Sherri: your hair is beautiful. Everybody else's before and after photos look so different, but you still look like the same person just with a snazzier 'do. It looks so uniform in color and length and sits nicely at the ears. Did you color or trim it yet?

Mary - thanks! Yes, I had it trimmed the week before the photo and had a demi glaze put on to even it out and had some sort of protein treatment done. My "after" is quite different than my "before" in real life but in the avitar photo, it was twisted up in a clip as it was long.

Sugar77, you have way more hair than I do. Mine is really growing and filling on the top of my head and growing very slow in the back. I am also noticing that what would be my bangs are much much shorter and not growing. My natural part used to be on the right side but now seems to be growing on the left......strange!

You all look fabulous!  Thanks for sharing your hair growth photos.

Here I am with my Donald Trump comb over.  My hair has really started sprouting in the last week - is it the Nioxin and Biotin or just timing?  I'm almost 17 weeks PFC.

It kind of looks like steel wool.  I'm going for a trim this Wed to take off the chemo ends and shape it towards my version of the Jamie-Lee Curtis look.

Not sure if you can see my eyelashes but they are like "blinky" doll eyelashes.  Much MUCH longer and fuller than pre-chemo.  I used Rapid Lash on both my eyelashes and eyebrows and again - not sure if it was just timing or if it really helped - but it sure didn't hurt!

Sherri -- your hair looks FAB!

Marie -- wow SO much hair already and yeah I can see the lashes (adorable).

Mine is sort of like Sherri's but a tad longer and maybe thinner (a little).  It looks nicer on Sherri :)

Gals, you may have mentioned these before.  What types of Nioxin or Biotin products do you use?  There is a Nioxin Hair Booster.  Is this one good?

This Wednesday (in 2 days) is my last TC treatment.

MBJ,you may want to think long and hard b4 getting  extensions in your hair.Your hair at this point is very delicate, and putting in extensions may just pull out what you have, and i don't think you want that.Notice people that you know that wear extensions and look how much their hairline has receded.

Our heads are very delicate during and after chemo.I'm 15mos PFC and while i have hair,it's nothing like it was before chemo. It's as straight as a poker, has no body and seems kinda dry to me.One morning i put rollers in it,something i hadn't used for decades, left them in all morning, and when i took them out,my hair didn't look any different,it was still poker straight.

Before chemo i had very thick, baby fine, with some wave in it,and it was salt and pepper. The salt and pepper is the only part that is the same. It's also very fly away!!

Wow Mary you have a lot of hair for just 15weeks PFC.Lookin' good.

Marie - love the baby doll lashes...mine are still 'barely there' and I have not wore mascara since mid way through chemo just to save what I did have (didn't work very well)

Faith, I am using the nioxin #2.  Shampoo, then creme rinse then the follicle booster and then the scalp activating treatment.  I am 5 1/2 months pfc and my hair is 2 inches long.  I had just a teeny weeny trim one week ago.  My hair is now brown(was a blond before) and very straight.  Congrats on coming to the end of treatment.

Sherri and Marie, you both look wonderful and so beautiful.  I hope you both are showing off the beautiful hair.  Marie, you are on your way to the Jamie Curtis look.  I think it  will look great on you.

I had a trim about a week ago.  You can see that it is coming in with a reddish color, it doesn't look much different than before chemo, except shorter.  I don't know how long I will let it grow.  I get  lots of compliments and it is so easy to take care of.  Sorry about the large size of the pictures, I need to go through some other program.

Juanelle: your hair color is really similar to that in your avatar! The texture and curl look good.

If you want to resize either photo, just click the edit button under your post, then right-click the photo, choose image properties and adjust the numbers under dimensions. You could try halving both numbers, hit update and see how that looks in preview. When you're satisfied, hit save.

faithfulc - I was using Nioxin 2 (shampoo, conditioner and foam scalp treatment) for a few weeks but when I went to my regular hair dresser for the first time a week ago, he said to stop using it. Instead he suggested I go back to using Biolage moisturizing shampoo and conditioning balm, which I used to use before chemo.  I must admit, it does feel much nicer since I've stopped using the Nioxin as it was much dryer then. He says Nioxin has alcohol in it among other things that I don't need. He wanted me using Biolage because one of the ingredients is sage and that is good for my hair growth.

MarieK - your hair is coming in very nicely. I hope you get the cut you want before you head East for your trip!

Juanelle - I like the wave that's coming in on your hair and the color is fantastic. I can see why you're getting compliments!

Ladies, your photos are so encouraging!  I am only 2 1/2 weeks post chemo so I have hair envy!  I am praying about that!!!

I bought Babor hair stop loss.  I thought it would come in a bottle but it comes in 6 vials.   It doesn't say how often to do the treatments.  The liquid is supposed to strengthen the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.  I am debating whether to send it back or use it and not reorder it.  I think it will be pretty expensive to use on a regular basis.   If I use it, I will report back.

     Happy Hair Growing everyone!

Hi Ladies, its great to see such wonderful photos of  hair growth!

charmaine - I think your hair is coming in lovely, and the patch at the back really isnt that noticeable....

sherri - you look great, the colour looks really natural and even!

Juanelle - I love the colour and wave!

MarieK - your hair looks so thick!

