Illinois ladies facing bc

Donna - you look great. It took me about 5 months before I took off the wig and my hair looked like yours. Yours is growing fast! Awesome!
Jo - sorry about the boy that passed. What a tragedy. I don't blame your son for being angry but it is doubly difficult because you want to reassure him about you.
Susan - glad you got some results. I hope the new med works for SIL.
Navy - Welcome - I had Nuelasta shots. It gave me an overall feeling of yuckiness - kind of like the flu. I also had aches and pains in my upper body which my onc said was from the Nuelasta. Hang in there!
Had my 6 month onc check-up Monday. It was a short meeting as I have no issues and I didn't have any questions. Slowly but surely feeling back to normal mentally.
Laura - that is alarming about the recurrences in your group. Since you were in 2005 and I was in 2007, I actually did some math to see how much longer I had before I had to worry. It sucks that we have to think that way. How is your DH feeling?
Wendy - hope your back is ok. I have missed your daily weather reports as well.
Sorry I haven't addressed everyone - have to get back to work. You are all in my thoughts!

Ladies, Another bumpy ride with bc. Was all set to have PET scan tomorrow and was called by DR's office today to say they were going to have to cancel because insurance had denied it. She went on to say that had not know till today they needed pre-approval. An imaging company bring their machine to my clinic every Thursday. When they called last week to make the appointment, no one told them they needed to do the pro-approval. Dr is going to call insurance company tomorrow and if that doesn't work they will go thru the appeals process. The supposed reason they gave is that it is experimental. How many hundreds of ladies on this web site have had these done. Just one more frustration. Now I have 4 tiny nodules on my lung and one on my thyroid which no one knows what they are and insurance does not want to pay to find out. They have been great up to now, but with 2 MRI's and 2 CT scans in the last month maybe they are becoming shy of unnecessary expensive tests. Just tired of not being in control of anything I guess. 2 more days of reg. rads and then boosts start Monday. They did a template of the area today to use for the boosts. 12 boosts over the next 3 weeks. Have done pretty well so far with rads. 1 small spot under arm and one small spot under breast a little sore. Went to refill biafine prescription yesterday and they would not fill it until tomorrow because of insurance. I think there is probably just enough left in tube to get me thru until then. It's not like it is a drug or something. Who is going to overdose on radiation cream. Thanks for letting me vent, It is hard to do that here at home. DH just doesn't get how frustrating all the trip to docs, rads, etc can get to us.
Hugs to all. Annette

NAVYMOM - WELCOME! Sorry you're "eligble" to join us... but you won't meet a nicer group of girls who will actually UNDERSTAND and empathize with all your worries, concerns, confusion, frustration, etc., etc., etc.
Jackie - BEE WATCHFUL... oh! You are so "pun"ny! christi - Awwwwwww...hang in there... I can so understand what you're going there.
Wendrew - DS goes for her bx on Sept. 8th... our Mom will be with here.
Susan - Sorry about SIL - but glad it's not worse. And so glad you got a clean bill of health. Would glucosomine/chondroitin work for the bone pain?
Donna - GOOD FOR YOU! WOO-HOO! Rock On! So proud of you! See...Illinois girls ARE tough!
MAMAQ - You DON'T HAVE TO RAISE any money... It's totally optional. Some people do, some people don't. The only thing that you have to do is - is pay to register.
connie - I know... I am so disheartened by the percentage in my chemo group. I worry about each of us. I try NOT to obsess... it's hard to NOT worry. But I can't let myself! dh is doing well... he'll have a 3 month f/u and will know more then.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
GIRLS - you do NOT HAVE TO raise money for the "walk"... if family and friends would like to donate... that's great, but do not feel pressured. The main objective is to walk together as Illinois Survivors... here's the link to register:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I had lunch today with my Rocktober Sister - she is visiting here from Israel. We had a great time!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
And also... I taked to blackjack yesterday... she is NOW working full-time...so I am officially the new CRUISE DIRECTOR - in addition to the Illinois Survivor Secretary! lol
I will be posting... in the next couple of days... dates and times for our upcoming get togethers!

Thanks for the good info regarding Neulasta. No bone pain today, but new horrible heartburn and burping.
NanaA: So sorry you are having fits with your insurance. Very Frustrating. Been there, done that!
Have agood night everyone.

