I loved the big hoop earrings look with the bald head. I had many pairs of them...silver, gold, rose gold, twisted...

Me too! I loved the big hoop earrings or long, dangly ones, like chandelier earrings. I think they look great with the pixie cut too. Thank god for accessories!

Melissa: Congrats on your first day out! I've felt the same way recently going out "topless". That experience all over again. I know a lot of women have wigs they are comfortable in. Mine was not cheap but still looked too much like a wig. I should have done a better job with the wig shopping.

Maybe those of you who never used the wigs can donate them to a cancer charity! I had to have my stylist completely cut and modify my wigs to fit me but I was so glad to have them. I was cold all of the time without hair, but kudos to all of you out there who are brave enough to go without!

Great idea, MBJ. I've already asked at the American Cancer society and they only take new donations. I need to ask other places. Maybe even my oncologist's office.

There is a place in Independence MO called Cancer Action, not sure if they are in other cities. I got a wig there, all services are totally free and they have been very nice calling to check in during treatment and make sure I don't need anything else. Well, I just looked and seems they are only in Kansas City area, but maybe there is something similar locally. If not ship them to me and I'll drive them over there
OH BTW, I know they take used wigs, I was shown several...

About the "Brazilian Keratin" treatments, since a few of you are interested in this: I have been reading about this, and I won't be doing it due to cost, but fyi, they have it now with NO fermadlyhyde. When making an appointment, ask if their formula uses formadahyde and also, a BKT is not the same as the older Japaneese system. I believe the BKT is gentler.
braziliankeratin.com
Cost may be prohibitive for some of you, at $100 or more a pop and lasts about 3-4 months.
Haircuttery does it now, too, btw. But not all of them, you have to check your local one.

This is my first post here, but I felt like a chia pet between Halloween and Christmas. When I went to the in laws at Thanksgiving, my DH step mom said to make myself comfortable and I did. It was just growing in and very soft and downy. I had just had surgery so I was not back at work at that time. Since August I had been wearing hats and scarves since my wig was making my head scratchy and hot. When I went back to work I was not brave enough to go without my wig so I am still wearing it. I guess I am waiting for it to get to that just so length. It is coming in grayish brown and I am self consciouses about that. A friend at work said she would get the Paul Mitchell out and spritz it up for me. I am now considering that since the wig is slipping and I have to keep adjusting.
I have not read all the posts but has anyone thought about the ovation products? Just wondering.

Hi mjbmiller! I remember the chia pet time of hair growth! Luckily I did chemo in the winter (if you can call it winter in california) so the wig kept me warm. Once it started getting hot I just couldn't stand wearing my wig, but by then I had enough growth to go without, although I had very short hair!
I haven't heard of the ovation products! What are they?

Hi My last Treatment was in June DD A/C the end of August i had a very soft halo of hair. This picture was of me last week. My hair came in so curly and gray. I had it colored and I gel down the sides a bit because if not, my hair turns into a big round afro. I can't help and wonder if and when my hair might relax a bit. My hair was always was big texas hair..lots of body and thick...now it is crazy curly! Anyone else have very curly hair and did it relax?

Emme: It will still have some crazy cowlicks but as it gets longer the weight will really, really help! You look so great with this hairstyle!

To dye or not to dye. Ok guys, my hair is coming back in grey on the front and sides and dark in the crown and down the back. A few people are trying to convince me to let it stay gery and other are saying I am too young to go grey. I am 51 and have been coloring my hair for 20 years because my grey was in spots like a skunk. Who do I believe? How did you decide? On one hand I think I would enjoy not having the maintenance of coloring my hair but on the other hand I don't want to look older than I am. Not sure I trust the people who are encouraging me to stay grey, one colors her hair and the other is salt and pepper. Sure do wish I had access to a personal stylist who could provide a non-biased opinon.

I was soooo not ready to look older! The only women I know who look great "grey" are actually platinum because they are naturally blonde! I have been dying my hair since I was 19 and where it comes in grey I look like I have bald spots. It's one thing to have even grey coverage it's quite the other thing to have spotty grey hair. Not everyone can pull off grey--it's a very individual thing.

