Evening all!
Hotbutt....CONGRATS MAX!!!!!! See what we can do when we all work together! We will need pics!
Jackie....you sound much happier now that the weather has changed! Me too! BUT...now they are saying only 68 tomorrow and it is sooooo windy! Craziest late spring/early summer I can remember. I know...I should just give up on my neighbors but now they are chopping firewood and I know they don't have a fireplace. I sure hope it's for a firepit...which of course they don't have either. What? Maybe a bonfire on the front lawn....
Donna....you look fab! And yep....itchy head = hair follicles waking up! Isn't it exciting! That cafe looks nice...
Blackjack....I can do the 9th and I love Pompeii! Glad you had such a nice time boating and I bet it was choppy indeed yesterday!
Budders...what's the latest on your slides? Have they been sent to Outer Mongolia?
Laura....how's your pain? Have you heard from Paula? Did you get the goat back yet?
JanClare...how's the foot? When do you get the "cast" off?
JulieChicago....I have an iPhone ?....I downloaded the latest version but I still can't post on this forum from the phone...what am I doing wrong???? I really do enjoy reading your little thoughts/comments every am on facebook...you are so funny! And those kids are so cute...really...where do they come up with these things!
Not much going on around here...got over to Starved Rock yesterday and then took the long-way home, thru Lake Shabbone State Park and YES!!!!! We stopped at Pokanoka's Cafe and had an ice cream cone on the patio on the lake. It was very nice but so windy that my hair kept ending up in the ice cream!
I hope you all have a great night...looks to be a great night for windows open and good sleeping!

I AM NOT FEELING SO GOOD FROM THE TAXATERE. IT WAS TUE. MY HEAD FEELS SO SWOLLEN I GOT TOO MUCH SUN YESTERDAY THAT DIDNT HELP. BONE PAIN NOT AS BAD THIS TREATMENT CANT HELP WONDER IF ITS FROM NOT GETTING THE NULASTA. LOVE YOU GALS. KEEP EVERYTHING CROSSED FOR ME.

Jo - You will decide for yourself when it's time for shave your head. I had fairly long hair when I started losing it and life was a bit easier (if sadder) once I shaved it off and scrubbed all those nubs away.
Tanyar - Sadly enough, I lost a friend to BC in June of '07 as well. She was initially diagnosed a few years before I was, and she was a great source of support for me after I was diagnosed. About a year after my dx, she had a recurrence, this time Inflammatory, and she lost her battle all too soon afterwards.
Regarding tissue expanders, I had them not once, but twice! I had a total of 3 different PS doctors before I finally was satisfied. I found that the TE's do take time to get used to, but eventually, I did and the discomfort became almost insignificant. Of course, the fills were always a little uncomfortable, but nothing that a little ibuprofen and a day or so didn't take care of.
Donna - I LOVE this quote: LIFE isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.. it;s about learning to dance in the rain!!! . I may have to steal that to use as a sig line.
Okay.. if one more person refers to Holtbolt as "HotButt" I will fall out of my chair from laughing so hard!
(Congrats on the win, btw!)

Congrats to Max and Mom for the win! Won't that be neat???
Jackie, Mary Jane and I went to Tuscola to shop today. We ate at the Amish Buffet and it was really good. We found plenty to purchase and we didn't get finished because I had to be back to bowl tonight. We wondered if you'd ever made it up to shop there.
Wendy, we took the convertible to KY this weekend and had the top down both going and coming. There really have been very few days that it's been down this year so it was nice to just cruise a long and let your troubles fly right out of the car! LOL
The baptism was nice and all went well. It was too short of a trip for me, though. I would have liked a few extra days with the kids. Wendy, Evan was wrapped in your blanket during the Baptism and it was only taken off when the official part of the ceremony took place. Thanks so much for it!
Hey Donna, I'm glad you're back! It's always fun to go but it always is nice to get back, too.
Blackjack.....glad the slots were nice to you! That means that you'll have to go back soon! LOL
Thinking about you Annette. How is it going?
Well, I'm tired so I'm searching out my recliner. I have all my tests tomorrow in Peoria so I have to get up early. As tired as I am, I really doubt that I'll sleep well tonight.
Rita

