Good Sunday morning to everyone.  Hope it will be a good one for all too....dreary here, chilly, wet etc.  Ok, like Wendy I try to take it in stride...we appreciate the sun a bit more after it's missing a day or two.

I'm fine as a frog hair split down the middle if you don't count the yucky mouth.....sure hate that and the feeling that my throat is full of phlem ?? but life goes on just as surely as anything.  I will see this pass shortly and be back to.......hmmm whatever kind of person I am....Big mixture I think.

Birthday party for my two bil's today.....don't know if I am up to it.  But I'd send Denny anyway...here in town.  I'm not moving real well  but it could get better.

All have a great day...I'm going to go find a quote.

    See ya later.

Laura - sure - bring your niece along!  There should be lots of kids there, but I'm not sure about how many teens. I can let you know closer to the date. That is sad that she doesn't have a date for prom.  I was just talking to a friend who has high schoolers the other day and she was saying how different it was because the girls all go to the dances as a group now - when we were kids you had to have a date.  But, I guess it's probably different for prom.

Leesa - I too was sad to read your post.  Hopefully, you will begin to feel better from surgery soon so you can go dance again.  I also hope that chemo is not too bad for you.  I hope you have a marvelous day today at DofS.

I still haven't told you what Wendy did yet.  Still not ready yet - hopefully later this week.

Jackie - hope you feel better.  Sometimes it feels better just to get up and out.  But, then sometimes it feels better just to lie there!

Still gloomy out there, but I looked ahead at the forecast for the week and it looks like the sun is going to come back soon!  At this rate, DH and I are worried about the summer.  3 years ago when we first bought our lake property it was the worst summer ever.  It didn't get really warm until September.  Then the last two summers were so hot it was so perfect for boating!  Keeping our fingers crossed.

Looking forward to the pictures of JanClare and her sequins and beads!  Have fun girls!

    Good morning:

Yes, I hear discouragement in Jackie and Leesa's posts  You are both such nice people, so kind, that I wish I could offer something.  This probably won't help, but I will give it a try.

I was so down one Sunday after chemo (maybe my third treatment).  I was a mess.  I was physically and mentally so sick.  I was also on the steroid and hostile.  My daughter came by and forced me to go on a walk in the woods.  I was actually  mean to her, but she got me up.It was the last thing I wanted.  My husband held one hand, and she held the other and we walked through the woods.  I was sick and needed to use an outhouse (horrors) but I had my wetnapsKiss.  I atually started to laugh at how odd we looked, this bald-headed maniac in the outhouse with my cheer leaders outside reassuring me that they would not abandon me.

Leese and Jackie, I actually felt good.  It was amazing.  Now maybe it was my time to feel good, or just maybe we need that "tough love" of others.

    I wish you both well.

    Dear Arimdex people:

Separate post on arimidex.  I only know that Rita, Wendy and Kater are on it.  Anyone else who is, chime in.

My hip and shoulder now have pain.  Every time I go to the doctor about pain, it turns out to be nothing.  I am doing the two week rule.

Here is my concern.  SOOOOOO many women complain that they get pain on arimidex (joint) yet whenever I ask the doctor, or do a search on the connection, I hear that joint pain is not a likely se of arimidex.  If that is true, why do so many women complain about it, and why are some of us taking supplements to correct it?  I can live with any pain I currently have, yet it is nerve wracking wondering if it is arimedex-connected or the bad guy.  My onc does not do routine bone scans, and as I say, I would be scanned  monthly if I reported every ache and pain.  Any thoughts?  Also, Wendy what do you take (magnesium??).

    Thanks ladies.

    OK...here we go for Magnesium....

    I take 250 mg x2 daily...and...NO MORE JOINT PAIN/MUSCLE PAIN.

I did tell my onc, after doing this 3x to see if it actually worked...and ...YES IT DID.

Just my experience....but it was enough to change my onc to give his gals 1200 mg calcium, 1000 U vit D AND magesium 500mg.  So there you go...

I'M SO DISAPPOINTED...I didn't attend the Day of Sharing...I woke up not feeling well. Tummy issues...ate out last night...can't help but wonder! I still didn't feel well after showering and dressing to go, so I laid down and slept for 3 hours. I guess I needed that! I tried Pepto Bismal...that helped for a while. But now I'm much better. I just had some chicken soup and threw some rice in it...

I'm sure the girls will be posting soon about how much fun they had! Cry

Hope you're all having a good Sunday/sundae! lol

Laura...We missed you, but happy to hear you are feeling better.

Jan was smokin' hot strutting down the runway! She did us proud in two different outfits, looking gorgeous, and holding the Illinois Girls Are Tough sign. It was a lot of fun, and I wish you all had been there.