Laura... Thanks so much for the info. I had been under the misconseption that you needed to raise a couple of thousands per walker. Know that family and friends will contribute but I didn't know if I could raise that much. Knowing that, I'm about 95% positive I will be joining you. Something I have always wanted to do to honor my grandfather. My oldest daughter will probably be joining me. She saw a commercial and asked if we could do it someday, when I felt better. I think this may be a great way to show the kids that I'm still here and getting stronger every day.
Thanks
Jo

Annette - Wow - that is unbelievable about your insurance. You are right - women have those PET scans every day. And since they are concerned about some spots, it doesn't seem unreasonable at all. There are women that have those scans as routine and you are just asking for one because of a concern. As if you haven't gone through enough, now you have that stress. I have a good feeling that your Dr. will get it pushed through, but still....
I think the 3 Day walk requires you to raise a ton of dough. I am fairly confident I will be joining you Laura. My DH is at a Scout leader training that weekend so he can't come and I'm not sure about my son (he may have a campout), but I'm pretty sure that Kelly and I will be there!

Oh Annette, I hope today is a better day. I had the insurance issue with biofene and it made me so mad. Finally bought it myself. We should keep our leftover biofene. I know it is not good to transfer prescription stuff but it is a cream and if insurance is going to play games like that we should perhaps as well. Mine is long gone.
Good to clarify that money issue, Laura, regarding the walk. With the economy being what it is, these walks are not bringing in what they did and so SHOW OF SUPPORT THROUGH PRESENCE works if money is tight. . Maybe you could explain also what KOMEN is all about and what they do. I think people are getting asked to contribute to so much when money is tight and would like to know what the organization is known for.doing with donation money.
Have a good day...it is drippy out/

Good morning everyone. Just dropping in for a quick check on all of you.
Annette, I cannot believe your insurance company! How aggravating is that??? As if you have nothing else to worry about right now! I hope everything gets straightened out. I really can't believe they would deny you this test when it's certainly needed. Hang in there!
Laura, great pic of you and your Roctober sister from Israel. What fun you two must have had! She looks so familiar. I think I corresponded with her when I was going through my treatments and she helped me out different times.
Navy, I could be mistaken but I think it was Wendy who always took the Claritin before the Neulasta shots. She should be on soon and can comment on that. I had the Neulasta shots and must say that I was lucky as I had no reactions from them at all.
Dave and I are still considering the walk. I am waiting to see if I get any help today from the chiropractor and how my back issues progress. I've already walked in the Peoria Komen walk but love doing this one, too, and love the chance to touch base personally with all you northern gals. Hopefully it will work out for us.
Connie....so glad that your check-up was good...YAHOO!!! and that you're slowly getting back to "the way things should be." It sounds like you had a busy summer with your kids, packed with lots of memorable activities and days on the water despite the cooler weather. I'm so happy for you!
It's not raining here yet but it sure looks threatening. My plants could use a good soaking so I wouldn't mind if we got a nice gentle shower. Unfortunately most of our storms this summer have been full-blown wind and rain-driven storms that always seemed to do some damage somewhere in the area.
Hi to everyone!!! I hope you have a good day.

Afternoon gals....I thought just ripping off a little wallpaper border in the master bath would be a no-brainer. Ha! Talk about work! Scraping walls, washing walls, painting walls etc etc etc!
Re: the Claritin and Neulasta....take it the day of and 3 days after. My onc says it is an allergic reaction that causes the bone pain...don't know if this is true but I did what he said and no bone paiin.
Yeah for Susan's SIL..I think! There are so many drugs out there that I am sure that you guys will find the one!!!!!! I don't mean to make light of this all but boy...we sure do know it could have turned out waaaaaay different.
Donna...whoa! Your hair is growing back waaaaay fast! Aren't you the lucky one!
I am tired and achy.....and DH will be home soon......be careful if you think it would be fun if you just ripped off that wallpaper border,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Yeah...no it's not!

Hi everyone.....Navy....you probably need (my oncology people forgot to prescribe it for me so I got it real late thru chemo ) Prilosec or one of those. I don't recall but I think the pharmaceutical name was Omeprazole. I took it in the morning about 20 minutes before I ate anything.. Just one a day and all my belching, gurgling and funny feeling stomach stopped. You could also get this over the counter probably but as they were willing to prescribe it....I did it that way. Co-pay of $8.00 and I figured that was cheaper and I got more. I took it for several months and probably should have done it a bit longer. I hope you get a handle on this. The chemo is hard on the tummy so sometimes you need this help.
Annette....that is a bummer. Hope your Doc. will get it through for you. Where cancer is concerned I think any lump, bump, spot etc that shows up should be investigated fully as soon as possible. In the long run at worst it could save a lot of money for the Insurance and at best relieve your mind about your own condition so you can get on with the business of healing.
Onto the quote....hope you all don't mind if I put a funny on in......I have always got a kick out of George Carlin and once in awhile I get a humorous one....I thought I'd take advantage.
Hugs, Jackie