Well Rita, you side-stepped the Holtbold thingy rather nicely.....but it is something fall off the chair for....and laughing exercises the chest and that can't be a bad thing. For the record....we haven't gotten up to Tuscola yet.....if Mary doesn't get us a date soon....I'll just have to grab Denny on his day off and away we will go. I keep having to save up for it......and then it gets canceled. Hmmmm.
Once again the weather was so very nice here. I did a super wash on my car because it was awful --- a little dust on your car and 15 secs. of rain and your car looks like an old un-cared for **basic transportation** vehicle. Don't know why I'm such a fuss budget about it.....maybe because Dad always wanted a clean, clean, bright and shiny car. I learned to like it that way and am always a little bothered when I know it's dirty.
I like your quote really well too Rene'. Well, you know me....I like lots and lots of them.
Well, I need to go find my recliner too. See you all tomorrow.
Hugs, Jackie

Good luck and high five on the testing tomorrow, Rita. I'll be having my mammo tomorrow as well to follow-up on some previously noted calcifications. Normally, I'm on the edge of panic when I get any diagnostics done, but for some reason, I'm fairly calm this time. This time, I just want to get it over with and keep moving...

Hello everyone.....In Florida and enjoying it. Looks like a little rain today but it has been nice every other day. I finished herceptin two weeks ago, and am feeling a little better knowing I have no doctor appointments until September so I am good to go.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying their summer!

Good luck Rene and Rita..on testing!Rita.. you are always goin here, there and everywhere.. you are like the energizer bunny!!!GOOD for you!!Rene...the peace does come after we have gone thru as much as we have and another test, it just seems.. we are warriors and know that we are always are goin to be okay no matter what. You can take my sign motto !!! LOL. My DH is goin to hang it for me today.
Budders...You know, I am not sure how you are handling your treatments and dealing with the slides and all the crap with this situation in your reports etc. IS your sister goin with you for the treatments still? If you are to see your DR.today, I do hope that this transferring of slides and all happens as you need to focus on your treatments and getting that done.Hope you are feeling better today, it is enough for all that you are goin thru.
Hi EF..good to see you too!!!! Glad BTW, you are not moving!!!
Tanyar.. So sorry about your friend.. how fragile life is and moreso in this journey. Thoughts and prayers goin your way!
Jackie.. Just love your daily thoughts and always wisdom in all that you post!!!
Wendy...Is the laundry done and all ironed.. getting complaints on this not being done on a more timely basis.. ok?!OH is my head ITCHY!! Now i can be called ITCHY BITCHY>..lolol.
Ok. be well all.. JO , Budders on your Tx's AND those with mammo's and tests....

Saw the onc yesterday. Echocardiogram results were good. Still at 72. Colonoscopy was fine. Today is my cat scan that they will use along with my mri to do the mapping for my rads which start the last week of July. I had to ask the onc yesterday about when we were going to discuss the pills I would be taking and he says "oh, you were estrogen positive/" I said yes and then he starts taking about tamoxifin. I said I thought for postmenopausal we would be taking about and AI. He said well those do have better results. Why would we talk about anything else? He said I need a bone density test before he would talk any more about an AI, I have the bone density test on July 14 and then see him again on July 28 when I have herceptin. Other than all these dr's appts I have been working and going to my granddaughters softball games. They were in a tournament this weekend thru today at Mansfield. Thank goodness the weather has been nice. We even needed jackets last night. This week will be nice golfing weather. Annette

Thank you Donna. Yes, My Sis is still going with me. I asked her to come with to my appointment today. She will back me up. I need to be more aggressive, she will help push me. I am so excited about finally getting this done. I am leaving now, have to go to Joliet, curious about the WBC since no shot this week. I will check in as soon as I get home and let you all know what the Doc says.

Hello again. Bet you all thought I dropped off the face of the earth. I have been reading the posts and enjoying them all. I had my surgery (lumpectomy and sentinel node) on 6/16. I am IDC stage II Grade 3 triple negative no lymph nodes involved. I start chemo on 7/6. Then radiation. I had to change my doctor group. I was going to BS in Glen Ellyn and oncologists would have been 40 miles away. Now I am 10 miles away so it should be easier. Thank you for your support on this journey. Christi

