I know that someone has already asked this question but I can't find it in the search site. Does it matter when you take Tamoxifen, I have been taking it at night. My pharmacist says night and my oncol. says it doesn't matter. I would rather take it during the day if possible.

I was told it doesn't matter when you take it.....some of the gals have a split dose 10mg in the AM and 10 in the PM.

I take mine at 8 each night.  Hope this helps!

Hi all - So much reading to do to catch up since Friday.  Sorry as I am back to work in an Elementary school with 454 students and only 2 secretaries - so much to do - so I can't respond individually.  Best prayers and well wishes for surgeries, results, washer/dryers and sleep!  Went to Dr. last night about my fall.  She doesn't think I broke any ribs because pain would stay same or worsen.  Wrong symptoms for blood clot (thank God). So I am now on muscle relaxer and naproxin for the muscle spasms I am having.  The spasms are less frequent and less painful.  All in all good news.  HAve a great week all.

Helena, just treat it as a negative and Diane, you do the same thing, enjoy your vacation.  All this worrying causes further stress on our bodies, which in itself can up those free radicals that may be floating around.  And unless there is actually something conclusive to worry about, it may all be needlessly harmful.  Convince yourselves that results are negative or even if not, that you will deal with it later, and then try to get immersed in something totally unrelated to breast cancer.  Easier said than done I know.  Keeping fingers crossed for both of you.

One good thing I can now report is that all of a sudden, in the past few days, my hot flashes have all but disappeared.  I keep getting the aura that comes beforehand, but then, nothing follows, kind of like the PMS feelings I still occasionally get, but then, no period.  I don't think it's related to my tamoxibreak because I've been back on it for 3 weeks.  This is great, because they were making me crazy!

Patti, did you end up taking that college trip?

Diane - enjoy that holiday - sounds wonderful - can't wait to see the pics.

Patti - wondering whether you took the trip or not.  Take care.

Rose - you are right - they weren't a positive - I'll take that.  Fantastic news on the hot flashes woohooooo!!!!

Diane 63 - Hi,  I'm one of those who take 10mg both morning and night - so far so good.  :)

Chelev - yeah would just like the medical fraternity to just give me a straight answer for once, but anyway I'll take the glass half full and put the rest of the crap in my denial crate.  Good luck with the sleep - it is soo important isn't it.  :)

Rach - where is that stupid washer man!!!  You're going to be spending the rest of week washing not to mention being down to the really daggy end of the wardrobe  - take care of those special fingers. xx

Mary - keep on counting them down - and well done you sexy mamma!!!  Boy you guys rock on the mojo lately LOL

BC org emailed me to complete a survey for them ... makes me feel like perhaps I am posting too much ... anyway thought I would post about that ... ha.

Kari - you look like you had a great time on holidays - you are so fit woman  :)

    Have a great day/night everyone.

big hugs (happy face this time)

PattiB i missed it- did you go on the trip to take daughter to school?

I musta been on crack yesterday, washer dryer man comes Wednesday (tomorrow)  today was haircolor and taking pics with my kid I hope I can use for nursery school application.

Just passin through, seeing as everything is in order here :)  Actually, its a really really really good day.  My kid said "MAMA" today clearly BUT its not like he knew what he was saying.  Still amazingly cool.  Then my colorist told me he's been reading up on all the hair issues chemo patients have growing in, he's really getting serious about helping sort out coloring issues for cancer patients.  I had pressed him really hard during RADS, and then I gave up, thinking he was grossed out by all the cancer stuff.  Now he's taking the ball and running with it, totally made my day- again.  Then I stopped by the Halloween store and they were REALLY nice and REALLY helpful, I had seen a hat that was good for Yogi Bear, and they helped me with the make up choices, and I saw the mascot costume and took pictures to help me do the make up, and I even found a Ranger's hat that will be perfect for the nanny or if a friend shows up.  I am going to decorate the door to look like a Ranger's Station at Jellystone Park... well you get the idea... then i learned that my stylist is going to start this amazing hair care line (which will replace the product I am so pissed off was discontinued) that will be refillable on a machine you can run with energy from a pedal bike... then I come to this B'O'T thread and find everyone is doing really well (considering).  I feel like playing freakin lotto.

