I pray for Pat and her family. May she rest in peace.

Thank you Rita, Laura, and the rest of you who brought a smile to Pat's face, and for your strength and encouragement to all of us. We need each other and I give thanks daily for you.

    Hi everyone,

I did not know Pat as I am so new here but I echo all the beautiful sentiments.  You made sure she didn't walk alone all the while she was here and I'm sure you brought her more comfort than could be expressed.  I am not truly religious, but more spiritual believing that we are very old souls so while we mourn those who must leave us, they to me are not so much gone.  Just the interaction we were able to have.  Doesn't mean it still doesn't hurt and that the physical presence won't be sorely missed.

She sounded like a really special person.  Peace to her and her family.

Well, tomorrow is the big day.  I am a little bit nervous but want to get it over with and move on.  Rita will let you all know how I faired.

I will be in the hospital overnight.  My surgery is at 11:00am.

I am sooooooo sorry and sad to her of Pat's passing.  It just seems so unreal.  But she is in such a much better place and no more pain.

May God Bless her and her family.

     Well...going to bed.........

Good morning all you great Illinois gals!

Large snow flakes are falling here as I look out my office window.  Although I'm not a "winter person,"  I must admit that they are lovely as they cascade to the ground.  We didn't get much over the night so the ground is not yet covered.  Did you northern girls get alot of snow?

Ginny..in case you check in before you go, I'll be thinking about you today and will check in with your hubby later in the afternoon.  You go get 'em!  Wipe that big C right out!  My prayers, good vibes, and thoughts will be with you in that operating and recovery room, dear friend!

Mary Jane, how is that new baby doing?  I hope you have pictures to bring Saturday night.

Sue and Julie...how are you doing?

Kater...hope all is still going well with you.  Glad to get your post and update!!!

Laura...no news about a new car???  Hmmm...Santa must have gotten confused and taken it to somebody else.  I'll have to have a talk with him.  I don't think that there is anybody who could have been a better girl than you this year.  LOL

JanClare...please check in!  Hope all is going well for you.

Michele, Mazy, Connie, Mary, Smerf, and Susan....have a good day!

Connie, I bet your kids are enjoying the school vacation as much as Susan is!

Jackie...how's it going after #2?  Are you escaping the nausea this time?  Thinking about you and remembering those days.  Just pamper yourself!

Wendy...I did try the magnesium oxide.  So far there is no change but I've only taken two so I can't expect miracles.  I found the magnesium citrate online and am going to order a bottle.

    Blackjack...hope you're enjoying your family!

Today I'm going to write scholastic bowl questions for the young guy who bought my business.  That will keep me busy and occupied.  Once I get going on it, I always find it very interesting.  Hey Susan!  This might be something that you would enjoy doing, especially during your retirement.

Take care everyone!  Stay warm and safe!

    Rita

Morning!  Boy is the snow coming down out here in S. Elgin...I went to exercise VERY early and I am so glad I did.

Ginny....best of luck to you on this journey and Rita will keep us updated on you.  Know that we are thinking of you and you be strong!  Go kick some cancer-butt!

Those of you with your kids home, or if you are on school break...could someone PLEASE come entertain my DH?  I am going crazy!  Thank goodness I found that Magnum PI is on at 3pm so he goes upstairs for a whole hour in the afternoon.  No...I do not want to go out for lunch everyday, or dinner everyday and no you cannot help me vacuum or dust or do laundry as it would take me longer to teach you than to just do it myself.     But...I love him.  So I guess I'll keep him around!

I see that some of you gals haven't PM'd some of your stuff to LauraGTO, such as address/Phone #.  If you are some what reticent about this then by all means, don't do it.  However...if you put out your address...you never know what the mailman will bring you.  Please include your BD and DX date as well...who knows?  Maybe we will send you that new car that Laura didn't get!

Jackie...how are you feeling so far this time?  Wishing you a VERY easy time.  And I bet your hair looks cute!!!

Rita...be careful and don't take too much magnesium from citrate...that's the stuff that we used to give our patients to clean them out for colon x-rays!Sealed

Well...time to start doing something constructive...like maybe....

Yikes, it was raining 7 am on the way to Hinsdale (mom chemo). I drove my Mom's car and I hope I wont be sorry. Her car is partially in a covered deck parking area but there are windows so no doubt there will be some snow on it when we get out of here this afternoon.

Waiting to hear from MY doctor, they just got the pathology report they said when I called, and the other doctor (Dr. A.W.) had operation herself Michele 101 said??.?? KNow anymore about that anyone? I Hope it goes well, I love her for a gynecologist.

