WHAT???? There were Greek men and no one told me? That's not fair that you all had them to yourselves! OK Mary....if we meet up at Springhill we'll bring our own Greek Men! And we won't share either.
Laura....the picture is great...not like you have anything better to do but could you do names for me and for anyone else not able to go? Not sure who everyone is. And thanks so much for doing all that for Pat. I know she will get a kick out of it.
Kater....I am so sorry that your Mom has to get back on the merry-go-round. I have no ideas/suggestions for you tho....sorry. I actually don't know anyone with OVCA.
Pat....I don't know about you but I don't think it's fair about the Greek men! Hugs and smiles!

It was so nice to see everyone. We probably could have talked all night. Let's do this more often!

Also, if anyone is interested, there is a seminar this Saturday Dec. 1 at McHenry County College titled Cancer: Life's Unexpected Teacher from 2-4:00. The cost is $5. It will be presented by Beverly Kirkhart, cancer survivor and coauthor of Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul.
Not sure what this will be like but Jan and I are going to attend. Anyone else interested? You will have to register 815-455-8588. Course ID# NCC S01 001
Let us know if you're going so we can meet up.

Michelle:
Thanks for the information. I am open to any new experience and as a teacher, I love the title of this presentation! I will probably make my decision to sign up by Thursday. If so moved, I will look for you and Jan Clare (hey, JC, those chocolates were so good).
Thank you again for the tip. Michelle and Jan, I love your hair cuts. I am not sure what to do with my curly locks! I was bald for so long that I am so willing to just let the curls play out their song, silly as it has become.

I had such a great time with you all on Monday! I too would like to do this on a more regular basis. Maybe we can establish a once a month or every other month Monday (Tuesday?? Might be better if restaurants are closed) night dinner where we can go all over the Chicago area- More down south for those who are out of the area might be good every once in a while??
Laura, thank you so much for posting the photo! Mine were just okay IMHO. Those who were there, you know how my camera does that double flash to supposedly reduce red-eye? Well, it doesn't work all that well. There was still red-eyes all over the place. Maybe it was just too dark in the restaurant!
Michelle- thanks for posting the info on the seminar. I'm looking forward to it. I hope more of us can come!
Blackjack- The MCC is on Route 14 in Crystal Lake- so it's probably about 30 minutes from Schaumberg?? But, I have to say that I think this seminar is geared more towards emotional support for those who are finishing or have finished treatment. Not so much about meds. However, I sure hope you come anyway. We could all meet there and maybe go out for coffee/food afterwards and we could tell you what we know about different meds!
I hope everyone has a great day! Later, my sisters!

Janclare, I did register for this seminar. I just finished tx and I am seeing a therapist to help me with this emtional rollercoaster ride that I am. I really have not excepted this diagnosis of breast cancer and have been dragging my feet to make decsions about tx. I think maybe going this can only help me. Thanks for letting me know about this. I am glad that I found this site. The info has been very helpful on certain levels and everyone is very supportive of other. I have not had much support during this whole ordeal, my family doesn't really don't talk about it. I think that they too can't deal with it like me. So out of site out of mind as the old saying goes and it will go away. Any way that's for the info I hope it will have some valuable information for me. Blackjack

Best wishes to you. I know this can all be very tough, but you're doing the right thing by seeing a therapist. Surround yourself with those that can help you, and you will do just fine. The tough part is accepting a diagnosis, but the toughest part is facing it head on and making an effort to come to grips with it. And you are doing just that! Hopefully we can get together again soon, and you will be able to join us! Hang in there...

Zap-Hope you can make it, let us know so we can plan a meeting place/time.
Blackjack-looking forward to meeting you. PM either Jan or myself and we can exchange cell#'s to find each other.
Hope others can make it too!

Hi girls - I had a couple of busy days at work and haven't checked this thread. It sure was great meeting all of you on Monday. Great food, great company and greek men!
Thanks for posting the picture so quickly, Laura - it looks great.
Sorry I won't be able to make the seminar. We are taking the kids and heading to the Wisconsin Dells this weekend with 3 other families. Should be a fun time.
Have a great day!

