Although I have LOTS of wigs - at least 8 -  I wear my "good" wig most of the time.

Nowadays I wear mostly the one in my profile pic (my "good" wig) and an underhat wig (all real hair).

My good wig was custom fit to my head and is made of part human hair and part synthetic.  It is not itchy at all and I'm not sure why you all are wearing something under your wigs?

My wig fitter never told me about wearing anything under my wig and she's been in business over 30 years!

I've been wearing my wig right against my scalp since October without any trouble.

MarieK - the reason I'm wearing something underneath is because lately I've been wearing the inexpensive Raquel Welch wigs (I have two) and they get a bit itchy without my make-shift wig liner. My "good" wigs from the hospital don't itch at all but they are long, heavy and kind of hot and I'm liking the ease of the short synthetic wigs these days. I am having fun mixing things up a bit, though.  My neighbours never know what I'll be wearing when I leave the house. :)

    Hi Sherri,

Thank you for your email in reference to my wig cap liner.  I am trying to imagine how you describe cutting leggings >>>  I cannot get it into my mind hmmm

Charmaine - I probably didn't describe it well.  I take the legs from the tights and cut them into bands....almost like a very wide headband. I got quite a few of these from one pair of tights.

Again I have to ask - why do you need to wear a headband under your wig?  I don't get it!

Hmmm... I have an expensive human hair wig that I LOVE and wear all the time.  I never have a problem with styling it (in fact ALL I do is brush it).  I also got some very comfy wig caps/liners from TLC Direct (I think their website is www.tlcdirect.com) ... 100% cotton and I think I got 2 for $12 and it's a natural/nude color that does not show through/read as anything other than skin... makes ALL the difference as far as comfort.  Before I got the wig caps the wig I have was VERY itchy... after: not itchy at all.  I can wear the wig for hours and hours.

Marie I'm not sure why mine was itchy but it was.  It's not lined.  There are different kinds of wigs and this is one that is meshy and designed so that you can see through the part to your scalp (which makes it look VERY real).  BTW, your wig is wonderful!  I would not have guessed that the hair in your pic/avatar was anything else but your real hair!  WTG!

Marie - I think I can understand your confusion. My good wigs have a cap the has the strands hand sewn in and are therefore very comfortable on the head but for the high price of them that's to be expected. They can also be parted any which way and the part line looks very real and natural.  The less expensive (under $100)....don't have the same technology.  They can be more uncomfortable and can feel itchy, especially around he band. That said, I think the Raquel Welch wigs I've bought on eBay are very nice, lightweight and comfortable (with the liner on), look good and I "enjoy" wearing them more than my wigs that cost $$$$. The wig in your photo looks very nice.

Actually my wig was VERY expensive and is hand sewn (strand by strand of real hair) as Sherrie describes but IS still itchy... maybe I'm just overly sensitive?  At any rate the inexpensive cotton liner I wear makes it very comfortable for me to wear for 12 hours or more (which can often be how long my day is).

On the subject of wigs -- how would I go about donating my nice monofilament wig, worn a total of once? It's sort of a salt and pepper or gray color, chin length with bangs. It needs a home where someone will do more than swear at it as it sits on the shelf in the closet. Really, it's a very nice synthetic wig, cost about $200 and like I said, I wore it once. I know someone could use it.

I just want to ask the other gals who shaved off their "peach fuzz" this weekend if there is any signs of any growing back yet?  I know it's early, but just wondering, since leg hair (and men's beards) produces stubble so quickly.  I don't notice anything yet on me.  It still feels baby smooth.  I hope I made the right decision.  I just got so tired of it.

Weety - I am 7.5 months pfc and I also had a peach fuzz on my cheeks when my hair started to come in. I did shave it off and for the most part, it did not come back.

There is a slight covering now on my cheeks, but I try not to pay too much attention to it. I think that once my hair on my head started to grow in, I was less bothered by the face.

    Hope this helps.

    Hugs to all, Judy xoxox

    Hi Lottie,

I know that our local American Cancer Society office accepts donations of wigs, and they are free to anyone who needs them.  Hope this helps.

    Lottie,

I had started a thread called "freebies" it is not very active, but you could try posting there, maybe someone here on bco could benefit from it.

Bold - WOW, you are one hot mama!!!!  I LOVE the extensions.  I can't wait until my bangs are that long - I might keep my hair shorter (yes, I did say shorter - I know, I know, after all of the promises that I would never have short hair), but I do want some length at least like yours.  You look gorgeous - worth every dollar!