I talked to someone here today that her sister died of ovarian cancer, got it at age 45, died, stage four, she got bloated but thought it was her thyroid acting up.....this lady here had preventative hysterectomy some 10 years ago and now she has ovarian cancer stage three. NO ONE TOLD HER TO KEEP HAVING THE CA 125 CANCER MARKER TEST and ultrasounds. Her doctor didnt know you have 2-3 % chance of still coming up with ovarian cancer.

beware! This lady had sciatica nerve problems, come to find out it was a lymph node so enlarged that it was pressing on the nerve. No problems since the surgery to remove enlarged lymph node or tumor, not sure which.

One thing...since there is a big cavity with hysterectomy, there is a whole cavity for tumor to grow so possibly not detected as soon....? More thoughts to ponder.

Girls are you still having all the usual tests (laura to go, jan clare, etc/)?

HOPING GINNY DID WELL TODAY OF COURSE.

I dont write much to add to bandwidth but I try to put my two cents in if it can help sometimes.

I had not thought ahead to what doctors would say about my testing, (now that my ovaries our out!)

but now I know I will find someone who will still follow it well, that is considering I get a good pathology report this morning, hope so!

Next hurdle, connecting with Rush surgeon although i didnt get mammo at rush....and colonosscopy, but right now I gotta get end of the year records in line, so I"m gonna fudge a little, next oncology apptmt not til january so....  Kater

I am lighting a candle for fitzpatti.  Another angel has gone to heaven. The other candle is for her family who are filled with grief and loss.

I know I have been missing in action, Im so sorry.  Work and the Holidays just have taken away most of my computer time.  I know I will never catch up - so will just start here.

You all are very special to me.

Got snow here in Glendale Hts.  Was pretty precarious earlier, but its 3 pm and looks like it might be letting up.

Sending hugs to everyone. Its never easy to lose someone like fitzpatti.

    Love ya all

Hi gals....I just talked with Ginny's MIL.  She has made it through the surgery and is in recovery.  According to the doctor, everything went as expected.  That's all they know at this time.  She has to stay at least 23 hours and maybe more depending upon how she's doing so I plan on running up in the morning to see her.  I'll let you know anything else that I find out at that time.

Nicki..so good to see you on the Illinois site.  You're so right, "It's never easy to lose somebody like fitzpatti."  Please visit us more often.  We miss you!

Ginny - Well...right about now you're in groggy land...resting peacefully, opening your eyes every now and then, and hopefully you're pain free.

It was ONE YEAR AGO TODAY I had my prophylactic Mast (the first one was a year before that)...I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for you. But don't over do it. Take it easy, rest and relax as much as you can.

Rita - OMG - That's so nice of you to visit Ginny! You are unbelievable! Drive carefully.

Kater - Great path news! Yay, You! You really are special...here you just had surgery yourself and you're taking Mom for chemo. kater, I don't know how you do it, but you're truly remarkable...always helping someone whether it's a cat or a relative! Hope you have a great weekend. You d-serve it! As for the "usual" tests...I just had my annual Gyne visit and they did a ca-125 and of course a pap. But what's great about Dr. Warren is that she told me ANY tests I want done, she will write an rx for  them. I thought that was really nice.

Jackie - Congrats...chemo #2 is history for you! I hope you're feeling okay...just keep looking ahead toward the next chapter. And...DON'T let that BIL get the best of you! Hey...what the heck does he know, anyway!Be well.

Wendy - No way no how...is anyone getting that car but me! LOL But honest...I would share it! LOL You and those graphX of yours...too funny! Gotta love your sense of humor!

Nicki - Hey there...glad you popped in!

Mich, Susan, Connie, kats, Pat, maryjane, mazy, Jan, Joanne...Hi to you all!

    Evening everyone,

Good to hear that Ginny is through the surgery.  Also, Kater it's very good news from you too.  Nice to put those caveats out there too.  I'm starting to think I need to call my old primary physician and make sure just what all came OUT during my hysterectomy a few years ago.

Wendy, you and your graphics always make my day.

I managed to avoid the nausea so far........what a Godsend and it should go just as well tomorrow.  Would be nice if I can get a better system going now so I won't go into STRONG dread every time it's time to have more of the goodf stuff.  I try to think of it as hurting just a little while it's making me brand new.  The hair cut sure did make me brand new.  After I had it cut so short, my scalp hurt all the time....the little individual hair follicles I guess.  Now the sensations ( just call me baldy ) are sort of damp and warm since I had it all shaved.  Not at all what I expected.  Well, the wig is ready as well as several hats.....I'm good to go.

