MBJ - I'd like to know how long it took you to get that length too. My hair used to grow so fast (nearly an inch a month) if it still grew at that rate I'd have about four inches. I have about an inch now after four months of waiting --- that is when I stretch it to measure it. LOL
Emu oil????? I'll be watching the boards to hear how that goes 3jays. Are you getting good results with the Biotin?

KIttycat: You are beautiful with or without hair! Much prettier then I could ever hope to be. I had my last chemo on 3/1/10 and I completely re-shaved off the first inch of chemo growth, bleached the hell out of the gray and finally in September died it and had my stylist do a really short version of my old hair style. I take Biotin, Selenium, Iodoral, Vit A, B, C, D, E & K and I also have been using rogaine for men. Just switched back to the women's formula. Mine grows about and inch a month.
ECT: If you are on Tamoxifen or any other estrogen stopping drugs this can interfer with your hair growth. Supplements might help, though.

OK - so when did it start growing an inch a month. And do you think the Rogaine and the Biotin helped speed that growth up? How long did you use these before you saw results? And yes I am taking Tamoxifen, sorry to hear it can interfere with hair growth.0

ECT, you look exactly like Princess Di in your profile pic!
I got horsetail, and keep forgetting to take it. Have a full head of fuzz, it's even a little darker on the sides. But I'm at 9 weeks, and this sux. Really would like for some real coverage!!

Nancy, I'm at 9 weeks and have Fester Fuzz, but also no real growth. It's dense fuzz, and has gotten denser, but I'm ready for real coverage. For me, I decided against Rogaine. Some of the ingredients are questionable, and there have been studies on the possibility of cancers in people using it. I decided I'd wait for when it looks like I might not get real hair until I pulled it out.
My brows are about 1/2 as thin as they used to be, same "others" you describe. I'm taking Horsetail, will start my D again today. Fish oil and the possibility of iodine will wait until after radiation is completed.

Does Femara slow hair growth?

MHP70 - thx for the compliment, will take all I can get these days. I used to get the Princess Di comment when I was younger, esp since her boys were the same ages as mine and they looked a lot like them. But alas, now my hair has grown in much darker with a bit of grey. It's thick and soooo soft. I feel like rubbing my head all the time because it reminds me of a puppy. Ain't that weird?
Anyway, I wish I had more on the sides so I might try the Biotin. The nurse at the oncologist yesterday said she thought it would be curly, so far it's only got a little movement going on. One thing is for sure - it has a mind of it's own. I don't think it'll be as easy to control as it was before. Nancy, I don't know about Femera but I was told by someone on this site that Tamoxifen interferes with hair growth so perhaps that does too.
MelBel - I went out yesterday w/o my wig -- you were the inspiration! Thx I loved it. I went to the Oncologist - Dave Matthews would have been much better though, haven't seen him in several years.

Since I have never been bald before (at least not since infancy) I couldn't tell you if Biotin and Rogaine (I use the Target brand) helped to speed up my hair growth. I had just read somewhere that it could help after chemo so I did it. Some people can have an alergic reaction to Rogaine, so I would research it to see if this is something you should avoid. Although I prefer to do all things natural, I also prefer to have hair. My hopes is once I get my hormones in order, I will no longer have hair loss.

Nancy: Thank you! My hair is just this wild, untamed bush that I beat into submision so that it looks kind of like hair. LOL! Thank goodness for hair gel and flattening irons, because trying to get it to look like anything takes work. I have heard of the horsetail but have never tried it. I think I may have to get mine shaped again as it's starting to look like an afro now. In another 2 weeks I mihgt be able to get it into a tiny, tiny ponytail.

MBJ - thank you for the compliment. Your hair is really cool and you look fabulous as a blonde or brunette. I can't wait until I have something to work with. I was watching this girl at the airport today, who had the cutest bob. The positive side of all this craziness is that I'll try haircuts that I would have never tried (I've had the same hair style for 6 or 7 years.
ECT - you really do look like Princess Di.

