Good morning everyone! Just a quick fly-by this morning to check in before I brave the heavy raindrops for bowling. Hope you're all doing well.
Wendy, the author of the book is Nicholas Sparks. His books are ALWAYS good! The movie was excellent. We five gals sat there crying our eyes out and then raved about how good it was over Italian Beef Sandwiches! :-) However, the movie did not follow the book exactly. They added a slight twist to it! It was a fun night out and we decided that we need to do this once a month now! Hope the ankle feels better today. I guess I missed the bra chat. What bras are you talking about that are on sale at Kohls?
Well...I'm off to get ready for bowling. I have several errands to run after bowling so I hope the rain subsides before then.
Catch you all later!
Rita

Hi Girlz! Good morning...
Those of you going through procedures, etc. - My thoughts are with you!
Wendrew - Good idea about the race car postcards. I'll have to remember that. If you want to join us at the fair...just lemme know! Hope your ankie is better!
Rita - Have fun bowling...girl...I cannot keep up with you!
Jackie - I love EE Cummings...and I LOVE TO LAUGH! Thanks for sharing!
-----------------------------------------------
Have a great day! Make the most of it...we will never have this day again. For those of you who are able to attend the next get-together...can't wait to see you!
blackjack - Thanks for organizing it!...once again!

Good evening everyone had quite the thunderstorm this afternoon. Don't know why I was surprised. Went and got my hair cut today and can't say I'm too fond of it....but then, being so short----any trim tends to make that stand out a bit more. All in all, it will be all right. I think I did not care for her style of spiking.....I got used to how I did it.
Anyway, I'm busy finishing some laundry and writing out some recipes. Will pack in a short while and up early a.m. to get to the airport. What fun it will be. I'll have the digital camera with me though Dh seldom lets me do the honors---so I'm just hoping I remember to do it at all. The whole family is very excited. I talked to my ex this early evening and he and Ann his wife are leaving tomorrow from their home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. They will arrive Friday afternoon. Sara and her husband will be there on Sunday. Sara is my ex's third wife. She spent a lot of time with my daughter and Alissa when she was a new baby so she too is anxious to get to spend some time with Alissa.
My daughter does not have a computer ( well, it's non-working more than it's working ) at her house so I will probably be out of touch until I get back home on the 28th. I know a lot will go on here....but Wendy...I'm so glad you will find some quotes and keep that going. I'll just have to work hard to catch up when I get back. You will all be in my thoughts as I go through the next couple of weeks living a dream come true. It is a beautiful once in a lifetime fairy tale full of real people ---- how fortunate for all of us. I know the love, care, encouragement, and camaraderie that exists here really kept me going and is what enabled me to be ready to accept this very fantastic turn of events ---- not only survivorship, but getting a 17 yr. loss turned totally around. You all made me want ( though normally in other circustances I usually did) to keep going even when I thought I might out of frustration or fatigue feel just as ready not too. There was a time or two --- but you all pulled me through.....and kept that little spark and touch of energy ready to spring into life....AND I see where it has brought me. So, sniff-sniff.....I'm going to miss the cheerful everyday touching bases that I've done but it won't be long and I'll be back.
Love, Jackie

Morning! Okay...is there not one of us who would dearly love to be a fly on the wall when Jackie sees Alissa? I am so happy for her. I will try and come up with some good sayings/quotes while she is away...just don't be surprised if they come from classic rock tunes!
Laura...my friend Carol will indeed be at that fair on the weekend of Nov. 9th. She does have some postcards of old racing cars, but not a whole lot. I will remind her to bring them with her in case you are interested. So hard to buy for DH's and I thought maybe yours might like this!
JulieChicago....how are you doing? Hopefully things went well yesterday.
Rita...do you EVER spend a day at home???? You have such a wonderful life - always going, going, going. Don't forget to spend a bit of time on your deck, just enjoying the fall weather. Pretty soon you will be shoveling off that deck!
When I was at Famous Dave's with Mich101 last Sat. she gave me such a pretty little charm/dangle thingy which she put together with supplies purchased at Hobby Lobby. Even has a pink "survivor" ribbon charm on it. I am going there today to get some stuff and try my hand at it. Only thing is....I am so not talented. Mich101 can't make the dinner as night-time events and the distance she has to drive is just too late for her...SO.....can we please twist her arm a bit???? Please - please - please...Mich101...can you come, even for just a little bit? I NEED JEWELRY LESSONS!!!!!!!!!!! OK...begging over.
Off to get pretty and then exercise and then HobbyLobby. I hope you all have a great day...spend a bit of it with someone you haven't seen/talked to in a long time. Remember Jackie...she had to wait 17 years to see her granddaughter!