Hi everyone....lovely, lovely morning here...almost cool. Dh has the day off but he will not be underfoot today. I have a lot to do but he will mainly be working in the garage. I have some more siding to do, my laundry ( how did that laundry fairly manage to miss me ?????? ) hair, and anything that jumps out at me along the way.
I go early tomorrow for a blood draw in Mt. Vernon. I am not sure why as no one mentioned it to me before....find out why when I get there, I guess. Then back here to do ?? whatever, and then on to the Moose...far west side of town.
Donna...hope you come away with some REAL answers today. Your Oncologist may have positive feelings about your case but it is also his job to communicate with you in such a way that you are happy and have confidence about the direction you have chosen. I did not get a whole lot of choices since my care came through the V.A. but they chose a very top-notch surgeon for me ( female Professor from Southern Illinois University/Carbondale ) and Donna from her office who was the Avon Patient Navigator ( still is ) helped me get through all the ends and outs and coached me thru chemo choices etc. I look back and feel that I got ( over-all ) very good care though more would have been desirable from chemo nurses in the V.A. oncology unit.
Annette....yea for the good tests results. Do you think Dr's just automatically say Tamoxifen because I think for a long time that was about all there was?? I thought it could be in my future but turned out to be Arimidex instead. Just glad to have something.
Hope you all have a great day as productive as you want it. I'll be checking back later.
Hugs, Jackie

Morning girls! Cloudy and cool...68 on my deck. Good sleeping weather tho!
Annette....surprised that your onc said what he did about tam. It's a good thing we are all so well-informed! I didn't get the bone density testing first as most of you did. My onc does it at the 2yr point, which will be for me this fall. Everybody's different.
Rita...good luck on the testing. I have my bil mamm in Sept and then a bone desity...I also see the onc and surgeon then. I don't like September!
Donna...sorry, but the laundry fairy is on vacay with HensonChi in Florida!
HensonChi....good to be done with tx's, isn't it! Hooray for you! Whereabouts in FL are you?
Ginny....how are you feeling these days? I think about you every day and are hoping you are out and about, having a great summer.
Rene....fingers crossed for you too!
Jackie....Good luck on the blood draw....what exactly are they looking at, or is it just a routine stick??? And you so do not seem to mind your DH around, so can I send you mine???? I got home from the gym this am to no less than 6 sticky notes, announcing to me that our alarm box was beeping, which I know means a low battery somewhere. I had to go back out to get the batteries and then call the alarm co to ignore the signals...he goes out cuz he doesn't like the little beeping noise (it's very quiet). So halfway thru I realize that I need double the batteries so I call him...no answer on his cell. So I race back to the store to get more batts....alarm still quietly beeping, I am running around with the ladder as I only have an hour before they put me back on-line and he walks in and says...in the middle of all this craziness....at 10:20am mind you and says.....wait for it....."so, what's for lunch?" ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Christi.....chemo, tho nothing I wanted to do....is doable. For most of us, it was the hair loss that made us the "sickest". That, and the waiting for everything to start, so we could finish and have our hair back. I think we all pretty much thought about that more than anything. Donna and Buddy are a bit ahead of you so maybe PM them any personal stuff you may not want to "chat" about. I am sooo glad that you are going closer for your txs. It's going to make a huge difference. The offer is still open if you would like to get together for lunch or something. There is a dinner-time meeting on the 9th but I assume you wouldn't want to commit to that as you really have no idea how you will be feeling after chemo. What type are you having? So glad for the neg nodes....something to be happy about in this whole mess.
Hotbutt....where was your avatar taken? Looks so pretty and peaceful there....
Time to check the fridge to see about lunch for Mr HungryPants And for me too! I woke up to quiet beeping (different beeping than the alarm) and I thought it was the coffee pot, telling me it was done brewing. So I went downstairs, thinking it was really cloudy and dark out...only to find out it was 4am, and the beeping must have been a truck backing up! So...I never got around to breakfast and dinner was so long ago! Hope everyone has the best day they can possibly have!

