    Hi gals!

We had a lovely and hectic Thanksgiving.  Then we visited Santa in the Mall on Friday.  Santa could hardly keep a straight face when he asked my youngest grandson what he wanted for Christmas.  Grant told him he wanted a live pet.  When Santa asked what kind of live pet, Grant said, "A lion...a real lion...not a make believe one!"  We all put up the Christmas tree before they left yesterday afternoon.  It is decorated in perfect "toddler style" and I'm not changing it one bit! LOL

Laura...your tree is fantastic!  How artistic you are!  After seeing this creation, I am SURE that you would love the Spoon River Drive.  This is exactly the type of thing that is sold on the drive.  Wow!  What a great personal gift!  You need to think about marketing your OWN designs and starting your own business, gal.

Karin...You are so technology oriented.  I wouldn't have the least liittle idea how to coordinate my Christmas lights to music.  That's pretty amazing.  I wish I was closer so I could see your production.

Ginny...Gosh, I'm sorry to hear about the lymphodema.  It sounds like you are on top of the problem, though.  I'm also glad that you are going with us to the luncheon.  I'll get back to you with more details as it gets closer.  We're going to meet at my house that morning.

Little C...lots of us are worried about you.  Please check in!

Wendy..I would have loved to work for your hubby!  A little bit of encouragement and recognition goes a long way in motivating teachers to do their best.  He's pretty special!

I'm glad that everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  We do all have so much to be thankful for.

Please put me in your prayers this week as I will be heading for Peoria on Friday for my mammo on the "bad girl" and my 6 month check up with the surgeon.  As usual, I'm a little apprehensive about this.

I'm off to wrap a few presents before we eat and head for the bowling alley tonight.  Why did I buy so many gifts????  I hate wrapping presents (but not as much as I hate grocery shopping!!!  LOL) I think part of the reason is that I get too stiff sitting on the floor doing it and I don't have the right kind of table or counter to use.  Then I have no place where I can leave out all the wrapping paper, etc. until I'm finally done with all of it.  Gripe, gripe, gripe......LOL

Enough procrastination.  I'm out of here.

Hey everyone- checking in to see how everyone is doing. Looks like we all had good Thanksgivings. Even without a kitchen, we managed. We cooked turkey breast (along with stuffing) in an oven bag in a pan on the grill, garlic mashed potatoes made in an an electric stock pot, microwaved veggies, bakery rolls and pies, various salads and relishes, etc. Everything turned out great and I ate too much!

Unfortunately, I had a bad bout with my Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome last night, and, from how I am feeling, I may be having another bout tonight. That's usually how it works.

They are predicting 2-4 inches today with more tomorrow. Looks like my roof shingles are not getting installed any time soon.

Karin, your house light decorations sound neat!  I'd love to see it- maybe you could get a video up on Ytube??

Rita, all my good vibes are being sent towards you!  I'm sure everything will be alright, but it sure is hard not to worry??

Elfsong- ((Hugs)) to you, sorry that chemo is being so rough on you.  I've heard that it's often that way when you are younger.  But I agree with Wendy, your doctors should have lots of options to offer you! I sure hope you can make it to the lunch- if you feel up to it.  If I have my car that day, I'd be more then willing to come down and pick you up, if you'd like. I would not know until about Saturday if my husband needs my car or not, but you probably won't know until Sunday how you may feel??

Laura, love the trinket tree.  You are one crafty person, that's for sure!

Ginny, sorry to hear about your lymphedema.  I have truncal LE, but so far my arm has been spared.  Manual drainage massage has helped with my chest.

Have to go to work- just hope I make it to 10 pm and get home before I have a CVS episode!

    Waves and hugs to everyone!

    Hi girls,

I am trying to load a new avatar and I cannot.  Has anyone else ever had a problem?  I think it says something about wrong image type.  I am doing the same thing I have always done in the past.

    Thanks.

Evening all!!!!  Light snow falling, but nothing too much.

Susan...glad your back is OK.  Mine is too!  Perfect since Thursday....but I am holding my breath!