Not to mention the weather rocks.

    Happy :)

    - oh and if anyone wants to participate in this chemo-hair coloring stuff, I put up a web site for my colorist http://www.JosephMullenColor.com

He used to be the head teacher for colorists at Bumble and Bumble, he does the makeover colors for Make Me a Supermodel and She's Got the Look, models for all the major fashion mags etc... and he's going to figure out how to take care of chemo hair!  Yeah!

Sounds like everyone is doing good.  Helena, this may be offensive, but remember I was BRCA2+ and this was the attitude I used. You could always get a hysterectomy and ask the surgeon for a tummy tuck as well, maybe he will throw it in for free. LOL That is what I said, or my other statement was, this is my future boobs, if I have recurrence, I will do double mast w/flap recon and a tummy tuck, then I will be 42 with the body of a 21 year old.

Again I apologize if I offeneded anyone, but these are statements I made about myself to make light of my situation.

Rach tomorrow you can do all your laundry!!!!! Have fun, hopefully you will be first on the list and the repair man will get there early!!!!

    Have a great night

eh I will believe the machine will be fixed when and if it's fixed, I will believe the repairman will show up when he does etc... the nanny was right to push me to schlep the laundry to community laundry room on Sunday, so the kids got clean clothes for while...

OK now I need some help with cooking... the one nanny cooked up some pears and peaches in a way that made them soft and attractive and tasty, and my kid gobbled them up. I wasn't watching.  The other nanny boiled the same fruits and left it on the stove.  I have tried all I know to fix up the second "compote" but the kid aint having none of it, and I don't blame him.  I don't let them add sugar- so unless the first nanny did that on the sly, that's not it.  Anyone? :)

    • Good Morning all. Interesting night while I was sleeping. Vivvy love the repairman. Only thing is, I never get to opportunity to call one, hubby can do it all. The only time I even get to take car to mechanic is for State of Pa inspection. Of course the car is only just over a year old and has rust spots, so maybe it has to go back to the dealer. Any hot auto repair men?????
    • Today and tomorrow and then we have a 4 day weekend!!!! The first week is always the hardest. We have 5 new students. One who throws temper tantrums, a deaf student, a non verbal student, one we knew from the other class in the building, and one who is high functioning, but has a few behavoirs. Next week we will settle into our routine.
    • Have a great day and good luck Rachel!!!!!!!

Gosh Mary, your post is so totally perfect and with the little dots and everything- how did you do that?  Very teacher- like!!!! :D

OK so they just called at 815am as they are supposed to to tell me what time the repairman is coming, but they first said 10:30-1:30.  Usually they give a 2 hour window, so I asked for that.  He gruffly put me on hold, came back and said 11-1pm.  I started to ask if they could come at 11:30-1:30 instead so I could get my kid to the doc at 11am, but he cut me off and repeated YOUR APPOINTMENT IS 11-1am MA'AM.  Oh yeah, the MA'AM thing.  Bastard.  So I will wait half an hour until the pediatrician's office opens and see if I can't get him in a 10am, else I have to take the kid tomorrow afternoon, when the office is jammed...

    pricks.

Whoa, Terri and fellow car gals... I am rethinking that road trip to Canada...