I GOT SOME ANSWERS. TURNS OUT MY PATHOLOGIST CALLED SEVERAL OF MY DOCTORS HAVING A FIT BECAUSE I WANTED A SECOND OPINION. HE WAS FURIOUS. HE FEELS HE CAN MAKE NO MISTAKES AND WAS OUTRAGED. HE HAS MOST EVERYONE FEARING HIM. HE HAS LOTS OF PULL AND A TERRIBLE TEMPER. THIS IS WHY IT HAS TAKEN SO LONG ME TO GET THROUGH. MY PCP APPROVED IT AND I WENT TO THE HOSPITOL AND SIGNED OFF MY MEDICAL RECORDS TO HAVE IT SENT OUT TO UNV. OF CHICAGO. IT IS LEAVING TODAY. I WAS TOLD IT WILL BE 2 WEEKS. THE RESULTS WILL GO TO MY ONC. TEN HE CAN GIVE TO ME. I JUST CANT BELIEVE THIS PATHOLOGIST IS SO EGOTISCAL, I AM SURE HE WOULD WANT A SECOND IF IT WERE HIM. ITS NOT LIKE HE WORKS AT A UNIVERSITY. HE WORKS AT A LITTLE COMMUNITY HOSPITOL. I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. THANKS FOR LISTENING.

GO Girl, now you can begin to rest easier knowing that you will get your second opinion and answers you deserve. I am happy for you. The pathologist probably knows that he should have taken better care of things.
We leave Saturday for a 6 day family bondage vacation in New Buffalo, MI. The DD, SIL,DH and two granddaughters will be spending quality time together. We are excited to be getting away. Nothing special planned except time on the beach and fun. Sometimes getting ready for vacation seems more work than its worth but I am sure it will be great once we are there.
Parents anniversary event was great. 48 people came out. We had tons of food left. I always over plan but no one went home hungry and I was able to pawn 1 gal of leftover twice baked potato salad off on my friend here. I was exhausted and slept and slept yesterday.
Off to finish the laundry. No fairies here, dang it!
Hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful weather after the heat last week.

I have a tongue in cheek quote by W.C. Fields. Not inspirational but may bring a smile. "The best cure for insomnia is a good night's sleep."
Okay, I am not that busy but I think Thursday nights are busy for me. I have a concert on that Thursday Lunch Bunch with old friends at the Botanic Garden. I could have done lunch that day, but I know this is for the working girls. I am waiting to see if the Botanic Garden concert is a go as it was planned with friends rather loosely when we all got together last time. If not, I am on!
Buddy, now things are cooking. You are better off away from that man as most doctors welcome second opinions, or at least politely put up with them. Hope you are feeling better.
Tanya, the family trip sounds fun. If the weather is great the fam will get along just fine. Bring some board games as they can be fun. I just played one with the old friends I mentioned above called "Catch Phrase" and it so much fun!
Thinking of you Rita as you go through the tests.I can tell you are more relaxed with each "passage" of tests. Wow! I have known you and Wendy and Laura and a few others for a few years now. Could that be possible. I still have remnants of chemo brain, so it may be not possible. "Catch Phrase" is good for that too, although you may want to start by playing alone before joing a team.
Take care,
Susan

Quick question..when the hair grows back.. does it come in as one length?? Or all over the place and look like a mad scientist???!!!
0 -
Hi Girls! Checking in... been very busy today. Although... I would have loved to have soaked up some Vit D... but NOT... the weather was so crappy - cloudy, cold...ugly! lol But its days like today when I do all the INSIDE house stuff... vacuuming, dusting, etc. ALL THE FUN STUFF! NOT! And... my friend stopped by while she was in from WI... had dinner together... it was fun.
Rita - Hoping all went well... Irene - Hoping all went well with you too today!
Annette - If you are newly post meno... you can opt for the Tamoxifen. And then... after five years, you would be able to continue with an AI... That's what I chose to do... although I am looking into alternative/natural replacements for the Tamoxifen. I'm glad everything else turned out okay.
Christi - Best wishes to you on the 6th... gawd... I remember my first chemo... it may be scary, but keep in mind we are all here to help you through it. Hang in there!
Budder - Way to go... let us know the path results.
Tanya - Have a safe, fun and happy trip!
Donna - My hair came back very evenly dispersed on my scalp! lol lol lol Here's a photo of one month's worth of new hair growth (it reminded me of my childhood days... when my brothers would get their hair cut like this for the summers):
But... after about 3 months... it was kind of wild... it was pointing in all directions! lol BUT... lots of Mousse and gel... and at that point, you won't care what direction it's going in... you will be so happy to just have hair again! Hang in there, Donna!