Rita...sounds like you had a fantastic Thanksgiving!  Yep...my DH is a pretty amazing boss!  I've always told him to treat his staff as he would like to be treated and it's worked.

Karin...how cool!  I have no idea how to do lights/computer stuff.  My lights are just controlled by simple timers.

Lisamed...yep..I had trouble uploading a new avatar so I just left my old one.  LauraGTO is so good at this stuff..why not PM her?

JanClare...sorry you are still stuck with CVS.  But you did manage to put together a wonderful meal..;amazing what we can do with a toaster oven and microwave!

Hope you are all having a great Suinday....the movie "The Christmas Shoes" is on tonight at 8PM and I will be watching, and of course...shedding a few tears!  It's a great movie tho...

Take care on the roads tomorrow.....

    oops...Ginny...

I am so sorry that you have to deal with LE on top of everything else.  Sounds like you have a plan in place tho.

I check my arm every am after my shower and so far, so good.

Your daughter sounds like her head is on straight and pointed in the right direction.  So...Yay for her, and for you.  It must be so hard to watch her go thru all of that.  Seems like she is doing well....so I am happy for you!

    Good morning gals!

My backyard is a complete winter wonderland.  I'm guessing that we've got about 7 inches here.  It began late Saturday night or early Sunday morning and has continued off and on.  It's still snowing now but is very fine so hopefully it's about over.  I think today is a good day to wrap more packages, catch up on my taped "Desperate Housewives" and do laundry.  Hopefully things will be cleared off tomorrow so I can get into town for bowling early in the morning.  Heaven forbid if I can't get there!  LOL

Everyone be careful out there today and have a good Monday!  Stay warm, safe, and healthy!

    Catch you later.......

Good Morning everyoneFrown  Well, ahem, it's snowing outside.  So far, we are lucky though.  They are some of the tiniest flakes I've ever seen.  Still, even though there will not be an accumulation we will have to put up with a bit of breeze and cold air.  We all knew winter was coming but I'm definitely as are many of you, dragging my feet kicking and screaming.  Sigh !!!!!

Now is when I wish I had a little more hair, but in time.  I was shopping yesterday and ran across a Grit magazine.  I remember years ago as a small kid my parents took this....it used to come out in a newspaper magazine format.  I'm looking through it......and who knows.  I don't take many magazines as you can find most of what you need or want on the Internet.....but Newsweek, Taste of Home ( as much for the tips and hints -- how I made it special etc. and pictures of how something should look  ) and a couple of Spice Catalogs.

Glad you all had a nice Thanksgiving.  It was wonderful.  I went out to feed my feral cats yesterday and at the end of the lane a black truck was parked.  I saw a fellow in camaflage getting ready to walk into the woods ( that area is actually a small farm that has been allowed to grow up to shelter wildlife ) so I went out to the main road, turned around and came back.  I honked several times and he came back to the edge of the thicket.....told him that he should not be hunting there ---  the lady who owned that farm did not allow it and if she saw him would call the police.  He told me that he had permission.  I left to go feed the cats vowing to deal with it after I got done.  I drove up to Susan's house after, but she didn't seem to be home.  Just as well.  When I came back down our lane the truck was gone....so he did not have permission.  There are too many people living around here for hunters anyway.......but I felt certain Susan would never allow anyone to come on her land and hunt.  I came home happy knowing the many deer, quail and wild turkey that make their home on her land were safe and sound.

Onward for the day.......all stay well.  I'll be checking in later.

Good morning everyone.   Well - it's official.  It's winter.

I've decided that I'm going to try my best to shift my attitude about the winter weather.  Will I ever love it ?  No.   But I live here - and now that I married Mr. Chicago, I ain't going anywhere.  Tongue out

I haven't caught up on all the postings yet, just skimmed a bit  - I've got to work on my resume today.  This is probably the worst time to find a job (just before year end, since corporations are doing their budgets, etc...  but can't hurt to be ready & get my feet wet.)

JanClare - I really hope you are feeling better.

Laura - LOVE the trinket tree!! Adorable.

