Sherri: When I decide to get my hair colored, I would like it to be colored this exact color of Jamie Lee Curtis' hair color. It is absolutely beautiful.

ccbaby, thanks for posting those pics. Your hair looks great. I am 22 wks pfc and my hair is only 1 1/4 inch long. Even before BC, my hair grew very slowly so I am not expecting too much. I am hoping by getting the chemo tips cut off that it will inspire my hair to grow a little faster. I have my first hair appointment on Monday. I have been topless for the last several weeks. And "miranda"(my wig) has not been out of her box since March 6th. I never did like that thing.

About Wigs: I received 3 free wigs when I lost my hair. One was from the American Caner Society. Just went to their local office & picked one out.
Another was from Susan G. Komen. I just emailed them & asked if they provided free wigs & she said to choose a wig salon & just email her the phone number. She called them & gave them a dollar amount & I got to go choose any one I wanted.
Third one was from Crickett's Answer to Cancer orgaization. Same thing. Got it from a wig salon. So please don't "settle" for an ugly wig! Call or email! There is help available to us!

CCbaby: thanks for posting the pictures. You hair is getting long! I also found it difficult to find pictures of hair regrowth. I ended up finding a blog where a woman, who is currently 17 weeks PFC, posts pictures of her hair regrowth each week.
Chairmainejensenvoisine: I colored my hair 18 weeks PFC (4 1/2 months). I went to my hairdresser, because I wanted to make sure I got the color I wanted. Someone had mentioned that color can turn brassy on post-chemo hair. Plus, I have never colored my hair myself and did not feel like starting now. Most importantly, going to the hairdresser made me feel "normal," like when I used to have hair!
Last thing: my hairdresser used regular coloring products on me and the color turned out to be great. No special products.

ccbaby: your hair looks great in that series of photographs, even in the early stages. What color was your hair as it initially grew back? I'm now 14 weeks post-chemo. My hair came in all white. Gradually some dark hairs have made an appearance, but the overall look is light gray. I'm hoping for more dark hairs but am I being too optimistic at this stage? My hair used to be straight and brown (with some help from the bottle), now it's curly and gray.

Scarlet - I know it's hard but you have to be patient. At 8 weeks PFC I didn't have ANY hair. Now at 6 months PFC I still only have little more than an inch, but it is hair and I am happy to have it.

LindaBusEd, For me it will be a year next month and what I have is pathetic. My grandson (5 years old) came over today and when he saw me, he asked me to put my hat back on because my hair looks so bad. He was very upset. His mother had to calm him down. So since I'm still at the stage of scaring small children, I know it's bad. I'm on Arimidex so I agree that it contributes to the problem but I think it was the Taxotere that did me in. It is depressing to not be able to move beyond this stage and it affects me greatly.

HRF we are trying to get the word out and save some women from this I am scarey too I avoid mirrors I have always loved spring clothes its hard to get excited abut them when you have this head. I am trying somethihng from Toni Brittin its called hair fillers you can put them on as far back as your crown I have too much hair for a wig and not enough to wear without a hat so if it works I will let all of you about it they are not expensive either 25 a piece I hope to only need to use two of them for front and back by the crown. ccbaby - thanks for posting the pics! Your hair looks terrific in each and every one. Every length looks like it's a deliberate cut as opposed to post-chemo hair growing in. I hope I didn't jump the gun and colour min too early but it was an impulse thing when I was in for a protein treatment. I'm so glad I did, though, as it feels so much better. As it's a demi, I suspect it'll fade faster than a permanent. Good thing is, I won't be washing as often as when I used to get my long hair coloured so maybe it will last okay.

Mary...When my hair first started growing in, it was mostly brown already with some gray scattered throughout. So, that is why I colored it, just to cover up the gray hair. But, I always colored my hair blonde before chemo, so that is why I started highlighting it. I feel more like myself now with the blonde hair.
Sugar...I don't think you colored your hair too soon. Just make sure you get the tip ends cut off every 4 to 6 weeks so they won't split and break off.

Yes, Thanks for posting your pictures....your hair looks great. I am squirming because my son is getting married in October and I am hoping to have pretty enough hair so that I don't have to wear a wig.

I have 5 weeks PFC and am starting to get some growth, so I am hopeful. I also have lost my lower lashes on just one eye - they've been gone about 3 weeks now - how long before little hairs should come in?

Marion: Thanks Marion for answering my question about when dying hair after chemo. I just may seriousily wait then to about July and that will be exactly 5 months post chemo.
The color I want is of one of Jamie Lee Curtis hair colors and it is a dark grey with some kind of highlights. Hopefully it will not cost me too much money to get that color. Most hairdressers these days when they dye hair want to bleach it first and then dye it. Hopefully this time around because my hair is already coming in grayish white they will not want to bleach it first.

Charmaine....How you can get that look is that since your hair is already grayish-white, the hairdresser needs to give you lowlights (or reverse frost- old school) with a dark color to mix in with your already white hair.0

HRF - Im sorry you are having such a difficult time with your hair...I had taxotere too but fortunately, my hair is growing in quite well. Have you spoken to your Med-Onc about it and has he/she referred you to a dermatologist/trichologist?

TreadSoftly, yes I told my onc who said that "it always grows back" but she finally did refer me to a specialist. I'm trying minoxodil but it's been almost 3 months and I don't see much difference. The crown is very very thin and all the hair is very fine.
Maura, I would love to know more about the fillers. Your hair sounds exactly like mine. Too much for a wig and not enough to go without a hat.
Kids always tell the truth. Yesterday my 5 year old grandson saw me without a hat and he cried. Begged me to put my hat back on. And he's the only one who tells me the truth.

CCBaby: I have written down how my hairdresser would have to color my hair in order to get a color like Jamie Lee Curtis. You are obviously knowledgeable on hair and color. Are you a colorist?

I think I may have figured out how to post pic's so here are my hair pictures...I finished Chemo Sept 30, 2009. The first pic is from Dec 2009, the next is April 13, 2010 and the last two were taken April 21, 2010. I started taking Biotine about 2 months ago and the growth really took off.

Charmaine, I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you! I unlike most couldn't and didn't wait to color my hair, as soon as I could see it coming in gray I went to Walgreens and bought a box of blonde....I'm only 40 and have always had blonde hair (natural). I feel this cancer and treatment has aged me well beyond my forty years and could not stand the thought of now being gray and was willing to sacrafice my half inch long hair if the "box" made it all fall out...but it didn't. My hair took the box fine; however, it didn't last too long I have re-dyed it about 3 times since then. I will go have it done by a pro as soon as I think it's long enough (worth it)! I did have a trim but not till after the first 2 dye jobs, hair was getting a little crazy around the ears!0

Does anyone have any advise on how to grow your hair out??? I have always had long blonde curly hair as long as I can remember. Now that it's really short on top a little longer on the sides and back...I have no idea what I do next. My hair was getting really wild around the ears and back of the neck, so I had it trimmed there but left the top alone. My thought is if I keep doing this (trim) it will never get long; I will always be just prolonging my short do or makiing a mullet! Any suggestions??? Thanks, Donna
