Hi Girls! Busy getting things ready for our guests. Hope you're all having a nice weekend. I hate to complain... but this weather SUCKS! And it's going to continue to suck ALL FRICKIN WEEK. I had lots of outdoor "stuff" planned for this week! Yikes... gotta re-write the plan book!

SUSAN and BJ - Do you want to meet at a central location... maybe the Des Plaines oasis (Kennedy Xpress Way)... and then go in one car? And anyone else could meet us there too. Or if there's a better place - no problem! My suv holds 6 passengers. I'll check to see if JanC wants to join us.

    Hi ladies,
Can someone pm me if I forget to post on here?  Seriously, even though I am excited to meet everyone and won't stop  talking about it, my memory is LOUSY lately!!!  Perhaps if I remember to make this a "favorite" topic.....

Whoopsiedoodles......You can also go up to the top of this page.....somewhere up there will be the word favorites or bookmarks, and if you hit that and follow the ( quite easy ) instructions given, it will put this thread in  a list for you.  When you want to come here just open your Internet....go up top and hit whichever word.....favorites or bookmarks......and your list will show up.....then just point and click....and here we will be.

In taking the BRCA TEST.. my results from Myraid Labs were  Significant indifference VARIANT. Not enough research on this result BUT have no deltirious (impt term) or mutation. I had to call on this for clarification as i am not sure if my ovaries had to be looked at next.AT this point, i am not as concerned as they said 90% of these kind of results are benign. However, if i had ovarian cancer anywhere in the family line it would be pertinent for the ovary removal to be considered. GOOD test and think it is impt to know if you have a mutation in any one of the BRCA's. Moreso for those who have daughters!!!

Getting ready to go to Michgan..two different areas and leave in our RV WED... IF weather cooperates!!

Just learned that my hot flashes  from Chemo!!!Calling it Chemopause!!!! Does get better in time is what i am told?!

Jo , Christi and any one else... be well and it is all goin to be over and when it is.. you will be there for others. Just hang tough and know you are not alone.

Be well all... and stay healthy..

Afternoon everyone.  It is looking so very nice outside but I'm in my computer room tossing out old bank stmts....from 98' if you can believe that.  Wow !!!!  The amt. of paper goods that just sits and sits....until somebody finally thinks...enough of this.  Somewhere ( I'm sure it's on the Internet ) there is a place that tells you exactly what you need to keep and exactly how long.  l think I need another copy of that.  Yikes !!!  How time flies when your not having fun and you find all this un-needed stuff.

Hope you are having a satisfying day.  We are still fairly cool and I think no humidity either so the best of both worlds.  Can't recall the last time the air kicked on.  I think it has been two or three days at least.

Well, my short break is over.  I'll be checking in after a while.

    See you then.

    Jackie

Donna we were posting at the same time---Yay Donna.  Very happy news to hear.  Great to have such positive confirmation that you were going in the right direction all along with your txs.  This hopefully will also allow you to feel some good confidence too.......even if we never know for sure....the test results would make me feel as though I had a head start on staying healthy.  What a great way to start your R & R.   Enjoy....to the fullest.

I think we may be having rain later.  Bi-state area mentioned several times.  Also think from what it looked on map that Chicago will have storms.   Cousin coming today and I will help her look up some things on the Internet.  Getting a computer is on her list I think.....

Lots to do today so I'll be checking in off and on as I go along.  Hope you all have  good day.

    Hi:

Black Jack and Laura and whoops.....

I have an appointment downtown on Monday morning  so I will meet you on the pier for lunch.  I want to tutor at that mission we went to and I need to get my stuff in order.  It seemed a good way to accomplish more on one day! Let me know what time!

I want to know where Buddy is.  She was a regular and she is now laying low.  Buddy, where are you?

I am having the best summer.  I am meeting up with old friends and just having so much fun.  I hope that is true for most.  For those in treatment, I know this is not a great summer.  I hope that you can realize that things do pass, as they have for me, and this is in future...lots and lots of good times!

    Hi everyone,

Just popping in to say hello. Crazy busy. Just caught up- skimmed- over 4 pages. Eek! Welcome to all the newcomers!

But had to say something regarding TNs-- re- Jackie's note that her friend's doctor basically gave her a "not if, but when" scenario. And 10 years.  I really contest that.  I  personally know several women who are TN who have not had reoccurences in 10 years, are still going strong cancer free and there must be many more. That's really an awful blanket statement to make. I felt compelled to state that for anyone who might be lurking.   Of course-- here I am- TN- and mine did come back- BUT as a new primary.  Not as a reoccurence or spread.  And I'm almost at the 10 year mark from the first one.  One thing also worth mentioning- yes, while TN cancer tend to be more aggressive and fast growing, they also respond particularly well to today's newer therapies.

Will drop in soon again! Miss you all.

