Hi to all who have had TC

Has anyone had continued leg cramps lingering after kemo.

I have leg cramps, muscle aches, on sides of my thighs etc etc.

Last kemo was Jan 2nd. Is this T lingering in body or something else?

    Thanks so much.

mikim, most of us on this thread are still getting TC, so we won't know for a few months whether the SE's you are describing are a problem for us.  When during your chemo regimen did you start getting the bad leg cramps?  I'm halfway finished (4 tx at 3-wk intervals) and I don't have any leg or muscle cramps except from the Neulasta injections.  Those only last for a couple of days.

Oh, and for those of you with tx's coming up this week, here's to a smooth infusion and minimal SE's.  (Yeah, right.  That'll be the day, that nobody has at least something interesting happen!)  I'm sorry I haven't kept my calendar up to date.  By the time I catch up, most of us will have finished our TC and moved on to the next phase.

Is anyone having a bloody nose? Not constant, but everytime I blow it. Normal? Thanks, Karen

lotogds, you have a lot on your plate!  Hope your tx goes well today and the pooch gets better.  It's sad when our furry friends don't feel well, so I hope she recovers from whatever it is.

Kfalls - yes to the bloody nose.  It's almost constant for me.  I just try to be gentle with it.

With all I have going on, I broke out the Ativan the last 2 nights.  I finally got a good night's sleep!!  I have been trying not to get dependent on that stuff, but sometimes you just have to use the tools in the toolbox, eh?

Artsee, glad you popped in.  When is your last tx?  Mine is Wednesday.  I can't wait to get it over with, but not looking forward to the se's.  I am still pretty tired from the last one, though this past weekend I worked a lot in getting ready for moving, so I guess that's another reason I am tired...

    Have a great day, everyone!!

lotodgs - I'm so sorry about your schnauzer. I believe it's harder on us when they're sick than when we are.  We had to make the decision to let the leaky dashound move to his reward last night.  He's 17, can't see or hear, forgets where he is, and can't control the leaking.  He is last living connection my dh has to his mother and this is really being hard on him.  Please say a little prayer for both of them at 3 today.  Thanks.

kfalls- I've been getting the bloody nose a bit from time to time.  I think I read somewhere that this is normal.

Good luck to all who are visiting the "bar" today

CHJ - just had my first post-surgery mammogram last week in prep for organizing for rads.  The tech gave me a peak at the pix and that actually made me a bit nervous since I expected to see nothing (silly me) and instead saw what I'm pretty sure ended up being the scar tissue.  Of course, also saw 10 titanium clips - was expecting to find 6 and the "window" seemed quite a bit larger than I expected.  I've heard from the docs that all is fine just come back in 6 months and am actually seeing the surgeon, med onc, and rad onc this Wed & Thurs so will follow-up just to be sure.  Remember, it is not the test that is a problem if there is one.  The test helps to find an issue.  Hopefully, all will go well for you.  Let the doctors do their thing.

Sharon - there's a rad page called something like "starting in May".

Karen - 90% of my hair was gone within 4 days of it starting to come out.

Trii - I was not aware that they were doing a dose dense version of CT as yet.  Are you part of a clinical trial?

Lotodgs & beachmom - thinking of you, your families and your furry companions.

Heading out on vacation with my DH next week.  A well deserved break after completing the chemo cycles and before rads.  Med Onc gave my antibiotics to have with me just in case since I am going a few days earlier than ideal.

Eyebrows keep thinning.  Expect to need the brow pencil within the next week.  That will be interesting - I am terrible with makeup.  Good news is that I will be with another gal who went through this herself 3 years ago so should be able to get daily advice if needed.

beachmom, I am so sorry to hear about your dog also.  Our pets add so much to our lives, and leave such a big hole in our hearts when they are gone.  I'm a cat person, and we have 4 cats.  Our youngest is now 11, the oldest is probably 13 or 14 (adopted, we don't know how old a couple of them are) and so we know we'll be dealing with the aging pet issue before too terribly long.  But they are getting more love than most cats could ever hope for!

    Hi Ladies,

I have still been lurking on this thread on and off. You all seem to be hanging in pretty well.  I am 8 weeks out from my last tx.

I was still losing eyebrow hairs up until last week. Jisman wanted to let you know last week I found a maybelline eyebrow powder that I have found to work way better than the pencil. I have less than 1/2 an eyebrow on each side, but can use the powder and actually have it look way more natural than the pencil. Hope this helps.

chj - so glad you are finally getting to finish this part. I hope your last round is gentle with you!

    Take care, all!