Canadian Politician Charged in DeathSIGN IN TO RECOMMENDSIGN IN TO E-MAILPRINTREPRINTSSHAREArticle Tools Sponsored ByBy IAN AUSTENPublished: September 1, 2009OTTAWA — As the high-profile attorney general for Ontario, Michael Bryant had championed severe and controversial traffic safety laws. On Tuesday, he was charged with criminal negligence causing death and with dangerous driving causing death in an unusually violent episode of road rage involving a bicyclist.Enlarge This ImageTony Smyth/CBCMichael Bryant, a former Ontario attorney general, in the back of a police car on Monday night. The arrest of Mr. Bryant stemmed from a collision between a bicycle and an automobile in Toronto’s most prestigious shopping district late Monday evening. The episode started off as minor but swiftly escalated, leading to the death of Darcy Allan Sheppard, 33, who was identified as a bicycle courier. After the collision, Mr. Sheppard apparently grabbed the driver’s side door and held on. Within moments, the police received reports of a Saab convertible racing past the fashionable shops of Bloor Streetwith a man clinging to its side. Two construction workers doing repairs along the road toldCTV, a Canadian television network, that the car accelerated, its tires squealing, before veering into oncoming traffic on the left side of the street. The workers said that the motorist repeatedly mounted the sidewalk and drove near lampposts in what seemed to be an attempt to brush off the man hanging onto the side. One of the workers said the driver was “yelling pretty loud and he sounded very, very angry.” The other worker said, “He meant to knock him off.”Several witnesses said that the clinging man flew off of the car after striking a mailbox. Sgt. Tim Burrows of the Toronto police traffic division said Mr. Sheppard died shortly after arriving at a hospital. The convertible raced into the covered driveway of a nearby luxury hotel, the witnesses said. Not long after, Mr. Bryant was filmed by television crews sitting in the back of a police cruiser. A black Saab convertible near the hotel entrance had extensive damage on its driver’s side.On Tuesday, Mr. Bryant left a Toronto police station after being charged. He made a brief comment, offering his “deepest condolences” to Mr. Sheppard’s family.Until he quit politics this spring to start an economic development agency for the city of Toronto, Mr. Bryant, a Liberal, was among the highest-profile members of Ontario’s government. In his last role, as economic development minister, Mr. Bryant negotiated the province’s participation in the bailout of Chrysler and General Motors. But it was as the province’s top law enforcement official that he produced the greatest controversy and acclaim of his 10-year political career.Among his targets were street-racing motorists. In 2007 he gave the police the power to seize and destroy cars modified for racing even if no charges were lodged against their owners. After describing such cars as being as dangerous as explosives, he said, “We will crush your car, we will crush the parts.”

Later that year the province passed a bill to deem any vehicle traveling more than 50 kilometers an hour, or 31 miles an hour, faster than the speed limit to be racing. The legislation, under which more than 10,000 charges have been brought, allows the police to immediately seize vehicles and suspend licenses.

    Morning all!

I don't post much anymore, but do get e-mail notification on this thread.

Terri - It's not a listed side effect, but there are a few of us (may be do a search) that have had vertigo after starting tamox.  Mine only lasted for about a month - luckily it wasn't severe.  From what I gathered from the others, it was a short lived se.

    Gentle Hugs to all!

Trish- nice to see ya checking in :)  Good news about the vertigo going away after some weeks, thanks for that too!

So... I got the pediatrician to move the appt up and we ran over there, got shots and came back her by 11am.  Who is surprised that I we have waited from 11am to 1pm and there's no repairman?  I called and the phoneanswerer girl said she's going to miss me when my machine is repaired.  She is of course, speaking too soon.

kari, patti- that's enough of the falling down girls!  Then with me getting my hand shut in the door jamb and vivvy breaking the copier... we're quite a posse eh gals?

    1:04pm, no repairman.

  • Rachel_BC
    Rachel_BC Member Posts: 679
    edited September 2009

At 130pm I called and asked where the repairman was.  The phoneanswered proceeded to yell at me and tell me that she's "in the same boat" as me.  I said really, is your washer dryer not working and you are waiting for 2 weeks for a repairman who is scheduled to come between 11-1pm and doesn't show up?  She said things like that he has no cell coverage- but he's in Manhattan, and ya know, we have cell coverage in Manhattan.  Big city. Then she's yelling about how I am calling her "every five minutes" I said it was 45 minutes ago and the repairman is late, and stop yelling at me, I am the customer and this is  not my fault.  She just kept yelling at me so I hung up.

