Well, the girls beat me to telling you about the perfect end to my day! :)

Had a very rough day at work. After I finally got home; DH & I met up with 4 other couples and had a wonderful Italian dinner and some wine we've never had before - a mix of a melot & cabernet. It was devine. Came home early, I fired up Skype and got to talk to Catherine, Melanie and Alyson!

So, the Commando part of my name comes from DH's military unit; the "Barbie" part is because no one sees me without "hair and makeup. " But as the girls can attest, we all chatted with me in my jammies and freshly scrubed face:) A GREAT time was had by all!

I read where we can have 9 people on a chat at one time. So girls, download Skype and we'll have a good ole fashioned pajama party real soon.

So, finally, off to bed! Thinking of you all!

    Hello everyone;

I had my 1st chemo two weeks ago with  NO side effects, thank goodness, but this past week developed an infection in my scar.  Even my breast was red.  Now I'm on IV three times a day at my local hospital and things are clearing up.  Losing my hair now, and kind of at an impass, what the hell do I do??  I'm treating it so gently, but I know it won't be long.  I have a wig in the house and I'm in a good frame of mind.  Now I'm scared to get in the shower and wash it, because I'm sure it will all go at once!!  I know my hubby would shave it off for me, but I think I'm procrastinating.  Help!!!!!!!  Five more chemos to go and hopefully this infection won't set me back.  Next on March 19th.

Eh, Marsha, Skype is free... you just download and install the last version available.  It works even without a webcam, as far as the phone part goes... you see those who have a camera, we just would not see you until you install one (very cheap these days... around 25-30$??).

Alyson called me last night, that was great... here we were: Alyson at home the NEXT day around diner time, and me, the day before, about to go to bed... Alyson you looked terrific, good colors and nice looking curls...

Carynn and Leah are on line, too... it is so nice to even simply do instant messaging...

Hillary, I'll pm you my skype name.  You can see whether people are around or not (there is an on-line status icon -- green, away, unavailable, etc.).  It is so easy to do... you'll love it.

Melanie, what a lovely property you live in... how far are you "from town"? I love your pics in Nashville... what fun!  Hope your biopsy will be behind you soon... what a bummer these rude and insensitive people...

Twink did you get the snow in Dallas?

Well, I can't stay much longer... Toby is waiting...

Special hugs for the new ladies posting here... hang in there and try to make your chemo moments as pleasant as possible (books, music, etc.) since a year later it becomes a "not so bad memories, after all", as we were realizing with Carynn last night... now it is easier said than done, and easier with no young children to care for during those long weeks.

    Love to all,

    Catherine

For the last year you have been my real support network. Now it is just so wonderful to be able to see you and say hi. Last night I spent the evening smiling to myself. Thank you

Hillary I tried to contact you but not sure if I got the correct skype name. Will PM you.

    Have a great weekend

I will set up Skype tomorrow.  I have a cam at work but I rarely use it so I think I'll bring it home so we can see each other.  I'll PM my info once I get set up.

DH is off to see a hockey game tomorrow at Madison Sq Gardens... his first at that venue.  I'll be organizing my home office, paying bills, tidying... the fun stuff.  My son's girlfriend hosted a surprise birthday party for my firstborn.  We were out earlier tonight to celebrate... here are a few pics of my kids and I... (note, chemo-curls are gone)... I'm trying to make the pics smaller but something's not right...

    Hi all!

Hey Marsha! Skype is free. Cant wait til you have it downloaded too! :)

Hillary - Got your PM, we'll chat SOON!

Catherine - So nice to see you, DH & Mr. Famous  - Toby! And you are so right, what a difference a year makes. :)

Alyson - It was nice looking into the future with you. Hehehe ;) If my math is correct, I think there's a 20 hour time difference between Arizona and New Zealand.

Twink - What great pix! Thanks so much for sharing. You sure do have a good looking family; and the apples didn't fall far from the tree. :) They all resemble you, especially your daughters.

Phyl! Nice to see you. Daytona issues?

Melanie - I'll send you a message but I talked it over with DH and November might be better. With the Phoenix race being a night race, we'd only be home 2 days before taking off again. :( I'll keep you posted. BTW...checked out the Omni, that's definitely doable for us.