Wow! You gals have been busy posting while I've been scouring the malls and shopping areas for bargains. (and eating that wonderful chocolate JanClare supplied when I needed an energy burst!!!)
It was so GOOD to see you all again and to meet Connie and Joanna. You're so right, Michele! I think we could have talked all night and we should do this more often.
Kater...I'm so sorry. I hadn't read the post about your Mom yet when I saw you on Monday night or I would have given you an extra long hug. I'm so sorry that she has to face this again. She has to be an amazing woman. We now see where you get your strength!
Michele, thanks again for making all the arrangements. You and I were thinking alike about the cards. What's that old saying? Great minds think alike???? That's really amazing for chemo brain candidates! :-)
My pictures are O.K. I need to figure out how to get them posted on here. Really, though, ladies, I do not think that picture taking was our Greeek photographer's greatest talent! LOL The cafe was an excellent choice, Laura and the food was great!
Wendy, kats, and Nicki....we missed you.
Blackjack... so glad you're going to the seminar. This diagnosis is hard for EVERYONE! That's part of the reason we're all here helping each other through the journey. I hope the seminar helps. What kind of treatment have you had?
Well, I am drained. We drove into my driveway about 6:00 this evening and I went to the church to teach my youth group class at 7:00. I have left the mass of packages plopped in the middle of the office floor. We had the trunk and back seat filled! :-)
Take care gals! Catch you all later.

It was wonderful meeting you ladies Monday night. I felt like I knew some of you already from Rita's comments over the months. When we got back to the hotel, she walked me through the site and I think I can maneuver it better now and comment from time to time.
There was such a spirit of optimism and faith at the table. That is a wonderful thing. You all are so knowledgeable about the illness. I either didn't know the particulars about my case or I've forgotten them. I have an appointment with my oncologist the 13th, so I plan to ask some questions!
Again, it was great meeting you, Pat, Connie, Michele, Jan, Joanna, Kater, Laura and Susan. Thank you for welcoming me.

MaryJane - it was nice meeting you too! Such a great group of girls we have!

One of you asked about the Birch Log Centerpieces that I make...sorry...can't remember who. Here's a photo:

That was me, Laura, and I love your centerpiece design. Wow! You are so talented. I should think that you'd have NO trouble selling them.
Connie..have fun with the kids this weekend. That sounds like fun! Enjoy them while they are young. They grow up so fast!
Susan, I figured you had to be HER2 negative like me. Don't rush yourself or push yourself about finding out all the related details. Everybody deals with this horrid disease in different ways and no one way is the right way for everyone. When you are ready, you might decide to dig into more research and if you don't...hey that's O.K., too. And as for this thing "going south," that's not going to happen because if it did, I would pick you up and throw you right back "up north!" LOL So just toss those concerns and worry "on the back burner" for now and get ready to enjoy this wonderful holiday season. By the way, what good books have you been reading? I need to find one of those book that you "just can't put down." It's been awhile since I stumbled onto one of them.
Back to work, gals.

Hi gals,
After I made my last post, I got to thinking about Pat and just got on the phone and called her. She was able to talk to me a we chatted a bit.
She says that "it's not all good and it's not all bad." Some days she can get up and move around a bit. Her best days are the days that she sleeps because sleeping alleviates the pain. She is searching for some way to relieve pain and still be able to be alert and functionable for a portion of the day. She still can't sit to get on the boards and asked about all of you and how everyone was doing.
I asked if there was anything we could do to help her and she said that she'd really like to have some of us research "methadone and cancer therapy." She can't do the research but if we can find some things about it and send it to her, she'd like to educate herself more on this topic in her search to alleviate pain without being completely knocked out by sleep. She's currently on the methadone and would like to know how it is suppose to help in cancer therapy and the main reasons it is used, along with positives or negatives on the subject. (actually any info on metadone and cancer therapy) I told her I would post this and see if I could get any "takers" to help me gather some info on it. Anyone good at "searching the net" and willing to help locate and print out some info that you might be able to send her?
Other than that, she seemed glad to hear from me and was still interested in her therapy attack. She said to tell you all thanks for everything you have sent and for all your cards. (I didn't tell her about the latest ideas we've had so she'll be surprised when Laura sends out the next envelope.)
Just wanted to get this posted right away before I forgot it! (There's that reference again to chemo brain! LOL)

