Illinois ladies facing bc

Good morning ladies! Hope you are all somewhere warm. I saw my orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday and he gave me the go ahead to start weight bearing on my leg again-yippee! I can walk with a cane which is wonderful. It is surprising how we take ordinary things for granted until we lose that ability! Just little things, like being able to walk down to the cafe at work and get my own coffee-hated to ask my coworker all the time. Of course I picked the absolute worst time to start driving myself to work again-no curbside drop off ha ha! I do park close though with the handicapped parking permit.
I never heard of "migas" you can eat so I have learned something new.
Hope everyone has a peaceful, pain free, warm day. Thanks ladies for being here!

Thanks for the welcome! I am home and pretty comfortable. I even washed my hair this morning! Now I'm in my chair for a while. It's a good day!

We can see in the puddle either
the mud or the reflection of
the blue sky, just as we choose.

Yippee Vanmamma---glad to see the update. I don't what there is about that first good shower you get after surgery, but boy it does make you feel good. You sure did pick a good few days to be tucked in the hospital and being cared for. I've been kinda hibernating in the house other than my daily runs to check in on my dad. Venturing out around 6pm to ----get this-----pick up his cremated cat's remains at the Emergency Vet clinic, then I will be dropping that little item off with him along with a hot dish of Mexican chicken for his dinner--then off to my quilt guild meeting....I had hoped they would cancel, but NOT!!!!!

Ok, I'm looking for blue sky in my puddle, but have to say the weather ( temps and wind ) are being pretty brutal here. Not like it al all. My doggies are staying in their heated doghouse even and so it is too cold for them as well. It is not pleasant. We will have this for a couple more days -- then it will warm enough to give us a mix of rain and snow....though I'm so hoping we skip the rain or sleet. I can't imagine having ice of any kind to deal with as well.
Vanmamma,
Glad you are getting along and doing ok. It is the small steps it seems that get you where you need to go -- the other things are forced and steal the steam pretty good.
Mimi,
Yay for you -- hopefully this just gets better for you. Glad you have that handicapped parking though. I too didn't know anything about eating "migas" so there are two of us that learned.
I think we are going to just have to hang in there with this weather till something better comes along. Hope praying works because I was ready to turn this in for something better almost immediately.

Migas is a Spanish or Portuguese breakfast dish, but is now more usually associated with TexMEX cuisine.
For one person: 2 Corn Tortilla's vegetable oil, butter, 1 Tablespoon diced bell pepper , 1 Tablespoon diced onion, 1 Tablespoon diced tomatoes, 2 Eggs
In a skillet fry the tortillas in hot veg oil until crispy. Drain, remove from heat and dice into bite sized pieces.
In butter, saute the pepper and the oinion until soft. add the tomatoes.
Beat the eggs well. Add the eggs to the sautéed vegetable then add the tortilla pieces. Scramble all together till the eggs are done.
You can increase the amount of vegetables, substitute hotter peppers ( I like jalepeno) or add some cheese if you like.

anyone out there on Aromasin who is having issues, especially muscle pain and insomnia? I thought I was doing well, but now because of this drug which is given For 5 years (or more), my quality of life seems to have dropped to zero. I mean that I am hardly sleeping at all, and if I do fall asleep I wake up and can't get back to sleep. An hour or two a night is insufficient and probably not even healthy. I'm sure it is the drug, because I have not changed anything else. They gave me Ambien, but that isn't a good fix, since I'm only on year two. Can't do this for 4 more years. And they are not wanting to give me Ambien much anymore. (It helps. But it is not a good fix.) Latest research is saying that 10 years of these drugs may be best. Not going to do 10. Drug inset says insomnia is a side effect of this drug, but this is ridiculous. Thanks in advance

barb,
I have been off my Anastrozole for two yrs. now after using it for 5 years. Anastrozole is the generic of Arimidex. I had no sleep issues what-so-ever with the drug. Have you discussed with your Dr. the possibility of switching drugs. I think others have done it and were successful. Of course, they all tend to have se's along with them, but sleep with its healing qualities is extremely important. I've always equated my ability to get well with the fact that nothing that has ever happened to me has robbed me of my sleep -- (knocking on wood if you hear any sounds) including all of my chemo, rads and drug therapy.
I don't know if taking the pill at a different time of day would produce a better effect either. Hope you can resolve this because I do think not sleeping is not healthy in general and it causes so much stress to the system.

