Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting. I am struggling with everything. I was diagnosed February 21st with DCIS less than 1 cm. ER+/PR+. I avoided rads and chemo but I am taking tamoxifen. I had a lot of hot flashes in the beginning but they faded. My first two periods were 28 days apart. Then two weeks from the start date of my last period I started again. I had a few hot flashes again. I called my gynecologist and she said I should keep track of my periods for the first six months and if they don't regulate we will do an ultrasound and possible biopsy. (I have been on it almost 3 months) I also called my onc and he said that this was normal as long as it isn't heavy. I am so scared. Any advice and experiences are appreciated!!!
Also, a side note. I went on vacation for a week and due to the time change and so forth I took my tamoxifen about 2 hours later than at home. Would that have caused the bleeding?
Thanks for the help,
Candie

Candie - Welcome to the Tammi Babes! This is a great place to come to for comfort and support. We can get wild and crazy around her at times. We had to do something to get through this. I can't answer your questions about periods as I am post menopausal. But I can tell you that the 2 hour difference in taking your little white pill is not going to make a difference. I know others will come along and help you. Come here anytime to vent, rant, cry or laugh. We are always here for you.

Thanks Jo. I have been crying off and on for the last 3 days. My anniversary and birthday was Monday and Tuesday and felt awful. I was diagnosed at 40 and never dreamed I would be going through all of this.

Candie I wish I could help you with the cycle issues, but chemo took mine and its kept it for over a year now. I know that in the begining the Tammo really made me mushy. I cried at the drop of a dime. Mine was I ever a mess. I never cried so much in my life. It finally did level off for me. Thank goodness, cause I was really getting annoyed with myself. Heck if I coulda I woulda divorced myself. It does get better, trust me. The only thing I can't give you is a time line. Everyone is different. Hang in there, it does get better.
Sherry I do hope things get better for you. As much as I want a Tammo break, after your struggles going back on it, I don't think I want to go there.
Well thanks all for behaving today!! I will have to have you all come along for another one Monday as I go have my trans vag us. That is a very uncomfortable thing and I'm not looking forward to it.
Have a great night all my Sistas, love and light to you all!

Hi Ladies,
Well my hip pain is gone and my knee pain that all the sudden started when I began running, is now almost gone too. Whew.. that tammi is sure a pesky drug. Oh well, as long as it helps!!

My infection is much better but now DH is coming down with it. I told him get to the Dr today so you don't end up like me. He actually listened and made a Dr appt for this morning. After 25 years of marriage he is finally starting to listen. haha
Paula-when you were taking the effexor did you take it in the morning or at night?
0 -
Sherry I took it in the am. I seem to do better at taking daily pills in the am. Just be careful about your eatting. I didn't gain weight but food just wasn't pleasing at all. I had to force myself to eat sometimes. I had to make sure what I ate was quality foods instead of junk so that I was getting the right nutrient's. Was kinda a bummer cause I love my cheese burgers and it was grilling season when I started taking it. I also know that this went on for months, but it did finally go away. I do hope it works for you better then it did for me. In the beginning it did but after about 5 months it stopped working for me. I finally just stopped taking it.

Paula I have already found that to be true food is just not tasting very good. I love fresh tomatoes out of my garden and I have just kinda lost my taste for them. I have been taking the effexor in the morning but am still having a slight neausea. Have been sipping on alot of diet 7Up but I notice by the evening it is gone so I thought I would try to switch taking it at night and maybe the tummy issue might be better. I guess the one good thing about food not tasting so good is maybe I won't gain any weight. LOL

I don't see why it wouldn't hurt to take it in the evenings Sherry. I found for me that to just take it with all the other pills I was popping in the am, it worked best for me. You might find that taking it in the pm just might be better fit for you. What dosage do they have you on. If I remember right that I started out at 3.75. I could be wrong, cause I'm not sure. I know that towards the end I had them bump it up because it wasn't working unntil they did.

Paula I am on the low dosage 37.5. I got off the tammi for about 5 days because I need a reprieve from the hot flashes. I have been on the effexor for 1 week know and I have been back on tammi for three days. I guess i will really know in a week or two if it is really working but so for no hot flashes.

Momx3... glad your surgery went well and hope you heal quickly!
Candie... welcome aboard! great group here. I actually am very irregular with my periods. I am pre menapausal. I actually just got mine today and I hadnt had one since April. My onc and gyn said that irregular periods on TAMOXIFEN WAS TO BE expected and to watch out for any kind of spotting. I have even had my period twice in a month sonce starting TAMOXIFEN. They did a baseling in Nov and said it was on the upper linits of normal for thickening and I had some cycts which again was prob due to the Tam since I never had an issue before. .. Good luck and welcome and we are here for good days bad days in between days whatever days!!!!

Tink - My MO told me to expect a thick lining as long as I am on Tamoxifen. Last year it was pretty thick and had the D&C done.
Going Wednesday for my annual pap. Had a baseline transvaginal US done last year. Will ask for another one this year so i can compare last year to now. Not looking forward to this but at least it only comes around once a year.

Jo....oh yippeee... A trip to the gyno. Is there a Pocket party planned? I think some margaritas are in order and maybe some chips and salsa.

1openheart - Of course there will be a pocket party. My appt is at 1:30 so the margaritas and chips & salsa would be perfect. Get this appt over with for another year. Then I am happy to say - no appts until my recon revision on Aug 6th. Yipee!!!

