I used biotene but still got a mouth sore at my 1st chemo. My MO had me suck on ice chips through taxotere infusion. Never got another mouth sore.

I just got back from Peoria 5 Senses Day Spa...ordered a wig. Wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated...rather anti climactic, like 1st infusion. NO TEARS!!! Yeah me!!! We will see what happens when I go next Friday to pick it up and get it trimmed etc. That should be right at day 14... Shopped a little, I EARNED SOME RETAIL THERAPY!!! Stopped for awesome homemade pie in the way home!!!
I am calling tomorrow about this rash. I thought it was getting better, but I don't think so. I will also ask about the mouth thing. It is very annoying, tonight my tongue hurts a little. I just want to be sure. We are 6 hrs from the lake house. I don't want to get there and have bigger problems.
Any suggestions on good sunscreen...I usually use SPF 30 Banana Boat Body & Scalp Spray. I think that should cover all the high points.
Thanks for all the suggestions...I will def talk to Migas or Sabrina his RN ...she is awesome!!!

Lakegirl1-I thought I'd add my 2 cents to the discussion. I also got a rash all over my face (it was hard to open my eyes), chest, stomach, etc. and my mouth was so sore it was difficult to eat. My MO prescribed the magic mouthwash and it was wonderful. It tastes funny but it numbs your mouth so you can eat. My MO took me off Taxotere because of my rash. She said I was allergic to it. She put me on Adrianmycin. Before taking it I had to have an echo doppler test because that drug can damage your heart. It was sort of lucky for me that I was put on that drug because the test showed I have a hole in my heart. So now I'm on aspirin, get tests yearly, antibiotic before dental cleaning etc. According to my cardiologist it's no biggy but she wants to see my once a year. Anyway I digress. Your MO may just adjust your dosage. As they say, everyone is different.
About picking up your wig. Losing my hair never really bothered me. When I started chemo I had it cut short and then when it started falling out, I had it buzzed. I couldn't stand the hair all over the house. I wore scarves... TLC is on line and has a nice assortment of cotton scarves which I found comfortable. www.tlcdirect.org and a nice wig I bought at Naturally Yours that looked like my natural hair.
Good luck to you. Enjoy your lake house!!!!

fgm...when I had the first Taxotere dose they had to stop and give me Benadryl and Pepcid because my tongue started to swell land began having diff swallowing. Initially, the rash was just my face, I thought steroids. However, it is now on my neck near where the port is and onto my shoulders and back. I don't want to seem like a whiner, but this just sucks!!! The mouth thing is weird too. Both my babies had thrush at one time or the other. This doesn't look like that,...who knows.
I really don't want to wear the wig, but I work in a large corp type office... Every one doesn't need to be up in my business, if you know what I mean. Everyone has an opinion..do this or that, I used to know ...they are passed or doing just fine...you will too...sometimes I want to be seen for something other than this...with hair I hope I can do that.

Lake Girl--you stopped at the Busy Corner for pie????? What kind?????thank you for calling Migas/Sabrina---the last place you want to get in trouble is far from home.. Swelling in the throat and mouth is a serious type allergic reaction---it s important to be able to distinguish a chemo side effect and a serious allergy----Didn't you have hives/rash after your breast surgery too?
Lago is dead right about avoiding sugar if you have thrush. My poor mom used to get it and she had to use that Nystatin rinse frequently... UGHHH
On Monday, there were two gals waiting to get rads that had both lost their hair from chemo, and both were wigless, but it was just starting to grow back. And the one was telling the other one that she wanted to try a new hair color, so she dabbed it on her head with a cotton ball. I couldn't believe my ears. It was coming back and she was already tinkering with it. What a hoot---

Lakegirl1,
Since you had such a strong reaction to Taxotere, the rash may be related to that. If you had a Neulasta shot the next day, it could also be that. I was allergic to it. It took 3 shots before we figured it out. By then I had hives head to toes. It took 3 months until the hives disappeared.
Any rash or hives above your shoulders is a serious reaction and needs to we watched closely. I was put on steriods and benedryl simultaneously and they barely made me comfortable. Watch this closely. May want a steroid pack and benedryl with you when you travel to the lake this weekend.

Morning ladies! What a gorgeous morning it is in central IL, nice and cool after all that heat yesterday! Lakegirl-Dr. Migas can lower your dose of Taxotere if needed, he did mine after the first infusion and yes, it is still effective at the lower dose, which was my question to him, he said he has a range he can work with and they always start out at the top and can come down if needed. Hopefully when you call today they can give you some good ideas for your ickiness now-you want to be able to enjoy the long weekend at the lake.
Have a peaceful day everyone!

Lakegirl they calculate the amount of chemo based on skin surface area. They calculate it based on height and weight. It's not an exact science so sometimes the are off and find you are getting too much. They want to cure you not kill you… so don't be concerned if the need to lower the dose. More is not always better.

This is the miracle that happens every time to those who really love; the more
they give, the more they possess of that precious nourishing love from which
flowers and children have their strength and which could help all human beings
if they would take it without doubting.

Heres something not related- I have a temperpedic bed and it needs replacing... anyone doing Sleep number or have suggestions? I have a bad lower back so need something medium-firm.

Aviva, I wanted a sleep number bed so bad. but I use the underneath for storage and the sleep number required me to lose that space, and also needed an electric outlet---But it was soooo comfortable.
I started out with a Serta, which I made them take back because it was not comfortable, and in the switch out I ended up with a Beauty rest, which cost me a about 1/3 more but I am pleased with, but it had been a long time since I purchased a mattress, and now you can't flip them over, just rotate them each time you change the sheets.....

Its such a gamble buying a mattress...glad they have return policies, how can you really tell if its good or comfortable in the store.