Ovation.com - from what I understand it promotes good hair growth, from brittle dry hair and quick growth. It does not promote new growth where hair loss is aparent. From what I understand it was first brought out to help cancer patients with hair growth. It is advertized on the radio a lot down here.

I will ask my onc about it. From what I have been told, the only thing that works is minoxidyl. I will check out their site.

This is me 44 weeks post chemo, finished march 13th 2010... i found out i can graduate grade 12 this year after missing so much school, so i went wigless for the first time at school. I got some weird stares but i kind of like it....haha.

Thanks MBJ..
I was totally gray, I couldn't stand it. I misunderstood the ONC nurses and thought I couldn't dye it..I was soon corrected and off to the salon I went. It made me feel so much better and younger. I was already having idenity issues with adjusting to my new implants and no nipples...and in the middle of everything my husband fessed up to his affair...it messed up my sense of who I am...coloring my hair helped. And anything that makes me feel better is GOOD! Ladies I say go for it...

Hello all...well today was the day. I went to work topless LOL!!
It was funny cause the old timers have known me for 20 years and have seen many hair styles and colors and certainly knew my natural hair color was dark brown. The youngens were shocked and someone said hello to me and did a double take not realizing it was me. One thing I love about that office is really no one care what I look like..they're like my second family and have been so kind and supportive. Makes me realize I had nothing to worry about which was so what I needed today. No meltdowns just a NORMAL day at the office. and my Charlie did really well his first full day of doggie daycare! He is sacked out under the coffee table as we speak. I am gonna try to post a pick. Thanks to everyone for all the supportive words!
Have a Good evening! MBJ another great pic!!

OH And I forgot tons more of compliments on how my short dark hair makes me look so young. The 68 year old receptionist (who is everyones mom) said "BOY look at you! You look so happy and rested, no more circles or line..I can tell you're really taking care of yourself these days and getting lots of rest!" ha ha ha I will never admit to the B

Erin- You are a very brave and strong young woman. I have just read a few of your previous posts and I'm so impressed with your strength and dignity.

DiDel I so know what you were going through. Money is very tight for us and surprise bills can just send you over the the top with all that we are dealing with. I find that I am very emotinal these days. Some days i feel like I an conquer the world and others i just don't know how I am getting through this journey. But I always come back to pushing forward and thinking as positive as I can and the stresses eventually pass.
westiemom I am not on tamoxifen yet. I have my follow up from chemo Feb. 1 and my doctor will discuss it then.I know some people say it can slow hair growth and they can gain weight. I am not looking forward to it.
Lovelyface i am 41 days PFC and i have like a dark spider web of hair coming in. Mostly on my temples. A week ago it seemed like i had nothing so i bet you will see yours coming in much more in a week or so.
I am have been taking biotin and using nioxin for 2 weeks.

Erin, you are beautiful. Keep your head up.

Erin, you are an amazing your woman. I wonder how my daughter would handle it if she had to go through what you are.
Didel and Carrol2, we have the same worries with unexpected bills that keep popping up. And I am so emotional too. I had a hysterectomy in Dec and I've been on Tamoxifen since July and sometimes I just lose it... usually I just let myself cry it out in the shower.
Thought I would post a couple pics of my hair. I am 6mos+PFC. My hair is coming in a dark blonde and curlier than it used to be. (I used to have a little wave, but NOTHING like this.) My hubby has taken to calling me "curlyQ" -- if he wasn't so dang sweet about it, it might really bother me. I have to use a ton of product to tone it down; every morning I wake up with ELVIS hair in the front. Okay, enough complaining, I am happy I have hair.
((BIG HUGS)) to all!

arubajan05 you look happy and radiant. Beautiful picture.

Arubajan: I remember when my hair was this length! It's very flattering.
Erin: My hair is a little longer then yours and I stopped chemo march 1 of last year. Can't imagine why anyone would stare except that it's such a cute hairstyle on you!

MBJ, you look wonderful! Your hair looks great!! I can't wait for longer hair.