Everyone else - I hope everyone is doing well & had a nice holiday.  1 week til the party!!!

    Hugs, "Juliet"

    YES, IT IS WINTER!!   ACK!

And we still don't have our shingles installed!

I have to go pick up my son at the airport sometime today- but I don't know when, and I don't know where! He's flying stand-by and may come into Milwaukee, not O'Hare. I sure hope he gets on a flight to O'Hare! They are predicting MORE snow this afternoon.

And my dog must have a urinary tract infection, even though she acting the same. She is peeing dark red blood (which is easy to see in the snow) and I'm now wondering how long this has been festering! I have an 11:30 appointment, so we shall see...

I ending up working until midnight yesterday. Didn't feel that well, but managed to avoid the start of a CVS episode. Don't ask me why sometimes I can control the symptoms, but 80% of the time, I can't.

Got some sleep last night, but woke up at 8 am to the carpenters ripping out the last of the old kitchen floor. So at least something is getting done.

Off to see if I can get a "clean sample" of the dog's pee. Hard to do with so much snow- I've tried this before. Even if I can get something under her, I end up scooping up some snow as well!

    Hugs to everyone!

    Hi everyone!

Carol(berrypatch)-Thinking of you tomorrow as you start your chemo. Please check back in and let us know how you are doing.

Jan-Hope your dog will be ok-she is sooo cute! Glad you are feeling better too. What was your picture? I only could see that dreaded red X.

Laura-I forgot to tell you how much I enjoyed looking at your tree!

Jackie-Glad you were able to help the animals. One time when I was walking my dogs by a cornfield, there were hunters waiting for a flock of geese to fly by. Well, a flock starting flying over and I was yelling to them to go the other way and waving. I must have looked ridiculus. They didn't listen to me and one did get shot :(

Rita-Will be thinking of you on Friday for your mamo. Good thoughts heading your way!

Hair highlights and cut tomorrow-I am way past due! For those who have lost or are losing their hair, on a positive note, my hair came back in BETTER than it was prechemo! My stick straight thin hair has become thicker with some wave/curl. MUCH easier to style.

Juliet...When you figure out how to change your attitude about winter, please pass on your method to me!  I share your sentiments on the cold and snow!

JanClare...Like Michele, I only get that dreaded red x so I couldn't see your picture, either.

Glad to hear from you Michele.  Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts.  I bet the hair style will be "smashing!"  :-)

I'm off to find my recliner.

    Have a good Tuesday!

Morning!  Brrrrrrrr.....and I am not a happy camper.  Couldn't get the blower started yesterday so had to shovel and clean off my SUV....ouchy back today!  But DH put the blower in my car and I dropped it off and told them to fix it right now!!!!  They were laughing!  It could be the spark plug but on my model it's buried under the housing so deep I would have been out there bending over for hours trying to get the stupid thing apart.  I made an executive decision to have the "guys" fix it.

Jan...count me in...no pic, just the dreaded red x.

Mich101...I can see you now, jumping up and down, yelling at the birds that they were flying in the wrong direction.  Those men now probably refer to you as the crazy bird lady.

Rita....good luck with your tests!  Fingers crossed for you....

Just talked to my SIL down near Cocoa Beach...she was complaining that it was in the 60's and a bit chilly.  Oh those poor, poor Florida people...

No word on DH's niece...her bx got moved to Friday now and it will be bil stereotactic wiith "lots" of samples....more waiting.  Oh well....we all know about waiting, don't we?

Gotta scoot....lots of stuff to do and moving slowly today!  Everyone, have a great day and stay warm!

Hi all - lots of posts to catch up on.  Sound like everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.  Mine was wonderful.  I was prepared for the kids to be bored but they weren't.  We made our turkey (turned out awesome), played a few games and watched some movies.  They also played in the snow a few times.  It was truly a great day!

Laura - love the trinket tree!  You have a gift!

Wendy - you are never without a great story!  Love it!

Elfsong - sorry about the hair and nausea.  I also got my wig from the Willowbrook store - Naturally Yours.  They were so nice!

