As I look back at the entire tapestry of my life, I can see from the perspective
of the present moment that every aspect of my life was necessary and perfect.
Each step eventually led to a higher place, even though these steps often felt
like obstacles or painful experiences.

Kj-enjoy your trip. I've always wantrd to go to key west-keep notes on the good stuff so when I go I'll know where to go.
Camille-hi neighbor! I started st Elmhurst hospital, but they were just pkain bad, so I switched to Loyola where I had an excelkent experience.
Have s gteat weekend everyone!!0 -
Loyola is a great hospital----I liked my team and they were at Elm. Hosp. but I have to say i was treated fantastic--but I kind of think it had to do with my Drs. cuz I learned along the way they were sticklers for everything and the nurses weren't crazy about them--so I benefitted from it. LOL My surgeon was originally from Rush and my onc. from the one Downtown so they were trained maybe differently. So I was good with it all.

I really like drury lane for dinner and a live theatre. The food is great.
In Wheaton they have that fancy movie theatre where you can have drinks and dinner while you watch a movie.
No kids sounds like fun

Oh chg I forgot about those --see I knew someone would remember and I know there are good restaurants in Oakbrook and of course the mall. But I knew someone would come up with something.

camillegal Granted I live by the zoo but 20 minutes from Oakbrook to downtown?! Maybe if you are driving at 3am in the morning. 290, Roosevelt Rd etc. always seem to have traffic.
My MIL lived in Oakbrook (Ginger Creek then a condo across the street from the mall). There seemed to be plenty of decent restaurants in and around the mall as well as your typical Greek diners and chains. I think there are several Lettuce Entertain You restaurants in Oakbrook that are decent. I wish I remembered the nicer places.
There was a seafood place nearby called Braxton's that was pretty good. It seems to have changed names so I don't know if it's the same.

Now seeds are just dimes to the man in the store And the dimes are the things that he needs, And I've been to buy them in seasons before But have thought of them merely as seeds; But it flashed through my mind as I took them this time, "You purchased a miracle here for a dime."

Braxton closed and in its place is a restaurant called Seasons 52-the menu changes with the season (a bit pricey).
I can make it to the loop from Elmhurst in 15-20 minutes mid-day, but of course there are times when it takes an hour.
I'm off to Colorado Springs via Denver-blizzard be damned.
Have a great week everyone!!

Hi ladies,
I have been scrolling through this forum and find your discussions and support of each other totally wonderful. I am still in that totally numb phase of diagnosis although I think I have tried to handle this pretty rationally. Initially, I had a spot on my mammogram in December, went for a biopsy (which came out clean) and then when I went for a follow-up exam, the mammogram showed another spot and the breast surgeon said it was too deep to get to with an in-office biopsy and scheduled surgery to remove the lump. I will admit I was naive in thinking it would be like the biopsy and ended up with a diagnosis last week of ILC, 9 mm, Stage 2, grade 1. It is estrogen and prog. positive and am still waiting for other lab resulsts. Although margins were clean, she said she wanted to go into the site again to make sure the margins were good and to go ahead and schedule lymph node removal and I said I would like to have another opinion. She bristled at the comment and I suddenly felt a turn in the appointment. Luckily, I had a friend with me and she felt I did the right thing, also. I have an appointment next week at Northwestern and am waiting to hear back from U of Chicago for other opinoins. My head is honestly spinning with all of the information I am trying to absorb in this short amount of time and at the same time, I am scared to death of what is forthcoming.
Am I doing the right thing in waiting to get other opinions? I am wondering because I have already had the lump removed and feel that is half of the decision to be made. Any advice or opinions are welcome. Thanks for your help. I am in Naperville.

Hi Peki, sorry you have to find yourself here, but you have come to the right place for support! I will send you a private message with some information

Yes you are definitely doing the right thing waiting for 2nd opinions. Cancer doesn't grow that fast, and grade 1 is the slowest. Don't let any doctor bully you. Most people go for 2nd opinions on surgery, no matter what the surgery.
Hang in there. There are several gals from Naperville that should be popping in soon.

Good morning ladies! I have been following the Illinois snow storms by TV and am heading for home tomorrow. My sunny land vacation is over for this year and we have already booked a place for 2 months next year. One month is just not enough for me anymore! I need that sunshine.
So glad to see that most of you are doing well. I will be more visible once we get back. Hugs to you all.

Hi Illinois Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone had experience or thoughts on proton therapy for breast cancer? I have had a hard time finding much information on this topic. Thanks,
Peg

See who comes on for u Peg, I have no idea what that is--but someone should.

Peg this seems like it's still early trials (phase 2) and specific to very early stage (Stage 1) breast cancers. I would discuss this with our oncologist but it might be too early to know if this is a good treatment. Since you have ILC I would want to go with proven therapy. You're still early stage 2 you have a good chance of beating this. It's one thing to do something experimental in addition to proven treatment when your early stage and have a chance at a cure but in place of proven treatment… you really need to ask your self if you want to be someone's lab rat/beta tester.
That's my $.02
In other news: for those of you who aren't of facebook I'm in print. I'm the closing (last 8) paragraphs in this article (Sun Times Chicago). Talks about volunteering for the ACS. Of course I mentioned our team granted the gal gives me all the credit that I don't deserve. We did an amazing job raising money.