Leesa...We missed you, girl. You sounded sad last night, and we wonder what we can do to help. Let us hear from you soon, okay?

Have to catch up with the DH. He's been on his own for two days, and that usually isn't a good idea. Besides, I really did miss him!

    Hi Ladies,

Just got back from the day of sharing and it was very nice. The panel discussion by various md's, therapists and nurses was very informative..the personal stories were enlighting that there is life beyond bc. Lunch was good.. the shopping vendors had lots of things to look at and freebies too.

I even got a free foot massage that was to died for. I told the massage therapist that since I was sitting in this very comfy lounge chair with a blanket on my lap.. all I needed now was an umbrella and a cosmo and I was good to go...lol  But the fashion show was the best. Our own personal fashion girl JanClare stole the show with her wild leopard outfit and great looking shoes. I love those shoes..but the best is when she was modeling the leopard outfit she pulled out of her beach bag the " Illinois Girls are Tough" sign..it was great. Smerf, Nancyla, and I were so proud of her. She did a great job and look awesome too. If you need fashion tips she's your girl...

I took lots of pics and she will post them later.

They also had  a raffle and I won a cooking class and jewelry basket.

It was a nice day..we missed you Laura and Leesa..hope you both are feeling better soon.

Hope everyone is have a great weekend...The lunch bunch is planned for April 25 Friday as this was suggested and the place is Maggiano's in Schaumburg. Please let me know as I will make the reservations. Hope you can come.

Suggestion to all...what do you think about an evening get together in May or June..possibly doing a private cooking class where we eat and cook..could be fun or we could just drink and not cook lol..planning ahead as I know the summers get busy for all with boating season and graduations...let me know your thoughts on this idea. I am open to all ideas so send your suggestions my way for a fun time. lol

Time to go feed my dh...will ck back later..

    Be healthy..be happy..

Laura, we missed you so much!!  We also missed Leesa, who didn't feel well either.  ((((HUGS))) and healing love to both of you!

At the Day of Sharing today was myself, Michele (BlackJack), Pat (Smerf) and Nancyla, plus Michelle's friend and Nancy's friend (I'm sorry, I'm having a swiss cheese moment on the names- I just know I'll remember them about an hour from now)  I have plenty of photos, but I can't download them onto my computer because my son decided today to re-format it and he's temporarily taken off my Photoshop Elements.  I should have them tomorrow.

Girls, next year we just have to get everyone who can to come to the Day of Sharing!!!   It was great!  We started out with a great continental breakfast- full of fresh fruit, muffins, bagels, juices, coffee and tea.  There were vendors and displays- I bought a very cool black "survivor" tee-shirt with........(wait for it)........pink and white rhinestone spangles.  Yes, the girl who said "no more" to the spangles on purple chiffon, bought a spangled tee-shirt.  Let me just say that this is one cool tee shirt.  I bought a beautiful knit shawl with big red buttons- very funky and very, very me!  Finally, I was thrilled to find a Lymphedma alert tag with 3 interchangeable bracelets.

Our first speaker was wonderful- Dan Shapiro, a Hodgkin's Disease survivor who was so animated and engrossing that it was like watching a one act play.  You couldn't help but laugh and react with delight to him.  I bought his book, which is also available at Amazon- http://www.amazon.com/Moms-Marijuana-Life-Love-Beating/dp/0375708014

We then had a large panel of doctors and other health care workers who answered questions from a moderator, as well as from the floor.  Most of them were very good (though I think Pat, Michele, and I agreed later that the nutritionist was a little lacking).  I got to point out my absolutely darling (and swoon worthy) Dr. Ruffer, my radiation onc.

Lunch was cream of chicken soup, chicken kabobs with veggies and rice, plus sherbet.  It was very good- we were kind of marveling at the value we were getting for 20.00.

After lunch, there was another speaker, but only got to hear part of her speech about "6 degrees of sisterhood" before I had to leave to change for the fashion show.  So I can't really tell you much about her.  When I came back in for the fashion show, I noticed that Nancy and her friend had left- I'm sorry that I didn't get to say goodbye and hope everything was okay.

I absolutely enjoyed the fashion show and loved hearing everyone's unique stories.  Had a little bit of a tiff with the store owners when I insisted that I was going to wear my own belt and carry the purse I had brought.  They were okay with the belt, but wanted me to leave the bag behind.  I told them that there was something in the bag that I needed on the runway and that was it!  I "worked it" on the runway, dancing and posing.  Michele and Pat were nice enough so say that they liked my "looks".  But my favorite moment was when they were reading my story and they read my "shout-out" to the Illinois girls at breastcancer.org-  I reached into my purse and brought out my "Illinois Girls are Tough" sign and displayed it for the room to see!  I think Michele almost fell out of her chair.