In 22 days, we will be headed to Florida for vacation.  It's in the 70's there this week so I hope that stays.  I originally bought our tickets from Southwest in June for $320.  Last week, SW was practically giving the flights away at $68 each way.  I was able to switch our flights around and get a credit for over $500!

Thinking of everyone going through rough times!

Connie - what a deal!! that's great.   Oooh Florida....   that sounds fabulous.

Wendy - sorry ur back is hurting.  That was some heavy snow wasn't it ?  And all icy beneath the snow - that doesnt' make it any easier.

Michele - enjoy having your hair done (ahhh pampering!)

My stylist asked my friend where I've been (haven't had a cut in 3 months now...  I'm a bit of a rat head!)  I'm finnaly going to go this Friday, DH is treating me :)  What a sweetheart!!!

I applied for a job right here in Schaumburg - we'll see if I hear back.  I sure hope so, because it says I can work from home some days. I would love that on the icky snowy days.

Oh Rita - yeah, as of today my Winter Attitude Adjustment hasn't really happened yet, lol.   As soon as there is snow on the ground, Buster does not want to "go" outside.   He'd rather wait & sneak off & poop in the hallway.   Oy vey!!!  Just call me Momma Pooper Scooper.    So, I was cursing the winter weather this morning - again.

Keep warm everyone - Hugs, "Juliet"

Well, I had my first chemo treatment today.  It lasted all of 5 min!  They started the Taxotere, and I got very flushed and red in the face also short of breath.  So....I am starting all over again on 12/9, still with Taxotere and Cytoxan, but with a different schedule.  I have to take 20 mg Decadron on Sunday nite and Monday night.  Then they are doubling the dosage of Benedryl in the IV. The Taxotere will be infused more slowly.  They told me that this is not an uncommon reaction, so I will still be having chemo, they just have to make sure that I have more than enough Decadron and Benedryl in my system before they run the Taxotere.  I must say, all I have to do was say "something's wrong!" and I had 4 nurses and Dr. Sobel right there, shouting orders, get some oxygen! do this! Do that!  I felt very well cared for.  As soon as they turned off the Taxotere, I felt better.

Needless to say, I am VERY DISAPPOINTED!  I had to move my hair shaving date to 12/16.  One good thing tho!  I will be feeling good for the luncheon on Monday, and I'll not be feeling bad over Christmas.  You know, I had my entire month planned around these treatments, and now this!

Carol - sorry to hear about the bad reaction today!!  But I am glad to hear that they were right there for you & that you felt well cared for.  That's so important.  And we are all glad that you will be feeling well enough to come on the 8th!!

    Take care!

Hi Carol, I'm sorry to hear that you had a Taxotere reaction.  I'm glad that you got it handled right away and I do think it's not an un-common thing.  I worried more about reactions when I switched over after my first four txs. to Taxotere for some reason.  But.....I went sailing right through with no problem.  It is frustrating after getting yourself UP for the schedule you WOULD have, had things proceeded w/o incident....but it really is an up side that you will be able to enjoy the luncheon and your X-mas more. Have to grab onto the good where we find it.

Juliet......as Buster seems somewhat determined to "stay" inside on his potty break...maybe you could think about getting some of those 'training pads' and at least it might be a bit easier to clean up when the weather is bad.

We are still going back and forth over the X-mas party at work.  It has been changed three times.  So far my luck is holding.

For those of you having sent pm's to me.....for some reason my computer is not notifying me when one comes in.  I checked my settings and it's marked for notification.  For now I'll just have to keep checking my page till my pc hits tilt again and maybe it will start working properly again.

Well, I'll see ya'll later.  Back to work for me.

    Hi All,

Welcome to Elfsong and hope you start feeling better.  Your mom will help.

Sorry, I cannot go on the 8th, that is when I have an appointment with the anestheisologist dept. to see if I am "fit" for surgery on the 12th.

