Kater, I also received your e-mail.  I did not know Joanna.  I think she was at the Long Grove luncheon, though, and I was there.  Yes, please keep us posted.

I spent a long day in Peoria for my one year check up.  Had a mammo and sonogram, then saw my surgeon.  They are continuing to monitor a benign growth in my right breast.  It looks like it grew about 1mm since last year.  Not considered statistically significant.  I was a little worried because it took so long.  I kept thinking...please don't let it be bad news.

The girl that did my sonogram ended up being the sister in law of a friend of mine.  I had been praying for her since she was also diagnosed with bc last year.  We had a good laugh over the fact that we knew of each other but never met before.  Small world!

Mae - I had 12 Taxol treatment.  I tolerated them pretty well.

Buddy1 - You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Glad you get to go home for a couple of days.  It was since of your sister to bring your laptop.  Keep your chin up!

Donna - If I remember correctly, it started growing back shortly after chemo ended.  I think I had some peach fuzz by the December get together.  I should have taken pics along the way.  It wasn't something I really wanted to remember at the time.  Now I view it as my transformation into my new self.  I have about 5 months of growth at this point.  People don't look at me differently anymore (that I know of).  It's kind of like wearing a wig.  People see what they want to see or more accurately what they expect to see.  I've met several people I didn't know before they had cancer.  I didn't once think, that is a wig.  In my opinion, the suffering from hair loss lies with those of us that loose it and our loved ones.   Sorry I am rambling.  I must be starting to feel better.  I am getting overly analytical about absolutely everything.

I better get off the computer and go to bed.  Wishing you all a great weekend.

Morning!  Wasn't yesterday a glorious day?  That wind tho! Jeepers!  Cloudy here but 68....

Buddy...I am so sorry you are in the hospital.  And I am also sorry that my mind is not working this morning...they removed your right TE?  I am sure that is an abbreviation for something but I can't figure it out this early!  Hopefully you will get to go home today and no more bad news will be coming your way.  Let us know, ok?

    Joanna.....thoughts going out your way!

Laura....yep...just tried that.  And nope - can't do it!  and WHY IS THAT???????  Interesting.  OK girls - whoever has a doc appt this week, ask them!  Hey smerf - ask your husband!  He should know!

Rita ...did you have that top down yesterday?  I took the Z out for an hour...good thing my hair is back to being short or I wouldn't have been able to see a thing with that wind.

Interesting our take on the wigs - I liked mine.  Now, don't get me wrong.  I sure didn't like being bald.  In fact, I never asked if the chemo was going to "fix" me - I just asked about my hair falling out.  But the wigs I thought looked really good - or at least I thought so!  Maybe I was wrong!  My last chemo was 5/9/2007 and I wore my wig thru 12/1, but I did wear it on Christmas as it was still terribly short.  It grew very slowly, but I attribute that to Herceptin.  Once I finished that in January 2008, it took off!  Before BC, I never really thought about cancer as of course that was never going to happen to me but I would see people obviously going thru chemo and see them on TV and I always thought I would sooner take my chances than have to have chemo and watch my hair fall out.  Funny what we can do when we have to do it.  The worst thing about the hair for me, and I think Connie will agree with me...was NO bangs!  My forehead looked so big!  I hated that.  I would actually pull on them every night, thinking that would help! (no - it didn't)

Off to eat some breakfast!  Have a wonderful, warm if somewhat damp, day!

Good Mornings Gals.  ,,,I'm still here.  The Surgeon was just in to look at me.  He said all looks good.  My right Tissue Expander was terribly infected.  My breast was swollen double size and red, I also had a fever.  It all started so slow, My WBC was 500. As my Nulasta kicked in and my counts went up I was able to start rying to fight the infection .  Thats when it started to get bad. I am waiting for the Infectious Diseases Doctor and My General Doctor to release me.  I WANT TO GO HOME......I have been here sine Monday morning.  So, what do you girls think the odds are that maybe the Laundry fairy came to my house while I was gone and did all of mine.  NAH!!! Probably not huh. Well I have a new nick name anyway.  Just call me Lefty.  HUGS

Good morning everyone---have been MIA just a little bit.  So much going on and will continue yet for a couple of days.  Got word yesterday morning that my cousin had passed away.  I might have mentioned at some point that I had a cousin ( male ) that was diagnosed with cancer about the same time I was ---  his was esophageal.  Have another cousin ( female ) who had lung....and she is still here and doing ok.  She had rads to head and neck....as well.