How's everyone doing on their Holiday shopping? I've done a lot of mine on-line. I ordered a book from Amazon.com last Saturday & was shocked when it was delivered on Monday.... How about that for fast???
Laura- Truly a beautiful centerpiece, you really are artistic and talented.
kater-Sorry about your Mom. Sending hugs to you.
Rita- How nice of you to call Pat, I'm sure you were of great comfort to her.
Would someone be able to put a name to faces in the picture Laura posted so Wendy, myself and any others who weren't able to make it to the get together dinner knows who's who? Thanks
Mary

Gosh Susan, sure hope you get rid of that cold quickly. This is not the time of year to be sick! :-)
Mary: Here is the key to the photo. Since I am ignorant about how to get photos into a message, I will just have to give you the key and you can go back and match it to the picture:
BACK ROW...left to right beginning with the gal in the lime green breast cancer sweater: Mary Jane, Rita, Susan (Zap), Pat G. (smerf), Kater, Connie
FRONT ROW left to right beginning with the first seated gal: JoAnna, Michele, Jan Clare and Laura. Hope that helps get everyone identified. Next time we meet, we hope to have the rest of you there, too.
One of the gorgeous Greek men took this photo and all the others that we have. See what you gals missed!!!! LOL
Your graphics always brighten the thread and our day, Mary!
Everyone have a good weekend. You gals need to let us know how your seminar goes tomorrow. Have fun!

Morning girls!
Thanks Rita for the names....Laura had actually e-mailed it to me. Of course I had to promise her a beach house and a beach AND a beach boy to get them (but I fooled her.....I really didn't send them...haha Laura!!!!)
I won't make the conference today as it is my grandnephew's 3rd BD party...it's at 3pm, right off of Route 20 and for you girls around here...not the road I want to be on in the middle of a snow and ice storm!
Mary and I are going to try to get together some week day for a shopandlunch...Kater you mentioned you might like that. Anyone else free during the day? Mary thought that Springhill Mall in West Dundee (on Route 31 just N of Route 72) would be much less crazy than Woodfield. She needs to be back in her neighborhood by 2:30 tho but that would leave us lots of time to visit and spend money.
Susan...sorry about your cold. Take care. I've heard...not from personal experience of course ()....that hot toddies work wonders.
Everyone be careful with the weather tonight and Pat....hugs and smiles always!!
Oh and Laura...your centerpiece is gorgeous. I would certainly buy that in a heartbeat.
And Rita....you are such a sweetheart. I hope you a considering going back to some teaching. Kids need you, believe me!

OK....was trying to add a graphic...obviously I am too stupid for words as I cannot get it to work.
OK...kats and I are going to meet up at Springhill Mall on Friday Dec. 14th. Anyone else make it? It will be a shop/lunch thing. PM me if you think you can make it.
0 -
Well....OK...not as stupid as I thought I was!
0 -
Well...and now it doesn't show up. Sorry girls....the stupid one will stop now....

Laura:
The centerpiece is beautiful. I am sure I am not the only person who would like to know the price, or do you not sell them to individuals? Can you let us know if that is appropriate.
Rita, your words came at just the right time for me. I was feeling kinda down and now I know I need to take a vacation from my demons. It was so great to meet Mary Jane and she represents bundled up hope.
When it comes to books, I am in a book club with my fellow teachers (like we need to see more of each other). It is kinda cool, like our thread, in that all ages are included. I am the oldest, I am sure, but that doesn't matter. We just finished the two books (The Kiteflyer and A Thousand Shining Suns) - author is Hussein??? who is originally from Kubal and we loved them both. I read the fiction book Undressing the Moon and couldn't put it down (warning: it is about breast cancer).
Ladies who go to the conference, please let us know how it went. What with a small head cold and the impending warning on weather, I am happy to just stay warm and cozy and cocooned.
