Bold-- from Julie Andrews to Rock n' Roll Sex Kitten!  Woot!  I LOVE that look.  I honestly never considered hair extensions but now I will.  How long will they stay in?  How long was your hair to begin with (i.e. how much hair does one need for the extensions to be affixed to?)  WHO CARES WHAT IT COST?  You look MAH-velous.

Sugar, I am not sure how much of the ends exactly would be chemo hair, but I cut the tip ends off of my hair every 4 to 5 weeks after chemo ended and it really helped.

TreadSoftly....Your welcome and which one did you pick out?

Bold...SEXY SEXY!!! I am so jealous!! And I want to be your friend on Facebook!

    Hello Juannelle,

I have thought about wearing a nighttime (bedtime) hat, and seeing if it would make a bit of a difference with the way the hair grows (as I tend to sleep more on one side of the head than I do the other (and have notice that there is lack of hair growth on that side as a result) hmmm

Oh pre chemo more than 50 % of my hair was grey (salt and pepper) unless I dyed it and now like I have mentioned the white..  I am exactly just over 1 month and 3 days since my last chemo treatment and have bit more hair noticeable just on tops and some starting to come in on the sides now and hardly on the back at all.  It will be interesting to see more hair gradually come in all over and what color it will turn to eventually and/or if it stays white hmmm

When my radiation treatments are over with in another 2 weeks and a bit, am going to go for a wig.  It has been mentioned to me that I first have to get a head covering to wear under the wig hmmm

Marion, thank you so much for sharing these 'hair stories' .   I noticed on one of her pictures that her hair at some point was growing upwards like mine is right now (1 month post chemo)...   so this makes me feel less self conscious... and the pictures give me a vivid idea of how the hair may grown.

It was appreciated, thank you again! Charmaine

I actually cried reading your posts.(well teared up not sobbed or anything.) Who could of imagined where we came from and where we are. So much beauty and so much fear and struggle . From the bottom of my now damaged herceptin heart I thank you for you generous kindness. We are all sexy kittens. ( although I can count the times that I have initiated an amours tryst in the last year) Pretty dry and complications come to play) We are really pretty cool. I mean come on we run households  Some of us give a a lot to other people..... children, jobs, charity......Husband ( less I forget)  and keepers of dreams. Nurturing goddesses ( I use the term loosely) that love and so need to be loved. I thank you and need you and love you!!! (maybe a bit over the top.)

Hey this is coming from a comedian. Some times life get very complicated, but knowing that others have forged this road and are on this road we are on,(A lot of you beauties out there are a bit  better than I) makes us resonate and gives us solace and dare I say hope. ( hope is an emotion and not a strategy)

     Oh boy here she goes...........................................................................!

BOLD!!!!!  You looked good with short hair, but WOW!!!!  Goldie you posted some short hair pic's and I just loved one of them, but my printer was broken and so I just got my new Canon all-in-one printer and copied it!!  I'm so excited, I can now show my stylist what style I would like.  I'm sticking with short hair, since I work outside and wear a hat most of time, and at 53 I'm a little to old for long hair.  Besides I'm kind of getting used to the idea, my hair is going to continue to be fine in texture PFC. I've been getting regular trim's since my hair was ready for it, and I still have chemo. hair and it's been 14 months post chemo./rads. I want to repeat my age, 53, 53, 53....since I have my birthday on the 20th.  I look forward to the first day of spring!!!  But it brings up memories.  I had my core biopsy on March 17th 08, and I knew it was positive.  The doctor and nurse had the sad faces, I'm sure we've all seen.  On my birthday I had beautiful dinner on the deck of a 4 star restaurant, looking over the Napa Valley, and we all had a great time. Now two years later, I can look forward to another year, PFC!!!  I think I'll celebrate!!!!

Bold.....just gorgeous, and quite the look.

SherryV....I don't know.  I never lost all my hair and it started to grow back towards the end of AC.  I thought I would lose it during Taxol, but am now six weeks into it, and only my eyebrows/eyelashes have come out.

I am thinking of rocking a Julie Andrews look when things get a bit longer, but as in Victor/Victoria when she does Le Jazz Hot and takes off the headdress.  Suspect this will be sometime in May.

Then a series of fun looks I never would have tried otherwise!

On brows/lashes, I suspect the reason they often fall out/grow back quickly is that they are programmed to restart the growth cycle, so push out anything remaining.  Really odd to need to fill in my brows and make more, as opposed to trimming/shaping.

Will go back to haircolor as soon as reasonable.  Just not doing dull.  Also realize that "hair generally grows in white post chemo" will be the perfect "white lie" to cover the fact that I am really salt and pepper.  Should work until I get some heavy duty color on my tresses.

Again thank you all for you kindness.  I want to explain how extensions are done. They are small tufts of real hair  that are adhered with Teflon. Then with a heated iron they are pressed to a small equal hair tuft of your own hair. VOILA! You got hair long flowing hair. (hair the musical reference) It ain't cheep! 300 dollars and all I got were bangs. For those who are lookin for me on face book. I am rita bold.

Hello ladies--Well, I am done with it.........I will not wear that wig ever again.  I hated it from the first time I had to wear it to the last time I did wear it(yesterday).  It is not that it wasn't attractive or that people didn't like it,  I hate it.  It screams CANCER everytime I take it out of the box.  So...I am done with it.  I am 3 months and 6 days PFC.  My hair is 1/2 to 3/4 inch long and does cover my scalp.  It,too has the Cancer Cap look........but it is mine and I am going with what I have.

