Morning......brrr, and who kn owes how it's going to go in the next week or so.  Anyway, even if it's chilly I'm looking forward to today.  My boss is no longer giving holiday pay so I'm in need of a paycheck.  I feel like I have been off for way too long.  That is what comes from not taking off any time for five years I think.

I have you gals to thank for my ability to change my avatar.  Something I never bothered to learn how to do before now.  Course' since I came to computing late  ( ok, yes I do remember computers being THE thing about the time I graduated high school ) there is almost nothing I can do on a computer so anything I finally learn is quite the bonus.

Anyway for you younger gals.....computers used to take up major space in large rooms at work places.  But -- like a lot of people back then.....I really thought they would never become what they have and very much so that they would ever become small enough to set on a desk and do a jillion things  with as fast as you can type a few words and commands.  Just goes to show how smart I wasn't then --- and we won't talk about now either.  I'm just darn glad.  I was kicking and screaming about the first computer in our household --- bought used with almost no memory left....but we didn't know that.  It got us started though my fear of ???? doing what ???? lasted a really long time.  I at least learned that you can't do much to a computer that you can't UN-do, but most real problems come from viruses and other malware.  Now if I can just remember that long enough to experiment and learn to do something else.

Hope you all stay warm and have a fantastic day.  Glad you llike the avatar.

Morning all!    I hate this cold!

Wendy - I just sent your niece a loooong email.  I hope it's helpful.  Disney to me is like Vegas to Blackjack.  I've been a million times, love it every time and know all the tricks to a good trip.

Hope everyone has a good day!

BSGI info-- thought might be interest to the group. Sorry-can't figure out how to reduce the size!

Molecular Breast Imaging Identifies Occult Cancer Proves to be Strong Adjunctive Imaging Tool to Mammography
Last update: 4:30 p.m. EST Dec. 3, 2008 CHICAGO, Dec 03, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) is shown to be an effective method of identifying mammographically and clinically occult (hidden) breast cancer. BSGI is a molecular breast imaging technique that can see lesions independent of tissue density and discover very early stage cancers. According to findings presented today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in this study of women where breast cancer was already suspected via mammogram or physical exam, BSGI identified additional suspicious lesions in 29 percent of the patients and found a previously unsuspected cancer in 9 percent of women. "BSGI is an emerging technology that goes beyond mammography as an effective imaging procedure for early breast cancer detection," said Dr. Rachel Brem, Director of Breast Imaging and Intervention at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology. In this study, a retrospective review was performed on the records of all patients who had BSGI examinations over a three-year period. Among these, 159 women who had only one suspicious or cancerous breast lesion on a physical exam and/or mammography, underwent BSGI to evaluate additional cancerous lesions in the breasts, and were proven by pathology to have one or more areas of breast cancer. BSGI detected an additional suspicious lesion, previously undetectable by mammogram and physical exam, in 46 women (29 percent). BSGI identified clinically and mammographically hidden cancer in 15 of 39 women who had a biopsy or prophylactic excision due to BSGI findings (36 percent) and in 15 women who underwent BSGI in this study (9 percent), including nine women in whom the hidden cancer was present in the same breast as the indicated lesion (6 percent) and six women in whom the undetectable cancer was found in the opposite breast (3 percent). BSGI for the study was conducted using a Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera, a high- resolution, small field-of-view gamma camera, optimized to perform breast imaging. Dr. Brem and colleagues have published numerous articles on breast cancer-related topics including new technologies for the early diagnosis of breast cancer and BSGI.

    Hi:

Remember the week I had three root canals in one week? Well, one is bothering me....not bad...but shouldn't be feeling anything at all.  I have an appointment on Monday as I took the day off for lunch. If I have a problem, I will stay and get it fixed and that means missing the lunch.  I will not know until that morning.  I am maxed out on all dental until January 1 when I can begin again.  I just pray that if it is a problem, I do not need to pay for  the work.  I have a brand new cap on it so that means taking it off....unless the x-ray can go through it.  Oh, woe is me.

Susan - as someone who has been in dental h*ll for the past 2 years, I feel your pain & I am so sorry you've got more problems.    Hopefully it will be something easy to take care of - but yeah, after the root canal, you should feel nothing.   They can xray through the crown (cap).

I'm gearing up for another root canal myself - I need to do it asap & I keep putting it off.  I maxed out my dental too - even with the insurance, there's the co-pay.

Sending you good dental vibes & really hope you make it to the lunch on Monday!!!