On the 12th they will take out my two ovarian masses (one grapefruit size, and one has appeared in the last wo months and is ping pong ball size).  They will also take out my uterus, ovaries, tubes, and cervix.  If the smaller one is what was a preliminary diagnosis of a "tumor of low malignant potential" they may talk out my appendix and omentum.  The Dr. is also going to do a fly by of the spots on my liver and pancreas.  Due to multiple biopsies on the cervix, she has to cut from the belly button down to the pubic bone.  I am not looking forward as I know I will feel like S#*@T for a couple of days.  3 days in the hospital.

I asked her if she thought this could be related to BC.  She said it was unlikely but would not give me any guarantees.  My husband comes next Wednesday, and my sons are taking off work to make the 12th a family day to the hospital.

Wish I could be with you on the 8th, but maybe next time in January and I can share horror stories of surgery.  However, I do not anticipate showing my scar.  I think it will be scary.Laughing

Mornng all...more snow coming this way I see but my blower is fixed!  I dropped it off at about 8:40 and they called at 10:45 and it was done.  How's that for service!  Turns out my fuel line was clogged so I couldn't have fixed it myself anyway.  I will pick it up this am and get some new gas/oil and I will be ready.

Sharon....I am really sorry that I won't get to see you on the 8th.  Never fear that we won't be talking about you, wishing, hoping and praying for your surgery on the 12th.  What Hosp again will you be at?  It was one of the biggies downtown, correct?

Carol/berrypatch....yep, tax's do cause those reactions!  I had no reactions to anything until my last chemo...than when I was almost done my palms and soles turned bright red and started to itch horribly but by then my pump was beeping and I was done.  They just gave me a benadryl by mouth and I waited 30 minutes and I was fine.  But it must be so hard to psych yourself up and then have to wait.  This waiting business is sucky.  Wait, wait, wait.  Blech.

Connie...my niece, her family and her inlaws will be in Fl for Christmas as well.  Will you be at Disney?  Wouldn't it be funny if you guys ran into each other, but didn't know it!  She probably doesn't live too far from you either...she's in North Aurora.

Princess Juliet....I never minded any weather but as I age (read: get OLD) I hate the cold.  We would love to move somewhere warm but DH won't be able to retire anytime soon as he just joined the public schools after 24 years in Catholic schools so his pension from Illinois right now would be too small for us and with my health now we need the insurance.  But...we keep playing the lottery!

Jackie...good thing you are taking care of the animals in this weather.  You are such a good soul.  Have you been in touch with Alissa?  Any chance of her coming to see you anytime soon?

Blackjack...where you at girlfriend?  Hope you are being happy and healthy!

Mich101...how did the new "do" do?  Bet you look gorgeous, you crazy old bird lady!

Hope you all have a wonderful day and please be careful driving later...sounds like it might be very icy on the roads!

Wendy, you are up and moving early this morning again.  Do you have special plans for the day?

Carol, I am glad that you're going to make it to the luncheon but sorry that you had that terrible reaction.  It sounds like they took good care of you and that the next time will be uneventful.  I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Mama Pooper Scooper....you have the perfect dog for you.  Buster shares your opinions about winter!  LOL  Loved that story!

Michele, how does the new hair style look?  So glad that we're all going to get to see the new you on Monday!

Well, I'm off to bowling.  Then Wendy TY and I are walking and I'm shopping at Bergners.  It's really terrible when you get excited about Senior Day at Bergners!  However, my wardrobe need help and there's no time like the present to attack that problem!

Let's hope that we don't get too much snow and ice later this afternoon and evening.

    Enjoy your day!

Sharon - we will all be thinking and praying for you next week.  I'm sure that you will come through with flying colors, but that surgery sure does sound extensive.

Wendy - yes, we will be in Disney.  I will have to carry a sign looking for Wendy's niece!  I'm a Disney expert so if she has any questions - send her to me!  It will be super crowded there but I know all the tricks so that we won't wait in any lines.

I'm cautiously looking forward to Monday - so far nothing has come up at work, but you never know.

    Good morning everyone,

Now that everyone knows what I look like.....I can put my sweetie pie's picture in here.  Cloudy this a.m. but warm -- translates to some rain this late afternoon.  Winter seems determined to start out just as dreary as it usually does.