I called back the mfr, LG, on the phone number I found before I bought the unit, for "Executive Service", asked for the supervisor I had spoken to before i bought unit, specifically to ask about how the service works. He's not in but another supervisor says she is same as the other guy, she found another repair service in the city, I looked them up and they have a good review!!! Nevermind that I called last week when I first started having trouble with this repair service, and that agent couldn't find another repair service that serves Manhattan.  Right, big city, one repair service, they only work in Manhattan one day a week, and they only have a "manager" between 9-10am.  That manager called me this morning and yelled at me they were coming between 11-1pm.  So now it's 2pm and I am on hold with the supervisor at the mfr who says she's calling the repair service that was supposed to show up...

She comes abck on the line and says that the repair service says the repairman is "on the way".  I explain to her that that is not acceptable, and that it is a different story than this same person gave before, and I want the other service to come, I don't want to be yelled at by this service any more and waste more time.  Now I am on hold again.

OK... so I stayed with the mfr and the supervisor on the phone and found a better service place and meanwhile they are calling the bad service people and those bad people are coming up with more and more excuses, the repairman is on his way, he's looking for parking, then they said he was actually at my building, so I called the doorman - with the mfr  supervisor on the line so she could hear and my doorman said no sign of the repairman... so they were busted flat and cold.. and then the bad sevice people said the guy was here but "walking around the block".... right?  Right??????

So while we are organizing the good new repair people, finally the repairman shows up.  Alone. Same guy who came a week ago, so like, he knows where the door to my building is, right?  I offered to have one of the building staff help hiim move the machine, it took him 10 minutes and we're waiting for my staff to come help him move the machine back.

OK so now it's fixed and I had a chat with the repairman and discovered that everyone at the office was lying,  The bitch answering the phone was lying, the manager is not a manager, just a dispatcher, they come to the city 3 times a week... lies lies lies...

There is actually a point to posting this on BC.org, if not the B'O'T thread, and the point is the same as Shelley Lewis makes in her Book, Five Lessons I Didn't Learn From Breast Cancer (And one Big One I Did)

and I am so glad I read that book when I did.  The point of the book (sorry to spoil it for ya) is that Breast Cancer didn't teach her anything per se, but that she used everything she ever learned in life to fight breast cancer.  So yeah, I researched the hell out of my breast cancer, my treatments, my doctors, everything (my only regret being that I didn't do MORE research before my Lumpectomy and RADS, but I did some, enough to make me feel better about the decisions I made), JUST LIKE I DID FOR THE WASHING MACHINE.

And its because I did the research first on the washing machine, actually calling the service numbers for both brands that would fit in my kitchen, the other one didn't have an 800 number for the MFR, and didn't answer the phone, and when I finally got someone they were rude and unhelpful.  So at least I had the 800 number for the MFR to call, the executive line to call, and I had already researched the issues with maintaining the washer dryer (its not the usual kind, much much different, uses water to dry.  Yes, water to dry) I was prepared for this, and I had back up. I kept notes and put it in a special folder on my hard drive so I could call them up and say who I wanted to speak to and all the details. I had recourse.

I tried to do the same with my breast cancer, and now with Tamoxifen.  I did the research.I called the doctors.  I made a folder on my hard drive with all the studies and research I had found- the "maintenance issues" for tamoxifen.   Reading the reviews on the washer dryer told me about the maintenance issues, reading this thread before I ever posted alerted me to the Tamoxifen issues.  If I have trouble on Tamoxifen, I am going to deal with it exactly as I did with the machine.

and now ... i am going to do some laundry. And soon, I will start taking Tamoxifen.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