Hi girls!  It's amazing how busy life gets when you are feeling better after chemo is done.  At times, I looked at your posts and wondered if I would ever get there.  Well, I'm officially ready to go back to work so I can rest!  Rita and I have been having a great time walking and doing some shopping.  She got some real cute stuff yesterday.  My brother is on the phone so I got run.

If Ihave offended anyone, I am sincerely sorry but you guys know me.  I got this in an email from my niece this am and I roared!  I had just been at Target, looking at toys and they have all these "sets" for Barbie, including "I want to be a TV Chef" of all things.  Gee...why not a "I want to be a human sacrifice Barbie"!  Again...I am sorry if it was a little out there and if you were offended.  But sorry....I am still laughing....and anything that might you guys laugh first thing on the 5 degree morning I think is a good thing!

Susan...so sorry about your tooth.  I'm no dental expert but I think what will happen is that you'll get an x-ray and if indeed it is something (hopefully not) they have to drill off the cap if they can't pop it off and they almost never (read: 99%) can get it off in one piece.  They will fix what's wrong and mold you for a new cap (yikes...more $$$$$) and give you a temp.  If your appt. is early enuf you might still be able to make lunch so I have my fingers crossed for you!

WendyTY...yep.  Never seems like you will be where the other ladies are, done with tx, when you are in tx.  Seems like it will be your whole life and in a lot of ways, it was your whole life.  Consumed everything.  Nice to look forward to LIVING, isn't it!  YOU GO GIRL!!!!

Jackie....I''ve been "computering" for years and years.  Got my first home computer in 1995, but had them at work before that.  I cannot imagine life without them.  I didn't have them in school either, of course.  In fact, I am so old we still used an abacus (or our fingers!).

Connie...thanks so much for sending my niece the email.  I hope you saved a copy tho...I warned her that your email was coming and hopefully you won't get accidentally deleted.  You are so sweet to do this for her, and I know she will appreciate it!

Juliechicago...thanks for the BSGI info.  I will have to ask if that is coming to Delnor anytime soon.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday and stay warm.  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,  and  BLECH!!!

Joyfulness keeps the heart and face young. A good laugh makes us better friends with ourselves and everybody around us.
    Orison Swett Marden

Morning...don't have much time so I'm putting my note in the quote section.  Wendy......the quote sums it up....we will take our laughs whenever and wherever.....as long as they come and keep us young and spirited.    Actually....I too find the picture funny.  I remember a few ??? years ago when there was controversy about Barbie's shape and too much cleavage or something of that ilk.  Seeing anything Barbie is just a hoot to me now....after that.

Weather here is getting quite crappy.  I'm hoping it will undergo a change for the better.  It was 23 degrees last night.....when we had to be out as Dh promised our friend who owns Little Tulsa Cafe that we would stop in....thank you Dh.

Need to get my day going.  Hope you all have a fantastic one.  Stay warm...I'm still working on being warmer.  Where are those hot flashes when you need one.

Hi everyone!  I'm back and I'm smiling!  That ridge of tissue around my scar that's always concerned me is still there (but shrinking) and there was no other sign of any problems.  Breathe in, breathe out, and begin to move on again with life.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement.  Wow!  What a support system this is!

I hope the weather holds for us on Monday.  We are planning on leaving my house around 8 in the morning....Mary Jane, Wendy TY, Ginny, and I if it's safe enough to travel and we're all looking forward to seeing all of you!

I hope your tooth is better, Susan!  How I understand tooth problems!  :-(

Well, I need to get some more packages wrapped and my house straightened up.  We're going out with friends tonight for supper and I do indeed plan on celebrating the 2 year mark tonight!

    Catch you later.

    Rita,

Yes, moving on. I too am so happy for you that can move on with the good news that you are doing just fine.  These tests give us pause, don't they?  I am just one month before you in terms of dx and I am stunned to realize that I still think of  IT daily.  Even so, I actually think I am moving on as I think of it daily, yet less often within the day.

I am hoping to get there for chat if not lunch on Monday. Thank you, Blackjack, for all you do. I have so many issues with my teeth, yet I am so grateful that my teeth can be fixed.  I have my appointment that morning in Glenview.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

Morning!  Hey Princess Juliet...you gotta admit...the snow is pretty!  And it's a whopping 25 on my deck!  Time to uncover the grill!

Rita.....YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  See...I told you.  You need to listen to Mama Winnie......

Susan...I too think about the beast every day, just not every minute or every hour anymore.  There is a woman DH works with that never said anything until she found out about me...she is a 15 year survivor (heck...must be 17 now!) and she still thinks about it every day...but only now in the morning, in the shower.  So I guess what we feel now, still so close to dx is all perfectly normal.  Good luck on Monday with the dentist.

