I read here a lot (as I have no hair) but this is my first post. Had to share a fun time today. I left work (with my wig on) with my daughter today. We were driving with the sun roof open, windows down, 85 degrees and sunny. She said 'Why don't you take the wig off.' I know this has freaked her out in the past. So I said 'Really?' All of a sudden my 3/4 inch hair was BLOWIN IN THE WIND!!! Felt fantastic!

Looks like there are a lot of us living vicariously through you ladies. I read this thread daily too to remind myself that I will have hair again. I am on Taxol #6 of 12 and I do have some growth although not enough to measure yet.

You are my inspiration and you are all beautiful. Smile

Anyone having troubles with their eyebrows coming in?  I'm 6 months PFC and I still don't have any.  There are some transparent hairs but that's all.  I have 2 inches of hair on my head so I know it can grow.  I guess I should have been more specific when speaking with the hair fairy.

Renee - I have noticed that my eyebrows grew in but did not fill in in the areas that I had been plucking for years.  They came back pretty quickly - I was using Nioxin's follicle booster.  You can take a drop and rub it over the area where your brows were.  Also, there are these great brow colorants, almost like a mascara, that I was using (and still use occasionally) to give color to the hairs that were actually there.  I found mine at Ulta.  I think Anastasia was the brand.  You can probably even take a brown mascara and gently color the brows with that.  I'll find the hairy fairy and give her a kick in the butt to get over to your brows!!

From the time my diagnosis was confirmed by the biopsy results, I was calm and stoic with a positive attitude.  On the day I saw my oncologist to arrange my chemo treatments and the nurse told me I would definitely lose my hair, I continued to be upbeat.....until I got in my car and broke down.  I cried the entire 40 miles home.  I could have kicked myself.  Why was I letting such a superficial thing upset me so?

When my hair did start falling out (day 14 following my first treatment), I wasn't upset at all.  I had my wigs, hats, and scarves and I was ready to go.  I keep reading that hair grows back thicker.  Having lived with fine, flat hair all my life, I so want to believe this.  A little wave would be nice too.

I love your posts.  They keep a gal going.  One question......do those padded hat/scarf pads really keep scarves from looking flat on your head?  I don't want to spend the money if they don't work.

    Thanks Chelev.

I got a script for Latess today from my onco.  Has anyone tried it?

Lissak, I went bald so I can't answer your question.  I felt the same way you do.  Loosing your hair is very traumatic.

Lissak, I did not wear anything  under my bandanas except occasionally my bangs hairpiece, so I can't say if they work or not.  I agree, Lisa, the actual cutting of my long hair to a very short, ugly hairstyle was the most traumatic day I had during the whole bc journey.  When it was ready to fall out, I welcomed it because my head was so tender.  Now that its resembling more and more a very very short haircut, albeit a thin head of hair in spots, it is better.  What I did put under my silk scarf was a headband kind of thing that came with it, it helped the silk from slipping.  Otherwise, I didn't wear anything under the others.

Renee - I visited the derm to see about Latisse, but since it was a little cost prohibitive (I was working with furlough weeks sprinkled in), I just waited for the lashes to grow.  Thankfully they did, but they still aren't as long as they were, but did come in as thick.

ReneeS - I had great lashes pre-chemo.  I have been using the Latisse, and I can say they are even better now.  I have noticed more of a difference in my bottom lashes.  They look great!

ReneeS - For me, the Latisse lasted longer than the projected 30 days.  I know it says to use a different brush for each eye, but if you use the same brush (like we do with mascara) you have enough brushes for 60 days.  Since the Latisse is so expensive, that's what I did, and it worked fine.  Also, my doctor said to run the brush over your brows after your lashes.  The excess will help the brows too.

Soaplady - how did you create the montage of your photos?  I'd like to do that (when my hair is finished trying to come in, of course!!).

lissak,   you are allowed those occasional breakdowns i have a wonderful nurse b/c survivor to talk to and everytime i got to a new treatment or whatever upset me i would call her and she said that was normal she did it more often than me she was surprised that it took me so long the first time. i just had a small breakdown this week when i had to go for a mammo and ultrasound the first since the diagnosis i was scared to death she said it will happen on anniversaries of surgery, chemo start dates diagnosis date etc. that it is normal and if i wasn't acting that way she would be concerned      my tests all came out normal in fact my doc said everything is fantastic   but we all have these panic modes to deal with YOU ARE NORMAL...    sharon

Lissak When I was told I would have chemo..the first question I asked NOT will I be cured, but WILL I LOOSE MY HAIR?!!! IT is now goin on two months since my last chemo. Wore wigs and hair coverings since April and as you see in my avatar.. i am goin as is and without any more coverings. IT is all doable, but it takes each of us a time to adjust and adapt to one of the most traumatic things.. at least it is to me!!!!

Everyone here is just amazing and am grateful to have met such incredible Warriors who are strong, proud and beautiful!!!!

JUDY - I sent you a pm last night.

HI Ladies,  I'm caught up in getting ready to get out of town tomorrow.  Hope you all are well.  I've been yelling at the computer trying to get my pic posted.  My husband had to post a link on another thread to pics for my get together.  If I can't get this when I get back I'll have to do the same for my hair pic.  Have a great week.  HUGS to ya all, Dawn

Lassix, I heard you could use an old shoulder pad and that will work well.

DonnaDio: you've got a lot of hair for just two months out!  I have a little less than you and I'm 11 weeks today and spend about 50% of my time "as is" (I like that term) and 50% in a baseball hat.  Sort of depends on where I'm going.  My family is supportive when I say I'm not wearing my hat...but tested my daughter the other morning when she said I'm fine without.  Then I told her that I would be popping by her school to drop something off.  How quickly her support wavered when she begged me to keep the hat on.  She's 10 and meant no harm, but she's my gauge for when I will be able to have a hat burning party!

Thanks for the pictures!  It's fun to out a face to a name!

Happy to report that I put a little volumizing mousse in the hair last night just to play around and it's actually thickening up enough to try and get it to be messy-tousled, rather than just laying stiffly across my scalp.  Bald spot is slowly filling in or coming over, I can't tell which.

I wish i could ask your ten year old, it i would look ok if i was a teacher in her class!!!! She will be so proud of you when she is older and how you handled yourself thru this jounrey!!! Burning ceremony sounds like a great bonding experience for you to and give closure to that time!!!

Hey everybody, Love the messges here. They are always upbeat.  Question for those whose hair came back during chemo docetaxol/taxtore. I have stubble that is brillo pad  hard. Do I keep shaving till it starts to come in soft???

Stef58 - it will get softer as it fills in and grows - but some women shaved theirs until they were finished with chemo.  I kept mine and it has turned softer as it grew (and continues) to grow in.

    Hi Ladies,

It's four o'clock in the morning and i can't sleep again, so I started reading this thread. Loved reading about all of your progress. It's fun reading the joy and excitement you are all experiencing. Color, no color, gerber baby look, curls!!! Oh, I can hardly wait.

It's 6 wks PFC for me. Thankfully my dh finally confirmed I do have peach fuzz, not just imaginary pf. I wanted it so bad, I convinced myself I had it. My eyebrows are continuing to fall out (count -1 on the right side, 4 on the left side), lashes are gone. Although, I noticed my lashes have a few little stubs, so I'm a little encouraged. It is true everyone reacts so differently to the chemo cocktails...it's just a matter of time and patience. I know hair will come!!!

I look forward to the five o'clock shadow look! Thanks for sharing all the photos and excitement. You got me through a long night. I'm heading back to bed and hoping for sweet hair dreams.

    Betsy
