Life is not a competition with others.  In its truest sense it is rivalry with ourselves.  We should each day seek to break the record of our yesterday.  We should seek each day to live stronger, better, truer lives; each day to master some weakness of yesterday; each day to repair past follies; each day to surpass ourselves.  This is, simply, progress.

There cannot be a sense of abundance or the experience of prosperity without appreciation.  You cannot find beauty unless you appreciate beauty.  You cannot find friendship unless you appreciate others.  You cannot find love unless you appreciate loving and being loved.  If you wish abundance, appreciate life.

Wow, who turned the outdoor thermometer down last night????   BRRRR in Central IL.  Went out to fill the bird feeders and it was like 13 degrees.   Came back in and made a big pot of hot tea.  Still need to go out and put some suet cakes, but it will wait.

There comes a time when you have to stand up and shout: This is me, damn it! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love! I am a whole complex package. Take me. . . or leave me. Accept me--or walk away! Do not try to make me feel like less of a person, just because I don't fit your idea of who I should be and don't try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change, I alone will make that decision. When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad--you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents you.

I'm joining your club, darn it! I'm Laura and I live in a small town near Bloomington. I was diagnosed on October 17th and am finally having surgery on January 5th. I made the decision to have a bilateral mastectomy, Dr. Migas is my oncologist, and so far everyone at the Cancer Center has been wonderful.

I'm spending the next few days getting things ready around the house, staying away from crowds hoping to steer clear of colds and the "flu" thing that's hitting everybody.

    Vanmama,

Welcome to our group of Illinois gals. There are several around the Bloomington area. Hopefully they will chime in sometime soon. Your MO is familiar in name because of them.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery. What a way to welcome the New Year!

We’re students every minute.  And as a result, we teach.  Each journey is unique, and the lessons in every experience are by design and on schedule.  God’s plan for us has brought us here.  God’s plan for our future will take us wherever we need to be.  Our assignment is simply to listen and learn and pass on to others what we’ve been taught.

    Vanmama,

So sorry you needed to find us.  We were all un-willing participants in this club.  The lady who started this thread long ago is from Bloomington which you may have noticed up at the top of the page.  She is on her way to Fla. for three months, but will likely get on here as soon as they get where they are going and get settled down somewhat.  I also think she is a patient of Dr. Migas and I thought had only GOOD words for his style of care.  I am wishing you well in this journey and hope you will come back often.  The door is always open and someone willing to give you lots of support.

    Blessings

    Jackie

    Choose Inner Peace.
Nothing is worth losing your inner peace.
    Take action as circumstances require,
but never surrender your inner peace.
    Stop. Breathe deeply.
Close your eyes and breathe deeply again.
Then, and only then, take action -
    from a peaceful heart.

We plant seeds that will flower as results in our lives , so best to remove the weeds of anger, avarice, envy and doubt, that peace and abundance may manifest for all.

A nice spot of sun outside today making me feel so much better.  The grayness of the last couple of weeks has been something of a downer.  Went to bed early on New Yrs. Eve, but that was ok.  I don't do resolutions now.  I prefer to wait for Spring.  Just seems a good time as your cleaning out the cobwebs and dust of winter to renew a  resolve to look forward with energy and enthusiasm to making life for yourself and those around you be the best it can.

Hoping you all have a most wonderful Sunday.

We have snow in Chicago. Took a walk in the park and will run errands on foot. I don't mind the cold if it is either snowy or sunny and not icey. Can't take the days of overcast sky we had in December.

I'm with you doxie although I hate the wind even more than snow. We've been pretty lucky this past December. Not too windy at all.

Vanmama--Welcome.  I am a Bloomington person also.  Dr. Migas is my MO as well.  Tomorrow will be a blur for you, I am sure.  I will pray for you until you are up to posting an update.  It will be ok.....and we will all be here to help you however you need us to.

Life is a refining process.  Our response to it determines whether we’ll be ground down or polished up.  On a piano, one person sits down and plays sonatas, while another merely bangs away at “Chopsticks.”  The piano is not responsible.  It’s how you touch the keys that makes the difference.  It’s how you play what life gives you that determines your joy and shine.

Vanmama-welcome to the club nobody wants to join! Sorry you have to be here but you are joining a wonderful group of women. I live in Bloomington so we aren't too far apart. Hoping your surgery is easy and your recovery is painless. Please keep us updated on how things are going. I also see Dr. Migas and really like him and everyone at the cancer center-we are truly blessed to have this place so close to home. Take care and remember to take it easy and not rush back into too much too soon.

The best thing about this very minute is your ability to recognize the possibilities in it.  Any fool can count the seeds in an apple.  But only God can count the apples in a seed.  There is something in every problem that holds potential for something better.  Do you want a lifetime of happy right nows?  The little choice this moment to see the beauty in what appears ugly, frustrating, or disgraceful will change everything.

Welcome vanmama....I am also from Bloomington so there is lots of "nearby" help if you need it or want it. I think all of us go to Dr. Migas and think he's the best.

By now you have had your surgery. I hope it went as well as expected and that you are on your way to recovery. Please let us know how you are doing as soon as you are up to it! Hugs to you as you work on recovering!

Well, we made it to sunny Florida and I feel guilty even telling you how nice it is out today after looking at the weather channel and seeing what some of you are facing this week....especially those in the home area. t I spent the morning around the pool while Dave worked on the boat to get it into the water. I think it was the first time I really relaxed since we left. We drove much of the way in pouring rain. Whew! I was glad to get here.

As soon as he gets ready, we are going to run a few errands and then put the boat into the canal and take a boat ride down the canal to a connected lake and check it out. We're hoping it will be a good place for freshwater fishing and tubing when the grandkids come down in February.

Our cats traveled well. The tiger cat (Pearl) loes being out on the lanai and has already caught two tiny lizards that we rescued from her mouth. She doesn't have front claws but the poor things had no chance with her around.

I hope all of you are doing well. Try to stay warm and stay safe.

I get hungry when I hear you guys talk about MIgas! :)

with luck this will be my last Illinois winter, or partial one anyway. We hope to try a first snow bird winter next year, Arizona maybe? Trying to pick a place where we can spend some of the time venturing to check out areas for possible permanent relocation...

But looking forward to a fun week Feb 8 in Orlando!

Rita, you knew when to leave.  No school today all because of the temps.  I have turned up the thermostat and fired up the vaporizer so maybe it will be balmy in my house soon.....But for the time being, I am wearing my "long handles" underneath my blue jeans....

    Migas---its a Spanish breakfast dish isn't it????

I've been working retain since November. I can't believe they are opening the store today. Last 2 days were so slow. We mostly returns yesterday and you could count how many people on one hand. It usually takes me 15 minutes to walk there. I bet today it will be more like 10

Be back later with the quote.  Yikes and double yikes.  The temps here are horrible as well.  It is 8 degrees and a whipping wind.  Light snow on the ground, but it was so dry outside that it was powdery so at least that was ok.

I got out at 7:30 a.m. to go to town and pick up a friend ( had to give up her license almost a yr. ago ) and take her to an early dental appt.  She would have walked she said, but she is about 12 yrs. older than me -- and I told her nothing doing.  The price of gas and all -- I probably would have gone and gotten her no matter what.....but in these temps, it is not even open for discussion.  I griped before about all the darkness -- went out to get those sunlight bulbs for lamps and they were out.  So, I was ok with it, but disappointed, then get up today to sunshine and snow, howling wind, and temperature of 8 -- I don't even want to know what the wind chill is.

Brrr and thinking of all who must get out in this junky stuff.  At least I hope that is sun where you are.  If does lift the mood and help you feel at least a tiny bit better.