Mich101....the weight?  Don't obsess over it right now....holiday time is so hard to focus on healthy eating when every which way you turn someone else is shoving a cookie in your mouth.  How about you set a realistic goal for yourself.?  Say you want to lose five pounds by Jan 6th?  So...say about 1 pound a week (so I can do the math in my head!).  One pound is equal to about 3500 calories.  Divide that by 7 days, so eat 500 less calories each day.  One thing my SIL did was to do that Special K diet, eat a bowl for breakfast and a bowl for lunch.  But I am sure that is hard for you at work.  And then whatever or however you cut those 500 calories per day, add in exercise that burns another 500...you can easily lose on this regime.  You have a dog...walk REALLY fast for 20-30 min on weekdays, maybe an hour on the weekends.  Your dog will love it, and so will the scale.  Hope that helps.  But the last time I saw you, you looked skinny to me!

Blackjack....thanks again from me too for all the planning...Monday should be lots of fun!

Laura...glad you liked my Barbie as dinner!  DH didn't get it...I guess you just needed to  be out, buying barbie c**p, and then seeing this!  Still cracks me up....troll dolls really do look like cannibals and I never noticed that before!

Karin...how are the neighbors?  Mine...when they shovel...do it in the middle of the night. Yep...2am the other night...and no, they don't work odd hours.  And there wasn't much snow.  I give up...

LittleC...heard from Laura that she spoke with you...here's some good vibes coming your way re: your thyroid!  Hope to see you on Monday...you are my BD twin, after all!

    JanClare...how's your tummy?

Smerf...glad you are home, safe and sound, from the Big Apple (or wherever in NY you went)!  Hope your holiday was fantastic.

Time to get my 2nd cup...DH is taking my SUV for an oil change and to get new wipers so to scare him silly at 5am I said that would be fine and I would just take his new Jeep to the mall....you should have heard him...why?  what do you need?  I'll get it.  I'll drive you.  Can't it wait?  Where are you going?  Do you know how to drive it?  HUH?????  Who exactly was the one who showed him how everything worked????  But I just said that to make him crazy first thing in the morning....we need to keep our husbands on their toes.  And frankly, it's just fun!

Hope everyone is doing as well as expected, wherever you are in tx/dx.  Dh's niece had her bx's yesterday and is very sore.  She gets the results on Wednesday so keep your fingers crossed, okay?

Brrrrr, chilly, chilly here and snow on the ground.  Not a lot thank goodness but I'm not thrilled beyond measure that there is any.  Hope everyone's tests, bx's and txs go well and that all tests come out most positive in a GOOD way.

My weight is staying good in spite of the load ( truck-18 wheeler ) of junk that sneaks in my mouth while I am not watching.  Keep thinking that the chemo killed a bunch of fat cells and there is much less to fill up now than there use to be.  I still haven't put any real focus on an over-all eating plan --- just that it will be South Beach style, and I have not decided on any sort of exercise plan either.  I did read if you want to rev your metabolism and have it going for several hours that you should start your walk at normal pace ----  then a few minutes into it, walk fairly brisk till you really bring your heart rate up, then back to a slower pace.....and do that throughout your walk...or through most of it.

I'm thinking the point to that was that you don't have to really wear yourself out doing cardio things or even extensive exercising to get your metabolism rev'ed up and burning long after you have been done with your exercise/walk.  It's worth a try to me.  And one of these days.......

I was really moved by the Walt Whitman quote today as I have been reading " The Power Of Now " by Eckart Tolle.  He too puts forth the idea that we all have a knowingness inside ourselves and that you become aware of something that is true because it resonates from within you.  I have felt that way for a long time  ---  the greatest truths are not what we read or are told.....there are millions of "truths" and millions springing them forth.  It is the truths that resonate from within and that is the truth you can trust.

I hope you all have a fantastic day and I will come back to check later.

Michelle, I was thin all of my life....skinny actually.....and I have put on so much weight in the last 15 years (damn, that seems like along time).  I do think certain meds make it hard to lose weight, yet some people maintain their  weight onthe same pills I am on.   I also think that once you gain 15 pounds over, it REALLY gets hard.  I think the answer is exercise and lots of it.  It is hard for me to fit it into my day.  I am hoping that I can attack all the extra weight when I retire and I will have  so much time. A firend passed on this "starter" lesson from Bob Green:

    1. eat a good breakfst daily

    2. get more active

    3. do not eat after seven at night.

Simple enough, and a good start before doing more serious dieting and exercising.

    Good luck.

Good Snowy morning everyone - oh well now I guess it's afternoon, but I have my robe on so....

