Susan, what an interesting story....and the fact that you could so easily empathize and sympathize with a stranger. And the fact that there are no coincidences and that you chose to go out of your way to another washroom. And the fact that you have known your own terrors and sense somewhat of helplessness......and the list goes on.
Of course, in my mind.....it's just an example of how life unfolds, minute by minute---all planned, all working in a synchronized fashion so that we are able to spread the work of angels---not only to those we know and love but to others in need. He by falling over the stair rail got in your way....and you found him in yours by choosing to use an out of the way washroom.
I will be anxious to hear the rest of your story and sure hope that the young man did not have a "bad" break and maybe was able to get back to his hotel, or home or where-ever.
You must have been such a comfort to him and I must say.....that he had the foresight to have you get his card so that you would not be left in the dark as to his outcome. Really a stunning story.

Jackie,
Thanks, I would never have interpreted it that way, and I really think you are right about this. When I awoke this morning, the whole incident seemed like a vague dream. I actually had to go into my purse to find his card to know it was actually real. We actually found his girlfriend and she went to the hospital with him so he did have someone with him.
Thanks for the insight!

Susan...you were meant to find this young man with the broken arm. How did this person flip over the stairs..makes me wonder if there was something else going on...and he may have had other internal injuries since he flipppd over the railing. I do hope he will be ok..maybe I will see a guy with a cast on at the airport as I am going to Boston this week. Keep us posted....

Didn't find a quote yet that I liked so I'm sharing something else.
The Treasures In You
There are treasures in life,
But owners are few
Of money and power
To buy things brand new.
Yet you can be wealthy
And feel regal too,
If you will just look
For the treasures in you.
These treasures in life
Are not hard to find.....
When you look in your heart,
Your soul, and your mind.
For when you are willing
To share what's within,
Your fervent search
For riches will end.
The joy and the laughter,
The smile that you bring;
The heart unafraid
To love and to sing;
The hand always willing
To help those in need'
Ones quick to reach out,
To labor and feed.
So thank you for sharing
These great gifts inside;
The caring, the cheering,
The hug when one cried.
Thanks for the energy,
Encouragement too,
And thank you for sharing
The treasures in you.

Susan - OMG - You are an angel! Thank goodness you were the one who "found" him. That's awazing...poor guy. I can totally understand how weird it must have been to "get" his wallet, but that was so nice of you. Yikes...let us know how he's doing.
Crazy things just keep on happening to us Illinois Girls.
Jackie - You reminded me to THINK SPRING! I saw this quote today and thought I'd share it:
Come stand by my side where I'm going, Take my hand if I stumble and fall, It's the strength that you share when you're growing, That gives me what I need most of all.
--Hoyt Axton0 -
Wow, Susan, that is an incredible story. I'm inclined to think of these things in terms of karma, and maybe your lives will intersect again, or maybe they have already in a past life. Are you going to keep in touch with him? Or maybe going for his wallet was as close as you want to get...hmmmm. Very interesting story. Thanks for the distraction. Going to bake some cookies now.

This morning...while I was putting all the crap back into my closets, I found an x-ray I had taken back in 2005 of my left foot, the one that's all screwed up. I had broken a toe - that's why the rays were taken. So I taped to my window, my new x-rays - the ones taken last weekend and the ones taken in 2005. OMG - The progression is horrendous! Not only is the big toe COMPLETELY deformed, but the three toes next to it are all positioned in the WRONG FRICKIN DIRECTION! No kidding... the Podiatrist did say my case was severe. but until I saw this...I had no clue as to HOW SEVERE! Back in 05 they gave me a walking boot...I dug it out, and it has helped considerably today. I have less pain when I walk. It's bulky, but at least I can get around faster and with less pain.
Calypso, Wendy, blackjack:
As for NOT cleaning around here, etc...if I don't who will? I don't have a little dust fairy waiting in the wings. dh has had the flu since Friday...there was a layer of drywall dust covering EVERYTHING because the painters sanded alot of nail pops...how many of you could have kicked your feet up and said "oh well...it will just have to wait". Few if any! I would never have had the painters here had I looked into my crystal ball and seen that my foot was going to implode! But...wearing the boot, I was able to do all my errands. I even squeezed in a trip to Sephora...got a new under the eye dark circle concealer (Longo). The circle under my left eye is a little purpleish...when my sister walked in on Easter - she said it almost looked like a black eye! CRIPE... I am however...going to take a long hot bath tonight...I can't wait. I've been pushing OJ and water through my dh...trying to help him shake this flu...if I get it I WILL SCREAM! But knock on wood...I haven't had the flu in over 4 years. I never get colds or sore throats either, so I'm hoping for the best!
Sorry for the boring update/post.