MarieNY  - like you, the very last patch of hair to grow was right at the front, above my forehead.  It was 3-4 weeks behind the rest, but Im happy to report its grown in really well and now there is no difference in my hair thickness.  Im approaching 20 weeks PFC and the curls are getting tighter by the day!

kathimdgd:  I don't know anyone with extensions nor do I know anything about extensions.  Just impatient about my hair.  I really hate the though of having to wear a wig through summer.  I have to admit, I am pretty vain.  All of my life I have looked younger then my age now all of a sudden I look like an old lady with white and grey hair all over!  I had a few greys but nothing like this.  My eyebrows are slowly growing in and my eyelashes too, although they all are quite crooked and not quite right.

I go to get a bit of a trim tomorrow, if you can call it that, to get rid of the chemo hair and even the length of it all and save what I can of it.  Trying to decide if I should add color to it yet or if I should just wait.  I have been dying my hair various shades of brown for years and without dye I was never able to do much with it.  Not into "natural" and wearing a crew cut isn't what I think looks attractive on me.  I really don't want anyone treating me differently because I had cancer.  Anyway, sorry for the rant.

I love the photo's!  Everyone's hair looks great.

I noticed most of you mention Nioxin my doc recommended Rogaine for women.  Is there a difference?

I'm 7 weeks PFC (TC) and this wig is getting hot!  My hair is about 1/2 inch long and super soft, my kids keep rubbing my head.  Before chemo I had extremely thick corse wavy hair.

Getting ready to start Chemo.....is losing our hair a 'given' for all chemo meds?  I know it's a dumb question, and I am really  not all that concerned about losing my hair (well, I kind of am...I'm at least trying to be okay with it).....I feel so ignorant about all of this, so hence the dumb questions.

Jenny - There are no dumb questions on bc.org.  There are cocktails that only cause thinning but I do not know which ones they are.  I do know that Taxotere/Cytoxan (my cocktail) were pretty much a 'given' for hair loss.  Best wishes for SE free chemo

Janny99- Ditto on the dumb questions.....there is no such thing here...you can ask anything! Like o2bhealthy said not all chemo causes complete baldness it depends on the cocktail, I can only speak from my own experience. I lost all of my hair on the TAC cocktail, ( taxotere, adriamycin and cyclophosphamide) I lost hair fast, before my second treatment but not all of my hair till about halfway thru. To tell you the truth I really didn't care about the hair loss during treatment, it was quite obvious I was having chemo, I didn't care till after treatment when I had no idea how slow it would grow back...hence this board. Good luck to you, hang in there....and remember, there are no dumb questions! {{{HUGS}}} Donna

I also will ditto on that "NOT a dumb question"!  I would ask your Oncologist that question.  Mine told me I would 100% lose my hair soon after my second treatment and she was spot on.  I had my hair buzz cut just before the second treatment and by the end of week one after second treatment it started falling out in handfuls (so I was glad I cut it).  I have to say before chemo -- when I found out I had to have it -- the ONLY thing that I cared about was the fact that I was going to have to lose my hair.  I found that info devastating.  Now that I'm way past it and my hair is growing back (albeit way too slowly) I have to say it's not so bad.  It's just hair.

janny99, I was devastated when I found out I was going to have chemo and lose my hair.  I cried for days and days,  I had it buzzed about a week after my first treatment.  But I have to admit that once it was gone, it was no big deal.  I never held on to the illusion that I wouldn't lose it.  My Onc was very honest about when it would start coming out.  Now saying all that, I am glad that I have hair now, although it is short, I havent't worn my wig in almost 2 months and I am 20 weeks PFC.

I think I have come to the end of my rope for staying too busy and not resting.  I have come down with an upper respiratory infection.  I went to the DR today and have all sorts of meds.  I know I will stay home tomorrow and see if I can get over this.  I called to check on my grandbaby and has a fever, but she could be cutting teeth, at least that is what I hope.  I  don't know how I managed to not get  anything like this when I was doing chemo.  But that is the breaks.

Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement and happy hair growing to everyone.

I had my hair cut about a week prior to chemo and cried every time I saw myself in a mirror for the first two weeks. It was not because of the hair cut, which everyone said was cute but because I would have NEVER cut my hair that short for any other reason...it was just one more blow to my already fragile self image.  My mother even expressed shock (and some frustration) over how I much I mourned the loss of my hair but not the loss of my breasts (well, they did tried to kill me...)

That being said, losing my hair, shaving my scalp because the remaining hair was driving me crazy and being bald really was anticlimactic for me.  I went topless (just couldn't do the hat, wig or scarf thing because it made me feel like a victim)

I am thrilled to have hair again although it is growing back SLOWLY.

Sherri - oh, you are so lucky to have so much hair.  It's hard to believe we finished chemo at the same time.  My hair is coming in but it is no where near as thick as yours!  Mine is about 1/2 long BUT very, very thin, like baby hair.  I would love to be able to go out without a hat but I am going to wait until my head is completly covered...hopefully soon.

Has anyone tried lavender and rosemary essential oils?  I was told that would help my hair grow...am going to give it a shot and see what happens.

So many of you have such beautiful hair!  Very nice to see!!!

I haven't been on for a couple of days and sorry if I missed your questions!

MBJ...I have never done extensions, but I do know that hair needs to be about 4 inches long for the extensions to last the longest.

Charmaine...If your hair is already grayish-white, then the hairdresser needs to pull your hair through a highlighting cap and put on a dark brown color to get the same look that Jamie Lee has. But your hair needs to be at least a couple of inches long before you can do it. She won't be able to pull enough hair through the cap if it is too short. And it is probably too short to use foils with lowlights.