BBQ at Wendy's house - yay!! I'll bring the beer & potato salad :)

Blackjack -I haven't gotten out for my snow driving lessons yet.  It keeps snowing at weird times (overnight, or when DH is at work).  He ended up working 3:30am - 10am today for snow removal at the hospital for overtime...   so now he's napping on the couch.

Rita - CHEEEERS!!!! YAY!!!   And I am praying for good driving weather for you all making the road trip.

Time for me to get in the shower & get some things packaged to ship out (sold a couple of Buster's dog coats on Ebay - don't tell him, lol).

I guess I spoke to quickly about feeling better and needing a rest.  I had my first Herceptin only treatment yesterday morning.  By 4pm I was having chest pains.  I ignored them and went to a Christmas party - stupid, I know.  In the middle of the party the pain got worse so I called my onco.  He told me to go to the ER immediately.  I was amazed that the medical staff didn't waste any time getting to work on me.  All I had to do was give them my name and medication list.  Then it was all business.  It ends up that I have pleurisy and pneumonia.

I'm not sure if I will be able to come to lunch on Monday.  I'll be so bummed if I can't make it.  My husband said if I stay down for the rest of the weekend and am off the pain killers, I might be able to make the trip.

On another note, the nurses could not get blood out of my port.  They tried several times.  Has anyone else had problems with this?  I was so frustrated.  The more experienced nurse was really nice and tried to make it as comfortable as possible.  Lucky she got the IV in on her second try.  Even if they would have gotten the port to work, I would have needed an IV for a CT or something like that.  So, I guess it really didn't matter.

Michele - My herceptin treatment went well.

Blackjack - Let me know if there is an issue with me dropping out at the last minute.

    Wendy,

Am laughing at the Barbie pic-- because, of course, this is the number one thing on my daughter's Christmas list. Of course.  Thanks for posting.

WendyTY--I'm so sorry about the pneumonia/pleurisy...hope it abates a bit so you can get out.

Took my daughter to see her first play/musical today--- an kids' version of Aladdin at the Marriot Lincolnshire. She loved it, but was quite offput that the monkey from the movie was absent. We had a "Girls' Day Out" with my aunt, sister-in-law, her mom and Beth's cousin. We've decided it will become an annual Christmas tradition. Nice.

    See everyone Monday....

WendyTY-I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. I hope you can make it Monday too, as I was so happy to be able to finally meet you.

Susan- Thank you for your tips. They are simple enough that I feel that I can actually do those 3 steps, without stressing myself about it!  Although, it's 8:50 PM and I really want a piece of chocolate brownie that's in the kitchen, hmmmm, will power..... OK I won't have it!

Julieb-That is so nice to start a new Christmas tradition. Just think, your daughter will carry on the tradition when she's older, and have these wonderful "Girls' Day Out" memories. So very special!

Juliet- From what you've said before, with Buster doing #2 in the house because it's too cold, doesn't sound like he needs those coats anyway :)

Blackjack-Thanks again for organizing our lunch! It will be so nice to see you again.

To everyone else - stay warm and have a great evening.

Morning!  Blech.  Back to 3 on my deck.  Double Blech.

Blower worked great....we got about 3-4 inches so it was great to have it.  Did my neighbors driveway as well (the nice ones) and did the crazy neighbors sidewalk only.  I did remember last year when I didn't do their driveway fast enuf!!!!!!  An elephant never forgets, does she!

    WendyTY...how are you feeling today?

Mich101...that brownie still in kitchen?  Ya know...if you have it for breakfast, you have all day to work off the calories! Hmmm...wonder if there are any choc chip cookies left from the batch I made on Friday?????

Blackjack...how was snowmobiling?  Watch out for low hanging branches!

Laura...how was your dinner last night?

    Little C...how are things going?

Julieb...sounds like you had quite the day!  Very special to make these memories and make it an annual event...hopefully things like this will get carried on thru the generations.  Very nice indeed.

Kater...did you Mom agree to the appt?  Did you ever take her to see Dr. Bayer?

Did anyone watch the Heather Locklear movie on Lifetime last night?  DH wasn't interested so I gave up the FR TV so he could do the football thing and I made the mistake of curling up in bed to watch.  I saw the first hour when she was in Hawaii and then when she went back home to the snowy town where she lived...I fell asleep!  Wonder if she ended up with the cute guy...oh well!  Not that important in the great scheme of life I guess.

Everyone...have a wonderful, happy and safe day.  I am going to get started on wrapping today.  Unfortunately for me I guess I forgot to buy ribbon and tags at the sale last year so I will need a Walgreens run later this am..but that can wait until it warms up a bit...say to 10 or so.  Blech.
