Donna I'm not sure there is an easy way to grow out short hair to long but I'm sure you'll get a lot of tips along the way!

I do remember when I went to high school I cut my bum length hair into a short pixie style - kind of like it is now but with longer bangs.  My mother almost died over that act of rebellion!

Then I decided to grow it out.  I was in grade 8 and by the time I graduated it was to my mid back again (so 5 years later). I looked back at my yearbook and other photos from that time and I remember now that the "growing out" was the hardest and most ugliest part of it.  For me my hair was all "flippy" and I had to wear a lot of pins/barrettes to keep the sides down.  Then as soon as I could it went into a ponytail and I wore it constantly like that until I could get a read "style".

As an adult I don't know how that will work out - you need to keep a presentable image if you are working and can't always pin your bits down or wear a ponytail - but I think if you can find a good hairdresser that is willing to work with you OVER TIME you can get to the style and length you want.

    Good luck with i!

Michelle your hair looks beautiful and soooo thick!  I know the big photos are a bit alarming but it really does help us to see it how much hair you have.

Charmaine I really like that cut and colour on Jamie Lee too!  I think I'm half way there as far as colour - my back is much darker than the front.  I've been told that I have face framing gray!

Here's a personal topic for anyone who wants to reply - how is your hair in the nether regions?

Mine is very sparse but growing back somewhat.  I was kind of wondering what was going on down there and then I read that with the lack of estrogen (from chemo pause) pubic hair may not come back as quickly or as much as before.

MarieK, The nether region, haha! Mine grew back with a vengence sort of like the bush of the 1970's...gross! I am constantly doing yard work, if you know what I mean! I too was in chemopause but am now on my second period after chemo, it came back at about 4 months PFC...all those hot flashes for nothing, hardly seems fair! I grew hair in the reverse order that I lost it.

Thank you all for the compliments!!! I am adjusting to having curls and what to do with this new style but am soooo happy to have hair again that I don;t stress too much over it.   AS far as nether regions, like buccaneer, I am constantly doing yard work too.   My leg hair has decreased dramatically so I only need to shave once every few weeks.

I laughed and laughed at the yard work! Not necessary for me but nether regions are growing. However, underarm on surgery/radiation side - nothing!!

Hair!  I never thought I would have such hair envy when I am out and about.  It seems that everyone but me has hair.  I just ordered a product (Babor?) today that is supposed to stimulate the hair follicles, encourage hair growth, and hair follicle stability.  Chemo brain-I can't remember the exact name of the product.  I should receive it in a few days.  If I have some increased hair growth I will share the name of the miracle product.

I am only 2 weeks from my last chemo treatment so I know it will take months to really have "showable" hair.  Right now I have a 1/8 inch of stubbly silver chick fuzz!  It's a start!   o2beheathly, your hair growth is very encouraging and lovely.

    Take care everyone!

I was really hoping that I would no longer have underarm hair on my surgery/rads side, but would you believe it that is growing again too!

2 weeks plus 1 day PFC, started Biotin on May 3rd after I was off all the Chemo post - meds. Well. Biotin seems to be working - there is definitely hair popping thru the scalp - all very dark for now. Plus some fuzz that never seemed to fall out during all the chemos. Hubby plans on giving that a trim in the next week or too as it is not healthy fuzz! Now, if the eyebrows would just come back!

I am enjoying everyones posting of pictures with various stages of hair regrowth, gives me something to compare too! Keep doing it!

Ok, reading about yard work was great!! That gave me a good laugh that was much needed. Now that we are talking about that area...I just told my doctor how my is oddly growing from the outer edges inward. She said I am the first person to ever tell her that one. The hair on my legs came back like it was before chemo, now if the hair on my head would catch up to that speed I would be in business. I noticed that I lost some lashes and some brows after I stopped chemo. Has anyone else had this happen?

Scarlettohred: I never lost eyebrows or eyelashes during chemo but they fell a few weeks after, like 4 weeks after the last chemo! Good news is : they grew back really quickly.

    Scarlett:

I lost my eyelashes and eyebrows twice weeks after AC 3 years ago.  Just finished TC in March and no eyelashes on one side and very thin brows on both sides.  Crazy!

I lost my eyebrows (and most of my eyelashes) about a week before the end of chemo, but they grew back very quickly. Now at three and a half month post-chemo, I notice they are thinning again. I didn't expect that.

As for the nether regions, like you scarlettohred, mine is growing from the outer edges inward. And it's jet black. If only the hair on my head would follow suit colorwise.