Good morning everyone!
Jackie's off and aren't we all happy for her? I can't wait to hear about her reunion! What a dream come true!
Wendy, yep, I'm spending the day at home today although I do plan on going for a long walk later and trying to get back into some type of walking routine. So........it's laundry, ironing, and question writing for me today. Then I'm making stuffed peppers for dinner. Won't I just be a real Suzie Homemaker today??? LOL When on the Spoon River Drive, I saw a sign that I wish I would have purchased. It says, "Martha Stewart does NOT live here!" :-)
JulieB....thinking of you and hoping that things are improving. Please post when you can and give us an update.
JulieA...hmmm...wonder what you're doing that's kept you from posting lately????? LOL Hope all is going well with the newly-weds and hope to hear from you soon.
Good morning to all the rest of you! I hope you have a great day!

Hello All!
I am still lurking out here. I have my last TCH Chemo down at Rush on October 28th. It has been a rough go and I can't wait to be finished. Just stopping by to say hello!

Henson - Glad you're almost done...that's great!
-------------------------------
Hi Girlz...
Okay...I'm not FREAKING out, but every month or every other month I have been getting a stabbing, twisting pain at my Mastectomy site (of course - the cancer side) - very random. It's the creepiest darned pain. It feels like something is twisting inside - behind the scar (near some ribs). It only lasts for about 15 seconds. Most of the time I have just been sitting or walking when it happens...not when I exercise or reach for something. I mentioned it to my Onc about a year ago, but neither of us was concerned because at that time, it had only happened a couple of times. It just happened again and I can't help but worry. What test would be done to see if there's something going on in there? Of course, because I had an unclean margin at the chest wall and my Sent node was positive, I'm concerned that something is slowly brewing within. It's the creepiest/weird pain/sensation I have ever felt. Not sure what to do! Have any of you had this...

Hi,
I'm back home. New implant in. Got to the hosp at 9am and PICC line was put in. The nurse who did it was great- but wow- I'm not sure who said it didn't hurt. It's much better now, but my vein certainly didn't like and I was in tears. I've never had anything hurt like that. I spent the rest of the day just holding my arm- could not even lift it. Surgery was pushed back unti 3:30 and by that time, I had the mother of all headaches- probably no food/water etc. At 2:30, they ran the antibiotic into the PICC and *boing,* big ole allergic reaction. My scalp and chest started to itch like crazy and I turned beet red. Turns out it was supposed to have been a 2 hour transfusion and the nurse, realizing she was late, ran it as one hour. PS was pissed-- we had to wait until my system calmed down.
Things went better after that. Infection was not as bad as he feared, but still present. He also made some of the adjustments that were planned for December, so I actually think I came out ahead. Stayed in hosp all yesterday, but could not get released until 8 pm as they wanted me to have two more infusions w/o incidence. I had to fight them on Benadryl. I hate the stuff-- just hate to feel that sleepy and out of it. As long as the infusion was at the right length, I only had a mild reaction.
So,home, stiff, achy and tired. The usual. Home nurse came today and taught me how to use the PICC line. The antibiotic comes in these litte pressurized balls-- you don't have to hang them from and IV stand at all. There is a small bag you can carry the ball around in so that you are not tied to one spot. I'm to run it 2x a day. Infection in not completely gone-- so not out of the weeks yet. Nurse told me the staph infections are getting harder and harder to cure.
gotta get these kids fed- just wanted to pop in and let everyone know I'm ok. Thanks for all the prayers and kind wishes....

JulieB - Wow...you really have been to he** and back! I'm happy you're home though. Rest...don't be too active, too soon! Take care!

Wendy-Did you find supplies? I'm trying to find time to make more (not just bc charms) for a craft show that my sister and I are doing on Nov.1. If you are ever cruising in your Z up my direction, just give me a call and stop and I can show you then.
JulieB-Glad to hear you are home. I'm so sorry for what you've gone through. Try to get some rest too.
Laura-It sucks how every ache and pain is so scary. Our minds run wild, but it's hard not to.
Henson- Congrats on almost being done.

Hi Girls!
I've been feeling great the last couple of weeks. Only three more chemos after tomorrow! My hair is growing quickly. It's amazing. Some days I think I can see is growing. It's gray on the sides and top and black in the back. Not the ideal color but I think it's what I had before. If it's not to cold, I'll be ditching the wigs/hats soon.
My parents left last week to return to Alabama. It's so quiet around here. Chris and I are enjoying the peace. Rita and I have been enjoying some golfing, walking, and lots of talking. I'm surprised she hasn't smacked me yet!
Rita - Thanks for being such a great friend and putting up with me!
Becky - Are you out there reading? How's things going?
Laura - I sure hope the pain is nothing serious. I only have problems when the weather is changing.
Ginny - My heart just broke when Rita called me the other night. You've been through so much already. I'm keeping you in my prayers.
Juliechicago - I'm glad your home and everything worked out. The hospital is a scary place without added drama. I hate Benadryl as well. I have it every week with chemo. Although I have to admit I don't mind sleeping through it.