Laura...I looked at your films and yes you do have a severe case.
I would bring those films to the md you are seen on Tues. for a comparison. The cast boot will help if you use it daily. You can decorate it with flowers to think spring lol I hope you are feeling better soon and your poor dh too. The flu has been so bad this year
Jackie..the treasure poem is wonderful...thank you.
I hope you all are having a nice evening...

HOW'S LEESA!? How's the pain management?
Jackie - This morning, I awoke to the thunder you had yesterday. That poem is great!
It's pouring out there! Spring showers...well we all know what they do!
Have a great day girlz!
0 -
Well....at least it's not snow!!!!
Laura....I didn't mean you shouldn't be cleaning, only that I didn't want you to exacerbate your foot pain. Heck...I cut the lawn, including the hill with my herniated disk - cuz you're right, who else? Have you SEEN DH attempt to work the mower? Very sorry sight....Glad your boot is helping.
Blackjack...happy belated Anniversary!
Susan....great story. Life takes us such strange places. You were meant to be at that place in time. Let us know what happens.
Jackie...thanks for the poem! I have one ...not as good as yours but I liked it....
"Soar! Let your attitude determine your altitude"
Happy Opener to all you Cub Fans! Don't know about the game tho...thinking it may be rained out.
Leesa, calling Leesa! How are you?
DH goes back to school today so I need to get rolling....everyone have a great day!

"Heck...I cut the lawn, including the hill with my herniated disk - cuz you're right, who else?"
See...Ya can't keep a good woman down! LOL Especially a good Illinois woman! LOL
And yes...I'll take rain over snow - ANY DAY!

Hey Laura,
I woke up to that thunder too. The sound of the rain that came right after was so soothing. I wonder if it was the same thunder (my meterological knowldge is not good).

Good morning all...hope we have a somewhat dry morning but there is more rain in the forecast for today---sigh!!!! Such a short time ago we were all praying for Spring...and now that's its here.....with all the ssh---rain that comes along with...who is bellyachin ?
Was thinking about the Laura and Wendy statements....hmmm---how true. I take the gas push mower and do all the trim and parts of the yard on hillside.....and Dh is on the riding tractor. Of course it's a little backward---but at least I was burning calories he wasn't while he was riding. At least that was how I pacified myself about it. It is true though----also felt it was good for building a little extra muscle.....so guess who will be doing it again in no time.
Have to get BIL Dave and Denny to put in the new ( well, not totally new ) dishwasher today. Maytag ( good thing Denny works there ) had a recall and mine turned out to be one that was. If any of you have one....check your serial numbers...they are on a plate attached to the top of the door when you open it. Then go to Maytag.com. You will be directed at that site how to check if yours might be on the recall.
Anyway....Dave had a KitchenAide that he is giving to us. He wanted a different kind for his kitchen. Hope I don't mind the thing. Of course...what I really mind is doing my dishes by hand now. So...I'll get by I'm sure.
I'll be checking in as usual...all day so I'll talk to you all again later.

Ok now. I called in to Marion to find out about the throat issues. They say to keep using the Magic Mouthwash which I will do. Funny, I recall them telling me to use all the antibiotic and don't stop it....but I do NOT recall anyone saying to continue with the mouthwash. Apparently that is the source of the discomfort now.
Sure makes you feel a bit dumb.....did they or didn't they tell me on the mouthwash....doesn't matter other than I'm sure I'd feel better right now had I continued it...........
Well anyway, nice to know there is something I can do.

Jackie:
That may be true, about the mouthwash, but do watch it. I know that when I had thrush in my mouth (tongue and roof of mouth) they toldme that one prescription might not do the trick as it is resilient. I was on meds that made my stomach upset, so I was happy one round got it through me.
I am glad you arefeeling better.

Afternoon all, and it's pouring rain here. I came home from Dave &
Heidi's so I could get the feral cats fed while he and Denny put in the dishwasher. Well, we didn't have the dishwasher ( from Dave's house ) all the way in before the rain came. It's definitely going to be I think a fairly major wetting down. Not sure I like that but no choice.
My poor little kits will have to wait til tomorrow.
Baby Boss goes in for his grooming tomorrow and then I'll rush back and do the cats or vice-versa.
I do hope this Magic Mouthwash will be enough ( the oncology nurses seem to think so ) to take care of my problem. Though I don't always trust myself anymore....I'm almost certain they say nothing about using it til' gone or when????
Hope I did not inadvertently cause myself a relapse or something. Well, I did have to take the pills for nearly three weeks so that should have been enough I would think to clear my up. I don't feel as dry either since I used the mouthwash.....so hopefully all will be well.
Hope you are all staying dry....can't remember how far this rain extended on the map this morning during the weather.
Stay well.