Marianne - We are a year ahead of you having started in February '07. It's good that your side effects are gentle. Sending warm wishes that they stay that way! I think everyone will tell you that losing the hair is probably the hardest part. We were a good cross section as some of us wore wigs, others scarves, and some just went "au natural." We all lost / got rid of the hair between 10-17 days after the first tx. I thought I'd be mortified, but having DH shave it was empowering and not near as bad as I thought. Contact your local American Cancer Society. They will provide you with between 1-3 very nice wigs at no charge. Hope you kick that infection soon and best wishes to you during tx.

Ok girls, race day, time to assume the position. Talk to you soon!

Melanie, I'm going to try and arrange my schedule to be there the week you are (first of April).  I'm there the week before too and that can't be changed since the boss has meetings set up that week.

Skype... I downloaded it this evening.  Set up Catherine and Alyson but can't find usernames for the rest of you.  Please PM me.

Leah, are you still up.  Just got your PM.  Cell phone has been dead since early yesterday.  I'll call tomorrow from work.  Miss you girl.

Spring is in the air... I love it!

Awesome pics Twink!  Your hair looks great.  I thnk I'm gonna get the chemo curls cut off too.  Seems to be just on the ends, coming in now straight.

Phyl, I wondered what happened to you!  You didn't get arrested did you???  LOL

    Melanie, when is your biopsy?

    Leah, sent you a PM

Let me just say that Anne Murray is old too!!!  At least she remembered all the songs though.  LOL  I think she has had that same haircut for 50 years.  Her band was fairly young.

    Morning all

Tried to send a skype message to Melanie but sent it to Hillary!!!!!  I am having a scan this afternoon so will see what they say. Can't see the doc again until Monday whic is a bit annoying.

I don't think there is any chance of me being able to cut off my curls, always had curly hair but you should see it now, it seems to be getting curlier.

Must get off to my course which is why I am sitting around on the computer at present.

Marsha, I didn't realise that Ann Murray was still going!

    Hi girls!

Alyson – Sending good wishes for your upcoming scans. And I think your hair looks great!

Marsha- I didn’t know you were going to see Anne Murray. I didn’t know she was still around either. Was it fairly entertaining? I’m waiting for the full report on CDB. :)

Thinking of you all and wishing you a great evening. TTUL!

    Hi all

You will or should be in bed by now, well Caryn might still be up. I had my scan at 4.00 this afternoon and the onc has just rung to say all was well and that it was 'just' lymphoedema arouns the scar area. I have to get to the LE clinic to get some massage to help drain the area. Thought I would have to wait until next week to get the results. I am actually going to have a little glass of something with my dinner.

Hope every who is having tests has a similar result.

    Alyson,

Have a BIG glass of something with your dinner!  That is good news! Though I know lymphedema is another thing we all fear, that seems so less threatening that any reoccurrence.

I will be interested in what the massage was like. Have read a lot about it, but never had a real-life report.

    Hope everyone else is well...

yippee Alyson for LE!!  Well like Leah said, I'm sure LE is no fun, but compared to the alternative??  Sounds like a good dx to me.  So relieved for you.

Yes, Carynn, Anne Murray is still around.  Not very entertaining, too worried she was gonna topple off those 4 inch heels she had on.  hahaha  Next on my agenda is Charo!!  Another venue in town has her scheduled in a couple of weeks and my friend Chip, who normally MC's for them, is doing the next show at the theatre so he gave them my name.  $150 just to announce her?  Yep I'm there!  LOL  She's got to be old too right?  Hubby says she plays a mean guitar though!  Haven't got the call for Charlie Daniels yet, maybe he likes his clothes wrinkled? ha

    Hey everyone, Marsha

    Update;

Went to my BS today.  He did an us.  Could not find the masses.  He called the Radiologist.  They told me to come in right away.  I told them I could not as I had a meeting at the AR Children's Hosp to discuss this year's fundraising.  They said come in when I finished and they would work me in.

Get there and they sit me down to start an IV.  NO thanks.  I will do this with a local.  CT guided core biopsy of the large mass only.  Mass was very firm, so this is really "iffy".  Radiologist said if it comes back negative, they will redo the biopsy.  I told him to just give it to me straight.  I can handle this.  He says it could be scar tissue...or not.  I figure I will have the results tomorrow.

Meeting friends and just hang out this evening.

Went back and read some of the posts.

Alyson;  So glad everything was clear.  I know that lymphedema is scary, but manageable.  Just be sure to follow their instructions.  Very important stuff.

Marsha;  I bet Charo would be a blast!

Carynn;  hmmm...might be more fun to just skip Phoenix  Wink  November should work also.

Twink;  If you can't work out your Dallas schedule at least you will be close enough to me that we will get together for sure.