First follow-up with MO tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed for no surprises. I am sure he will want to discuss results from ultrasound regarding thickening and ovarian cyst. Had 2 US since starting tamox almost 6 months ago. Irregular, heavy bleeding, some spotting one month, etc. Really don't want to deal with this right now. Hope he will just schedule another US and wait and see. Would like a break and to enjoy my summer.

started Effexor 3 weeks ago and it made all the difference. Tamox was really messing with me. It took a while to adjust to the Effexor, but I feel so much better.

June - My gyno is not at all hot. Can't even start to compare. He is just someone I don't mind going to - at least once a year anyway. Hey! Maybe Paula will throw in some eye candy. I could use it this time around - LOL!

Tink - My MO told me to expect a thick lining as long as I am on Tamoxifen.
I wonder about this . I had an endometrial ablation many yrs ago . I am wondering if there is ' no lining to thicken " in a sense. Does anybody know or is that silly conclusion?

I want to join the pocket party for tomorrow
Going to the Gyno too, but mine left lat year after my 6mos hyster check up, so I am seeing the other one who helped her with my surgery. I hope he is nice (he's seen me, but I haven't seen him) because of my "LOVE" for drs, especially when it involves that area and the post-hyster problem I'm having. After I got sick post-op and Jim had to help me, I have to do something!!!! Here's hoping he can fix it before school starts again.AND if anyone knows anything about this kind of stuff, please message me. I kinda feel out there

purple...back when I had a uterus and problems with large fibroids, I had two ablations about 2 years apart. The ablation gave me great results for about a year or so, then I would start having problems with prolonged bleeding again from the fibroids. Eventually, I had a hysterectomy and then wondered why I did not do it sooner. I really wanted to keep my uterus if I could and my doctor was very supportive of doing whatever it took to avoid the hysterectomy. I felt so much better after I had the hysterectomy. I elected to keep my ovaries so as not to go into instant menopause. I guess the bc cells liked the estrogen as much as I did!

purple - I was told the same thing by my MO. Had a D&C last year. Am I going to have to do repeats?0

Hello ladies,
I've been taking Tamoxifen for just over a month now. Some of my side effects have gone away (bone pain and dizziness). But the others have stayed (low back and hip pain), hair loss and fatigue. I found that switching the time of day I take it really helped. In the beginning I was taking it in the morning. It was brutal. Then I switched to before bed and it is not as bad. But, I have noticed something new lately. Actually, my boyfriend noticed it. He thinks I am depressed and I think he is right. I was feeling really good after radiation and felt a little tired but my mood was cheerful and optimistic. Now I want to cry everyday, all day. Just thinking about it now is tearing me up. I am torn... do I need an anti-depressant or do I wait it out? Will it get better? I am senstitive to medication and wanted to avoid any new medications. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening.
Oh and for those of you who are nauseated, my doctor said I could drink gingerale but it had to be flat. If the bubbles are there it could make it worse. I have also used Gravol chewable ginger tabs in the past for other issues and they have worked.

MissAngie - Welcome but sorry we have to mee this way. This is the best bunch of gals around. Many of us has had hair loss and most of us take Biotin. This can be purchased over the counter in the vitamin section of your local grocery store, pharmacy, etc. The crying spells maybe the result of this whole bc crap hitting you. This is such a tramatic event. All of us have been there to some degree. I would suggest you speak with your MO about this and see what he/she has to say. Just remember you are not in this alone. We are all here for you. I am sure someone else is going to come along and offer more words of wisdom. Hang in there - it really does get better. (((HUGS)))

MissAngie
Welcome!
Why wait it out? We have enough to deal with . If you are feeling depressed, pls. speak to your dr. Make sure they all know what you are taking since some anti-Ds can make tamoxifen less effective...others have no such impact.Good Luck!

I hope not jo55!0

Welcome missangie! Just like Jo and purple have said talk to your MO about it. I know for one I was a basket case for months. It does get easier with time really it does. I still have moments where it gets to me, but not like before. Hang in there! Come here and post whatever you need to. This is the one place where everyone gets it. This is why I love it here and love all my Sistas as well.
I really am tired today. Had hubbies family reunion. It was a beautiful day and since we had it at the lake, it was cooler. I haven't had the AC on but that may change here soon. Hubby works in this nasty heat and humdity so he needs a break. Me I can do without the AC this summer so far. Hot flashes have calmed down so thats a plus. Heck maybe if I sweat enough, I just might loose a few pounds, wishful thinking.
Have a great night all, love and light to you all!! Love ya my sistas!!!

Tappy thanks for the input on Effexor.
Jo we will be with you.
missangie I agree with the others talk to your Dr. i would not wait it out. And welcome aboard.0 -
WELCOME Angie. My Onco told me in the beginning to take the Tamox at night to help with the side affects, but although some seem to disapate with time, others like to hang out. As for the depression, it might be the end of the daily BC routine and talking to your dr is a good idea. Mine told me getting back to school was really going to help, and it did.
For the drugs, I LOVE the anti-Ds, especially since I panic over things like, oh....surgery, of which there seems to be no end. Effexor seems to be a good permanent idea. It helps with the hot flashes too, but I'm still on Lorazand everytime I cut back, something else comes up.
OK.... I'm done!!! Worried (duh) about tomorrow, plzkeep mein your pockets!!!!