Scarlett - my lashes and brows thinned but hung on all through chemo. I thought I'd dodged that bullet and then they fell out 8 weeks after chemo ended. However, they came back very quickly. I could see the lashes in a few days and they grew in pretty fast.  Brows came back even faster. Hang in there!

Thanks everyone! That makes me feel better that my lashes and brows will fill in quickly. It was funny, I didn't notice then one day I was putting on mascara and there was nothing to brush on the bottom lashes.

MaryNY, I hear ya about the color. The hair on my head has lots more gray coming in than I ever had and the nether region is perfectly dark hair and straight...what is up with that??? LOL

15 months past chemo. and several weeks ago,  I noticed my eyelashes  thinned out and were busy growing new ones.  My arm hair, which is blond and not easy to see anyway, also fell out, and new growth is kinky. So girls you never know what will happen down road.

I have been reading your posts for weeks now. Hi Christy! Love your pics and hope my hair grows half so fast.

I am three months PFC and decided to go shopping w/o the scarf this week. My hair is about 1/2' long all over and was the mouse fur color so often described. It is very fine and still sparse. Last week I decided the heck with it and used one of L'oreal's blond colors. It took it just fine. Now, instead of looking ill or I just got got out of prison, I look like I am making a fashion statement. Or a Holmes on Homes groupie...  ;->

No one has been obvious about staring so far. The funniest part was when I went to my favorite fish market this morning. A woman works there who had always said "Hi! How are you!" before I started wearing scarves during chemo, but then stopped after that. This morning she again said, "Hi! How have you been? Haven't seen you in a while!" I just realized that she had not recognized me before, but now she does again even with my barely there hair.

Scarlet, my hair down there grew in the exact same way! We can't be the only ones...

As for eyebrows and eyelashes, the same as most everyone else. They held on all through chemo, vanished a few weeks after the last tx and then starting growing right back in again. I have a feeling the unnerving thinning down the line will be due to the fact that they are all on the same growth cycle. Usually only a few fall out at a time while the others hold on. I bought some generic Latisse which shortens the dormant cycle and am using it once or twice a week. Maybe it will help spread the cycles out like normal.

Lastly, a question. My arm hair held on to the last like my eyebrows and then fell out, too. Now, instead of the wonderfully soft skin that was the one side benefit of chemo, I have "hair bumps" all over my arms that feel awful. I have tried gently scrubbing with baking soda, but no luck. Any suggestions?

I lost my arm hair after the first round of chemo. It used to be dark but seems to be coming in light now. My upper thighs have the hair bumbs all over them, can't find anything to help. It looks and feels gross. Like a plucked chickens skin!!

How soon is it ok to color my hair? I had my last round of TC on March 3rd.

scarlettohred - I colored mine last week at 12 weeks PFC.  My last TC was Feb. 8th. I'm so glad I did it as it definately makes me feel better even though it is still very short.

Did everyone have their lashes grow back right away?  My bottom lashes on one eye came out after chemo was over, 5 weeks ago - but haven't come back in.  This makes me nervous they won't!

lovetosail - has your hair on your head started growing in yet?  My thoughts are the bottom lashes will come in all of a sudden when your body gets into "hair growth" mode.

lovetosail - I am 8 wks PFC and I've lost all of my bottom eye lashes. I only have a few upper lashes left and as of yet I don't see any new growth....and this also makes me nervous.  The hair on my head has started coming in very sparse and very fine... it's also all salt and pepper.  Are you getting Herceptin Infusions?  I wonder if the Herceptin slows the hair growth....as I'll be on it through December.

hey CinCan, I have that same blanket that you have wrapped around you in your picture!  5 galpals made it together.  They gave it to me at my pre-chemo party last August.  I brought it to every treatment.  Gave me so much comfort having that over me to keep me warm.

I am a very happy lady today.  I am a first time grandma.  Healthy baby boy born at 9lb 2oz 22 inches to son and DIL yesterday.  They are stationed in Jacksonville, FL.  I will be leaving to see them on the 25th.  Can't wait.

Cincan -- I've heard some say they think Herceptin slows hair growth (or rather that once they finished Herceptin hair growth was MUCH faster)... I am on Herceptin and I know it took a good 8 weeks PFC for me to even get 5 o'clock shadow!

Lilah - that's exactly what I have....a 5 o'clock shadow!  Every time someone asks me if my my hair has grown back now I know how to describe it.  What about your eyelashes?

Navymom - Congratulations Grandma!  Grandchildren are such a blessing... there's nothing like it!! My coworkers gave me the pink ribbon blanket and I use it everyday when I curl up on the couch to watch TV.  I LOVE IT!!! I seem to always be cold...I get hot flashes, but then I get the chills right after.  Go figure... very frustrating!