That was the end of the day- but I have to say one more thing.  As I was leaving, I noticed that everyone, and I mean everyone, that I saw had HUGE SMILES on their faces.  They were laughing and waving to everyone.  Here they had attended a day long seminar on BREAST CANCER and yet they had fun with friends and family and made a loving connection with others.  It was outstanding!

The Day of Sharing sounds like it was wonderful. Sorry I was unable to make it.

An evening or weekend get together in May or June sounds great, since I am unable to attend during the weekCry lunches.

Laura-glad to hear that you are feeling better.

Leesa- Hang in there. Each day will get better, and when the sun finally shines, that helps us all too.

Wendy- I will find out Tuesday when my last herc. tx is. I'm not sure how I will react after that last one. I think I will be feeling: Ok, now what will protect me. I don't believe that I will be on any other tx's b/c I am ER-/PR-. My port has been out for a long time now. I had to have it out b/c of swelling in my arm.

Everyone take care and I wish everyone a wonderful week.

Sounds like you all had a quite wonderful time today at DofS.  I definitely love the "SIGN".  Jan Clare....be proud of yourself and as well.....love your write up.  I almost feel like I was there.

Definitely looking forward to the pics.

    Laura and Leesa---be well.

I stayed home this evening and did not attend the BILs birthday party.  Wet and chilly outside and I have been more cold today than usual...no bone pain, but achy.  Crowds---even small ones, are hard for me in these conditions.  Dh will have a good time and stay a little longer...as he won't have to rush an exhausted me back home.

    See ya'll all tomorrow.

Jackie- sorry you were not able to go to the party, but you are smart to stay home when you just don't feel up to it!  Good for you, listening to your body!

Michele- I think a weekend get-together would be wonderful- but I'd like to suggest a Saturday lunch instead of evening?  I think we should try and plan something further south from Chicago, so that Rita, Ginny, and others from the more middle section can come??  I have a 7 person mini van, so I can pick-up and car-pool a group.

So how about Starved Rock Lodge??  http://www.starvedrocklodge.com/index.cfm  It's a little over 2 hours from where I live- I don't mind a 4-5 hour round trip to meet and talk with everyone.  We can drive down in the morning, do lunch, maybe walk around a little and then drive back???   Maybe we could even do the new LaSalle Canel boat ride??  http://www.lasalleboat.org/

    Just a suggestion!

    Luncheon talk: Starved Rock

How ironic I'll be in LaSalle, near Utica, on April 18th when you are getting together up here! As I probably mentioned I got married in '82 and lived 17 years in Utica...a mile or two from  "downtown Starved Rock Park"...

Did many a photo shoot there...

I work for the jr. college there and they have decided to honor adjunct faculty, April 18th at 4 p.m....I have 15 years in. 8-)

I have pared down to one visit a year because I usually get sad when going there, my life was so very carefree there...I only had myself to worry about (divorced in 86?)...and lots of memories at various jobs from newspaper, to credit union to hospital PR and finally teaching computers at the college.

I still have nightmares...it took 2.5 years to sell my 3 bedroom 1200 sq. foot ranch...it replaced the "i forgot to go to class and today is the final" nightmares!

I cracked up at the "warmer"...I don't think we'll notice it's much warmer! chuckled out loud!

Had a super busy weekend but wanted to check in and see how the Day of Sharing went.  It sounds like you stole the show, JanClare!  You go, gal!

I'll post more tomorrow!  Glad you all enjoyed your day and wish I could have joined you!  The Starved Rock excursion sounds good to me!

Catch you all in the morning.

Good Morning!  This is not shaping up to be a good day....

Grill delivery issues and trying to coordinate babysitting and now...my printer/fax says there are faxes in memory but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to print them.  Sigh.......

And then I go back to my post on magnesium from yesterday to correct spelling, and I deleted it.   Sigh.......

And photobucket.com is down for maintenance.  Sigh........

Sounds like you guys had a great time yesterday...can't wait to see the pictures.  Laura, sorry you weren't feeling up to going.  And Leesa, are you OK???

Gotta run...if anyone has a Lexmark 5470, could you PLEASE tell me how to get my faxes!!!!!

    Have a great day....oops!!!

Susan...I don't know who is telling you that joint/muscle pain is not a se of arimidex.  Those se's are the main reason women stop taking anti-hormonal therapy.  It's not the pill itself that causes the pain...it's the total depletion of estrogen.  I take just the Walgreens brand...I used to be able to buy 500mg pills but can't find them anymore so I take 250mg twice daily.  It really made a difference and now my onc also tells his pts to take it along with the calcium and Vit D based on my experience.

    MorningLaughing

Oh please, oh please, there is some sun out there, but will it stay.  Well, I think it will be a couple days before we get real warmth back. I will make the best of it.