HI everyone,
I haven't been posting much lately but I have been reading the posts - holy guacamole!! So much going on with everyone, my head is spinning.
JulieChicago - my goodness, you've had ENUF. I'm so sorry.
Just wanted to let you ladies know that I'm alive & kicking - basically dealing with "stuff" as we all seem to be (add me to the list of people with window leaks/mold!) and other maintenance issues, getting my name changed, getting ready for surgery in 2 weeks, etc. etc. etc. Just "stuff" - you know.
Thinking of you all & want to send hugs & good vibes to everyone!! JulieA

Morning! Brrrrrrrr....33 on my deck!
Laura....I guess you need to make a phone call. I too have these fleeting, stabbing horrible spasms of pain on the radiated side....they come with no warning, and just disappear. My rad onc and onc to me this might happen....irritation of the "meat" between the ribs. Not saying this is what you are experiencing, but worth a phone call.
JulieChicago...OK, You are now officially done with cr**. Gosh...I love benadryl. Great for use as a sleeping pill! I did stop having it in my iv when I was just on Herceptin. The H ran in 30 minutes and I was way too sleepy to be driving!
JulieA....glad you checked in but really sorry about the mold/leaky windows. Our builder seems to be trying to avoid the whole thing. But not for long...wonder how they will feel if they continue to put off my DH and I print up a little flyer and stick it in every door in these 2 subdivisions...hmmmm...maybe a little article in the Daily Herald about how Cambridge.DR Hortom builds moldy houses and then refuses to fix them????? I am so ready...Hah! I fought BC...this is nothing!!!!!!
Mich101....I did find all the supplies and then I saw all the tools and the $20. instruction books. I left them all there. Good gosh! I will have to take you up on that lesson one day!
Jackie......have you run out of hugs yet???? I don't think so...
WendyTY.....So glad you are nearing the finish line! Don't forget to watch the Lifetime movie Sat.night "Living Proof" about Dr Slamon and Herceptin and how hard he fought to bring this drug to market.
HensonChi....congrats on almost being done! I so remember that last day. I still had 8 months of Herceptin to go, but the se's from chemo were done. Yay for you!!!!
I am off for a very exciting day filled with exercise, laundry, ironing, sheets and picking up my grand-niece from school. Aren't you all just green with envy!

Good morning everyone on this chilly Friday morning! I'm debating on whether I want to hit the golf course this afternoon or curl up on the couch with a good book. Guess I'll just wait awhile and see if the temps go up!
Henson...so glad to hear from you again. You are about DONE! Doesn't that sound great??? Please pop in more often. We've missed you.
JulieB....wow! I'm so sorry that you've had to go through all this stuff! Hugs to you, dear sister. I hope it's smooth saiing from now on for you. You certainly deserve a break!
JulieA..good to hear from you and sorry about your maintenance problems. There's always something, isn't there? I hope that married life is treating you well! Do you have a surgery date scheduled? If so, when is it?
Ginny, please let me know what you find out when you see the surgeon this next week. You are indeed in my thoughts and prayers. If you feel you need to get out for lunch, supper, or to just talk, call me.
Sharon, how are things going with you and your hubby. I've been thinking about you and hope that things are improving.
Karin...I've missed you! Where are you at? Please check in!
Wow Michele! What else besides the charms are you doing for the craft show?
Well, I need to get back to work just in case it warms up and I want to hit the golf course. I'll catch you all later.
Rita

Wendy - I love your little Quote of the Day!! I have a friend who drives pretty crazy & it made me laugh.
Rita - my surgery is on Halloween!!! I am telling everyone I will be The Mummy (although my sister says I'll be Dolly Parton, LOL.)
My butt is asleep from sitting here at the PC listing stuff to sell on Ebay & Craigslist. Gotta pay those durn bills. So - I'm off to do some house cleaning.
Cheers - JulieA

