Wren- I completely agree! I made sure that I did not start treatment at a Cath. hospital. I won't use/purchase services for anything if I know they are owned by any religion or heavily religious owners (chik-fil-a, hobby lobby, etc.)

Yes, I won't go back to hobby lobby either, even tho they had a few things I wanted to buy.

Wren44- totally agree on the hospital thing! I work for them! Have kept quiet and not "come out"! Watching to see what happens with the birth control thing.I do hope more people speak up. Just because you work for someone doesn't mean you have to share their personal ideals. How the Catholic church can judge or foster their opinions on anyone is beyond me, specially after 'pedo-gate  One would think they would lay low..

yeah, after my diagnosis, my sister who is a fundamentalist, kept tellin me she was praying for me. i was just trying to get her to do a mammo, she never has. and she said if she found out she had bc, she would pray for god to heal her. so i asked what would she do if she had a broken arm.

I feel the same way when someone says "God won't give you more than you can handle". Really??? I have been the caregiver for my Mother In Law who passed, my father one year later who passed, and then my husbands aunt for 8 years. She was only supposed to live for 6 months! The rest of the family joked that they wanted me to be their caregiver because I was so good at it. Then 2 years ago my 31 year old daughter was diagnosed with Triple Neg. breast cancer and I took care of her which was a pleasure. She was and has been my focus for the last 2 years and now I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. How much more does God think I can handle????

i was reading in a book about bc, where an episcopalian (one of the least obnoxious, to me) woman minister, responded to that from another woman in her bc support group, with a definate "F**k that!" plus something else i cant remember right now.  i am glad when people are happy in their faith, except when it upsets them if i dont believe in the exact same way they do. i am kind of an agnostic amateur theologian, i guess. and my answer to many things, lately has been "really?!?" love that you said that KLJ!

    flannelette,

I first became aware of Dominion Theology when reading about the Kitzmiller v Dover case about teaching Creationism in public schools.  (You can Google that.  It's very interesting)  The goals of Dominion Theology were accidently released as part of the documents produced in discovery for that law suit.  Here is a link.  It appears the group is right on target for their timeline.  http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Wedge_Document#FIVE_YEAR_STRATEGIC_PLAN_SUMMARY

notself - thank you.  I've never read that much about the theory because I foolishly thought something that bizarre would just fade out in the future.  Another thing I was so wrong about....really is sad, to see how fundamentalism is reaching into so much of our lives.

I still am in awe of the Flying Spagetti Monster   http://www.venganza.org/

and very seriously use it as a reference when anyone tries to tell me about their fundamentalist religion.  What especially makes me laugh, is when someone tries to convince anyone that the USA is a "christian" nation.  Seems so many have forgotten those words "under God" were added to pledge, money, etc. during the McCarthy 1950's - might as well cheer for the HUAC while they're at it.

thank god he's protecting me from all this nonsense and scary sh*t by living north of the border. By the way, notself, I've started reading Stephen Batchelor - confessions of an Atheist Buddhist. Love it. Gets right back to basics - you often talk about the Pali suttas on the other thread. also Buddhism without Beliefs.

Sunflowers, DS has a certificate saying he is a minister in the church of the flying spaghetti monster. He had a great halloween costume as the spaghetti monster with a rag mop on top of his head and eyes projecting above his head. A coworker asked how he could see. He said Duh! I have eyes (pointing to the eyes above his head). His oldest son is named Darwin. They visited the Galapagos Islands on their honeymoon.

    flannelette,

I've read Buddhism without Belief.  He had an interesting path from a Tibetan monk to a secular Buddhist.

    SunflowersMH,

The next time someone says that we were founded as a Christian nation, just refer them to the Treaty of Tripoli.  The treaty was passed unanimously by the Senate and signed by John Adams in 1797.  Back then the idea of separation of church and State was believed to be a good thing and we got along with Muslims.  Here's the link and a quote. http://www.stephenjaygould.org/ctrl/treaty_tripoli.html

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Posting on several boards to see how many others have noticed this:

Ladies, I have a question for you:

Does your face actually look like
    your physiognomy has changed?

I kept looking at myself in the mirror,
thinking that I didn't look like myself, and thought it was an emotional
response. But yesterday I was out with several old friends and some
photos were taken, which once I saw them, I had to ask my bf if that was
what I looked like now. He said yes, that my face looks different now.
Not just a weight thing either. That there is an actual change in the way my face looks.

    Have you experienced this?

yeah, jwoo, i have! i am prettier! i do have a few more wrinkles, though, but my actual skin is clearer than it has ever been. my eyebrows shape and thickness has changed, and they look more arched. is that what you mean? can you explain?

The shape of my face and features are different.  It is subtle, but there is a difference. I am not sure if it was the chemo, the steroids, or if it is the tamoxifen, but enough for people to notice. I think part of it is my bite, as your gums and such are soft and strange when in chemo, and I have to wear a bite guard, which may have moved my bite since it hasn't ever been a perfect fit, but my nose looks a little different too. It is more- bulbous.  It is just really strange and I could not put my finger on what it was until yesterday.

(And my skin was soooo smooth and clear when i was in chemo. All my bumps and wrinkles disappeared, but they've all come back. )

i am so sorry to hear that. is it live withable? i think my face went through a lot of changes in the time since it all started, and i did take pictures, it can be startling! i was feeling sorry for myself at tx center one day, and then i saw a lady with a quarter of her face missing, and she was smiling and laughing with her friend, and i quickly became grateful, for my "hidden" cancer. not to minimize what we go through.

it is- it is just a startling revelation and i was wondering if anyone else had the same experience, and if it might be specifically caused by a particular treatment. not feeling bad for myself (more than normal) just curious to see if anyone else had the same thing happen to them.

Hi everyone!  It has been a long time since I showed my face at BCO. I think of you all often and thought it was about time I check in. I have been on a terrific journey this past year, one definitely part of the fallout of my DCIS and mastectomy. I am divorced and seeing someone new and happier than I ever remember. Life sure is an unexpected thing. I hope this finds each of you doing well. Cheers to Sunflowers, Flannelette, SoCalLisa, and all newcomers!

Good to hear from you CLC. Glad things are going well.

DS told us he was talking to a friend and said his religion (pastafarian) was never included. She said she understood because she is Jewish. Where were they? Easter egg hunt. I had to laugh.

YEAH, cheers for CLC.  What a wonderful report.  So glad there is more SUNSHINE in your life now too.  Isn't it amazing how things can change for the better!   Always makes me think ( wish?) I could have known many years ago ( don't use the word "younger") how good things can CHANGE to be.  Tho' just hearing the "D" word, reminds me of how difficult the transition can be.  STILL, there's sunshine on the other side.

THANK YOU for reminding us, how a difficult experience ( that "D" word!) can lead to so much sunnier days.

Lisa- I've MISSED your gorgeous pictures, know you're on another thread with them, gott remember to check them out there too.

Chuckling thinking of a Flying Spaghetti Monster wearing Rabbit Ears - wonder if they'd fit over the colander?