Oh dear. I rushed my post off and it is filled with typos and now I cannot edit and I am the English teacher!!!! Forgive me and know I am actually quite literate.
My wedding buddy has very serious injuries and actually stopped breathing at the hospital as he went into shock. The family of the bride went to the ER and followed through with a phone call to me with their gratitude that I came upon him and worked with him until the Paramedics arrived.
I do feel like an angel of sorts. Thanks ladies.

Wow - Susan...that lad took a nasty fall! He'll never forget that wedding! Or you...
Jackie dear - I hope you get some relief from the thrush! Man...it's been haning on, hasn't it! I had it too...but I was lucky for a change...lol mine cleared up quite quickly. Hang in there...Hey maybe you, me and Wendy should have lawn mower races! LOL
WHERE'S RITA!? Our beloved founder!

I am so tired of this yucky weather! It was in the 60s today, but windy and rainy. I was expecting bad storms, they might still be on the way. I can feel bad weather in my bad ankle, it hurts like heck tonight!
I am still taking Femara and I wonder if it is making me irritable or my job or my mom or my brother. lol I feel like I don't have any patience, but it's been crazy around here. I see my onc next week, will have to ask him.
Susan: That is such an awesome experience, thank goodness you were there!
Ankle and back are hurting, so I am off to take a pain pill and relax.

Oh my gosh....how remarkable about the wedding friend. It sounded pretty straight-forward and go to the hospital and get your arm set more or less. I am so glad you were there to be of comfort to this young man Susan. He obviously went downhill a bit after getting to the hospital.
Does make me wonder...would some sort of internal injury/bleeding or something cause the shock reaction.
Well, you really were his angel.
Yes--Laura, I think I had the thrush without realizing it for some time before it got high enough up in my throat to start causing enough difficulty to alert me that something was not right. Of course, as I mentioned before....every time I had a chemo treatment I complained of the seemingly large amt. of mouth mucus and liquid that I was experiencing. No one seemed to think it was anything more than that. Well, in the beginning it may have not been, but it switched over at some time and I think was possibly present for my last A/C and then first Taxotere which is when it all came to a head.
Hopefully ( I'm praying now ) the Magic Mouthwash will be enough to take care of things.
What an afternoon we had here. Dave and Denny put in the dishwasher and as those things go...had to make a trip to the Ace is the Place store for fittings, hoses etc. You might know....everything that happens here has a trip to a lumber yard or Ace or even Wal-Mart. I often marvel....in a four car garage plus a 10 by 14 storage shed with loft....we never have whatever it is you need....no matter what it is you are trying to do. I think it's a man thing.....the jars and jars of screws....they are never the right ones. You must have a different size.
Well, ok.....finally at long last it's done and Dave goes out to go home. I had forgotten that he parked on part of the lawn.....in all this rain.....and further that his Explorer only had 2 wheel drive as it's a California car. So, he sheepishly comes back up to the house and needs Denny---with his four wheel drive truck to get him on the pavement....so, with a lot of efforts.....and finally needing a tow rope, Denny got him on the pavement without a total wrecking of the lawn.............then Denny takes off in 4-wheel low going all the way across the lawn without a mark.
Dave is going to go look at the new GMC Acadia's. Living here....and especially out in the country where we do you just almost have to have that or at least all wheel drive.
The rain is pouring....has done so since last afternoon and probably will go most of the night.
I was able during a slight break earlier to run out and get the feral cats fed. Most of them all came out....they know the sound of my car horn...and if fairly dry will come.
Ok, my big report is done.
See you in the morning.

Hi ladies!
You've been busy posting and it took awhile to get caught up. We had a busy Sunday...church, Springfield to spend a little time with Dave's Mom, and then his girls. When we got back, he talked me into riding over to the riverboat for a few hours. As you can imagine, he reallly had to coax me into going! LOL
Then today, Mary Jane and I went shopping. The excitement for the day was finding sandals that fit. They were medium width but had neat straps that I could tighten up! I was beginning to think I'd have to go barefoot this summer! Anyway, we shopped until we dropped. I left home at 7:45 this morning and walked back in around 10 this evening. We had a ball!
Michele....how are you doing?
Jackie....hope the Magic Mouthwash does the trick. Like Susan says, I think that thrush is sometimes pretty hard to get rid of so don't hesitate to get more meds if you need them.
Laura, is your second opinion appointment tomorrow? If so, good luck and let us know what you find out. I'll keep my fingers crossed and will send good vibes your way!
Hi Wendy! What will you do now that you've sent hubby back to school and you have the house to yourself again all day long? It looks like we're in for more rain this week. Hmmmm.....shall we attack some more drawers?
Kater...I don't think I told you how much I enjoyed your cat pictures that you shared earlier. They are so cute! Thanks for sharing the picture!
Well, I wanted to check in. Hello to everyone I didn't mention. I will do better tomorrow. I'm ready for bed!