Nancy, I hope you are doing well with the rest of your treatments, that was a good gang on July chemo.
I'd give anything for 1/4 inch. I really am starting to worry, but at the same time, comforted that people have said fuzz at 9 weeks is normal and try to chill out. I have dense fuzz, no real growth. And it's driving me nuts, because I really counted on a Sinead O'Connor by now. My eyebrows are really going at this point, so I'm quite demoralized.
If anyone has pointers on eyebrow pencil, please...I draw them in, look like a crazy old lady, then wipe most of it out. There must be a better way,and I've matched to my color pretty well!
My hats off (and I got plenty of them!) to those of you who are in your second round, or had more chemo than I did (4 TC). I've said before that I've been more impressed with women than ever after this event. There are days I feel I'm held together with tape and glue and I had it so easy comparatively!
Oh please, some more hair, sir.

MHP70 - go to a Sephora or Ulta, if you have one nearby, or look them up online - try the Anastasia eyebrow products - they have stencils that you can fill in with pencil and powder (my combo - looks most natural) to any shape you want and they are foolproof!!!

MBJ - I'm having the same wild, unruly hair you are! And I had to laugh about "beating it into submission!" I have read your other posts regarding the products you have used. I don't have complete curls, just some weirdo half curls. I just bought a 1" straightener but my hair is only about 1.5" so it's doesn't work perfectly. Once I straighten it, it just sticks up all over the place but it looks better than the half curls. I've also been using Aveda Control Paste and it works well. However, at the end of the day (especially after I've worked out) it's back to game show host hair! My last chemo was 6/4/10.
kittycat - I totally agree with you about trying short styles I never would have tried when I had long hair. I was in several airports last week and I, too, was checking out everyone's hair. This was my first trip without any wig, hat, scarf. It felt good to be "topless". I was in the perfect spot to not be noticed with super short hair ~~ Key West!

Hi Everyone!
I am 8 weeks since my last chemo of taxotere and cytaxon. I have a fuzzy head now...very sparse! My son examined my head with a magnifying glass...lol...and we noticed that some of the white fuzzy hairs are getting longer. It is cold here and I am wondering if wearing a ski cap all the time will hinder my hair growth. Someone told me to not wear any kind of hat or wig when I am home...but I am cold! Has anyone heard anything about this? I0 -
I remember my hairdresser telling me she had a cancer patient whose hair grew back in straight UP in the back of her head! There was not much to do with it, other than cut it down, unfortunately...she said it took a LONG time for this woman's hair to get reasonable! So, we are all so very different! ~juli
(Still losing my hair on the Aromasin, I just don't comb it, and overly condition it--heavily)

MHP - Hi lady! Miss chatting with you! I am using eyebrow powder and it looks so much better than trying to pencil in eyebrows - it's less subtle with powder. I take my make up brush and mark from my nose straight up and use that as the starting point, then from nose to outer eye - not sure if I'm explaining that right at all - but that is the gauge I use to powder in brows. My BS commented that he was surprised that I didn't lose my brows when in fact I did.
I use something by Ditzy cosmetics. It includes an eyebrow wax that helps the powder stick on. It lasts all day. I've also noticed new eyebrow growth. My lower eyelashes are falling out now. . . boo!

Thank you Kittycat! I was definetly trying some looks I never would have even considered to try out. Re-living my youth except this time around as a punk! LOL! You, too look great both blonde and brunette. Hell, you probably have a wonderfully shaped head and could go topless and look great.
MHP70: I use a Clinic powder eyebrow kit that comes with a great angled brush-much better then pencil. Try the brow forms and then just fill in with the powder. I didn't care for the Anastasia as the powder came easily off and wax doesn't work on my oily skin. Clinique's lasts for hours.
Gina: My hair does stick straight up so I am going with it!
Poodlelovebug: I wore a hat all through plus wigs and it didn't hinder my hair growth one bit! I did take the supplements and did the topical solution though. It's more important to keep warm--bundle up so you don't get sick.
For all of you trying to grow hair, once your eyelashes and brows start coming in the hair usually follows. Good luck with all of your new hair experiences!