Aviva, we had a sleep number bed in our motorhome and absolutely loved it, planning on buying one for the house when we redo the bedroom

Aviva, that's just it. I kicked off my shoes and laid on it for about 15 minutes and thought this is the one----then got home with it and could not get a goods night sleep for a week---but they make you keep it for 30 days before you can swap it out. When I went back, I really grilled the saleman about the coils, the density, etc. and he had me lay on the two I was considering for about 30 minutes. Its hard when there are people w alking around.I was lucky though, I thought I wanted a temperpedic and went to the store about 1/2 hour before closing---my sales guy wasn't there, so they left me alone, and I laid on that bed for half an hour and decided it was not for me/ too hot.

Lake girl- I hope you catch some big fish this weekend---do you go to fish??? Or maybe waterski????
I love being on a lake early morning with the birds waking up and the sound of the lure plopping in the water.....

I saw the RN at the office. The reaction is from either decadron or Taxotere or both!!! Either way, they treat it the same, more steroids...WHAT??? I look like a 14 year old boy with bad acne!!! Anyway, they called them in and I will start in the AM. Also, NO THRUSH, just a sore, dry mouth. Things are starting to taste normal...but others are just wrong! And there is no rhyme or reason! HIVES, no way!!! I had my fair share when I was trying to deal with the staph infection...only on the TE area. BOYCOTTING HIBICLENS!!!
Also, question...how can you tell if. TE is leaking or just migrating toward your side/armpit area? The infection side where they removed the alloderm and replaced the TE feels slightly less full than the other, I think. It is hard to tell, I had large fills close together totaling about 600cc's..I was wondering if it just is diff at this point as there is no alloderm on that side?

redheaded1...why, yes it was The Busy Corner...(spell check wanted it to be Busty..LOL)...peach last night and brought French Silk home for my girls...guess who ate it!!
I will be all over coloring my stubble when it comes back! I don't care if others won't see it, I will!!! I don't want to see gray or dirty blond!!! I think that it's dirty blond...it has been so long since I have seen my real color...I really don't know!!! LOL!!! It will be BLOND!!!

Lakegirl1 I can specifically answer your question but I too thought my TEs and implant on the left was migrating to the armpit. I'm not sure what your surgery was but in my case I had a radical modified on the left side but the right was just a simple (total) MX. Therefore the right side did have less tissue removed (no facia and only 4 nodes). Also we are not symmetrical so your rib cage may be making things a little different. So especially in the TE phase things won't look 100%. Much of that can be fixed at the exchange. I would watch that TE closely. If you think it's getting smaller call your PS and have him look. So glad you don't have thrush but I would use the biotene for dry mouth daily. It will help. Dry mouth isn't good for the gums either.
As far as steriods, Well I found that they filled my face out, and that means all the wrinkles and sagging was no more. Granted I was 49 when I was on chemo. Hopefully the zits will go away soon.

Hi Catey! was the pump noisy? I think it might be a good solution since it can be adjusted at will...and not as hot as temperpedic. I sit up in bed for awhile watching tv at night, so it got soft. And they cant be turned.

Oh Lakegirl....Busy Corner pie!!! I love the rhubarb and the lemon meringue! Yum. There isn't better pie place anywhere in the area! Those steroids will fix you right up! Hopefully you will have a good weekend at the lake. My significant other is taking our boat out fishing tomorrow but I am golfing in a ladies Memorial Day golf outing. I hope he catches some fish because they are so good to eat!!! Also, I had many taste issues while on chemo. I still can't stand the smell of Chinese or Asian food and definitely can't eat it and it used to be one of my favorites.
Great quote, Jackie! There is alot to say about inner peace! :-)
I wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Well, picked up the meds...what do you know...Cleocin-T...This medication is used to treat acne. I guess I am a 14 year old boy!!!

Lakegirl by the time they got through with me I had the estradiol levels of a prepubescent male. You're doing better than am

Seriously...this is insult to injury or salt in the wound...however you want to look at it!!!
Does anyone else see the irony in this??? Last night I was waiting for the Nair on my kegs to activate, while I am waiting with baited breath for my hair to fall out after my 1st chemo infusion???
LOL..the things I find to amuse myself in all of this ....

LOL! If we can't laugh at our situations we will just cry and people look at you funny when we do that
Enjoy your lake, golfing, whatever plans you have ladies this weekend!

Use your Sun screen Lake girl----some of those Antibiotics make you burn..... They said the radiation might make me not have hair in my armpit.....Please, let there be one good thing (besides killing the c-cells) hat comes of this . A good SE, wouldn't that be amazing...
I am still weeping under my boob, and now the axilla where they did the SLN has opened too. I am now sporting a crazy fishnet tube top that comes off a roller in their office.with a diaper type pad tucked in to cushion the axilla.
Happy Golfing RitaJean--hope you get a hole in one...
Illinois Lady---I really needed to read your quote today, it may just be my mantra till my skin heals.....they are talking about putting a dot of Silverdene crème on me to see if I break out ( I have a Sulfa allergy, so its contraindicated) I think they are all getting weary of my skin issues, muich like me.
Last thing I need is hives on top of this.......

Redheaded1 I don't know if it was surgery on the nodes, chemo or chemo-pause but I swear I only have 5 hairs under each armpit now. I need glasses to see them otherwise I would never shave. I didn't have rads.

I lost every hair, every where. All came back save for the underarms. I've tried to adjust since 2008....and I think I'm there.
Blessings
Jackie

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and
refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not
rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to
stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully,
do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never; in a word to let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is to be my
symphony.

Who gives himself with his alms feeds
three,--
Himself, his hungering neighbor, and me.
