Elfsong, your boys are gorgeous! The school I teach at is about 30% Korean-American. I teach 8th grade and the parents do a big graduation party for the kids. They post all the baby pictures and all my Korean American kids are in traditional Korean dress in their baby pictures. The pictures of your boys remind me of my 8th graders as toddlers in their own pictures. Your wig is so natural and you are a beauty. Your DH is pretty darn good-looking as well.

I will keep that promise to visit you during the summer as soon as school is over. I would love to be with you. If you do go to New Mexico, know that it is such a great place to live. I know your heart is here, but it is so nice. Thank you for posting those pictures. I feel like I now know you better.

I went to a play last night with DH. It was "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". Any of you old enought to remember the movie with Maggie Smith?

Today we spent time looking for the perfect wooden swing for our grandchildren. We wanted a quaint wooden one you can hang from a tree limb. Found out "quaint" is not safe and so we are looking at a plastic one instead. Always learning!

I do think of you Buddy as you are still in the hospital. It will be so good to be home again. It is that old control thing about a hospital. You are one totally grown up woman, endured plenty, did the laundry for years, and know how best to keep the routine in place and now you cannot leave just of your own accord.  I so undertsand your frustration to get back to normal. Luv you!

Jo...sending good vibes and prayers your way for an uneventful and successful surgery on Tuesday.  I will be thinking about you.  Please check back in ASAP so we know how you're doing.  I am also glad that we've been of some help to you.  Hopefully that's what this thread is all about!  Come back often.

Elfsong...what cute little guys you have!  I LOVE the style of your wig.  It makes you look so cute!  Thanks for posting the pics of your family.

Rene..I hope your day finished much better than it started.  The sun usually perks me up.  When my son was a teenager, one of my friends gave me a sign that said, "Hire a teenager now while they still know everything!"  I always got a chuck out of it!!!   I wouldn't have traded him for anything but sometimes he did try my patience!  LOL

I spent the afternoon searching for perennials that were suited for the shade.  After visiting 3 nurseries I have some ideas.  Now I have to be clever enough to decide what to buy and put them together in an interesting design.  I had the landscapers come out and about fainted when they gave me an estimate of almost $12,000 to replant around my house!  I quickly decided that maybe I should study the situation, do some research and see what I can garble up!  LOL

Well, I need to find my recliner. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Morning All!  Warm today but rainy and I see 55 tomorrow.  Back to long pants!

Jo....good luck on Tuesday!  I'm glad we have been able to help in some way.  Sending a BIG HUG out your way and please do post when you are able to do so!

Elfsong....your family is truly beautiful, you included!  Susan's right too re: DH - now that one I would keep around and even move to NM for!  Thanks for posting the pics!

Lefty/Buddy - home you go today!  Thank goodness!  Can't wait for your descriptions of what the laundry fairies left behind! (well, at least they are clean!)

Rita...don't you just LOVE landscapers!  I had to have mine back out to replace the 8 spirea which I told him last fall were dying.  And now - I am looking at the burning bush from last June which has a total of ONE leaf in it!  I don't think I will be calling them back again.  I fought against liliacs on the N side of my deck as I didn't thinkone hour of sun every morning would do it.  And now fast-forward 4 years and they are dead, which I pointed out to him but alas, plants are only guarn. for one year!  I will dig those out myself and replant with some sort of shade-loving bushes myself.  $12,000????  Yikes.

Donna - you are so sweet to want to do Lefty's laundry!  If you ever feel the need, you have my address!  C'mon over!

Juliet - so sorry re: your Mom.  DH has A fib as does his sister and did his father.  Nasty disease and so hard to control.  BUT...the med he has been on since his 5 days in the hosp last fall has kept him in perfect rhythm (flecainide).  My SIL has a leaky valve as well, but last summer at the zero hour they decided NOT to replace it and she has been fine.  Wishing the best for your Mom - please let her know that she is in our thoughts, and you too!

Jackie...so sorry for your loss!  Hugs out to you....

Lots going on around here the last few days so I need to scoot...take care everyone!

Wendy, I did have one quote for as low as $6,000 but that included mainly hostas and hydrangeas which I can plant and select myself!  I was really shocked as I wanted to do a facelift on the landscaping here.  Oh well, I'll play at it a little bit here and there and see what I can do.  Although you can't copy their plans, they did give me some ideas about color and plants and my trip to the nurseries yesterday was pretty informative.  Since I have mainly shade, I'm limited on the flowering species but I did find a few interesting things that supposedly grow well in the shade or partial shade so I guess we'll just experiiment and see.  Did you and hubby take a Sunday road trip this weekend?

Well I need to get a few things done around here and I'm off to the library this morning.  Everyone have a good day.

