Renee51 - I had braces too....hmmmm...there has to be a correlation! But I hear you about the 'excess' radiation. I guess I just attributed it all to 'that-won't-happen-to-me' mode. Not always a good idea......

I use to make fun, and tell everyone I should be able to glow in the dark... Sheesh, somehow I'm not feeling the humorous side so much anymore...

I think I'll go to the airport and set off all their xray body scanners!!! LOL!

And at least when you get stitches that dissolve they go elsewhere,  but when they are in your mouth  and dissolve they go down your throat having to pass by your breast to get to the colon. How about that!  Maybe they choked off some cells rendering them malignant.

Honestly, I think it was the birth control bills I was on for forever.  I think the only time I was off was when I had my kids.  Years and years of them.  I was even on them at time of diagnosis.  They said I could stay on them until 52.  Pffffft - don't believe them.  Tell your kids, granddaughters no more than five years on those things.  That's my gut feeling anyway.

Sorry Nancy, can't be birth control pills.  That makes too much sense.  Most likely it's, yeah I'm back again to that, housework!

I am an African-American woman living in Seattle. When they checked my vit D, it was a 7. I suspect lack of this vitamin over about an 18 year period had something to do with it since vitamin D is so strongly linked to preventing BC.

Hi traveladdie.  Sorry to meet up with you on these boards but it's a great place for information.  This particular thread is really tongue-in-cheek, a place to laugh at ourselves to help us through the journey.  Hopefully you are on some of the other threads to help you also through the maze of information.  Vit D at 7 - that's seriously low.  They 'think' around 30 is "normal" but that is low for those of us diagnosed,  Please check out the Vit D threads for more information and I hope your docs are supplementing you to get you up.  Don't hesitate to PM me if you need.

    Blessings.

Repetitive clichés..... the use of them over the years, obviously weakened our abilities; thereby predisposing us to BC! And I'm thinking I ate a couple stitches, blah - even though not intentionally.

I hear you about the Birth Control pills though... I've always considered it high on my investigative list. Hmmmm... need to look into that again.

And yet another......wait for it........flouride! Yeppers, we never stood a chance!

But kathec, I had 2 colonoscopies in the last 8 months - had to drink that foul stuff, twice, and then have them scope and snip those rogue BC cells out of my colon!  Don't be afraid, it's for your health.

at the beach soaking in Vit D!  Protected my rad side...should cook any  c out of there...but last night I realized I inhaled campfire smoke around the fire ring....oh and the torched harsh mellows for s'mores ...my gosh I've been doing that for over 5X years...got to be the smoke & s'mores!

It couldn't be the s'mores - they have chocolate in them. I'm convinced that now that dark chocolate has  been shown to be healthy for your heart, new research will soon show that all chocolate kills cancer.

I don't know... I think you may be onto something with the s'mores, but of course Leah's right - not the chocolate part.  Apparently burnt foods contain a chemical known as benzopyrene, which is a known carcinogen. So apparently burnt toast and marshmallows could be dangerous... So it must have been all those burnt marshmallows I ingested way back in my Girl Scout days!

Or, maybe it was the girl scout cookies?  Need to find out because they still sell them and many have stashes in the freezer.

Will be off the boards for a week so all have fun and watch out...

I absolutely know for certain that eating pancakes with REAL maple syrup gave me my BC! After all, the artificial lovely brown goop that was Mrs. Butterworths or Aunt Jemima was practically mandatory for all of us, no? So, when I began using REAL maple syrup, my breast protested and gave me a fit and made calcifications to let me know I must NEVER eat the real stuff! NEVER EVER! Artificial stuff preserved my body parts and now it all went to hell cause I switched to REAL FOOD! HA!

Either that or it was the antenna on my roof as a kid sending rays from space directly to my breast as I slept! Yup, could be that.

The DebbieDowner in me wants to say that my recent thoughts are zeroed in on SOY, but what a downer. (my apologies)

So, to force myself to be more festive and play along, I am leaning towards that great plastic baby doll hair smell that came with all dolls made circa 1973. I still love that smell, but I'm pretty sure it leads to BC.  Either that, or, working way too many hours at my large computer monitor. Yeah, that's it.

I remember when they put the polio vaccine drops on the sugar cubes and we ate them.

I'm sure it's all the hot dogs that I ate in my youth. Or the Diet Cherry Coke that I sucked down. Or the fact that I hated bras and went braless whenever I could.  Or the loud rock music I listened to.

But definitely the trucks with the mosquito spray.  Pure poison.

glennie - I remember taking those polio vaccine sugar cubes, too!  (Sure beats a shot when you're a little kid.)  And cherry cokes from a soda fountain, not a bottle or a can.  (Or maybe it was the grease from the bazillion french fries I ingested back then?)  No trucks with mosquito spray, but plenty of exposure to crop dusting planes and whatever in the world they were saturating the farmland around my home town with...

    Shocked

I thought it was a great way to get a vaccine and didn't understand why they ALL weren't like that!

French Fries too,,, tons of them. RC cola. Red meat. Fried chicken.

I forgot the birth control pills,,, OH and never having children. I'm sure that's why I got it.

How 'bout living in a Los Angeles suburb in the 50s.  Smog so thick it burned my lungs, throat, and eyes.  Those were the days!

Not so sure about not wearing a bra---I wore one even when I didn't need to.  Guess I still do sometimes.

but I could sure use a fountain cherry coke right now!

Actually I think I got it backwards. I think wearing a bra causes cancer,, but if that's true, my chances of not getting it should have been better.  SillyHeart

LA smog in the 50's,,, YIKES!!

Now here's one for our research:  Bending over the bathtub giving toddlers a bath.  I think I did that for about 8 years straight since my kids were spaced "just right."  Then scrubbing the ring around the collar tub.  Oh, that just might be the cause of my long-time back ache.  And my knees and hips.  Jan

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here. I came across this topic and needed to respond. I had polycystic ovaries and had the worst painful periods ever and then months would go by without getting them. I'm sure that my out of control hormones had a lot to do with getting bc. Thats my opinion.   Thanks.
