Charmaine- My hair on top is also growing Straight up and is fuzzy but the sides & back are fine.  I thought it was weird and wondered if I should shave it off and start new. I don't want to though. I think I will just wait & see what happens.

My hair  first started coming in white, fuzzy and straight on top.  Now I see dark hairs coming through as well.

I was told to shave off the white chemo hair but I just couldn't bring myself to shave off GROWING hair!

Now the white hairs are almost 3/4" long in some places and the top of my head feels like carpet!

Unfortunately, my story is not good. I am 8 months PFC and my hair has not grown in well. It is very, very thin and I still have a bald spot at the top of my head and my scalp shows through on the entire crown. Also  the growth is painfully slow ... like maybe 1 or 2 mm a month so there still isn't even enough to trim. I have recently started using Minoxidil but even that takes 3 - 5 months to show any results. I'm not weairng a wig but I wear a hat all the time when I'm out of the house. It is very depressing as it doesn't allow me to move forward. I was on the TC protocol - 4 rounds.

Charmaine - I shaved my white fuzzy chemo hair a couple of times and then it started coming in evenly but really curly so I've kept it very short and still wearing it very short but I like it.

I told my DH and DD that I thought I needed a hair cut. After we all had a good laugh, I think I seriously do need one from what I read here.  I had my hair buzzed on shave attachment #3 a couple of weeks after my first chemo.  It never all feel out but it thinned a lot and I have bald spots.  Now it appears more has grown in sporadically throughout treatment and I see more and more sprouting through (I'm almost 4 weeks PFC).  Anyway, the hairs that remained from my first buzz are a lot longer than the rest.  My thinking is I will need another buzz in a few weeks to even things out so it all grows in the same length. Thoughts?

My hair started growing back quite well after what I thought was my last chemo on January 23rd.  It turns out that I was just taking a break for surgery and will restart chemo next week.  Now, I'm curious, will I go through the hair falling out thing all over again?!

Sherri (and everyone) - I'm about 1 month ahead of you. Last chemo was 1/6. I'd say that my head is now covered with hair ... white and quite fuzzy on top and white and very fine on the back and sides. It is definitely filling in, what were bald patches a month ago now have growth. The hair on the crown of my head is shortest of all and seems to be coming in slower. It's all different lengths but since it's covered with a hat or scarf 90% of the time, I'm going to just let it grow and resist the temptation to shave it or cut it all to one length. Perhaps when it's longer than 1 inch, I'll have my hair stylist even it out. I'm taking biotin 2x daily and using Nioxin 2. I really noticed a growth spurt after using the Nioxin products for about a week, but, that could've been just a coincidence.

I have a question that may seemed odd..

Do any of you go to bed with a head cover (hat of sorts)...   The reason that I ask, is that I have noticed sides of my head where I sleep the most is not much hair coming in and I wonder if it would make a difference as for hair coming in if I slept with something on my head?

Have any of you had a 6-7 week gap in chemo?  I have no complaints about the way my hair is coming in but I start chemo (after a break for surgery) next Wednesday.  I'm just wondering if I will lose my hair again?!

Charmaine, I'm still in TC treatment (2 down, 4 more to go).  About hair, the sides and the back were the first to go.  After losing all hair right before treatment #2, I now have some stubble on the top but virtually nothing on the sides.  I do wear a sleep hat but do not think that makes a different as far as hair growth.  I hope yours grow soon and fast!

Bold - I would love to see the extensions.  Do you have Skype?  You can take pictures with your skype camera and then download to computer and upload to bc.org.  I sound like I know what I'm talking about - lol!!  It worked for me once.

Bold, would love the see the extensions, too! That's awesome! How many inches of growth did you have before you put them in? Would love the name of the person that did your extensions (I am in Woodland Hills)...I know I am at least 5-8 months from that, but it is something to look forward to!

hrf..I am so sorry to hear about your hair growth troubles. Have you cut your hair at all in the past few months? The ends of your hair are chemo ends that are full of chemical and need to be trimmed off. The ends will split and break off unless cut off.  I think that will help somewhat. Good luck!!

Sherri, I would say that yes you will lose your hair again, since the hair starts to fall out about 17 days after the first treatment, normally.  How many more chemos do you have to do?  I am hoping  for you that you don't  lose your hair again, I will keep my fingers crossed  for you.

Charmaine, I sleep with something on my head, because it helps me stay warm.  I had very thick  hair before and I am 10 weeks PFC.  My head is covered with hair, it is longer on the sides and back than the crown.  At first it was very white and fuzzy, but now that some of it is at least 1/2 inch long, I am beginning to see some color.  I was already about 50% gray before chemo, so it will be interesting to see what color it comes in.  It is laying down and not sticking straight up.

I am hoping that when my hair is about 1/2 in longer I will be able to go with out a wig.  I just don't know how much longer I can cope with the wigs and scarves.  I guess I will just have to put my big girl panties on and cope.

    Hello!

I finished Taxotere and Cytoxan at the end on Nov. 2009 and my hair has been growing back grey, I am salt and pepper... I hate it!

My natural hair color pre-chemo was light brown, but I had colored it blonde for years. I just hope it goes back to any color but grey!

Here is a link to "hair stories" by Karin Stak. She took pictures of her hair regrowth and got to exhibit them. They are great!

    Hi girls,

I have been reading a lot of this thread in recent times.  I had really long thick curly red hair prior to chemo, had really fine white 'baby hair' during chemo (TC x 4).  I finished chemo Dec 30th 2009 and its SLOWLY starting to grow back!  Like many of you, I dont think it looks anything like my original colour - its brown with some white/grey through it! Its really sparce on the top of my head but growing like crazy elsewhere.  HOPING I will be wigless by end of March but this may be a bit optimistic...........!!

goldie 0827 (Lori) - I just found your hair pictures on your profile - thank you so much for posting this - it is excellent! I realise I just need to wait patiently and I will get some proper growth too.  I loved your curls by the way!!  You look fantastic in your recent pic too!

ccbaby - I checked out those really short hair styles and have picked out the one I want when Im able to...thanks for posting!!

    Happy hair-growing everyone!!

NavyMom, when I was getting dressed this morning, I tried some of my husband's Axe cream to try and make mine stand up.  No go, it just isn't long enough yet.  I am hoping like Treadshoftly, that I will be without a wig or scarf by the end of March.  I think it is just wishful thinking on my part. but we have to believe don't we?

Well, I am ready to go to rads and after today I only have 3 treatments left.  The ligfht at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger and brighter every day.

Whoo Hoo  I should be able to do this as I am a photographer. Its a bit blown out but I was in the car. Its a little edgy. I wanted more of a China Phillips but gor a posh spice. I guess I just don't take myself so seriously anymore. It truly is all good.