NurseLisa, did you see the "Help" feature on the menu on your "My Home" page?  It gives a little bit of information about posting an avatar.  I don't know what the error message meant, but my avatar is just a jpeg file.  Maybe the image you tried to use was software-specific, and the BCO system didn't like it.  Try converting your pic to jpeg format.  I photoshopped mine to make it small enough (there is a size limit--see the "Help" menu for info), but otherwise it worked fine.

CHJ, I've always liked your avatar, too.  I so admire those of you willing to post your "commando" pics.  I think you said one time that you didn't worry too much about mascara or eyeliner or such.  It looks like your hair and features are normally quite dark.  So, other than a very short cut (!), you look great.

Kfalls, I had a slight bloody nose twice during the 3rd wk of my tx #1.  You know, just when everything else has recovered and I was feeling fabulous ... so I got a bloody nose.  It didn't last, though.  Now, I'm really, really careful about nose-related stuff.  Don't want to rough up those capillaries any more than necessary.  I think nosebleeds must be inevitable, what with the messed-up mucous membranes and a slightly low platelet count.

I don't even want to talk about pet loss.  I had a dog and a cat that saw me through my last years of college. (I was there a looooong time.  Just couldn't get it right at first, I guess!)  They moved across the country with me, and helped me through the trauma of a new job, a new marriage, a new house.  Then my cat was killed by a neighbor's dog (part of a pack of dogs that roamed the area); and 2 years later my dog died of a really bad form of dog cancer (hemangiosarcoma).  I just couldn't deal with more of that.  So since then, I've only had "feral" pets--2 baby box turtles, a local lizard, a bird that hit the window, etc.  All were from the wild, and all were with me just long enough to recuperate from whatever was ailing them.  Then I let them go in very safe places. Now, I just enjoy the wild things that live around me (not meaning my dh of course!).

Just can't deal with losses anymore.  I guess I need to get over that.  Oh, and I still have the itchy bumps on my scalp.  I left a message for my onco's nurse, and she's supposed to call me back.  On 2nd thought, I would like to lose the scalp bumps!

Our pets are just like family. When they get sick we definitely devote lots of energy to making them comfortable. Doctor appts, medicines special treatment to get them better,  just like us. If they could they would drive us and sit with us while taking treatments. They really do help us in so many ways.  It is painful when we lose them, and I feel your pain. On the bright side of it, they are now running and playing with their friends. I have lost and will lose again, but my heart is full of love for each and every pet that I have had and will have. I can't be without my fuzzy friends.  Life would be too lonely. Hugs to all.

I have the challenge of the bloody nose as well.  The avocado oil helps keep my nose moist so it tends just to be pink.  My hips, legs are still giving me a very painful time. I go to the onc dr today, plan on inquiring about the pain. I thought I would be a bit better by now. Has anyone else had any similar challenges?

    Have a sunny day.Cool

Thanks everyon for your kind words.  Snappy belonged to MIL andhe was the apple of her eye.  She passed 5 6 years ago and now I believe she and Snaps will be happy together.  Otter, like you, I lost a pet 30 years ago and swore I could not go through the heartbreak again. A friend asked if I could temporily take care of his dog while he finishe up he phd. We fell in love and he is now my salvation on bad days.  My dh is an animal lover.  We have 2 other dogs and 3 cats.  All of them he rescued.  The cats were rejected my their mothers and he bottle fed them.  One, mouse, was the size of a mouse and squeaked.  Still can't meow and he's 5.

I know this has nothing to do with what's going here, but it helps.  thanks.

Okay, I have another question. From what I've been reading most of you have once a month injections for four months. I'm going to have once a week injections for three weeks with one week off for four months. I'm curious if anyone else has had the same with Taxotere and Cytoxan. I haven't had the chemo class yet should be this week some time. I am to have my first injection on the 12th of May (I believe). I don't know, I feel like I want to know everything right now. Whats going to happen with this whats going to happen with that....lol... My family tells me everything is moving fast already. But to me, I want to just keep going to get it all over with as quickly as possible. It seems like your life is almost put on hold or all your doing is waiting for the next doctors appointment or for them to call you back with the next doctors appointment. Thanks for answering my questions and listening....

A page or so back, I was reading about the eyebrows and eyelashes leaving.  I got a pair of false eyebrows (and my 36 yr. old daughter thought this was hilarious because I spent most of my lifetime plucking them out), and they look very natural!  I still have mine so I haven't put them on yet.  I think I got them from headcovers.com.  I tried wearing false eyelashes and they feel funny.  I will probably try them again when the need arises.

Sorry about your animal losses.  And that 17 year old dog- that's old!  I have a 7 1/2 yr. old white German Shepherd-Molly.  That must be so hard to go through especially with everything else!