Anyway....wake is tonight and funeral tomorrow.  Len and I had gone our separate ways out of high school, but we were fairly close growing up.  I am going to miss him, a lot.

Buddy....tissue expander.....I couldn't figure that either and don't know if I would have ( too busy with Laura's project ) had you not said.  Seems very dramatic and quick but I think that is how things can go when you have been putting cancer chemicals into your body.  I hope and pray you are back on your feet and doing well as quick as possible.  You will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers.

Donna....you are so sweet and such a great cheer-leader to Buddy/Lisa.....if it is possible to heal quickly I think she is going to be doing is just for you.  You take care of yourself too.....as the ye ole' chemo struggles continue.

WendyTY....You are are so funny. But it's true.....get cancer and you have numerous people dealing with your upper body parts, and every time you turn around having to expose yourself....I too have almost gotten to --- it's not a big deal anymore.  And I also like the analytical part.  I always like to delve deeper into the whys.

Well, a ton of stuff on the plate today....must order flowers and get some clothiers out and a help Maggie with a project this a.m. so I need to run.  Hopefully it is going to stay really pretty out with some pop-up shower possibilities here....ugg.  Don't like that but someone forgot to ask me.

    See ya'll later maybe.

    Hugs,

    Jackie

Donna - I had my last chemo on Feb. 6 (back in 2006) - dh inspected my bald head every morning... about a month later...on my Birthday - March 5... he noticed peach fuzz!

    ---------------------------------------------------

Yuck...I have 3 clogged glands in my eyelid - woke up yesterday with a very swollen lid! Was lucky to get an appt with an Opthamologist. He "expressed" the glands, gave me antibiotics and said hot compresses 4x a day. One of the possible culprits - changes in ESTROGEN! Arghhhhh... that dirty 8 letter word! lol But...Flax Seed oil in your diet can help prevent them.

Two of my gal pals are coming over - they both live in downtown chi-town... they like coming out here and going to all the garden centers. And lunch of course! lol A little embarassed....my eye is not a pretty sight! lol Too bad the sun isn't out...I could hide behind sunglasses! lol I KNOW... it's always something! lol

    Have a great day!

Buddy, I sure hope the laundry fairy came. I haven't stayed in a hospital overnight since I had babies. I truly understand how eager you are to go home. I sure hope they fix you up well.

I asked our special ed teacher about the right foot circles and the right hand six-drawring as she knows all this brain theory stuff. It has to do with the right brain-left brain connection. "Normal" people have trouble as they have a well-developed connection of the two sides of the brain. She said that some kids with learning disabilities can actually keep pattern. Now if any of you can do the two tasks together, do not jump to the conclusion you are not normal. You may just be very, very coordinated. Aren't you just thrilled it has nothing to do with BC?

WendyTY, I know how scary it is to wait and hear the news. It all sounds good.

It is raining so the planting idea is out! Take care.

Buddy/Lefty - I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through!  Thinking of you, sending prayers and good vibes.  I like that you crack jokes about stuff tho - like the Lefty comment.. that's something a lot of us here would do.  Humor is the best medicine.

Hi to everyone else :)    WendyK, I always notice that you are up early like me - we are fellow early birdies Laughing

I've got a couple of minor leads on jobs - if anything comes of it, i'll be sure to come here to celebrate.   And WendyK, I still owe u lunch ;)

My mom got some bad news - her mitral valve has a major leak, and she also has A-fib.   She had open heart surgery 5 years ago during which she almost died... and she is really upset at the prospect of another.  I'm taking her to Rush on Tuesday to meet with her Cardio & discuss the options.  She's 78 y.o. and very weak/sickly for several years now.  I just want her to have some good quality of life in her golden years, you know ??   Cry  I feel so bad for her.   Please throw a little prayer her way - I'd appreciate it so much.

take care everyone - Hugs, Juliet

Okay, Donna, you have me going back in time to remember hair.  I lost it in  a October.  Wore a wig to school that whole year (so until June).  By August (return to school) I was never wearing a wig.  My hair was very, very curly and very, very short.  I think someone said it here....I looked like a person who had her hair cut way too short. Once I finished up the school year, I NEVER wore the wig.  It made my head feel itchy and it is a bear in warm weather.