Thanks for listening to me rant.  Have a good day

Navymom, congrats on getting rid of the wig. That is such a big milestone that we go through. As far as ranting....rant away! I think we all have done that at one time or another!

Congrats NavyMom and Gillyone for going "topless" ! You're a lot more courageous than I am !

My hair is one inch long and I still cannot go out without a headcarf. I'm still very self conscious and is not ready to show my post-chemo hair.

I actually had to set a deadline .. my upcoming birthday at the end of March will be the day when I remove the headscarf... If I don't have a deadline, I will never remove the headscarf because I will always think that it is not long enough!

Navymom, I am right there with you.  I am 10 weeks PFC and I want to be out of the head dress at 3 months.  My hair is about 1/2 in long around the sides and back and maybe 1/4 on the top.  I have very thick hair and just a little more length and my scalp will be covered.  Each day it feels thicker and thicker. Congratulations on your new adventures and I hope I am as brave as you when the time comes.

WOW~ Gill!  I just checked out your recent pic and you have quite a bit of hair on your head.  It looks great!

I really admire you ladies that are setting hair "goals" for yourselves!  That's a great idea and I've never thought of that - I'm going to give myself 1 more month of growth and then set a reasonable goal to go topless.

When I see these early PFC hair photos it reminds me of Jean Seberg and Mia Farrow.

    mia_farrow

When I was 14 I went from bum length hippie chick hair to a haircut like Jean's first photo above!

My mother just about killed me for cutting it that short and I did grow it long - never cutting it that short again.

But now I have the opportunity to grow out my gray & white hair and try out a shorter haircut.  I find it very exciting!

My hairdresser (I saw her yesterday to have my daughter's bum length hippie chick hair cut to her shoulders) tells me I shouldn't wear my hair gray because I have such a young face and the first thing everyone notices is your hair!  She's afraid my first impression will be "old".

She suggested that I style and colour my hair like my wig (in my profile pic)!  I'll reserve judgement until I actually hair that I can do something with.

Right now mine is almost 1 inch long - more on the top than on the sides and back.

Happy Hair Growing to You ALL!

Recently read somewhere that gray hair is all the rage and even young people are dyeing their hair shades of gray.  Well, I fit right in with my salt and pepper.  Colored for years and won't do it again.  I wear my hair very short anyway so it would be a big upkeep to color.

Okay ladies, I finally did it!  I shaved off all the weird downy, peach fuzz I had on my face.  I read about others doing this, and in most cases it didn't grow back, but I'm veeerrrryyy nervous that I just made a HUGE mistake!  Anyone else do this?

WEETY!!!!  I did the same thing just this morning!  I just couldn't stand it anymore!   Geez I hope that fuzz is gone for good.  I have read on the threads that others have shaved it off and it never came back.  I do hope we are that lucky.

Marie, I love the pictures and I am not sure that my hair will do any of those  hair styles, but  I am ready to try.   Mine will be salt  and pepper also, maybe with more salt.  I stopped coloring my hair several years ago, because I didn't want to spend the time that it took to keep it.

I also have had to shave my cheeks, it  is very downy, I didn't worry about it, I guess if I have to shave, I have to shave.  Another life change.

I did have to shave my legs yesterday.  I was so excited.  I am ready for hair.

    For those wearing wigs...

Is there a special cap that one should wear under a wig to prevent itching and etc.  The cancer support centre that I go to most often has 'synthetic wigs' (as the real hair goes fast).

I have about 17 radiation treatments left and then I am gonna go and check out the different wigs and get me one :)

Charmaine - I had inquired about a cap liners myself at the wig store at the hospital and looked on eBay.  However, I didn't want to pay $10.00 each for one so I rigged up my own version.  I took a pair of tights that had a run in them and simply cut each leg into sections and put them under my wig.  They are extremely comfortable and cheap.  The leggings I had were a cotton blend so it feels nice on the head.  If you don't have any tights on hand, many stores have them on clearance now as the new spring stuff is coming out.

Regarding wigs...I have two really good ones from the hospital wig store.  One is a human hair that was cut and styled to match my old hair, which was long. The other is a human/synthetic blend in a similar style.  To be honest, I don't wear them much at all.  The human hair one is heavy and needs a lot of work to style and I feel kind of guilty because my mom bought it for me and I can count how many times I've worn it.  On a lark, I bought a short Raquel Welch wig on eBay and I love it and wear it most days.

You can also cut the sleeve out of a cotton t-shirt and use it under a wig.  That is what they told us at the LGFB (Look Good Feel Better) meeting.  I didn't try it, because I had already bought something to go under the wig.  I almost never think out of the box.  I also bought some wide hair bands and have worn them under my scarves and wigs.

I am like Sherri on the wigs, I have an expensive human hair one that I just can't seem to get it styled like I like it and it is lots of work to keep it styled.  I bought a cheaper synthetic one and that is the one that I wear most of the time.  It is really easy to keep, just wash and wear.  If I had it to do over again,  I would not buy a human hair wig, but would have bought several synthetic ones.  Now after saying that, there is a big difference in the fit between the real hair and the synthetic.  The expensive wig, feels very good on and the cap fits up against my head, where the cheaper ones fit loosley and pull off easily.  I didn't realize the difference until after I had worn them for awhile.

    Good luck on your shopping.
