My flowers were beautiful, even after I was cautioned to send only "a small tribute" I bought 3 dozen long stemmed yellow roses and they were arranged in a beautiful vase with white and mauve baby's breath. They were spectacular. to top it off, I wrote the card in Welsh and I could see them wondering what the heck it meant . That was kindof funny, to see them wondering if it was something about them or something off color.
Anyway girls, say a prayer for us today at noon.

Thanks for all the ongoing support, it sure has lifted me up during this terrible time.

    love Tina

    HI girls,

You are all so wonderfull. I am always amazed at how you reach out to others when you have so much on your plate.

Just a couple of quick replies to earlier posts.
Ronda, thanks for the update on Dutch ovens. I have always cooked with cast iron skillets and have a cast alluminum dutch oven (an antique by now, from the '30's), but will have to look into a Dutch oven for our camp fire (which we use often when we go to the homestead).

Jeannie - I had a TRAM in Feb. and then had to wait on the rest till after chemo. Just had a nipple lift on the unaffected side and now will get a new nipple for the new boob. So I shall be joining you. Can't wait. The new boob is already so good - right size, shape and location. The PS has been a marvel. Hope your healing is going well.

Niki, the one salvation to the longish winter we have here is the endless sun - we have such an enormous amount of sun it really makes a difference. Then we get chinook winds that blow warm Pacific air in and can literally raise the temp. 20 to 30 degrees within an hour and melt any existing snow. The the combination of ocassional warm air and lots of sun help a great deal. When we lived in CT and NY I found the winters harder to take - probably because it was so much more cloudy. Anyway - it's only Fall, so let the leaves shine forth.