I'll be starting TC x 4 soon and wondered what all you took to help aid your hair coming back in? I've been taking biotin for months. I had hair to about my hips, cut 18" off prior to bmx and now it's to my shoulders. I'll be cutting it shorter soon to prepare for it leaving for a while. From what I've read, most people start seeing hair show up at about 8 weeks out? Does it ever start growing while you're still on the TC? My sig other seems to think it might.

MBJ - I look at everyone's hair with envy as well!
The funny thing is I never used to notice people's eyebrows. Now, when I look at people, I look to see how their eyebrows are groomed and shaped too! How odd that one experience really makes you look at things differently

Angelisa,
I think I am about 7 or 8 weeks out now from my last TC and I have about 1/2 to almost 3/4 inch of growth. While I was on TC I did have some hair that never fell out after it was shaved so I am assuming this is the hair that never quite fell out. I have new stubble growing in now all over so in another month I think my scalp will be fully covered with hair. I do remember feeling stubble growing in during chemo too but it was not all over - just in weird patches.
I would say in the last week or so I've been noticing lots more coverage - so one day this will all be a memory - and it will be for you too!
I'm not taking Biotin, but I rub my scalp really well when I shampoo to stimulate it. It feels really good when I do that too!

I had natural curly hair before chemo. Now I have straight hair. I look terrible. I envy those with wavy hair. I constantly look at other women and I'm jealous of their hair. I take biotin and it helps my hair come in a little thicker. I know I could do a perm but I don't want the upkeep. Dying my hair is plenty. I guess I was spoiled with curls for too many years and never appreciated them until now.

MPH - I bought this stuff called 'Tinted Brow Sealer' from Merle Norman. Though I'm not a big MN fan this stuff has been great. I bought the light brown (matches my wig and natural hair color). It comes in a tube much like mascara. I never lost all my lashes but they were so thin and sparse that I had to first use a brush with some dark eyeshadow powder to darken and thicken them. Then I put the sealer over them and then lightly brushed them with a brow brush. They are back now, much thinner. Anyway, I think you've gotten some good tips now, you'll just have to experiment.
cc4... I never did anything to aid my hair coming back except for washing it a lot and lightly scratching my scalp - like in_cognito does and I have about a good inch of growth. Yea, it does feel good. My last Chemo was July 27th so that's about three and a half months ago. I think it was growing well until I started the Tamoxifen, now it seems to have slowed a bit.
poodleluvbug, I can just imagine your son with a magnifying glass looking at your head. LOL Thanks for the chuckle. Don't think the cap will hurt your hair growth.

Veggy - so sorry you lost your curls None of us appreciate anything until it's gone.0
-
veggy: I was reverse, I had straight hair and hated the upkeep of blow-drying it! My hair grew back in curly, then lost it, so I DID get the perm...no upkeep at ALL, just shampoo/deeply condition/leave-in conditioner and SCRUNCH and go~! SO easy. Straight hair one has to do something with, and mine was thinning, so the perm is my way to go anyway. Everyone does what they are comfortable with! ~juli

But the perm grows out, roots develope, go back to the hairdresser...yuck!
Dye my hair, develope roots, dye it myself.
Breast cancer stinks!
0 -
veggy: Yes, but my perm is lasting a YEAR, plus I have my hair dyed as well. I hear ya, but I have my hairdresser do this, it's the only thing I treat myself to. Oh definitely BC SUX...no dispute about that~! And for people who say: It's only HAIR...ARRRGHHHHH! We do what makes US comfortable, who cares about anyone else's opinions, I sure don't!

I am trying to find Biotin (B7) in the drug stores but can't seem to find it just on its own? I have found B-complex though, will that work? And how many mg should I be taking a day to help with hair growth??
0 -
I just want to feel good about myself and my hair. I just haven't gotten there yet. Everyone tells me that they like my hair. I don't know wether to believe them or not. They could be saying it just to be nice. Accepting myself is difficult.

My onc office recommended b complex for low immunity no ida about hair growth though.