    Hi ladies -

It was a cool weekend on the lake but by Monday it had warmed up pretty nicely.  I wore my coat on the boat all weekend, but the kids didn't seem to care.  We got a new tube this year and they are loving it.  I have no idea how they can go in that water when it's so cold out!

Tanya - we have been to the airzoo - it is a pretty cool place.  I'll have to check out that dairy farm - never heard of it.

Laura - have fun with those kids.  You are living my life this week!

Donna - the hot flashes do get better.  Mine have decreased in intensity and they do not occur as often.  I still get them several times a day though.  I am on Tamoxifen so maybe yours will go away even quicker.

Heading out to New Mexico on Friday for what has turned out to be our annual camping trip.  We really only planned to go one year and something keeps sending us back.  Looking forward to some relaxation!  Checked the weather and it is similar to hear high of 75-80 with a chance of rain.  I'm sure it will be pleasant but I was really looking forward to some heat!

    Take care!

Julie:  Glad that you did put that information about tn's on here.  I too thought it was almost a judgmental statement when made and still feel that no one knows about recurrences --- heck, we can't even predict who will get cancer.  I have mentioned before and I will say it once more....we get what we get and much of it will never fit any rhyme or reason that will come up or can be made up.  Though I doubt anyone here missed it when I said it before....I always use my Dad as a reference point......he was pretty much the epitome of doing everything backwards.  A bit of a Type A to some degree.  But....point is, he smoked a minimum of two packs of cigarettes a day, ate tons of candy, drank lots of cokes, adored fried foods and white ( flour ) fried chicken gravy and though he was a hard worker....he worked very fast and efficiently....his work always got rave reviews.....but if you went over to his house you would probably find him sitting on his keister in front of the t.v.  He made sure most of his time was leisure. I adored my dad ( Mom just as much too ) but he passed away at the age of 83 from Parkinson's ---- not from any of the things you might have thought....or anything any Dr. ever told him.

So Julie, and everyone else..  I should have made it more clear that I did not agree with that statement/pronouncement at all.  I also should tell you that Wendy S. sent me an email by i-pod as she found it just as reprehensible.  No one should be putting any idea out in the universe that is so negative to anyone.  Generally no one is has a psychic gift so predictions regarding one's health 10 years from now is ridiculous.

Connie...maybe ( if the weather currents around where you are going are as hard to read as they are here ) the heat will make it.  My ex and his wife live in Las Crueces, NM and she says it is hot and muggy there.   Here's hoping for you.

I am so relieved Julie stepped up on the TN  and prognosis.  I know I read  on a different thread that women/men who present with Paget's Disease had a far poorer prognosis than those diagnosed  without.  The good news is that less than 5% of women with BC present with Pagets.  The bad news  was I was in that less than 5%!  Yow wee! I was one lonely girl that day. I later was able to show that in fact that information was not correct and WE (ladies or men  with pagets) have the same prognosis as any other person with our staging, node involvement, etc.

We are heading for the Tuesday concert at the Botanic Gardens but we may be rained out.

Rita, just got pension statement  from TRS.  Oh man, it feels funny to get money and not be working.  Maybe all those years held more than just the love of teaching.  Blackjack, I hope those meetings are over.  Teachers and school nurses need to be outdoors during summer!

Awww Susan....glad to hear you are having a FUN summer!!!You deserve it and retirement will serve you well!!!

Where is Buddy...Jackie..is right.. not in sight at all? Maybe I will call her after I get back from vacation.

Connie.. I JUST got some supplement named Femal.. at the Health food store.. does nothing in adding hormones or anything unsafe..but it is designed for the menopausal side effects as in hot flashes!!!Trying something as I AM  soooo full of anxiety and sleeplessness. I do hope it gets better as you say and others have too.

This aftermath of chemo is still on me and am lost and very anxiety ridden.I am busy with my daily chores and such, but something is off in me and just feel very off still and cannot put it into words. It will be two months August 10th from last chemo tx.Who knew the body would have so much havoc yet to recover from.. i was not prepared for this.Chemo pause or whatever it is.I was not like this before chemo or the surgery!!! Trying to be patient and goin away may be just what i need to chill a little and settle down!!!!

Jo and Christi...any one else i am forgetting???.... know you are close to my thoughts and in my prayers.

BTW.. got some bits and pieces of the postings with the 10 year mark diagnosis. When i was told by my Onocologist i needed chemo.. it was statisitics based on a 10 year mark IF any of the cancer cells got into my body prior to surgery. Just wanted to throw that out there!

Will keep in touch and know you are all awesome!!!

    hugs'

    Hello Ladies!

Back from California and I had a fabulous time!   Enjoyed 4 days in Sonoma with my Jane Austen group, then several days in San Francisco.