Jo - I'm glad our post has helped you...I felt the same way when I first started coming here - back when I was diagnosed. Sometimes I wonder how I would have gotten through it all - without this place. BEST WISHES to you on Tuesday! We're here when you need us!

Rita - I know a little about gardening... and a good portion of mine is shade. Ferns do well. And there's several varieties. Astilbe and Coral Bells do well also. You should post a photo of your golf cart for all the newbies to see. I just love it - I'm sure they would get a kick out of it!

blackjack - Where have you been - we may need to send out the search light! We need our reservationist to plan our next get together.

Buddy - OMG - I was crying laughing at your comb story! OMG... too funny - You should keep that comb and frame it! Too funny - and...I'm like you... I LOVE TO LAUGH! It's my favorite thing to do!  I hope they're releasing you today - fingers are crossed!

Elf - Your photos are great! Your boys - ALL 3 - are soooo cute! I love your wig... it looks really cute! Thanks for posting them.

Jackie - Sorry about your cousin. Some people make a difference in our lives, even if they aren't close by. I'm curious...what is "Laura's project"?

PJuliet - Sorry about your Mom... thoughts are with you two!

Susan - Check out this site: http://www.cedarworks.com/accessories they have some great swings. They also make this FAB playhouse... lol

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Don't hate me for saying this... but...I am hoping it's really cold this week! LOL LOL LOL - BECAUSE... I bought a FAB coat on Saturday and I want to wear it atleast a few times before it gets too hot... It's gorgeous and it reminds me of my forest! Boiled wool with lots of embroidery and embelishments... the most expensive coat I own... but it is so unique... I could not resist! Will post a photo... my gal pals twisted my arm into buying it.

EVERYONE - have a great day!

Morning everyone.....thanks for all the hand-holding about my cousin Len.  He was a pretty neat guy and he will be missed.

Oh Laura....goodness gal.  Have a little patience ......  winter is coming, really it is.  No one has figured out how to stop it.  Just kidding....but in my neck of the woods it doesn't sound like our weather will get too drastic now.  I hope you will post a picture though.  It sounds so nice.  Well, I'll put up with a couple of chilly days, but that is all.

ElfSong....I thought the wig was fantastic and you looked so pretty in the pixie style cut.  I'd consider keeping your own hair looking like that when it comes back....but however you are comfortable.  Lots of people told me I should consider staying in my wig they liked it so well.  Not me.....I don't think ( unless I had some sort of major hair problem )  that I could ever choose a wig over natural hair.

Did I hear Donna was hiring out to do laundry......well the Amtrack stops in Centralia.  Yipee!!! No more laundry for me.  Maybe I better not hold my breath on that one.

I got hosta's for my shade last year.  We need to truck in dirt and fill and level the yard so they were meant for interim at the time.  Once I figure out what we are doing....I will probably take them up and figure out a scheme.....that is if we get to the yard this year.  That may easily turn into next year's project.

Well, I need to get going and will be checking back in later.

    Hugs,

    Jackie

Thank you for the warm welcome back. Fairy Donna you did a great job on the laundry.  I am so glad you are off tomorrow.  Maybe you can come back again thursday.  Only if its not too much trouble.  Ha ha.  I am so excited to be home.  I cant even describe.  Ive never been in that long before.  My surgery is Wed at 4:30.  Its suppose to be out patient unless its cancer and he has to open me all the way up.  Today the Hospitol called to give me directions, she said he has me as an admitt.  I am worried.  I hope this is just in case deal.  I was so hoping to come home.  Keep me in your thoughts please.  Maybe I'll get another comb out of it.  If I do its all yours Donna.  Thats the least I can do for all the laundry you did for me.  I love you gals.

Buddy...it is hard for me to realize that you are having this turn-around so soon and back in the hospital.  Good grief!  Is that in the afternoon?  Well, yes, it must be.  No one would do surgery at 4:30 in the morning.  DUH!  I think all of us will be so  anxious to hear from you or about you.  You need to rest, however, so we will hear from you soon enough.  You will most certainly be on my mind and in my prayers on that day.

Julie, your mom is so lucky to have such a dear like you.  I hope she is okay.

I received a message about  Breast Cancer Bullying.  OMG, what is that all about?  I believe there is a  news report tomorrow.  I hope it is not our discussion board.  I certainly know it is not our  thread.  I am just in awe that such a thing could ever occur.  When people are down on their luck do they get crazy enough to do that, or are these outsiders who get on the boards just to pull people down further?