Wendy, sorry you are struggling---ah machinery.  Just when you think life and machinery can actually operate together in harmony it becomes an enigma.  Should I say when I was younger I often resorted in bad behavior where some of these things were concerned.  Then again....sometimes.  I recall learning how to use an old fashioned book-keeping machine.  I bluffed my way into the job saying I could use the machine...I'd never seen one.  Wow!!! was I in for a shock...held 6 sheets of ledger paper, 5 billing statements, and a couple of other things.  Not quite as big as a desk...and a strange looking typewriter type carriage where all the ledger and statements fit.  I did learn, but I never 'bluffed' again.

Hopefully someone adept will be able to help you out.  Denny has a newer Lexmark...but I don't think he uses the fax part.  If no one else comes up I could have him ( hopefully they are close ) look in his instruction manual for any tips.

Will have to copy somewhere...the recipe for the magnesium.   I already take calcium and Vit. D.   I'll wait to see what happens til' I start taking my pill after rads.

Not doing too bad today...minor aches still, but nothing to get excited about.  No bone pain as yet...maybe I'm going to get skipped again on that.  After continuing with the Magic Mouthwash, I also don't feel my mouth issues seem as bad as in the past.  Still a bit of a strange taste....minor and it seems to have not affected the taste of what I eat...though the minute I quit eating it tends to come back.  I think I may already be on the upswing....if so fantastic.  Fingernails and toenails still very sore.

Anyway....hope you all have a fantastic day...some sun if possible to cheer up your existence.  Don't work too hard and simplify, simplify.

    Hi ladies,

I am so glad that you gals had a great day at the Day of Sharing.  We're waiting patiently for those pictures!  Laura, I'm so sorry that you were feeling a bit under the weather on Sunday and couldn't go.  Hope you're doing better now.

Susan, Wendy is right.  Joint pain is one of the major symptoms that appears with Arimidex.  Remember when I was having all the insomnia at first?  My general physician looked up the side effects of Arimidex in her book.  Joint pain and insomnia were only a few of the effects.  I wrote the side effects down that her little medical book listed, but will not list them unless somebody has a specific complaint.  The power of suggestion often causes symptoms in itself.  Rest assured though that joint pain was a major side effect.  I have tried the magnesium and vitamin D-3, too.  My feet got so bad I could barely hobble.  They did the trick for me and being a bit superstitious, I "knock on wood" every time I say that.

Ginny...good luck with your appointment this week and the removal of the mole on your back.  Please let me know what you find out about the other little lump.  I'm sending good vibes your way!

Jackie...so glad that you're feeling better today.  I think that today is supposed to be the coolest day this week.  I'm going to work like crazy around here today so that I can hit the golf course on the other days.  The sun will make you feel SO much better.  You are getting there, hon.  Hang in there and make the best of each day for now.

Wendy...I'm so sorry that I can't help you with your fax machine.  Hopefully the rest of the day will go much better for you and be the start of a very nice week.

Kater, thanks for all the info you've been filtrating our way.  You're our research specialist.  And as for the Starved Rock idea, I can't imagine anybody NOT loving Starved Rock, can you?  It would be a good day trip for all of us!

I still haven't gone back through all the weekend posts that I missed and need to get working around here so I get something accomplished today.  I'll be back later.

Hello to everyone!  I hope it's a good week for all!

I still haven't gone back through all the weekend posts that I missed and need to get working around here so I get something accomplished today.  I'll be back later.

Hello to everyone!  I hope it's a good week for all!

Thanks Jackie...I did go to the lexmark website and it wasn't much help at all, but it did suggest downloading this utility thingy which I did.  Seems that when you fax to someone, it asks if you want to send a second page...if you hit the no button...all faxes you get will go straight to memory.  And then I couldn't get them out.  Kater was around so we played "Fax" until I got it working.  Jeesh.

Rita...I hear you about the se's from arimidex.  If I actually really read them I would probably not be taking the stupid pill.  And I had to laugh about 3-4% of women complain re: joint/muscle pain.  I would guess that percentage is closer to 75%.  The small amount of discomfort I still have is well worth the protection I HOPE I am getting.

Sun's out....in the 60's and 70's this week.  I am now officially moving the shovels and pulling the mower out of the corner and stowing the blower.

That should pretty much guarantee a blizzard by next week.........

    Good Morning Ladies,

I woke up with the nastiest flu yesterday, I couldn't keep anyting down.  Well I'm done with my pity party and I'm feeling physically better today so I'm going to clean this filthy house, and then go for a nice long walk. Rita, you are so right the sun does make everything easier.  I can't wait to see the pictures from yesterday.  I'm really sorry I missed it.  Oh well next year.

    Love leesa