Sharon, you really do seem to 'need' a lot of interior design there  --  you will be a new woman when it's all done.  You have all my prayers for an un-eventful surgery and very speedy recovery.

I have been talking with Alissa via the computer......but as you know, after signing on with Charter we can now make long distanced calls anywhere at any time of the day etc.  NOW if I can just remember ( read:get OLD ) that I can do this w/o long distance charges I will be able to actually talk to her in person a lot more often.  Best take advantage......I know after a year ( they have you good and hooked then ) the prices for some of these services will go up.  Anyway, I'm not used to it so I'll have to train myself to USE this.

This is definitely going to be a great time for me this year.  It's been a year now ( I noticed this when I changed my avatar ) since I found this thread and came here to stay.  Also as well, December last year was the beginning of my chemo rounds and the end of them stretched out into forever or so it seemed.  Looking back I almost feel as though I were in a strange fog with all the un-certainties of treatment and knowing that I was on hold in a strange way while I did the txs.  I am still working on who I am now, but I do always feel forward movement and not the in limbo untilsort of existence that was taking place then.  In fact, in looking back there is almost a sense of un-reality  ---  so while I'd be in no rush to have to do anything like that again....it was just as doable as everyone said.

Well, onward for the day.  Hope you all have a good day.

jackie - love the new avatar! Buster is in love (well, if it's a girl dog, lol!)   I did get Piddle Pads for Buster quite a while ago.  He will #1 on them, but not #2.  Well - let's just say he misses with the #2.    He's a strange little animal.

Rita - hope you had fun shopping & bowling!!!   It's nice that you see WendyTY so much.

Wendy - yay, the blower is fixed.  So far there's not too much snow out there... you are a bit west of me though, so maybe it's a bit worse by you.

Sharon - so sorry that you need to have that surgery.  It does not sound like fun at all (hug).  We'll be thinking of you & toasting to your recovery on the 8th.

DH is at his work Holiday Party.  Employees only - so I don't get to go, wahhh!!! LOL.  Actually I don't mind one bit.. and it's nice for him to get out & socialize without me tagging along ;)

Buster & I are just relaxing, doing our nails.  No call about the job I applied for... oh well.  It's a weird time to try & get a new job I think, so I'm not upset about it.   Everything will work itself out, I have faith.  DH is working hard & taking great care of me, of us......   so I feel very blessed.

Be careful if you are out there driving, ladies.   I heard we are getting another round of snow on Monday, and they better be WRONG.  We need nice, clear weather so everyone can get together :)

Have a good night - "Juliet"

Hi everyone-not sure about my new cut/color. I need to practice styling it I guess, but no worries, it will grow out! I went with a foil this time instead of a highlight with a cap. The color, well, I'm not too sure I'm thrilled with that either.

Can't wait to see everyone on the 8th. Sure hope we don't get snow then :(

    Jackie-your dog is sooo cute.

Morning....I've posted this before...it's Kailua Beach on Oahu and boy do I wish I was there right now...9 on my deck this am!  Blech.

Mich101 (crazybirdlady)...I'm sure you look great!  And....you can always go back and change the color.  Boy...do I know about that.  Remember my little "highlighting" disaster last Feb?

    Jackie...love your avatar!

Connie...I will be sending you a PM.  My niece would def. love tips for Disney at Christmas.

Rita....I didn't have anything exciitng to do that early in the am.  Just a masterbath and a noisy husband!  Who can sleep with the shower roaring away and his shower radio turned up full blast to some frickin sports channel.  Might as well just get up....

Juliet...nope, virtually NO snow out here BUT....black ice on my driveway and in the streets.  Don't know yet if I am venturing out to the gym.  Last thing I want to do is take a fall.

Hope you are all doing well...;LittleC, calling LittleC...are you OK?

Have a great day ladies and PLEASE be careful drivng AND walking.  That little dusting of snow can be very deceiving.

Faith is free and available to all people at all times.

It only requires that one fully embrace possibility,

and the ultimate value is in the depth of the embrace.