I am excited about retirement.  I am not counting the days as I am superstitious about that as I want to live my days and not count them off.  This has actually been one of my happiest years, although the boys are getting testy.  My main problem right now is clearly testosterone in my eighth grade boys and not my own estrogen.  Maybe the word "testy" comes from testoserone.  I am only kidding;  I am sure not.  As the retiree, I have to read all the names off for graduation.  My school is very ethnic and so that is a challenge saying the names right.  Elfsong, I am so glad my Korean American kids do not have middles names!  That helps.

    Take care,

    Susan

Buddy...IT is the least I can do.!!! You know this has to be stressful for goin back on WED.. but, this has to be done. Try to center it all on being cysts and it is all good timing. WED is my treatment day and truly would be there .What hospital are you at? Another thing, try to get alot of water in you and rest.Being home is everything and know that they have to prepare for admit as a procedural thing. You have to take it slow and try not to overthink this all as it always turns out ok. Wish i could do something. .truly.

Susan...Glad you are goin to retire as it is time to enjoy and to live life. You certainly have alot of energy and zest to alot of good living!!!

Tommorrow starts my Decadron and WED is tx#2. We all need to get Buddy ready first.! Here for you and so is this group. The Cancer Bullying thing that Susan is talking on sounds just horrible!!!!Love , empathy and acceptance is what we all need and that is that.

I guess I'm behind times because I haven't heard anything about the Cancer Bullying.  Even the thought of it sickens me!

Buddy.... I imagine the Admit is just a precaution.  That way there is a place waiting for you if needed.  It's much easier to reassign a room than to locate one at the last minute.  Also, it's faster for insurance procedures.  We're thinking only positive thoughts here!  You're going in, having the procedure, coming home and resting in your favorite chair.  Hugs to you as I know this is so stressful and scary.  We will be with you in that surgery room tomorrow afternoon, holding your hand and sending you good vibes.

Donna, good luck to you tomorrow with treatment #2.

Susan, so glad you're enjoying this last year.  Each day is indeed a gift!

Laura, how's that coat feel?  LOL   Hey, all joking aside, it really does sound pretty neat!

I could use some sunshine today.  I'm like you, Jackie, this dreary weather affects my mood and I'm certainly not the most productive.  Still, the old saying goes:  April showers bring May flowers.  If that is the case, we should have lots of flowers this year!!!

I hope everyone is having a good day despite dodging the raindrops!  For me it's a bowling meeting for lunch, hopefully walking my 3 miles inside the Mall this time, and Yoga for breast cancer survivors tonight.

Hi Ladies, My name is Christi, I live in Huntley and before that Glendale Heights. How great to find a group from IL. I was just diagnosed with bc yesterday. I still need to have more tests to find out how far along it is and to figure out a treatment plan. I have a 2 cm tumor in my left breast and they are still looking at the right because it looks suspicious. No biopsy on the right yet. I have only been at this for 6 weeks (since I found the lump) so I am clueless as to the terminology and a bit overwhelmed. I have lupus so I am pretty used to doctors and meet my deductible by Feb each year. I am married with no children but we have 2 darling chocolate labs. I am on disability because of the lupus.

Morning All!  Brrrrrrr......43 and damp and windy!  Blech.  Yuck.

Christi73 ....welcome to the group that NOBODY wanted to join.  We will help you along the way with anything you need, we will be here 24/7.  This is the place to be!  I'm not far from you at all, just in South Elgin!  We have many different types of bc, had different tx's, some had rads, some had lumpectomies, some mastectomies, some reconstruction, some not.  Some of us are years out of treatment, some of us are where you are, or just a little bit ahead.  If you have questions, we have answers, or we'll get them for you!  You are at the "sucky" part right now, the waiting and the wondering and your mind is no doubt whirling!  It does get better when you find out what you are dealing with, tho!  My first advice to you is....bring along someone to all appts or bring a tape recorder so you don't miss anything and get copies of ALL your reports and put them in a 3-ring binder so you always have them at your fingertips.  And if you are not sleeping, ASK for something.  Anything else I can help with, or if you need a sit-down....just PM me.  I am a lazy-butt housewife and am usually available.  Hugs, honey!  You CAN do this and it WILL be okay.  Trust us!

Lefty....yep, you'll get another comb!  You lucky girl!  Seriously, I hope tomorrow goes well for you.  And I have to ask....you had a TOLIET FAIRY come to your house as well?  Where do I get one of those??????

Rita....You know, you should try your top on the car just to make sure the motor is ok.  What are you doing for shade-loving bushes?  I found Japonica and it looks like it might work for me...too cold still up here to buy anything but maybe tomorrow I'll take a ride to the nursery and see/talk to them.