Catherine;  Even though my house looks really rural, we are about 1 mile from town...even though it is small town.

    Good thoughts all around...

sweet Melanie.... I hope very very sincerely that it is scar tissue...

I love living in the country side, I did for years (my dad, among other things, was a farmer when we were kids)... so I was just curious but not "apprehensive" that you were "in the middle of nowhere"... :-)

    Do you have Skype?

Well, thinking of you and sending highly positively charged thoughts...

Onc's office called about 4:30 and said the radiologist insists on redoing the biopsy.  It did come back neg for ca...whew, but he said he did not trust the sample he got as the needle bent and therefore did not get as much of a section that he wanted.  I wish he would have went back in right there.  I just don't understand that part.  I am very optimistic since this first test was benign.  I must admit that it has been an apprehensive time because the radiologist was so hard to "read".

Thanks so much for thinking of me...

Oh Melanie, how wonderful.  I, too, am chanting scar tissue.

That is what my oncologist was telling me in defense of not doing scans etc.  He said "It will just scare you to death".  However, I still think I would rather be safe than sorry.  But for now I am an ostrich with my head in the sand. LOL  But so happy for you, Mel.

You are such a sweet, generous, down to earth person and you deserve only the best.  Love you.

Well, I am in Houston on my DD computer.  I went to what I called the "granite farm" today with my decorator.  Oh wow!!  There was some awesome granite there.  Just beautiful.  I ended up picking one that was a little different from what I picked in the showroom in Victoria.  That one looked a little busy for my taste.  I got one that is in the same color family, but just not quite so busy.  The young man there was so helpful.  It was a nice experience.  It is probably going to be another two or three weeks before they finish.  Of course we doubled the job and the budget by adding the granite and knocking down my elevated bar for one that is the height as the rest of the cabinets.  But it will be much nicer.

I am here visiting with my granddaughter, who is home from the University of North Carolina.  We are still all reeling from the murder of that precious girl, who was the student body president.  What a shame.  The guy that killed her had a warrant out for his arrest on a probation violation and it was sent to the wrong court by mistake.  He should have been in jail.  Just makes us all sick.

Spring has sprung here in South Texas.  We just had a couple of little cool snaps, but they are only lasting about a day or so now.

I will be returning to Victoria on Sat. evening and Sun and Mon will be yard days.  Really had a lot of work to do there.

I hope everyone is doing well.  Warm wishes to all.  I haven't downloaded Skype yet, but it may be on this computer.  I will ask my daughter when she comes back from the store.  Love all you guys.  Take care.  Love Sammie Kay

Hi all...Melanie, what a relief!   I don't understand why he didn't try for a better sample either.

I am off to Pittsburgh this morning for DD's dance competiton.   We will leave around lunchtime.   And a busy weekend.

So nice to hear it is spring somewhere, Sammie Kaye.   There is still 8 inches of snow in my yard.  But then, I live in a mountainous hollow and we do not get the afternoon sun very long.   I did notice my crocuses poking up in the flower beds.

Well...I am off to pack and get ready to go.   Hope you all have a great weekend.  Don't have a laptop, so will be out of touch.

    Love you all,

Hey...where is everyone?  Hopefully enjoying a wonderful weekend!

Sammie;  I too am just stunned at the senselessness.  It is so scary what our world is becoming.  I wonder if there is any turning back the craziness.  On a more pleasant note...I am looking forward to being in Dallas during the spring.  I love the bluebonnets that bloom along the interstate.

Twink;  Do you know your schedule yet?  Will I see you in Dallas?  I arrive the 3rd.  Will be there till the 6th.  If you are there on Saturday, plan on a party at Pete's Dueling Piano Bar!

Marsha;  I have been intending on calling.  Just had so much going on this past week.  I want to talk to you.

Catherine;  Can't wait to get a chance to converse on skype.  DH's car show was actually his race car.  It was delayed until today and I am pretty sure he won.  It won't be announced until later.

Terry;  Hope your DD kicked some tutu at her competition!

Leah;  Thinking of you...have you been on skype lately?

Carynn;  recorded the race and just finished skipping over most of it to see the finish.  I bet you watched!

My biop redux will be Tuesday morning...8am.  We are gathering with friends tomorrow evening for St. Paddy's day.  I will go very lightly on the libations.  Hmmmm....come to think of it, maybe I should indulge...lol.

    Time to hit the sack!

    For you northern gals...goodnight...

    love to all...
