Chelev--you look geat!!I am 6 weeks out and only have peach fuzz--coming in dark with gray--still no eyebrows and very few lashes--that is driving my crazy as I used to have long lashes--anyway trying to be patient so all the pics are really a help and everyone looks very cute!D!

Cabmom I made the mistake of waiting too long even though I was told to cut my hair short early on --I started loosing my exactly 2 and a half weeks after starting and it was hard to see the clumps so be sure you cut it early and dont wait--it is all doable!!!stay strong-- Laura

Hey, does anyone have a solution for unruly eyelashes??  Mine are coming back quickly, but growing in at weird angles.  I have some in the very middle and some on the outer lid that grow straight out to the side toward my ears!  I've tried plain mascara and now am trying Maybelline XXL Extensions that is supposed to help control them, but to no avail.

I gave up the wig & hats this last week, and it is so freeing!  My hair is salt & pepper and coming in pretty thick; it is 1/2" long.  I am 12 weeks P*C, and my goal had been to ditch the wig by Halloween, but I decided I'd had enough.  So far I've had lots of good comments My daughter even likes it enough that she thinks I should keep it this way.  (Don't think that'll happen!)

I've loved reading all of the comments, and especially seeing the pics.  Wish I was more photogenic and techno-saavy so I could post a picture of my own.  I'm sure there are quite a few of us who follow all of the progress without posting very often. We do take note of the advice though.

Speaking of advice...I've also been taking Biotin (5,000 mcg.) and using JASON thin to THICK extra volume shampoo with Biotin.  It is natural & organic and Biotin is the 5th ingredient listed on the label. I let it set on my hair while I wash in the shower.  I'm not sure what helps and what doesn't, but my hair is so far thicker than it was pre-chemo.

Y'all keep up the comments!   Linda

My hair is just coming out now.  I had it cut really short this weekend and that makes it a little less traumatic.  Did your scaplp hurt as the hair was coming out?  I have very diffuse scalp pain--makes wearing a hat or tuban really uncomfortable.  Does the pain get better after the hair is gone?

Cindy2 - the day my hair started coming out my scalp was so tender and sore.  It felt like I had worn a too tight pony tail for 48 hours straight.  I couldn't wait to shave my head at that point.  About 30 minutes after we shaved my scalp the pain was gone, prior to that I couldn't even touch my scalp.

Cindy - Jancie is right - it hurts so badly as the follicles push to get out of your scalp that it is a sweet relief to shave it all off.  Then it stops hurting almost immediately!  But as my husband was touching my head to get the hair ready for shaving, I almost cried it hurt so bad!!

    Hi girlz,

I am almost a year out.....YAH! Posting a picture of my hair before trying to style it. As I have said before, those of you wishing for curls, be careful what you wish for! At least I am set for Halloween. I can die it red, blue and yellow and go as a clown......or I could be "Annie".

As curly as it is, and as much as I hate it..............IT'S BETTER THAN BEING BALD!

There is a link on my profile of all my hair pictures over the last year for anyone that wants to look.

    Photobucket

    Many hugs, Lori

Lori - your hair is so thick!!!  And, it is beautiful - even pre-styling!  I think I am headed that way - someone compared my ever wavy-curl starting hair to Ali McGraw in the 70's move Convoy - she had a very short afro perm.  I don't know if it was a compliment or not, but I am just grateful my hair seems to be thickening and filling in - and I'll deal with the rest as it grows in.

Lindatwo: I got rid of the hats last week.  I found myself pointing out the fact that I was hatless.  Tuesday night, we went to my daughter's open house at school and I told anyone and everyone that it was one of my first times with my security blanket, I mean black Nike baseball hat.  Then, on Wednesday night we went to my son's open house (he's at Jesuit High School) and again made comments.  I need to stop explaining myself and just be free.  I am right at 3 months PFC and have pretty good coverage.

Chelev: your trip is coming right, right? You must be soo excited!

Lori - it looks great!  I am almost 8 months PFC and still have only a couple of inch of straight hair. I think I'm going to be the exception to the rule (big surprise) and get straight hair back.

Hey Hair thread, Just a quick question to all that have hair. Mine is coming in, see the white ones which are about 1/8 long and very fine. The other hair feels like stubble and is not coming as fast but has color. Do the white one eventally get color or do the stubble ones fill in as color hairs as they grow? Hugs to all dianne

    Hi ladies!

Been a while so I am checking in.

Lori-Holy hair girl! As always I'm amazed every time you post an update!

Chelev-Look at all that hair.  Doesn't it seem like yesterday that we were telling you it was going to start growing like a weed:-)

Here's my update 26 wks PFC.  (and as always with my little angel besides me:-)

BTW, this past Friday was one year exactly of my dx.