I am sorry to tell you that you have some time to go on this.  If you can wear turbins do it!  They are so pretty.  My DH never fretted about the baldness so I went bald within my house.  If the doorbell rang, however, I ignored it.  I did ask my darling neighbor who has three kids to explain the situation to her three kids as I would sit in the backyard without the thing.  They had experience with people with cancer and were were fantastic.  Do wear sunscreen.

    Taken September 24, 2006

Oh buddy....I am so glad you are doing better.  It's a bummer that you have to stay a couple more days but it won't be long and you'll be home.......and hey!  There's no place like home, even if there's dirty laundry waiting for us!  LOL  Hugs to you!  Sometimes this doesn't seem fair.

Laura, I love your hair progress pictures!  How cute!

Donna, I'm so glad that you and Lisa have become so close.  That's what this thread is all about.  Sometimes it just helps to have that person to whom you can vent, support, and compare "notes."  I hope your next treatment goes well for you, too.  You and buddy/Lisa will be done before you know it and I'm betting that your friendship will really blossom when you're both back to your "old selfs."   In the meantime, both of you just hang in there.

Susan....have you got those days counted yet?

Wendy, I haven't had my top down yet.  Everytime I've been out lately, I've had the back seat filled with yard sale valuables and I certainly wouldn't want any of my treasures to blow out!  LOL

Connie,I bet your kids are getting excited about the end of the school year.  Do you have a big family vacation planned for this summer or are you just spending lots of time up north?

Hi Jackie!  Did you work in your yard today?  I mowed and want to get my flowers out this next week.  I think it looks like rain is on the way for tomorrow so maybe I can get out and buy my annuals the first of the week.  I love putting the pots together even if I'm not the best at designing them.  We also need to get the deck power-washed and ready to go.  I really have spring fever.

Juliet, I have my fingers crossed that you'll get one of these jobs.  It's about time for your luck to change in the job-search program.  Keep hanging in there.  Something is bound to open up for you.

Ginny, I hope you're doing o.k. on the new chemo meds.  Enjoy your time in Florida.  I hope the wedding goes great.

    Blackjack.....how are you feeling???

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  This afternoon was gorgeous even if it was pretty windy!

Buddy1 - I have to admit, when I first read that you had your TE removed, I thought you meant your TOE!  LOL.  I couldn't figure out the connection, unless you also had gout!  Hang in there, hospital stays are the pits, but it sounds like they are doing a good job monitoring and managing your infection.

Laura - What a great pictorial of your hair-regrowth. I avoided pictures for a long time during that phase, so good for you!  You look gorgeous, btw.

Juliet- I'm sorry to hear about your mom.  I hope the Cardio has some good news (and options) for her.

Donna - I wore my wig every day to work, but when I was at home that sucker came off right away and I wore my head scarves/hats.  I also had a little soft "cap" that I slept in.  I did eventually get used to the wig while I was at work and I hardly noticed it.  When my hair starting coming back in though... yikes!  The itching drove me mad.  I stopped wearing the wig as soon as I had a decent amount of growth.  People complimented me on my really short and cute Pixie hairdo.  :)

Have a good day everyone.  It looks like the storms may have passed and the sun is trying to peek through.  I started the day with a terrible fight with my teenage daughter. *sigh*  My day can only go up, right?

    All you Illinois Ladies-

Haven't posted lots but have been reading what you all have been saying.  Believe me, it helps me figure out what to look for or ask the doctors about.  You all have been a sense of calm for me as I head into my surgery on tues.  I see how you may feel down sometimes, but you dust yourselves off and start fighting again.  It makes me know that its okay to feel bad once in awhile but I don't let myself feel that way for too long.  Just thought I'd let you know that you are all inspirations.

    Hi girls!

Just a quick post as I have a girlfriend coming over.

Buddy - so sorry to hear you are in the hospital.  I agree - they never let you sleep!!  Hope all is well.

Elfsong - your boys are adorable!  I like your wig too.

    Take care everyone!