I finally feel like my occipital neuralgia/ concussion is over with- YAY!!   I've been headache and dizziness free for 3 days now.  It was  5 weeks of pain and worry.  Whew, as you can imagine, I kept thinking, "what if this isn't from the concussion, what if it's mets?...."- but it's so much better- which would not happen with mets..  Smile

Big hugs to all. I'll try to catch up with what is happening, but for now I'm just hoping everyone is doing okay- especially our sisters in treatment.

Did want to say that as another who is considered TN, I was very taken aback by that's doctor's blanket statement.   Both my gs and onc told me that they had many patients who were TN and had been NED for over a decade.

About hot flashes- I'm afraid to say that after 2.5 years mine have not gotten any better.  Considering I was already in menopause before the chemo, and I had my ovaries out as well, I really thought the hot flashes would recede, but they just don't seem to stop.  yuck.

Well, I'm hoping that some of you are planning on coming to the get-together at my house on Saturday August 1st.  I need some serious gab fest!  I know I don't post too much- two jobs and I'm not that good at writing a lot- but I love to get together and talk.  It makes such a difference!

    Hope to be back tomorrow!

Well Susan, now you are officially retired after that first pension check comes in!  YEA for you!

JanClare....lovely picture.  What an awsome structure!  I've never seen it.  We didn't get that far west so I'm envious!  Hope you're having a wonderful time!

I am also worried about Buddy.  It's not like her to be away from the boards for such a long time.  Does anybody know what's up there?

Sorry to make this a hit and run, but wondering if any of our western suburb ladies can help me.  A friend of mine has her mother (who is from India) visiting relatives in Naperville, IL and the mother has found a lump.  She is looking for a doctor or program in the area that she can send her mother to- anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

Jan...I have a friend in that area and she used a hospital/cancer center right in Naperville I think.  She herself lives in a smaller suburb somewhere...at least if memory serves.  Your friend could probably get on the computer and determine what is closest to her.  I know my friend was very satisfied....but I only recall most of this in passing....didn't think I'd ever need the info.

Thanks so much, Jackie- it's probably the Breast Care Center at Edward's Hospital, I'm sure.  (can't be that many cancer care centers in Naperville)  But I also told her I would ask here, in case someone knows anybody specific.  One of those, "I'll do what I can" to help ease her mind.  Smile

I'M SENDING OUT THE SEARCH LIGHT FOR BUDDER and MAMAQ and all the girls we haven't heard from lately:

blackjack - I'm here - but busy entertaining! Wow... your friend has been through a lot in a short time. So sorry for her.

JanC - Nice photo! Glad you had such a nice time!

Donna - Try to be patient... your old life is not going to just snap back into place. BUT IT WILL... just not right away. Some girls experience post traumatic stress syndrome. I did... it was not pleasant, but it does go away in time. Try to do what you're doing... keeping up with daily chores, etc. But also remember that you have been through he**... and the body and the mind has to recooperate. Best wishes to you... try to come to our next get-together. HONESTLY - getting together with these girls was one of the best things to help me get through it. Just sitting together and sharing our stories was the most therapeutic few hours. Our next get-together is August 1st... PM JanC for info... Hang in there!  We're here for you 24/7!

Connie - Have a wonderful time in New Mexico!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi girls! I am busy entertaining my cousin and her 3 AWESOME little ones! They are so polite and so intelligent and so creative! We are having lots of fun... but MAN OH MAN am I exhausted... 7 hours at the beach yesterday... up until midnight... taught the little ones the art of mosaics today, went to Benihana Japanese rest... I am so tired I COULD CRY! lol lol lol Hot bath real soon... then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

    Hi ladies!

I have tentative plans to meet up with a friend from HS on Monday (am).  If you guys are okay with her joining the group (I'm sure she would be cool with it-she is a 3x cancer survivor going through stage IV lung mets right now.  She is happy to vent to those of us who "get it"), I am okay with it.

Here's the deal-can we get a final date and time set by sometime tomorrow? I need to tell the lady doing the study that we need to switch times on whatever day we will meet so we don't have to work around it.

I'm totally looking forward to it!

Does anyone else watch "So You Think You Can Dance?"

My daughter has danced her whole life, so it's regular viewing for us.  Tonight, one of the performances was choreographed to bring attention to Breast Cancer.  It was absolutely beautiful, and left the audience and all the judges in tears.  Of course, I sobbed from the first note.  I love the song they chose.

A warning before you view this.  It's not easy to watch.  I'm not kidding when I say I sobbed.  But I love that they used dance to illustrate the intense emotions involved with this journey, and to raise awareness of how it touches us all.

Jan Clare - I go to Edward Cancer center in Naperville.  Edward Hospital is a really good hospital.  If she is looking for a surgeon, send her to Dr. Louis Montana.  He is the best!  He is in the medical offices on Spaulding Dr. attached to Edward - DuPage Surgical Consultants.  My oncologist is Dr. Joseph Kash - He is a very nice man and I feel in good hands, but he is a bit reserved.  Let me know if you need any further info.

    Thanks so much!
