MrsM, thanks for the update!  Interesting about Derek and Maks.  I wonder if the former couldn't line up a cushier gig, and if the latter was sick of less-than-primo partners.  Maybe it's just drama to build up the anticipation.  Got us talking about it already LOL.

Seriously? March 16th? That's just around the corner!!!

I knew that Maks was leaving... apparently he's had a bunch of other gigs (hosting a TV show in Russia, for one) for some time now. And his remarks last season that "HE" was the reason that DWTS was so successful probably didn't help his cause. But I like his brother Val even better, so adios, Maks.

And Derek made a movie ("Cobu") that will not be released until July 2013, so maybe he's waiting til that comes out to see if his star power goes up and other offers come in.

Sister (and ex-DWTS dancer) Julianne is doing really well these days since leaving the show.

    Thanks, TheDivineMrsM!!!

It also seems Chelsea Hightower, dancing pro, isn't coming back this season.  If you look at any of my previous comments on her, you'll know for some reason I've never cared for her.

Here are a few celebrities that are rumoured to be on the upcoming season of DWTS:

Wynonna Judd-I sort of find that hard to believe, seems I've heard her name pop up before, but we'll see.

Kellie Pickler - she was an American Idol contestant who's had a few country music hits.

Aly Raisman - another Olympic gold medal gymnast (!)  If it's true, will Derek be her partner?

Okay, I just saw an online article, and I'm really excited:  Dorothy Hamill, Olympic gold medal skater, is one of the contestants!  I've always loved her!  Wow, who will she be paired with???? And the others were announced:

Olympic gold-medal gymnast Aly Raisman, Wynonna Judd (so it WAS true),   Andy Dick (..........), Jacoby Jones-a Baltimore Ravens football player,    Victor Ortiz-boxing champ,  Kellie Pickler, D L Hughley-comic,  Ingo Rademacher-from General Hospital,   Lisa Vanderpump from "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

I don't know who a bunch of these people are!  But DWTS apparently has a formula that includes Olympic medalists, soap opera star and football players!

Oh no!  Dorothy H. is going to be the "hot mess" in the group... you know, like Tatum O'Neal... I read that she is having substance abuse problems, for years.  And she was crying when they did the reveal on GMA, and no one was even talking to her... she was just crying.

    Yikes!  Worried.

Ha, ha, bobo, I'm not surprised to hear that about Dororthy.  Those middle aged gals always bring on the drama.  I loved Mellisa Rycroft last year always wanting to bring her A game and kick Shawn's butt...and eventually she did!

Last year's DWTS is a blur!  I always want Derek to win.  I know he is not a star.  But he is the best!  I was happy for Tony, though.

Thank you chabba!  It's going on my calendar right now :)

I just have to say I don't have any particular attachment to anyone they chose... however, I still remember clearly how much  I loved Billie Ray Cyrus -- and I never knew about him before, and wouldn't be predisposed to like him -- but he was so afraid, and so brave, you know, dancing blind with fear, that I just loved him!  Anything can happen with DWTS.

Ha, ha, bobogirl, you're the first person I knew to like Billy Ray as a DWTS contestant!  lol, but I respect your opinion!

badger, oooooo, thanks for the list of pairings!  I simply don't know some of these celebs. As usual, Derek & Mark with their partners will be the ones to watch.  I hope the new professional dancers are a good addition.  I'll miss Peta, she was so incredibly exotic looking and brought some amazing dances to the floor.  Maks, meh, I grew tired of him.

Mrs. M!  I didn't like Billie Ray -- I loved him!  He was blind with fear.  It was so moving!  I know he is gross otherwise.  That's just how it happens.

Sorely missing Peta already.  She is a wonder.  Mark I have never liked.  I know one of his parents is British, but I feel he slips in and out of a pretend British accent.  He irritates me.

Maks was trying to write his own story line, wasn't he?  I feel he thought he was actually on The Bachelor!

Can't wait... five days after BS meeting... something to look forward to!

Over the past seasons skaters and gymnasts have done very well. I suspect they will be amoung the top contenders again this year. Don't really know much of anything about the rest oc the celeb's.

The new season on Monday will be here soon!  I just came across an interesting article about the money the stars get for the season which I found interesting:

Can you tell me what the stars are paid for being a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars”? Also, what sort of compensation do the professional dancers receive and is there any bonus for how they finish?

    —N. Kipp, East Moline, Ill.

Neither the producers of “Dancing With the Stars” nor ABC executives have released any information on how much the participants of the hit dance competition get compensated. But two cases involving contestants that have gone to court—Shawn Johnson, when she was a minor and her contract had to be approved by a judge, and Heather Mills, during her divorce from Paul McCartney— have disclosed some salary information.

The initial amount guaranteed in Johnson’s case was $125,000, but that contract also includes the stipulation to train for a minimum of 20 hours per week, which begins several weeks prior to the season premiere.

If a celeb makes it to weeks three and four, they get an additional $10,000. For weeks five to seven, an additional $20,000 is added. Thirty thousand dollars are added for weeks eight to nine, and the stars that make it to the last two weeks earn an additional $50,000. That brings the total to a possible $365,000 for those lucky and talented enough to make it to the finale.

The salaries for the professional dancers are much less. It was once reported that the pros made $1,600 per episode in the early days of “DWTS,” but now they can earn as much as $5,200, depending on their popularity.

MrsM, that is interesting, wondered about that myself.  Figured celebs would pull in big bucks but the disparity with the pros is pretty wide.  Still, 5200 x 11 weeks is more than I make in a year!  And if they work DWTS twice a year, it's into six figures.

Now, what do you suppose ABC charges for a 30-second commercial? Undecided