Laura your picture is so beautiful.
Good morning friends. We are getting a box of day old babychicks today. They come in the mail. So I need to stay by the phone, for the Post Office to call. They are so cute.
I am still pumped up about yesterday. My Doc tryed to get a more rare type of cancer out for a second for a man one time, but this pathologist refused said he makes no mistakes blah blah so it never went out. My onc told me from now on go to administration. Somthing has got to be done about this man. I hope I never have to have path work here again. Because I have HMO and this is where I must go. But at least now I am wiser. I know to fight and I can get a second. opinion.
Zap I love catch phrase too.
Tanyar. That sounds like so much fun. Enjoy.
Illinoislady Good luck with your blood work today.
Nana Glad your test were good. Can you tell me what is AL.
Donna Good morning.
Henson We could use a little Florida sunshine this way
Have a glorious day.

Morning All! Brrrrr...chilly night last night, it was 57 on the deck at 5:30am. Cloudy and yucky...sun returns tomorrow. Yay!
Budders.....Tell that doctor of yours that the last time you checked, he was NOT God. How dare he! I just hope that everything is fine with your slides, tho.
Tanyar....a family "bondage" week????? I am assuming that you meant "bonding"...but then again, spending a WHOLE week with my family would be "bondage" for sure!
Laura.....Hi George!
Donna....my hair came back very uneven and the color was a mix of grey and brown - but in stripes! It was horrible! And it came out very curly and wavy but as the length grew out, so did the waves and curls. Stick straight now, just like before. And yes, I did color it at home even while it was short - just used Nice N Easy. Once it grew out some, I got it all evened out, prof. colored and then did the mousse/gel thing. This time next year you will have more than a few trims behind you and will be back to complaining about your hair. Really. I said I would never do that but I remember the first time I thought about how much I didn't like my hair, I laughed out loud. Back to normal! You know, hate our hair, hate our thighs!
Christi....can we help out on Monday in any way? I have a doc appt Monday am, but it's only for a blood draw at 8am. If you would like some company for your first chemo, just PM me! Or if you need anything else....
Susan....yes, the years do fly by don't they! Your trip to the Botanic Gardens sounds nice, but I am hoping that it gets canceled and you get to come to dinner! I know....mean and selfish of me but I only got to meet you that one time, just for a little bit!
Rita.....I am touched that they used the afghan at the christening. It made me really happy to know that Evan was being "hugged" my someone who adores his Granny and is so thankful to be able to share her with him.
Time to get off my butt....no gym for me as I have a hair appt. Just a little root touch-up, no highlights. My hair is soooo light from the sun I'm not sure I even consider myself a brunette anymore! But I kinda like it. They always say....blondes have more fun!
Have a wonderful day...hope those of you still in tx and doing well as can be. Hugs!

Hi ladies -
I hope everyone is having a good week.
Glad to hear that things are moving for you Buddy. How infuriating! You should not have to go through that!
Holtbolt - I was so happy to read that Max won! I am so glad I voted. What great memories!
Heading down your direction this weekend, Rita. Our family owns a farm in Charleston. My sister is the trustee and she is coming up from Texas for the weekend. So, we are all headed down there for some fun.
Laura - how are you feeling? I hope the pain is better.
Busy, busy summer. It is just flying by. I hope everyone is feeling good. I hope to make dinner next week.
Take care!

Good morning everyone. It is going to be another fantastic day ( can never have too many of those ) and I will likely finish my siding today. Looking forward to the week-end and the 4th. I am off on Friday...would rather work but the boss liked the idea of giving everyone a three day week-end. So... Due to get some rain but after all these cooler days and wonderful breezes it is hard to let it bother.
Hope you are all going to have a really good day. I'll be checking back in later. See you then.

Jackie - I'm so curious!...are you siding your house? If so... OMG... what a project. Is it aluminum, cedar...?

buddy - It is an Ai not L and it stands for aromastase inhibitor - which are the pills that er+ and pr+ patients take for 5 years to prevent recurrence. There are 3 choices. arimidex, femara or aromasin. These are only given if you are post menopausal. Tamoxifin is given to premenopause. The AI have a better result but can stop your absorbtion of calcium so that is why they do the bone density test. They want to make sure bones are in good shape before your start. They don't want to give to someone with signs of osteoporosis. Tamoxifin and AI's are all considered hormonal therapy . Did your Dr. give you any books on BC, between my onc and surgeon I got several books on bc and different therapies. They describe all of these therapys in there. I hope this is some help to you. Annette