Donna ....good luck at chemo tomorrow!  You are counting them down!  Yay!!!!  The white fuzzies I grew first ...I looked at them as "scouts" that my hair follicles were sending out, to see if the coast was clear and the hair could start growing!  I had the fuzzies during my last chemo and I had little sprouts of hair all over my head about 2 weeks after chemo was over.

Laura....I hope I didn't insult you on facebook!  My Mom always told me never to say "shut up" but you wanted cold weather back!!!!!!!  No, No, No.  BTW, if you haven't yet been out....it's def. cold enuf to wear that jacket today and I think the rain is gone.  How are your plugged up eyes?

Off to see if I can post those links.....stay warm everyone!

Christi...welcome to the Illinois Ladies thread.  You have come to the right place for support, comfort and information.  The ladies on this thread are awesome.  We all understand and there's always somebody available to help or answer questions.  Like Wendy, I think the initial few months are the worse.  The shock of the diagnosis and the decision making is mind-boggling and so confusing.  I used to think that if you had breast cancer, you had the same type of cancer as other breast cancer patients. I had no idea there were so many different types, stages, and grades.  You'll learn quickly and the more info you obtain, the better equipped you will be to make the decisions that need to be made.;  Wendy has given you excellent advice for the early days of your journey.  I am so glad my son accompanied me to my appointments because I often could not remember everything that they threw at me!  He even took notes so we could go over them later.  Perhaps I just listened to the parts that I wanted to hear!  I've been accused of having selective hearing long before bc!

Anyway, rest assured that we are here for you.  Post often and keep us informed.  Hugs to you!

    Hey you Illinois Ladies!

I just dropped by to say hello and let you know I think of you often, though I don't visit here much these days.  I'm doing perfectly fine, healthier than ever!  Always looking for the latest "healthy food", whether it be kelp roots or walnuts....... you know what I mean?!!  My dad was just diagnosed with kidney cancer, at age 84, but the prognosis looks pretty good for him with new drugs. Life goes on, and spring is finally here.

healthy spring energy to you all,

    Hi all,

I has been a few days since I have posted.  It takes me like an hour to read all your posts.  What busy people we are!  I was in St Louis Thursday and Friday.  Thursday with my fill and Friday with my uncle who had his good eye experience a detached retina.   So, he has had both eyes with detached retinas now.   I don't know what causes it.   He is having a hard time with it and hope his sight get restored.  Saturday I was in Mt Vernon for an awards ceremony.   I got a call last week that my daughter won 1st place for the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest for 1st grade.   Her story goes on to the national level now.  Wow.   We are so proud of her!    After we came home from that, we worked in the garden.   Then Sunday I went to Salem to sing.   I am so exhausted.   I think I might have over done it?

WendyK13 -  No I haven't heard the story about the swans.  I can almost picture this in my mind.  HAHA

Buddy1 - I hope you are feeling better.  Sorry you had to go through all of that.   Scary stuff!

DonnaDio -  I am thinking of you.  A good book you might consider reading is "I am not my Breast Cancer".   I cannot think of who wrote it but it is someone who has taken this journey too.    I hear it is really, really good.

Laura - You are too funny!   Pileated - you don't see those too often. HAHA   I too tried the foot thing and was amazed.  I will be trying this with all my friends.

WendyTy - So you have only one Foob?   They didn't offer any numbing stuff for me.  This last time wasn't too terrible.  I was like "wowza" with the results.

Christi73 - Welcome and I hope everything was caught early!   Keep us informed.

One last thing before I go - we have baby quail hatch yesterday.   They are so adorable.  I will try to take pictures and post.   I am not the best with the camera.   They are so very tiny.   My daughter wanted an incubator for Christmas.  This thing has been more fun than any toy.  She has hatched out chickens and quail already.

    Talk you all later!

Welcome Christi!  Sorry about your diagnosis.  My parents lived in Huntley for several years.  My mom is now in Schaumburg.  While it is closer, which is nice, my kids miss Deicke park - they loved that loooong slide!  Let us know how you are doing!

Good to hear from you Calypso!  Glad you are doing well.

Love the coat Laura!  Super cute!

I can't make the 20th.  I will be in Florida!  Yippee!

Sure nice to see the sun out!

Laura, the coat is sooooo pretty!  Welcome  Christi!  Keep coming in.  The women here are just lovely.

And Calypso, your words are so comforting.  Health is wealth and I am glad you are rich with health.  What a blessing.

Thanks to the women who pm'ed me and got me up on this sad topic.  The anchorman said it best and I am paraphrasing:  Whenever many people gather, there is the potential for some human malice to occur. I find that comforting.  99.9% of us are good people!

Rita, daily I am asked if I am sad to retire.  I am not sad.  I am glad and so excited for what lies ahead of me.

    Have a good day!

    Susan
