Marion - love your hair - and it looks nice an healthy.

cc4npg - hang in there - just put your head down and plow through it - there is no other way - before you know it you will be done - my last chemo was mid-June and now I am waiting impatiently for decent hair :-)

    Marion,

Your beautiful hair gives me hope that mine will grow back.  Right now I still have 5 tx left.  It seems as tho it will be forever.  I do recommend scalp massage.  Massage gently and "move" the scalp gently.  When I was a hairdresser, we would use massage to stimulate hair roots and promote heathy growth.  The Nioxin can can help as it stimulates the scalp as well.

For those of you who had periods during chemo, you are the most likely to get your periods back.  My onc said that it can take 8 to 12 months for your body to adjust after chemo.

Hope everyone had a great holiday!  My hair is at that point where I need to either cut it or wear a headband and just let it grow.  I am almost 9 months post chemo.

    MBJ:

I understand when you say you are at that point where you either cut it or not. Personnally, I just could not bring myself to cutting it so I decided to let it grow and wear hairclips.

Post a pic of your hair growth if you can!

I think you need to post your pictures online and then attach the url here. I can post pics from the web but not from my computer.

Bummer re: periods. I only got one two weeks after my first treatment, and ceased thereafter.  Well, as a friend of mine says,"it is what it is".  I can't force my body back!

    Claire82:

Wow, for a minute I thought this was a picture of you. I thought, well, she must have decided to go for a bold haircut before it all starts falling out ...

I did cut my hair in a "punk" style before it started falling out. I loved it. I thought, I am never going to go for such a hairstyle so I might as well do it while I still have hair. I even had a rat's tail!

    Here it is :

Marion - you look great in your photos!

Im 11 months post chemo now - Ive had 4 trims and colours.  Im liking the curls, but I still cant do anything with it except hairclips!  Below is photo of me last week at my graduation - I had signed up to do a Postgraduate Diploma last year, then found out about BC but kept up with my course.  I had my Graduation Day last week....!

TreadSoftly, congraduations!!  That's a great accomplishment, you must feel proud.  I really admire you for staying with your course, all I could do during chemo was lie on the couch or log onto BCO.

    Treadsoftly,

Congrats on your degree! That's awesome you kept on going through it all. Most people would have given up, me included.

Your hair looks really good. Lots of curls indeed!

treadsoftly you look great. Congratulations! You should be very proud to have done this through all the adversity.

Are you taking any hormone therapy now? like tamoxifen?

Thanks for the kind words girls!

Yes, carrol2, Im on tamoxifen since March.  I have no major side effects. In fact, my skin has NEVER looked so good as it has for the past 6 months with not a single spot or blemish.  I have only had 2 periods since starting tamoxifen too!

Treadsoflty: Same here, I've only had 2 periods since my last chemo (a year ago) and since starting tamoxifen.

I want them really bad... I'm only 34, having them would make me feel "like a woman" again!!

Thanks for sharing that. You girls look so good and i am looking like a plucked chicken right now. Knowing that your hair grew even with the Tamox is reassuring. Even with the chemo my skin looks pretty good blemish wise, just kind of pale but i used to tan.

Wow, I'm brand new to all of this...  and I must say Treadsoftly, you are so inspiring!   You are my new official idol (other than my Mom-- she is in 70's and has survived colon cancer).  I hope your life continues to be exciting!

BTW, Claire:: That picture cracked me up. I got soooo pissed the other day when I had to pluck a couple of hairs out of my chin. Bald all over but still have chin hairs! I told DH "next thing, I'll be growing sideburns."

Marion - your hair is really pretty.  My sister was about 1 year and a few months post chemo when she got married and her hair looked almost exactly like yours.  I can't wait until my hair looks like that.  The curls are really pretty and not too much at all.

How long did it take you all to get a full set of lashes and brows?  I have a few lashes that are about an eighth of an inch long.  And they are growing in all these crazy directions.  I wasn't in love with my hair (it was really fine), but I had gorgeous lashes.  :(

I've become obsessed with wigs again.  I went into this wig shop to find a way to secure the wig I wear the most.  I ended up buying another wig.  The synthetic wigs seems to get kind of tangled and crazy looking after a few months.  It's kind of disappointing.  Well, I found this lace front wig for $69 and the salon owner did a nice job of trimming up and layering the wig to look more natural with my face.  I might go get a highlighted looking one, too.

I am wondering if you all experienced better body hair growth before head hair growth.  Right now, my body hair is coming back strong.  Head hair is still dark fuzz. So not fair!!

Treadsoftly: Congratulations on your diploma. Is that NUIG? (I graduated from there a long time ago) I love your hair. It's hard to remember everyone's before and after hair, but wasn't yours more red beforehand? It now seems to be dark brown. The curls are beautiful.

Kittycat: my lashes/eyebrows started falling something like 6 or 8 weeks after my last chemo. They never fell during the chemo. Once it started growing back, it grew back quickly. I never was completely without eyelashes and eyebrows anyway. They did not fall all at the same time.

Is it a wig you are wearing on your profile picture or it it what your hair looked like ?

MHP70: my body hair did not come back right away, my (head) hair came back first. I wish it would have stayed that way but unfortunately my body hair now is as strong as it ever was!

MaryNY - yes that is NUIG!! Well spotted! Thats the Quad in the background.  And yes, I was red pre chemo.  This latest dark look is the result of an accident at the last hairdresser visit - somehow I came out much darker than both I and the hairdresser anticipated.....!  Im embracing the look for the moment (because at least its hair!!) but definitely looking forward to it fading out and getting back to my original colour!

Lyndalynda - thanks for the kind words, greatly appreciated!

kittycat - about keeping your wig on, I use a water soluble adhesive that I love.  I bought it from headcovers.com (which is also where I got my wig).  I think it is called "it stays" or something like that. I use a little along the forehead hair line and a little at the base of my skull and it keeps it in place all day, but is still easy to pull off.  It washes right off (and out of the little hair I have left) with a little bit of water.

I have even used it to keep a pair of boots in place that usually inch down my calves as I walk.

    I highly recommend it.
