Maron you look great how long was your hair before chemo this length looks great on you. Are you using anything to help it grow like shampoo or vitamins?

    Hello Carrol2,

I am not using any supplements (no Biotin) or any special shampoos (I use Fructis!).

My hair was really long, down to my ... boobs! It is going to take a while to get back to that length. In the meantime I have bought a few hairstyles magazines for short hair.

Marion can you get extensions? Or is that not good for the regrowth.

MHP70, mine was the same with the stubble and it was white (now have my brown hair, mixed with gray :o)/// it wasn't until about 10 weeks out that I really noticed steady growth. I'm 15 weeks out, now my hair lays flat, sort of patchy in the front, more solid growth on the back. I use Keune So Pure Revitalizing shampoo and elixir.

The TLC.org (Am. Cancer Society sponsored) has a nice selection of all the little "extras" that are helpful with wigs. Probably everyone is different in what helps but I found the jell like band very helpful (can't remember what it is actually called).  It fits around the head just above the hair line & it does not move.  Wig fits over the edges and stays in place.

Mine now measures 2" :-))))) Curly is definitely a different experience for me.  Now have a 3/4" flat iron, a 1/2" curling iron, and just added a 1/2" curling brush.  Don't like using the flat iron - seems like it will cause damage over time.  I can tell that the straightening product with a fast blow dry while briskly brushing back and forth then using the curling brush will eventually get me what I can live with BUT need more than 2".  Has been growing since last Tx on 3/23 so I'd say that is pretty darn slow. Also have had a wierd growth experience elsewhere - When lost my eyelashes and eyebrows for the 2nd time & as they were on their way back in for the 2nd time, all growth just stopped.  Had been having to shave my legs a couple times a week and that growth stopped to.  Nails stopped too.  Waiting for everything to start growing again.

    Night everyone - Louise

i haventposted here, before, cause its been almost a year for me since chemo.but, since leah did, i will. it does come back, but there are no gurantees whatcha end up with. i got really angry that my mustache came in before anything else.. it just isnt fair!! i have to keep having the hair on the top cut, it just keeps coming back "chemo hair, which feels like a stuffed animal, not real hair. the back is lovely, but the top is still a work in progress. its' really thin, and i'm not settling. keeping it short, they tell me when its' real hair again, it mighten thicken in. believe me ladies, when it comes to hair..any is better than none...and i've not heard of anyone not getting any back. we all do, at different speeds, and different textures. seems to be the biggest issue for all of us. it seemed like the Biggest insult to me. but, im still truckin' you guys will do fine.. thinking of all of you, wishing you well.

Sugar and Marion, you both look gorgeous, and sugar that's only 8 mos worth of growth, lucky you.I am 20mos post chemo and my hair is only about as long as Marions, but not as thick or healthy as hers and it still keeps falling out daily.

My hair b4 chemo was very thick and had a small natural wave.It came back in very thin, very straight, and very dry looking, nor does it grow as fast as it used to,and it continues to RAIN hair each and every day.Very dissappointing, since it was harder for me to lose my hair than my boobs.I can't stand wigs and don't like to wear hats either.

There is a picture of me several pages back, don't remember how far back though.Think i'll check into the Biotin.

It DOES feel like stuffed animal hair!    That's how I've described it to friends.    Will get a picture of mine one of these days.

Still can't figure out how to get a picture on here so I just keep changing my avatar! LOL!  This is my hair at 7 months post chemo after using Marc Anthony Straight, a blowdryer while holding it flat plus a flat iron to smooth out the animal hair look.  Whew!  It's alot of work.

MBJ - your hair looks great.  I'm getting mine cut on Saturday so I'm thinking some of the curl will probably get cut off.

You all looks great. I am just beginning to deal with the hair loss. Yesterday I had round two so new challanges to handle. For now I have lots of hats and scarfs and two wigs that I had a stylist thin down for me. right now I have enough hair to show out under a hat but for how long who knows.

starting using nioxin shampoo and conditioner I figure it cant hurt. I'll save the scalp treament for when chemo ends.

MBJ... I love the hair style.  I am only two months past last chemo and just fuzz!  It is going to be a chilly winter for me here in the Chicago area.

carol2 & joan888:  My wigs were the only thing that got me through chemo last year, this time!  It will grow back soon enough.  I still get cold at night because I'm not used to the short hair!

Hi all, I could use some encouragement.  It is week 6 pfc, and all I have are some ridiculous little tiny white uncle fester hairs.  I'm starting to worry that TC ruined my hair.  It is normally strong and thick.

Is this normal?  Seems like Joan is having same issues, and I'm in a cold climate as well!

My rads doc said no supplements during radiation, I'm listening to him.  I was on fish oil before, and I've heard horsetail is good.

MHP, yes, that is normal.   Mine was very slow to come in (several weeks post chemo), but then it really started coming in.

Sugar, be sure to post your pics of your cut - I am trying to decide to have my first haircut or not, in hopes it will take some of the curl out....

I spoke to my hair dresse and he believes you can out extensions in if you want your hair longer and they can match it. Never heard anyone o here talk of that. Of course mine is only first falling out so miles away from that but I am hopeful.

Hey All! So I'm 13 wks PFC, and I'm thinking about ditching the hat. *gasp* I am nervous to do it, but SO SICK of wearing something on my head. The office I work at is so warm all the time and always have the heat on, and with these hot flashes, I'm dying. Most of my head is covered with hair, except the front hairline and the sides. I've shown a few people, and they are all in agreement that I can/should rock it, but I feel like they're just saying that to be nice. How long did it take anyone to finally "free" the head?

I freed mine at 12 wks pfc and colored my hair then too.  I felt as you do, that people were just saying it looked good to be nice.  I didn't care though.  I was so tired of the wig and the heat in NC.  I got a few stares, but after going without it, I really got used to it.  I'm fond of saying, "It is what it is."  My coworkers were very supportive.  I never went back to the wig after I made the decision to go without it.  I had my passport photo taken with the crazy chemo hair too.  Now that has got to be considered either brave or foolish.  :-)

Thank you, Fearless One.  I must say, this is definitely sort of insult to injury, we all deserve a quick return of hair.

Regarding going commando, I've been super-lucky.  I'm in an artistic environment, and people think it's sort of fun and full of attitude.  I don't get bothered on the street--I think people are a little afraid of it; it's frankly still a bit confrontational not to apologize for appearance as a woman.  Today I wore a scarf because I'm cold, and many more people engaged.  It is all about signification, for sure.

I saw something cute, wouldn't work for everyone, but a young woman, obviously a cancer survivor and with pretty sparse hair, wore a very cute thick elastic cotton headband around her head, as if she had hair.  It was decorative without looking weird, and framed her face nicely.  Another possibility when ditching the hat.  I found some things look good on some, not on others.  I look much better totally bald than with a scarf.  I was blessed with a decent shaped head.  The scarf makes me look like a crazy lady, IMO.  The wig made me look like a real goon.
