Hello ladies i am on Day 13 of my first of 4 TC. Today I see some hair coming out so I imagine the ret will go tomorrow like the said day 14.
Any adivse on creams and things to put on my head when I am bald?
0 -
No creams, just keep it protected from the sun. Run a soft washcloth over your head about once a week in the shower to remove the dead cells ("scales").

Carrol, I used Head and Shoulders to prevent dry/flakiness. I never actually lost most of my stubble. I had it shaved when it started coming out in clumps, but it was never smooth all over.

Mine was smooth as a baby's bottom. But it grew back nice and full.

I also didn't apply anything specific to my bald head, used 'sensitive skin' Dove for head and body. I also got the hair shaved as soon as it was clumping out. On Aromasin now after 3 1/2 years of tamoxifen, and notice on tamox, I had little hair thinning, but with Aromasin, wowwww...hair is falling out again :O Gotta be SO careful with it, just wash/condition heavily/apply leave-in condition and do NOT comb (it's curly-permed now). Definitely thinning, ugh. *sigh* The things we do go thru....it could be worse, I suppose! ~juli

Yes, sensitive skin Dove is excellent for that......

Thanks for the tips. i have been using head and shoulders since chemo started to get the head ready.
What about with wearing a wig does that irritate the head?
0 -
It's itchy sometimes but no irritation - at least not with me.

Wear a wig cap. It will irritate you to just wear the wig on your head with no cap underneath. Also, get one of those stretchy bands (I can't remember what they are called - comfy grip, i think?). They will keep on the wig on more securley.
Measure your head circumfrence. I had a very large head, lol! It made wig shopping harder, but at least I got the right size.

I found that wearing the wig was most comfortable when I went billiard ball bald. Once the hair started coming back, it got a bit itchy. But, I never had any irritation from it. I just used baby shampoo in the shower, and am still using it even though I have about one inch all around. It makes it so soft.

Yeah, the wig didn't bother me, really. Only problem is I live in a tropical climate, so it could get hot - but I wasn't itchy. I think the cap helped a lot. Scarves were more comfy and cooler, though.

I liked the Harley-Davidson bandana/scarf I bought (no, I don't ride bikes though, lol)...that was really soft and comfy. Never wore a wig or cap, even all thru the winter (hot flashes), nor hat. Definitely hear ya on the scarves being cooler and more comfy. ~juli
I am disappointed in the hair loss right now on Aromasin, and fear it will last the 7 years my onc. wants me on it And here I thought hair was 'no big deal'. *sigh*

Here is a pic of me - this is just a few days short of five months post-chemo (5/21/2010). This is after a rather spendy cut/dye at the salon. Hoping to not have to make a habit of it, but if I have to I will!

Hi ladies!
So I just went to the store and bought a bottle of Biotin, 5000 mcg each capsule. It says, "promotes carbohydrate, fat and energy metabolism". Is this the same pill that promotes hair growth? Just curious, am I going to grow hair in places I don't want it to grow, i.e. the mustache area?
I hope you all had a great weekend!
Brenda

Hi Brenda: I think it's the same with any post-menopausal women with the hair growth in places we don't want. No mustache here, but yes with the hairs on the chinny-chinny chin, lol. I just make sure to pluck them, they're sporadic. Great weekend, hope you did as well! ~juli

Brenda - I quit the Biotin because I was growing hair in unwanted places. I don't know if its the Biotin or just normal post chemo hair problems!

GoogsMN: I think you look beautiful. And you deserve the salon treatment.0

I have a question I only had 1 TC treatment about 6 weeks ago. My SE's were so bad the Dr.s were afraid it would kill me so they said no more chemo. I'm still loosing hair on my arms, eye lashes etc. When will it stop, and when will I start to get hair again?

Just wondering about eyebrow hair growth. I am now 5 weeks post chemo and my eyelashes are really starting to grow...thank heavens but my eyebrows are nonexistent. Can anyone tell me how long it was before their eyebrows started to grow in. I am taking biotin (5000mcg/day) as well. Thx Heather

kira: Sorry about your s/e's on chemo, that sucks. No idea on regrowth for the hair, but wishing you good luck and hope you have other treatments that help you.
hmh: It was quite awhile, probably a few months before lashes/brows grew back in, I really cannot remember. I know for my hair itself, it was about 6 months for a good 2" of hair. Never took biotin. Good luck to you as well! ~juli

Alison34 - your hair looks great! I am exactly 3 weeks behind you and really looking forward to getting rid of the wig. Did you lose your eyebrows? Mine were fine thru chemo, but REALLY thin right now.