Funny Quotes by George Carlin
"A lady came up to me on the street, pointed at my suede jacket and said, "Don't you know a cow was murdered for that jacket?" I said, "I didn't know there were any witnesses. Now I'll have to kill you too"."0 -

So that is a sample of my humor side......sometimes I wonder about myself.

Hi girls, barbgale here. Just thought I'd let you know that I finally had my biopsy and got my results yesterday and they were benign! I'm so relieved and just want to thank you all for being so supportive when I needed it. Take care and my prayers will always be with all of you.

In case you jump on here againCongratulations barbgale and if you don't.....isn't it wonderful everyone. I like to hear good news....even it it's someone else's. We are all very happy for you.

Barbgale... Good chance that you'll never read this. But if you do, "That news is AWESOME!" I'm so happy for you. Just make sure that you continue to be vigilant with your mammograms. If it wasn't for mammograms I wouldn't have found mine.
Have a Happy Life!

Morning! Well...what a strange afternoon! Every time I typed a post and hit the submit button, this website shut down. Will see what happens today! Dark on the deck, and drippy...temp 61. BUT....ch 9 just said that the rain is outta here....??? wonder what that stuff is that is falling out of the sky.....
Navy....yep, I took Claritin, day of neulasta and for 3 days after. I never got bone pain, but then I took the claritin so I don't know if it worked, or I just didn't get any se's. My onc said the bone pain is an allergic reaction to the neulasta so that's why the claritin.
Connie....don't you just love short and sweet doc appts!
Barbgale.....I'm with Jo...you will probably never read this...but....AWESOME!!!! You lucky duck, you! Go have a happy life! Hugs and more hugs to you!
Laura....that woman looks familar to me as well....was she originally from the Melrose Park area? BTW, you both look wonderful! Thanks for the clarification on the walks and money. I too thought you had to raise $1800. before you could join.
Annette....ah, insurance companies! They will pay eventually....just trying to hold the line on costs....while their CEO's are making $10 million a year, plus bonuses. Or reimbursing hospitals $75. per toothbrush per patient, who don't use them anyway. Hopefully it will be a short wait for you....to find out that everything is OK!!!! Fingers crossed for you!!!!
Need to get started on my back exercises....was a bad girl yesterday and spent 6 hours stripping wallpaper borders and repainting and cleaning/washing walls but DH's bathroom looks great. Have a great day....hope this post goes thru!

Sort of quiet here today. Nearly 10,000 entries on this thread so I guess we won't fade away if no one posts for awhile. Looking forward to the week-end. Lately I have not co-ordinated too well and the idea of sleeping in on the week-end seems so appealing on -- starting with pleasant thoughts of it on Thursday afternoons as I yawn my way through the rest of my work-day. Friday is only mildly better as far as yawning.
I'm hoping to get a little more accomplished this week-end than I did this past one. I only did my pantry and loafed the rest of the time. I'll never get done at that rate.
Hope you are all looking forward to a good week-end of having fun and relaxing in whatever order you wish.
Hugs, Jackie

Good Morning All;
Barbgale what wonderful news for you. We all are happy to hear when a sista gets such news.
Navy-I am happy you found the thread and have joined our merry band of sistas. They will help guide you each step of the journey you travel. Someone has been where you are sometime and have many helpful hints.
I have been busy settling back into the nanny routine with the two granddaughters. The seven year old continues to make mornings challenging but fun and that two year delights all of us with her antics.
I had a whirlwind Tuesday of doc appts but all with great news. My genetic tests came back negative for BRCA1/2 so I won't be sharing that with my girls...HIPP, HIPP, HOORAY! that was the hardest part of my dx, Did I give that gene to them. I have scheduled my second stage surgery for Sept. 21. Can't wait for the TE's to be gone so I can sleep. I feel so lucky that I have not had to do chemo, or rads, but also sad that others do have to have these tx. BUT look at the bright side that there are the treatments for them to get rather than what could be. LIFE IS WHAT WE MAKE IT TO BE.
DD and I are off today to the Lincoln, IL Art Fair and Balloon Fest. We have a friend who works with the organizing group so will enjoy a few hours with them.
Garden is keeping me busy with produce but will slow down with these cool, fall like temps. Whats with this crazy weather, any way??
Blessings to each of you as you travel on your journey wherever you go.