Rita, you really are a fantastic lady.

    All take care.

Just checking in to say good morning to all of you.  I have a busy day planned and need to get into action.  I still want to stop by the hospital and keep Ginny company for a bit this morning.  (It's really not an inconvenience since it's only about 20 minutes from my house.)  Then it's off to get the rest of the ingredients for the appetizers for the New Year's Eve party.  Dave and I got the liquor part done last night amidst stares from the other customers at Friar Tucks.  It has been so long since I've hosted a party and we don't drink much (and if we do, we drink wine that we've discovered at a vineyard) that my liquor cabinet needed to be restocked.  Everyone (and I do mean everyone) in our group drinks something different.  Our cart was loaded with everything from Bud Light to gin.  Then I want to make ice cream grasshoppers for everyone when we get back from dinner so of course we needed the creme de cacao and creme de menthe.  Then I want sleigh rides for later in the evening.  To sum it up, we looked like a couple of alcoholics as we traveled around the store putting bottles into the cart.  What the staring customers don't realize is that we probably won't repeat the process again for a couple more years!

Then it's off to do a few more errands....they seem to be never-ending!  Am I really that unorganized or do some of you seem to always be running errands, too?

Tonight we're meeting Mary Jane and her hubby and another couple in Pekin for dinner.  The perfect end to a busy day!  :-)

Hope all of you are doing well this cold and frosty morning. Today will be a hard day for Pat's mom and family as they say their final good-bys to a very special lady.  My thoughts and prayers are with them and all of us as we deal (each in our own way) with the loss of a sister.  I do think that our ability and eagerness to reach out to her has taught us all something good about ourselves!

And so I'm off for the day........Enjoy the weekend, gals!

      Morning!

OK...thanks a lot.  No one came to get my DH.  He woke me up...literally woke me up...at 5AM to ask me if I wanted to go out for lunch.  HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Rita....give Ginny a hug for us.  And you are too a super-nice person!  Had to laugh about all those bottles in your cart.  I bought a wine rack last year and it looked empty so I proceeded to buy 20 bottles so it would look better...boy, did I get the looks at check-out.

Jackie...soooo glad this round was better for you.  I remember last Feb. when my hair went on sabbatical...boy was my head cold!  I did buy a couple of sleep caps but I kept yanking them off in my sleep.

Kater.....YAY!  And I agree with Laura...you are always doing something nice for someone, no matter what is going on in your own life.  You are a special girl!

Nicki....so glad to see you back!  We've missed you.

Well...today will indeed be a hard day for Pat's family.  I am sad today, and mad and.....scared too I guess.  For myself, for all of us.  BUT........if I have learned anything from Pat, it is to enjoy each day as if I weren't going to have another one...and to "wooooohooooo"!  So Pat.....this one's for you.....

    WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!

    Everbody else....have a wonderful day...and enjoy!

(And please......come take DH for a day, or an hour....PLEASE!!!!)

Good Morning Everyone!  I am just going to try and make this thread a priority in my life.  Im letting too much work and Holiday stress get to me.  Very little computer time and I cant come on the computer from work as Im driving about.

Well the BIG" snow storm turned into about 1 inch here in Chicago.  Thank goodness - got lucky again.

Wendy:  OMG!  I woke up at 5:30 on my own.  DH is still sleeping.  Now why in the world would he wake you up to ask if your going to lunch.  I still sometimes just dont understand how men think.  Thanks for the welcome back.  I have missed all of you Illinois gals very much.  Cant do a catch up though, so Im gonna start from here.

Rita:  Oh my goodness you are making me so tired.  Hosting a New Years party?  With sleigh rides?  And lots of booze?  Sounds fun.  Me, Im gonna be spending a wonderful evening with my DH.  Tis is the first time in many years he is not playing at a pub on New Years Eve.  Gonna have fish for good luck and lentil soup for good health.  Im really looking forward to 2008.  Im saddened still about fitspatti and just wish there was something I could do to help her loved ones who are going through such grief.

Jacki:  Im not sure I have met you.  I have been away from this thread for a very long time.  Good luck with your chemo.  You are in the countdown.  I never did get used to my wig, so I wore hats all the time.

Laura:  My goodness, congratulations on the year post prophylactic mast.  Seems like that was just yesterday in my mind.  Gosh we have known each other for such along time.  I promise to keep up here as I miss many of you.