Just back from my 9th chemo. I forgot to eat steak last night. I'm not feeling so hot right now. Hopefully it will only last a couple of hours. My white counts dropped to unacceptable levels. Next week I will have a shot on Thursday to increase my counts. I definitely won't forget my protein meal!
JulieA - I hope life is treating you well. Are you having your final implant put in? I'll keep you in my prayers during your surgery. Halloween is a heck of a day to have it!
Wendy - I am planning on watching the movie unless I happen to forget. I think it will be interesting. Right now, I am recovering from my Benadryl induced nap. My husband always laughs when they start it. He says he can gage how close nap time is by the way I talk. I guess I start slurring my words. The next thing you know, I'm out cold.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Morning! Another chilly morning but sunny today and high near 60 so a pretty good day for October.
Mich101....yes I did see that the charms were half-off but I think I will wait until they have a little free class so I can see what I am doing! Don't forget the movie tonight...also...channel 9 is doing BC stories at 6pm, if you want to check that out, or maybe record it.
Kater...loved the disco ball costume!
Blackjack....well...I see you are off again for the weekend! How does Schaumburg make it thru without you?????
WendyTY...hope you are feeling better. I have learned that naps are a good thing! Who knew!
JulieA....Halloween surgery? Now...that even I wouldn't do! Where are your windows leaking? The builder did come out yesterday after DH gave him until the end of business Friday to address this and he did exactly what we knew he would do. Got a ladder and searched the whole facade of our house, found one tiny little area on the 2nd floor where there was a gap in the caulk and said...."Look...you did not maintain your home...not our fault...yours". We just kept smiling which totally threw him and made him very uncomfortable (hence my quote this am) and then we kinda ambushed him with our neighbor with the leaky windows and he told him the same "cr**" and then we noticed that he was actually missing a piece of flashing (or whatever it is called) and the builder-guy said "well...I will have to search the archives to discover who put in your windows" which is what he told us. By the time he left myself, DH and our neighbor were laughing and grinning like fools. I don't think he liked that much. And yes....I went upstairs and took out the screens and caulked like a caulking fool.
Connie...how are your windows???? Get out the ladder and the caulking gun this weekend while it's not raining.
Hope you all have a wonderful day. DH has a doc appt this morning and I am going to clean out the garage...as soon as it gets warmer that it!

Happy Saturday everyone - nice & sunny out there!
WendyTY - so sorry you're not feeling well. I didn't realize that what you eat the night before can have such an impact, but that really does make sense. Yes, I am having the permanent implants placed on Halloween - I am really hoping that they are more comfortable than the expanders. They still wake me up several times per night.
WendyK - don't you just love the whole "runaround" and blame games with the house stuff? We're not 100% sure how this leak stuff started, but we are pretty sure it's the exterior stonework that wasn't sealed properly around the window. However since this is a townhouse we have an association to deal with, and they don't ever want to pay for anything, or take ownership. They did send a guy over & he's here now assessing stuff. One way or another, we'll get it done.
We are going to visit my Mom today - bringing her "grandson" Buster with us... he always makes her feel good. Nothing else too exciting happening.
Enjoy the weekend, ladies! Love, JulieA

Wendrew - Knuckle sandwich would be perfect for yesterday's guest!
WTY - I hope you start feeling better...fingers are crossed for your wbc's.
JulieA - Awwww...Buster's so cute!
--------------------
Hi girls...well I haven't had the weird pain at my Mast site again...BUT I'm pretty convinced that I have an Ovarian cyst. I have had pain/tenderness/aches in my right side - by the Ovary. I had the same thing - a few years ago - on the left side and the cyst was so huge, it and the Ovary had to be removed. I'm due for my annual pap - so we shall see.
Hope you're all enjoying this chilly weekend. I have been a selling fool! Cleaning out our basement and selling all my crap on Craig's List. In the last week I have sold a 9' xmas tree, a gas dryer, a maple bar (the kind in a rec room) and an engine stand. lol It's been a trip and somewhat amusing...read on...
If you want or need a good laugh:
I got an e-mail from "Brooke" saying she was interested in the Maple wood bar that I was selling on Craig's List. I e-mailed my phone # to her. She called me, her voice was low, kind of manly, but I didn't think much of it. We set up a time for her to pick it up. They arrived...my door bell rang, I opened the door and there's a middle aged woman and a really tall guy standing there. I looked at the woman and said, "Hi Brooke, I'm glad you brought your husband, the bar is pretty heavy." She said, "this isn't my husband, this is my daughter Brooke." OMG - I didn't know what the frick to say, I could feel my face turning red...I was kind of stuttering and I finally just said, "Okee dokee, the bar is in the basement - let's go get it." lol lol lol

Laura - I almost peed in my pants at your story. That is hilarious! We actually have a girl at work that we call Pat - remember That's Pat from SNL? She looks EXACTLY like her. We don't call her that to her face, but she really looks like her.
Sorry to hear that you are worrying about pains and cysts.
Julie - glad you are home. I can't believe they gave you a 2 hr infusion in 1 hr. Sounds like a lawsuit to me. That is horrible! My DH would have been ripping the hospital staff apart for that.
WendyTY - I used to slur my words with the Benadryl drip too. I also would get blurry vision. I have to say I like Benadryl too. Those were some nice naps!
Hope to see you guys Wed!

