Ohhhhhhhh dawny, I still have tops with shoulder pads in my closet.  Gonna get them out and give them away.  No, then some other poor sister will get BC so I guess, oh, I know, just cut the pads out and throw them away.

Hi,  Hope it was not my bell bottom jeans. Maybe I could use some of those shoulder pads now but not on my shoulders.   SharonH

I think I got cancer because I was bored (insurance job) and stressed out (dated a lot of jerks).

My new plan is to not be bored & not date jerks.  We'll see how that works out for me.

Just had my 6 month mammo.  So far, so good!  Still a work in progress, though.

Someone mentioned "Nair" hair removel cream - I actually brushed my teeth with that one time, thinking it was tooth paste! It tastes absolutely vile, that must be why I have BC!

It's gotta be from drinking tap water.

This thread is great! How did I just find it?

My theory is it's from inhaling all of those chemicals from that super bubble stuff that came out of a metal tube. Does anyone remember that? You would squeeze it out and wad it up on the end of a little straw like a coffee stirrer to blow it into a bubble. I'm pretty sure it was polyvinyl acetate. Nothing like giving noxious chemicals to kids. Some of my friends would CHEW it like bubble gum. Wonder what kind of cancer they got?? Criminy.

Eating Pop-Tarts as a child, smelling gas fumes, hair dye, plastic, lack of sun.

I know we're just being silly here but when I was first diagnosed, I discovered that the U.S. doesn't have the highest rates of BC in the world. We are in the middle of the pack. The top three highest are:

    Iceland

    Denmark

    Belgium

So, what do these countries have in common? Not a lot of obesity. They eat relatively natural diets. They do smoke and drink a lot of alcohol and coffee.

The lowest rates are in Japan, with less than half the incidence of the next highest country. The key to this is figuring out what sets them apart? They do eat carbs! LOL. Lots of fish, veggies, rice, green tea. But, most women AVOID the sun!

    What gives?

Here's the list of top 25 countries by incidence. Fascinating stuff.

Oh yeah, smelling gas fumes.  I used to love to hang out in the garage when dad was putting the gas in the lawnmower.  That could have done it.

Nope, not gas fumes. I hated them, still do, and get mildly queasy in gas stations.

Housework. Patoo said it and she knows.

The gas use to smell soooo good. I think the rubber cement we used in the "older grades" , grades  4-6 in elementary school might be the culprit.. Making bouncy balls out of it during class instead of paying attention. I'm suprised I didn't get cancer soonerSurprised

Heh heh...rubber cement.  Yes, that was good.  We used to have mimeographs when I was in school...I loved getting those off the press!

Patriotic mentioned hair dye...that could be the culprit.  I started going grey at 20, so I've been dyeing my hair ever since.  That can't be good for me!

Speaking of glue... It was the Elmer's Glue that we smeared on our skin and let it dry and then peeled it off our skin...

I think it was the mystery "goo" in the center of the Hostess Twinkies...I alway wondered what that stuff was, but I ate them anyway.

Did someone already mention licking stamps? Really? When was the last time anyone used a stamp that even peeled off? Didn't George Costanza's fiancée die from licking stamps? I bet it was those stamps and the envelopes too!

I chewed that stuff too.  I loved licking stamps and envelopes.  Couldn't wait to go gas up the car.  Hostess Twinkies, Hostess Cupcakes, are Devil Dogs also by Hostess?  Hmmmmm, maybe we need to check into the Hostess company!

Someone mentioned Kool Aid.   My mom made us popsicles out of Kool Aid...

Anyone old enough to rember ink wells in school?   The kid behind me would "paint" my hair with the ink.    Or how about those crinolin petti coats and poodle skirts or saddle shoes...

Garter belts!  Remember when those things used to snap and you'd have to slide up your dress and fix it.  What's a girl to do when a young boy is watching her?  Ahh...the stress of those garter belts snapping...That's it!