Tanya...good to see you stopping in again. How beautiful to comfort those who do have to go the chemo route for their treatment from the beast. We are also glad for your good news that you are not "passing" on the C gene to your daughters. Hurry September....huh !!!!!. I can 't imagine having to deal with the expanders....just the word for me evokes a not so pleasant feeling.
Navy -- glad the Prilosec is doing it's job. Just keep it up all the way through the chemo and for at least a few weeks afterward. You will still be short for a bit on strong really healthy cells.
No special plans for the week-end. Wonder of wonders....Dh has the week-end off which is rare so there will be that. Hope it stays a bit on the cooler side. I know it's fairly cool in the Chicago area right now. What a summer ( definitely a not summer ) this has been.
Hope you all have a good day and great week-end.
Hugs, Jackie

Good morning girls,
I have survived the first week of school. It has been a bit challenging to say the lest. New students, teachers and principle makes for a fun week. Can I do this.... I think I can do this!! lol I have been so busy setting up my office that I have not posted much. I miss all of you!!. I see we have a few new one's. Welcome to our little corner of the world navymom, barbgale, tanya. I hope you are all doing well. I have passed on the reservation job to Laura as I will be busy at school. I will try to set up monthly dinners with her. Jackie...I cont to love your quotes as I have printed some off and put them on my board. The teachers love to see a new qoute everyday. So thank you for all the inspiration. You have a place on honor on my board!!
Where has the summer gone to. I do not like this cool weather. I really need the beach, Wendy can you post the beach chair for me. lol. Maybe you need the beach to help your back issues. lol Rita my golf game is on hold for now...too busy with school. I hope you are doing well.

Morning! Well.....it is a bit chilly out there for sure. I'm wearing jeans and a sweater, took the Z out and left the top up and turned on the heat cuz my toes in the flip-flops were cold. AND....I saw a pumpkin on a porch! I am NOT ready for this!
Donna....have a great weekend! Boy, did your hair ever grow fast!
Blackjack...here's your beach chair....I really want to be back in Florida! Sun, sand, surf and warm temps....that's for me.
Elfsong....looks like you do have some good genes in your family, as well as some not so good! Sounds like you will do just GREAT! Nice to hear stories about long-term survivors...
Tanya....YAY!!! For negative BRAC results. I did the testing as well, even tho I don't have kids as my Dad and paternal aunt had bc, but in their 80"s and I wanted to check this out as my sister has 2kids and they each have a daughter.
I'm watching foodnetwork, she's making mini-baklava's...yum!!!! She takes a short cut, using those little pastry cups from the freezer section at the store....this looks easy enough!
Jackie....I too often print out your quotes, or cut n paste them for DH to take to school! See...they really do get around! He's taken to printing them out MUCH bigger and then putting them up in the faculty room.....he even gives you the credit!
Need to get a few things done, and then I am going to talk DH into taking me out for a burger and a beer or 2. I should really mow but the grass in some places is soggy so tomorrow or Monday will be soon enough....it's not going anywhere that's for sure! I'll check back later....

Hey Tanya, I forgot all about the Lincoln Balloon Fest until I just read your post. We usually enjoy that, too! Hope you had a good time! So glad the BRAC test came back negative.
Blackjack, it sounds like you're adjusting well to the full day school routine! You know, I really got more accomplished when I was teaching full time. I had my routine and didn't procrastinate. As for the golf, I didn't even swing the club this past week. My back pain was too bad. I finally got into a chiro who has given me some relief. He told me I was doing everything wrong. Since my pain is caused by muscle spasms he said I should be out there keeping active and at least playing 7 holes of golf if that was all I could play instead of laying and sitting around resting my back and thinking I was doing the right thing/ I read three books this last week and I missed my social life!!! :LOL
Our local nursery has all their perennials on sale so we went and purchased enough to finish up the landscaping project that we started in March. It looks pretty good for a couple of duffers. Now we just have to wait until next spring and see what survives. Mary Jane gave me a classy crystal stake decoration and that accents my side plot. I'd post pictures but that is a whole morning project for me and I still can't sit that long. In fact, I'm standing up and typing right now!
I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! Do you like these cooler temperatures, Jackie?