LOL
Hey...I can't believe it...I'm here before our dear Wendrew! It just isn't the same without you though!
Good Morning...up quite early this AM...can't wait for the clocks to change. I hope it warms up a bit, so I can get my butt outside and do some fall clean up. I HATE preparing for that dirty six letter word that starts with a w and ends with an r. Will be going to the Y as soon as it opens...that's one way to warm up! Literally!

Morning!
Laura....sorry to hear about your maybe cyst. This getting old business...it's always something! Very funny story about "Brooke". And I didn't know you could sell stuff on Craig's List!
Wonder how Jackie is doing? I bet she is having the time of her life with Alissa!
Did anyone watch the movie last night? I enjoyed it. And I really enjoyed the special on BC survivors on ch 9 at 6pm. Dr. Kaklamani was my 2nd opinion!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Wendy- I saw the movie. It was good except hard to watch when some of the ladies didn't qualify for the different stages of the trial and were denied the medicine. Very sad. I missed the show on ch. 9 though.
Laura-Never thought about using Craig's List to try to sell our snowmobile. We've sold 2 with newspaper ads and have 1 more to go - anyone looking for one:)
Connie and others with young children- tell us what costumes they have for Halloween!
JulieA-nothing like bringing a dog for a visit. They are always so happy to see us, and Buster is adorable!
WendyTY-I too liked getting the Benadryl to put me to sleep during chemo. Made the time go much faster.
Happy,healthy Sunday Everyone!

Hi ladies - it's getting late on Sunday night - and looks like it was kind of mellow here today... nobody has posted since Michele this morning........ hope everyone got out & did something fun today.
The bears game was great!!! Not a bad day outside, either. Although I loathe the approach of winter, I am glad we are having a decent fall. The trees are looking amazingly beautiful this year.
Buster says "Thank you" for saying that he is cute. He just eats it up!!
Have a good one - JulieA

Okay... now I'm really worried... I beat Wendrew here again! LOL Are you shaking your a** at the health club already!
------------------------------
Connie - Too funny ...about Pat...I do remember that skit!
I am wondering how Jackie is too! Can't wait to hear the details.
Michele - Craig's List is VERY user friendly...my mother could even do it! LOL And she has never even TOUCHED a computer! LOL
blackJack - How are you girl? Have you thought about listing your condo on C's List? You may want to check it out...it's FREE!
We LOVE BUSTER, We LOVE BUSTER!

Well girls off to the Y and then to lunch with my gal pal... we're meeting at Maggianos!

Hi
Just poppin in....I---and I tremble a bit at typing this--- think I might actually be finally on the mend. The latest-- post surgery Tuesday, the infection was cultured and I got a call Friday indicating they had isolated the bacteria causing the infection. And wouldn't you guess-- a pretty rare one. (Can't recall the name right now!). Figures. I just can't seem to do anything normally. So it turns out that my million dollar pills AND the IV antiobiotic I had the PICC installed for and have been self administering-- are not effective against it. (Insert long Aaaaarrrgghhhh!! here ). Now they want me on Cipro. Oh no- I HATE Cipro. That's what gave me he huge C-diff infection when I was given Cipro for an infection I caught on chemo in 2000. But I've learned to combine it with high dose lactobacillus and am not as immuno-suppressed as I was then- so hoping for the best right now. Am dealing with the diarrhea- it's already started. But, on the plus side, the reaction in my still somewhat red skin was immediate- it looks remarkably improved as of this am. Still have PICC line in and hope it can be removed Wed (next doc appt). I'm also finally in a sports bra- PS didn't want any pressure on the implant until he felt it could handle it.
We had a decent weekend. Kids went to a local "harvest fest" and came home with painted faces. My daughter had a complete meltdown when it came to washing off her "tattoo." grin. I made it to church with the family yesterday and then out for pancakes afterward. Ridiculous that I was exhausted by the time we got back- but guess it's going to take a bit to get my usual energy back.
Laura- I, too, discovered Craig's List. I skeptically put my daughter's toddler bed and mattress on it and I had 5 offers within an hour!! Sold it to a Palatine family that lived 2 blocks away! Now I am walking around the house with the digital camera going hmmmm......maybe we could lose this....
Am going to try to make it to dinner Wed- looking forward to seeing everyone then!