Susan, yes, yes, you were right - it did start growing faster once it seemed to get started.  :)  You are at a year - that is awesome!!!!!   I went on your blog and your recent photo is great - I can't wait until I can style this fluffy-sort-of-curly mess, but I'm so grateful it is a mess!

Stef58 - yes the "clear" hairs eventually get pigmented and your normal hair color comes in, along with usually gray hair, but none of us are bummed about that - it's HAIR and that's all that matters!

Dear all, I am 6 weeks out of chemo and just starting to see hair coming in.

My lashes and brows are falling out and coming in all at once!

I am going to take photos periodically and post them when I have some results...

Have a good evening, Judy x

its been a year one whole year since my last chemo Taxotre and I barely have any hair when I look at some of these picutres I think what the heck happened to me I still wear a ball cap I had to force my self in June to stop with the wig thought that might be stunting my hair growth well its still not awake. I am single cant date of course who would want a bald headed 57 year old I see ugly in the mirror I cant seem to get the wieght off either not fat wieght its chemo fluid still I am working out now so hopefully that will help the wieght if not I can chaulk that up to chemo too I was skinny before all this. Oh yes anyone have any clue what can help my nails they have gone bad like I was on chemo go figure its a heck of a thing like it wants to linger on my head is like a big bandage that wont go away ...sorry but I am venting when I saw these pictures of 31 weeks I was so shocked I use to have so much hair ....they never warned me that Taxotore could cause your hair not to come back there are alot of us on another thread so if you have this problem look for the thread..

Lisa1964 - how long does the hair have to be for extensions? Some bangs sound really good to me.

Chelev, I am with you...."its hair"! Now mind, I do NOT wear it like this! It takes quite awhile to style it to something. If I gel it and let it curl, the curls are so tight, I don't think they go any more than and inch from my head. Tigger could use them!

Jane, I hope you are embracing the "straight" hair.

Diane, as you can see my color, it is back to normal. And if you look at the pics on my profile, you can see when I had the "colorless" stuff.

Susan, congrats on being 1 yr out! Hooray!!!! Your "Little Angel" is so adorable and you so look good with the short hair.

Enjoylife, I am so sorry your hair is not coming in, that has to be awful for you. I did not do Taxortore, so know nothing about it. As for venting.....it is allowed and encouraged! Where else can we go to do that! I wish you the best and pray the Hair Fairy visits you soon....HUGS.

    Judy, hang in there!

Ladies, what can we do about the viable option of word getting out to future chemo patients that Penguins Cold Caps may help save the majority of one's hair?

I found out from the Septemer 2009 treatment group that a couple of ladies are wearing them are having success.  One lady, Newportlori , visited us to tell us that she has had three TCH treatments and has only lost a very small amount of hair (around her ears and nape of neck) as the Cold Cap didn't sufficiently chill that section of her head.  She is having wonderful success. I am so happy for her!

I just received a call from Penguins Cold Caps and they said that sadly, as I already had my first treatment with unprotected hair follicles (sounds like I had unprotected sex and now am getting an STD!), my hair cannot be saved.  This is very sad...so many people do not need to lose their hair.

I wish you all the best with your regrowth...actually I am right behind you..."way" behind you Embarassed

    hugs...

enjoylife - have you seen your dermatologist since its been so long?  Perhaps they can get you started with something to help.  I was nervous about getting a taxane, because I heard they can be so harsh on the hair front - and I only had 2 treatments and still have a very thin patch on top.  Doc said it may never fully come back.  Derm may also help with the nail situation, since it also happening so far out from the chemo.  Good luck and please vent when you need it - we are all put in this situation by the treatments we have to get and it stinks no matter what!

goldie love all the hair just thinking that mine is on its way there but i just had it styled 2 weeks ago so it is shorter. that was hard to let her cut it i had it trimmed twice this was the cut i used to get before chemo always had short hair before just not curly. i let it grow out to shoulder length got cancer and lost it all so am not sure if i can let it grow again, i hate having just one of those precious hairs cut.           CONGRATS ON THE UPCOMING WEDDING a year ago you were probably wondering if you would see this day  and here you are with that big smile  take lots of pictures and post them for all of us to see        LOL    Sharon

Given the very negative comments that Sanaisa posted on the September cvhemo thread concerning caps I am surprised top see this post here today.  Apparently her oncologist didn't think the UK regulatory system had any veracity whereby the UK has been perfectly happy with the use of Penguin caps for a number of years.

My own ecxperience to date, with slightly different equipment, has been positive.

The other threads on cold cap detail other people's exporience in the US, which also is positive.  The moderators have told me that they wopuld prefer not to "pin" a topic at the moment, as they have so very many requests  for pins and can't say yes to all.

Consequently those of us on the cold cap threads keep doing "bumps." in order that people may have sxome info and thus a poitential choice to make.

Does anyone know how many cold caps are actually needed per session and the cost of each one?  If I understood correctly you only rent them, right?  Little confused.....does it take a long time to get them?