OK - the word breakfast means everything to me right now.  Im hungry.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

    Good Morning all,

Ok Laura, It is always something.  And today it's the rather indelicate matters.  Had Senecot last night and have taken a second dose this a.m.  My least favorite thing, but hopefully it won't get to needing dynamite.

Nicki, we haven't really met.  I'm new from December when I ran across this board because I desperately needed the company of others who could TRULY sympathize.  It's one of my biggest blessings to date.

Wendy....dh must have real confidence in your love for him to do such a thing.  Wow !!!  He is a real risk-taker.  If no one comes for him you'll just have to tie him up, stuff him in the closet and play loud music.

Rita you sort of remind me of my two gal friends as we go up & down the ailes at the local liquor store so as to not miss anything new that we haven't tried yet. We are all most definitely over 60.  We probably should delve into something a bit more enriching.

You all have a great day.  As is my habit, I'll be checking in from time to time.

    Good morning all!

I just wanted to share that today is my 1 yr. since my mast/part.recon. I've met so many wonderful people (incl. all of you) this past year. Thank you.

I will continue with herceptin tx until May '08. Then what? I'm not sure.

I am thinking about Pat and her family today. She is a part of 'us' and she will be missed.

How about another get together late January, early February?

(Rita-your new Year's eve sounds wonderful - are there sleigh rides close to where you live?)

Jackie - You sound very strong and positive! Hang in there. I wore wigs to work throughout my 'baldness', and usually bandanas/hats at home. It's amazing how cold one gets with no hair :(  Be sure to wear a cap at bedtime to stay warm.

JanClare- check in when you can.

Nicki-I'm hungry too - off to breakfast!

    Hey, good morning,

Rita, I can hear happiness in your post!  I need that recipe for grasshopper ice cream.  Have a wonderful New Years party.

Ginny, now you begin to heal for real!

Michelle and Laura!  Congratulations on your anniversaries. What a trip we have all been on.  I too wish I had found this during my treatments.  I found this after chemo and rads.  I guess the bottom line is that I feel lucky I even found it all.

Like Nicki, I just dreaded puttng the wig on although everyone swore up and down it looked great.  I avoided mirrors and reflections in wndows and I do not have a picture of me in it.  I did like "no hair maintenance" mornings!

So happy about your good news, Kater!   A big sigh of relief for you!  Jackie, it sounds like you are plugging along.  How are you feeling rght now?

Wendy, tell your husband to read a book....a very long one and be sure there is no line l "leave no child behind" in it.  I am loving this vacation and was in my pajamas until one o'clock yesterday....never left the house what with the snow.

Tonight we are going to Zoo LIghts (Lincoln Park) and then to dinner.

I am worred I forgot someone.  Certainly not Pat.  Do you think  that after a few months, when all begins to settle down, we could ask Pat's mother for a picture of her?  If one of us does a BC walk we could memorialize her and it would be nice to connect a name to a face.

    Hi gals,

Gee Wendy...so sorry I didn't make it up today to take your DH off your hands for awhile.  I had such good intentions and spent the day running here and there, and before I knew it, it was over.  Please forgive me!!  LOL

Well, Ginny amazes me!  I dropped in this morning and she said that the pain was pretty controlled except for around the drains. She was eating regular food and "bored."  They are going to keep her another day, which I think is good.  However, I ran some errands, went home and gathered up a couple of books and bought her some treats from the Rocky Mountain Candy Company and headed back up this afternoon.  She got up and walked to the bathroom by herself and she's really being a great little trooper about all this.  I told her I would have "self-destructed" by this time....and that's certainly the truth.  Anyway, she'll be going home tomorrow sometime and appreciates all your thoughts and good vibes.

Oh Michele and Nicki....I really hate to admit this but the sleigh rides I was talking about are not horse and buggy rides.  They're alcoholic drinks designed for the person who doesn't really like the taste of alcohol.  They're hot chocolate, a shot of butterscotch schnapps and marshmallows on top....just right for a cold winter's night.  Now I'm sure that all of you are also convinced that I'm the verge of alcoholism which corresponds with my gambling addiction!!!!  LOL

Susan, I will PM you the recipe for the grasshoppers tomorrow as I need to get my clothes changed so we can head for Pekin.

Just wanted to let you know that Ginny is doing as well as possible after her surgery.  Also want to tell Laura and Michele.........YEAH!!!! A year under the belt!  And quite a year it has been..........and soon it will be two, three, etc. and when we're old ladies (and I will get there first) we'll sit around talking about the tough times we tough gals went through!  :-)

Gotta run...........Hugs to all of you!