    Hi Bold,

You look fabulous!  I have been thinking about extensions and I would pay $300 in a flash to have the head of hair you have!  Here's my questions...how long was your hair when you got the extensions?  Are they permanent..do they just grow out like natural hair?  It looks like you have a great style going on, even if you did just get bangs,  how long is the hair on the side of you head?

You look just great, but I can tell from your thoughtful words and your articulate postings that you are much, much more than just a pretty face,  Thanks for sharing with us your latest news on this journey.

What the....? I am 13 1/2 MONTHS PFC and when I woke up this morning my top lashes were all little stubs AGAIN.  This is the 4th or 5th time!

Jane - that has happened to me 4-5 times also.  Also on the brows.  My lashes are just now coming in again and the brows are still struggling.  My onc said it was arimedex but I just don't know.  I am sick of drawing on brows.  My stubby lashes....lots of mascara but scary looking.  I am also 13 months PFC.

Jane & Bobcat.......so sorry about that. And to all the other gals that have gone through that. Losing eyelashes and brows, time and time again. Unless Arimidex affects everyone differently, I have never lost my eyelashes and brows once they came back from chemo. I was done with chemo in Sept 08, been on Arimidex since Oct 08. My chemo was A/C x 4 then Taxol x 4. Each 3 weeks apart.

Sure hope it ends soon for you gals,    "HAIR FAIRY?????"

I have finished radiation.  It was so much easier than chemo.  I have been doing the happy dance since about 4:00 this afternoon.  I don't know what I am going to do with all my spare  time.

My eye lashes are coming back in and they are short, but I can get mascara on them.  I still have about 4 long ones on each eye.  I think they look pretty funny.  Last week I couldn't even wear mascara, because there was nothing there but the 4 long lashes.  Or so it seemed anyway.

My hair is coming in and I think my scalp is covered, but I do want it to be a little longer before I give up the wig.  I did find the Nioxin today at a wig shop, so I am going to give it a try and see if I notice a difference.

Hoping everyone is having a good evening.

Juanelle - did it take a while for the scalp to be covered?  It's been four weeks since I finished chemo.  I can see some new hair coming in but it doesn't look like it's all coming in at the same time.  For some reason, I just figured a month after chemo, it would all start to come through at the same time.  Maybe it was wishful thinking.

Sherri, at about 4 weeks PFC I had hair on the sides and back, but hardly any on the crown.  I was worried that it was going to be awhile before it started growing on the top.  By 6 weeks, it started coming in and was very white, no color anywhere on my head.  By 8 weeks, I was beginning to see color, am not sure  what color it will be, but it will not all be gray.  I am now 11 weeks PFC and each day I can feel more hair.  It is probably about 1/2 inch long on top now, but still close to my scalp.  I want it to look like I just got it cut really short, so I think in 3 or 4 weeks it may be long enough.  We all  have wishful thinking about our hair.  I had very thick hair before and I do believe that it is coming in as thick as it was.

Sherri - I'm 9 weeks PFC and my scalp is mostly covered with hair, mostly white w/ some "pepper" mixed in. Hair at the crown of my head definitely came in slower. It is much longer on the back and the sides. I'm thinking at this point that I can give up the hats and scarves in about a month.

    Good luck everyone!

I'm 15 weeks since my last chemo. I took a while before I had hair everywhere.

Right now, I have more hair on top and back than on the sides and crown. It grew back grey and white (it used to be light brown), and the texture so far seems the same as pre-chemo (straight, neither thin nor thick).

I still cannot go out without a headcarf on, I'm very self-conscious. I hope that in one month I'll be brave enough to do so.

I'm following several blogs about breast cancer (alright tit, rosa lump) and one of them is about hair regrowth:

    http://hairgrowthafterchemo.wordpress.com/2010/02/24/week-7/

I'm also giving the link to Karin Stack for those who haven't checked it out yet:

What I've learned about hair regrowth is to be patient!!!

    Hello Sherri/ Sugar77 !

I'm glad you enjoyed the "hairstories" by Karin Stack! The flipbook is very cool. What a great idea.

I actually am taking pictures of my hair regrowth too and plan on putting small black and white pics of my hair regrowth all together in a frame. I admit, I'm totally copying her... !