barb I had sleep issues on Anastrozole (generic Arimidex) as well as a bunch of other SE. After 3 years I took a break and switch to Exemestane (generic Aromasin). Now I have tinnitus in my left ear so it's hard to to sleep but once I fall asleep I'm fine. Maybe try a different AI

Barb---here a couple of drugs you could ask about trying to help with the insomnia.
Trazadone is a antidepressant that will give you a sleep benefit when taken at bedtime. I've used it for years, starting at 75 mg. and now at 150.
When I really can't sleep, I add a .5Xanax to the mix. Just a suggestion to discuss with your docs. The Xanax are scored so you could even break t hem in 1/2 if you don't need the full amount.

It's interesting how different we respond to the AIs. On arimidex I had difficulty sleeping well because I had to nap during the day. Of course the naps may have been that I was still recovering from chemo and rads. After a 2 month break and switch to aromasin, I found it to give me a slight buzz during the day, but I began sleeping very well at night relative to my usually poor sleep before and after BC TX. I am very careful to avoid computer screens and TV before bedtime.

It may also make a difference when You take your AI-----because I have to take a thyroid med in the a.m. then wait an hour before I eat, and another hour before I take any more meds, I knew I would probably forget the anastrazole, so I take mine at 9pm.......A lot of folks who take in the a.m. say they don't have the insomnia issue.

Just figured out it's not Exemestane that is giving me the tinnitus, it's the Zoloft. Time to contact the PCP. I wish I could take a drug and not get a side effect for once!

Thank heavens not the exemestane. There are a lot more anti - depressant drugs than AIs to work with.

Yeah but it seems many of the drugs that work like Zoloft can cause permanent Tinnitus. To be honest it's not terrible and I rather have the tinnitus than anxiety!

I had sleeping disorders while on the Arimidex (Anastrazole). For me, it didn't make any difference when I took that pill. It usually took me forever to fall asleep and if I woke up in the middle of the night, I could never get back to sleep. Now that I am done with it, I sleep pretty well. Every once in a while I have a bad night, but they are few and far between.
I should sleep well tonight because we got lots of fresh air. We took the boat down the canals on Cape Coral. It was gorgeous and 80 degrees. Did you get snow in Illinois today?
0 -
We got a little bit of snow around 4pm. Enjoy your 80 degrees

We got a misty freezing pellet stuff at about 1:30-2pm. I haven't stuck my head out since to see.
Prediction was 1-2 inches.

Algonquin got at least 2 inches. More than I thought we'd get. sigh. Had to get over the big snow plow pile at end of driveway on way to work this morning. 4 weeks til Orlando vacation. Praying that morning will be snow/ice free

What we are talking about is learning how to live in the present moment, in the now. When you aren’t distracted by your own negative thinking, when you don’t allow yourself to get lost in moments that are gone or yet to come, you are left with this moment. This moment—now—truly is the only moment you have. It is beautiful and special. Life is simply a series of such moments to be experienced one right after another. If you attend to the moment you are in and stay connected to your soul and remain happy, you will find that your heart is filled with positive feelings.

No sleet or freeze yet here, but it is ( per the morning forecast ) coming later this afternoon. Just too good to be true that we would be by-passed from it all. At least we got a bit of a reprieve since it sure sounded like it would be yesterday. So, a few things to get done this a.m. while the driving should be just fine. Hate seeing such bad weather, it seems pretty much everywhere, save the west coast areas. Seems as though -- the nicer the west coast has it, the worse it is here.