Morning all....
LEESA......THAT IS SOOOOO AWESOME!!!! I am so happy for you! I am doing a dance.....
Susan.....you were meant to be there on Saturday...you saved that man's life. When you think about the big picture of life, no matter what your beliefs are....we all are put on this earth for reasons. One of your reasons that you fought so hard to combat your disease was to live and if you hadn't, maybe that young man might not have. You've been blessed to find this out, just at a point where you feel that you lost your doctor and a large part of your support system. You are needed on this earth and you make a difference!!!!!!!
Rita...wow! Talk about a shopping fool! Where did you finally find your sandals?
Jackie...sounds like you got help with the thrush right away this time and are already feeling better. Yep...we had rain up here pretty much off and on all day yesterday. Gloomy this am and very windy but I don't think there's much rain forecasted. The grass I did notice yesterday afternoon....dare I say it....looks greener!!!!
Mich101...how are you feeling today?
DH went back to school yesterday so YAY! Then I noticed while dusting that there is water damage on the middle windowsill - old damage and I don't have plants there. Then the rain came pouring out of the West which is the way the windows face....water is seeping thru the dry wall around the window frame! We caulked around the trim board that goes around the window last fall as I had noticed some water spots inside and then it got cold and I forgot all about it. Hopefully we'll get some dry days so I can haul out the big ladder and see what's what. It's always something, isn't it girls?
OH well...time to get my sorry butt moving. I'll check in later....

Dear Ladies:
Well I am out of hero mode and back in school. The kids are all dressed in their short shorts as they will not accept that we are not actually in Spring. Nine weeks of school and I am out for summer.
I have been thinking about Aaron, my wedding buddy. Yes, his break was not a simple one and he was bleeding internally. He is still in Chicago and they haven't operated yet. Today. His mother is coming in from Boston. The mother of the bride wanted to transfer him to a "better" hospital but was then advised to refrain from any suggestions due to litigation possibilities. Life gets complicated.
I begin my Lance Armstrong Survivorship program next week and it begins with nutrtion and exercise.
Leesa, you sound fantastic!
Susan0 -
Morning everyone, and it's not too bad this morning if you don't look too long at the soggy ground and muddy patches. We may get a spot of sun even today but I think in the main it will be cloudy. Lots to do today...going to Barbara's to clean, then to town for my check, then the bank....then to pick up Baby Boss at the groomer's.
I'm sure there will be a few other things as well. Always are.
Sure be glad when we can be dry for a while. Our yard is so full of branches ( mostly small ones ) after the season of fall and winter and when you have an acre or so that is a lot of picking up that needs to be done. I could do this....at least I think if I was consistent doing a little each day. Might even have it done about the time we are ready for the first mowing. With all this water....and good sun that will come a bit sooner this year.
Well, onward and upward for the day.
Hope you all have a good one...bet Rita isn't going shopping today though.
Jackie

Good morning!
I see that my post to Leesa posted twice. I sure don't know why that happened. I was posting from my laptop, though, and I might have accidentally hit something twice. Sorry about that! Of course, Leesa's news was so good that I guess posting a couple extra HIP HIP HOORAYS didn't hurt anything!
Wendy...are you ready for this? We looked all over Springfield for shoes. We hit every department store and all the shoe stores and finally found the shoes at Target where we stopped on the way home for Mary Jane to return a lamp shade. They are so cute! One pair is bronze-colored and the other is black with gaudy gemstones on them. Both are strappy and fun! Who would have thought I'd find shoes at Target? I don't know when I've ever found a pair of shoes that fit for under $20 so I was one happy camper!
Jackie...you are so right! No shopping for me today except for a quick run into the grocery store. I've got to quit playing and do some work around here in case the weather clears later this week and I can sneak over to the golf course for a few holes of golf. I'm probably wishful thinking about the golf! LOL
Susan, it's so neat that you are still "keeping tabs" on the injured wedding guest! Isn't it strange how things happen? I really think everything happens for a reason. It certainly was a good thing that you found him, but I think the incident helped you, too. So neat!!!
Nancy B...Your bad ankle was "right on" last night! The winds in our area were so bad that several semi trucks tipped over on the interstates. As for the Femara, I imagine that it's possible that it's causing some mood swings. Although I like to blame mine on the Arimidex, I think the weather is more of a culprit for me. I'd sure ask about it though when you see your onc.
Well, I need to get to work before I give up the idea!
Everyone have a good day. Think spring!!!
Rita