Okay you animal lovers, you must go to Zoo Lights (Lincoln Park Zoo).  I just had the best evening.  The zoo is all lit up in beautiful lights, holiday music is piped in and it it was just glorious!   The apes were all cuddled up with each other with low lights and the penguins were adorable.  It lasts until January 6th or so and is free.  It begins at five daily and ends around nine.  We went around six and roamed about enjoying  the animals that were awake.  Then we ate dinner.  Perfect evening!  I want to make it a family tradition to go each year.  We bundled up but were comfortable.

Rita, I thought you were arranging a sleigh ride too and thought that was so quaint.  The report on Ginny sounds good, especially the "bored" part.  Being bored is a good sign.

    Good evening ladies,

Kater, I'm so happy you got a good pathology report. That is wonderful. I hope your mother is doing well.

Laura, congrats on your one year and two year anniversaries, respectively. Those years will keep zipping by.

Michele, one year has gone by for you as well. That is great!

Susan, hope you continue to enjoy your vacation from school. My daughter who teaches junior high language arts has been trying to grade 36 term papers but would rather play with her twins, so they are not done yet!

Ginny, I'm happy for you that your surgery is over. Take care of yourself and rest up.

Jackie, glad to hear chemo round#2 has gone better than the first time. Hope this continues.

Smerf, Connie, JanClare, Joanna, Wendy, Julie, Nicki, Mary and Mazy, hope you are all doing well.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year. We are going to go see baby Isabelle tomorrow after church, then meet my sister and brother-in-law for New Year's Eve in Missouri, then back to Illinois for my mother's 90th birthday New Year's Day. (I remember when I was a kid, my Dad would wait until midnight on New Year's Eve when it was officially Mom's birthday and set off fireworks! This had to have been tricky when it snowed, but he did it every year!)

    Morning All...

Well...Jackie, I did put DH in the closet but the duct tape didn't hold.  So Susan, I made him sit in his room and read his doctoral dissertation on the Little Red School House model/no child left behind.  He got REALLY  bored REALLY quickly and then I made him go furniture shopping- went to Walter E Smithe as they have a floor sample sale going on (I'm sorry...$8000. for a sofa is a SALE?????).  He was more than ready to closet himself to watch that football game last night and I spent a blissful evening reading.  Heaven.

Rita....I actually knew you were referring to a drink and it sounds delicious.  Have fun tomorrow!

Jackie, Ginny, Julie....how are you guys today?  Feeling good, I hope!

Well...this will be short as I am going to make Tom a good breakfast...it is our 30th anniversary.  Where the heck did the time go?  I know we kid a lot about our DH's but mine is a sweetie, just a big pile of mush and I adore him.

    Everybody....have a wonderful day!

Mary Jane, Rita, Laura, Mich, Susan..........the big guns are coming out.  I have now had to switch from Senecot to magnesium citrate after a hard night at the O.K. Corral.  Hope this does not ruin my beautiful Sunday with the sun out and the warmth on the way.  Sigh!!!

Wendy, glad you let sanity prevail.....these guys are pretty good, aren't they ?  Frankly, I don't know where I'd be without dh here willing to take up the slack or just take on everything if need be.  He has always had that facility.......great in a crisis.

Rita, I as well knew you were talking about a drink.  Guess I've known too many bartenders in my short life or something...I really on drink on occasion and I'm still writing down all your birthdays here so I can properly honor the occasions.

Well, I'm off for a bit.  If you hear a big explosion it will probably be me.

    Jackie

    Hi Girls -

Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

Jackie - LOL those big guns...LOL! Hope things at the corral are better. Pitted prunes worked like a charm for me.

maryjane & susan - I'm envious! You both have new little ones to spoil this holiday! My nieces are big girls now! SNIFF, SNIFF!

Wendy - Awwwwwwwwwww...free the dh! LOL You crack me up!

Rita - I made my way through the blizzard on Friday all the way to my Rheumatoligist's office - only to find out I was scheduled at his Elk Grove Village office! ARGHHHHHHH...I was so *&$@#*! LOL So, now I'm back to square one! I think I'm just going to ignore it for a while! Regardless of what's causing the swelling/pain, there's probably not much that can be done. I'm going to continue taking the Ibuprofen... Hope your preps for tomorrow's party are coming along nicely...although I would imagine you're a great hostess!