Hope everyone feels good this week.

clcady - I'm not sure if I'm reading your message right, but the typical chemo treatment for T/C is 1 treatment every 3 weeks.  Some people get what they call "dose dense" treatments which are once every 2 weeks, but the 3 week cycle is more typical.  I have not heard of anyone getting Taxotere + Cytoxan on a 4-week cycle.

    Hope that helps.

clcady, will you be getting your Cytoxan orally instead of through an i.v. infusion?  With some of the older chemo regimens, like CMF, the Cytoxan was given in pill form.  I think then it needs to be administered more often than every 3 weeks.

OTOH, this could be some sort of dose-dense TC regimen none of us has heard of before.

    Greetings All!

    T/C cycle 1, day 5

All in all I feel good this afternoon.  The best way I can sum up the past 4 days is "odd".  Odd taste in my mouth, oddly tired but can't sleep during the day, odd aches and pains primarily in my legs.  Most odd is the fog in my brain - lack of focus and clarity of thought. Yesterday I spent 1 1/2 hours sorting storage containers and matching lids that fit.  Crazy!

I have found that walking and stretching have helped with the leg pain, just as many of you have mentioned.  Ibuprofen has helped also.

Think I'll try a drive into town, save my dh a trip to the store after his work day. Getting out of the house is what I need but I need to pick up hand sanitizer for my purse to protect me from germy persons.

Last evening I was actually hungry and ate well.  Porkchops on the grill sound yummy for tonight.

Day 18 after TC#2, still have eyelashes and eyebrows.  Eyebrows have always been thin, so nothing new there for me.  Currently having the goopy, watery eyes.  Will be talking to a client and boom! , eyes start watering and I feel like I am crying.  Very annoying indeed.  My eyelids themselves are very tender, not sure if its from the escessive watering or what?  My onco told me to add Claritin to my regimen and to try artificial tears. What, like the tears I have aren't enough? So we'll see.

I have had the nosebleeds for the past 2 weeks. If I sneeze, its gonna bleed, nothing I can do about it.  Fortunately, it stops within 10 seconds or so, and hasn't lasted long at all.  So my clotting is good at least!  Great news for me is, chemo pause has hit, finally!  This was the one side effect I have been waiting for, no periods.  Of course, once the hot flashes hit, if they do, I will probably change my tune.  We'll see.

Has anyone else had the headaches with their tc treatment?  I noticed it about 2 weeks ago, very low key, not blinding or anything.  More annoying than anything really.  But it has been consistant, day in and day out.  Tylenol doesn't do anything for me, so no help there.  And my onco told me no ibuprofen, aleve or anything with aspirin.  So no help there either.  I go in this Thursday, 5/8 for tc#3, so will have to ask them then.

Otherwise, I feel great, no problems other than being a crybaby with watery eyes.  Hope everyone has a no se week and smooth treatments!

Nose bleed issues.....Hi ladies, I use a product every day and night to keep my nose moist. A dry nose is painful and more likely to get an infection.  There is a product over the counter that is call "Ocean", it is a saline mist. It helps the nose heal and keep it moist.  It has worked wonders for me.  I would highly reccomend it for all.

    Good Day

    Ladybug-

When I went through Chemo University the nurse said that Tylenol and Ibuprofen was ok for the aches and pains that come up.  Interesting how the docs will differ in what they tell us.  I haven't had much of a headache, it's the pesky muscle aches that are getting to me.

    Janice -

fear it all coming to and end?  I wonder if that's because chemo may be seen as your life line, connecting you with the best shot of a future with long life and no recurrence?  Who knows...I'm only 5 days into cycle #1

    Nurselisa-

did you continue to work throughout treatments?

I am sad for those of you with sick pets.

    Goldilocks-

my doc recommended the supplement L-carnitine 500 mg twice daily for prevention of peripheral neuropathy and to prevent severe muscle/ joint pain.  This is taken starting day one of the cycle and continued for 7 days.  I am taking anything I can to minimize SE so I can't say what it would be like without the L-carnitine.

Just had my 3rd tx a couple of hours ago.  Had a reaction where my face turned red and got nauseous.  So, they pumped me full of meds, and now I feel like a 95 yr old woman.  Off to bed for a week!  Have a good one, all.

Day 13 after 1st tx and had to shave my head because falling out in clumps. I found it oddly liberating in a funny sort of way! My daughters suggested I could wear no underwear and pretend I was Britney Spears. It is helping so much to find humor in all of this and read these postings. I will try that nasal spray.

PAlady - thanks for the tip on the maybelline eyebrow powder.   I'll look for it tomorrow.
