Westiemom:  Thank you! Whenever it's really dry out, like today, 82 degrees hot, I can style my hair and it's almost as if I have never had chemo.  Still a different texture but now, 10 months later, it's almost back to my original length!

Emme - I love your hair and it looks so nice on you.  I also finished chemo in June (6/18 to be exact) and it is very curly and very soft.  About 2.5 inches long.  The front is shorter and it concerns me.  I have an appointment this weekend for a color and trim (trimmed it once slightly).  Will decided after I see it colored if I am ready to stop wearing the wig.  Sorry to hear about your DH - why did he have to "dump" the news on you at this time?!?

Hi Ladies - just wanted to pop in to say hello and to offer encouragement. Next month it's been a year since I finished chemo. Mine's been growing and I've had regular cuts every 6 weeks to trim off the chemo ends.  I'm now thinking of going a lot shorter in the coming months. Not sure exactly what I want to do but I'm not planning to grow it long. I always had long hair and I can say I like it better short.  Never imagined I'd prefer it short but I really do.

MBJ-- thanks for the info.  I went to Sally's today and they didn't have the Xenna Topical Solution.??  They had all the Ion products, but didn't know what to get really.  Was expecting to find this Xenna stuff.  Any other place anyone has purchased this product?  Is there a similiar Ion product that can be used?  Am continuing the Nioxin so maybe that will have to do for now.  Thanks..

Emme - I can't believe your DH actually had the nerve to have an affair and admit it to you during this difficult time!!!!  Ugh!

My hair is growing and getting crazier each day.  I tried to put a section of it in a small pony tail (it's only 1.5 inches long).  Didn't work, but gave me a good laugh!  I got a couple headbands at J Crew for $3 a piece (on sale).  I thought it might make my hair look cute - NOPE!  LOL!

LLL6500:  Sorry if I misinformed you -- Topical 183 Solution is on line only!  Sally's sells the Ion products only and it's great fro straightening and managing your hair.  Nioxin products sold at many other beauty supplies has a similar Treatment foam, but it's much more expensive and I prefer the Topical Solution, though I do use Nioxin products, too.

I go for a trim tomorrow, It has been 10 weeks since I completed Chemo and I am getting shaggy around the ears and the neckline.  Going to talk to my beautician about when to begin to color.  Finally got my hubby to admit that he wanted me to dye it back to the color I used to get.  He is having trouble getting used to the gray.  He told me it was completely up to me but he really likes it brown better.  He was so funny you could tell he didn't want to hurt my feelings, I am so tickled to just have hair.  I also think if I go ahead and color it I may shed the wig soon.  There are only a few people in my office who even know that I wear a wig because I found one that looked so much like my old hair they can't tell.  I had a lady ask me this weekend where I get my hair cut because she wanted to go there and get the same cut.  I get many compliments on my wig so it will be very hard to go topless.

Well I did went topless this morning.  Asked my DH how I looked, he said beautiful.  Put some danglely ear rings on, and make up (usually go without).  So far everyone at work is giving me the thumbs up.  I did almost wiggout this morning, no pun intended.  Still not for sure about the color, grey is not my color as I am only 48.  We'll see.  The pic. on my profile is pre chemo.  I'll do a self portrait and see what you all think.

mjbmiller you've certainly inspired me to seriously consider ditiching the wig. I completed chemo in August, have good growth but the front is still thin like the scalp is showing (thank you arimidex) but slowly i'm going out to places without the wig, just can't bring myself to not wearing it to work.

I am at a car show and i still don't have hair, 43 days PFC but it is sprouting a little.

My issue is deciding on hat versus wig. The wig can be itchy and it is cold. The hat is more comfy. But sometimes I just want hair. But the whole time i wear the wig on wonder if people can tell its a wig. so i think i will probably stick with the hats. I brought lots with me.

Carrol I bet most people can not tell its a wig. that was the case with me. I had two wigs and one was supe itchy!  I bought two different types of caps to wear under the wig..you do wear a cap under the wig right? If not you should you won't have the itch. One cap was like fishnet stocking and one was more solid like a regular stocking. It was hard cause it was summer time and it was extra hot but it helped me secure the wig and prevented the itch AND absorbed any sweat. I didnt count the first three weeks after my final chemo cause hair was still falling out. So my last chemo was May 17th, by 4th of July my head was covered with that lovely grey chemo hair...but nonetheless hair.

mjbmiller I colored my hair 3 months PFC eventhough they tell you not to and the color didn't hold, it was green instead of brown. Then I used Natural Instincts semi perm was more like a rinse. It held up pretty nicely and covered the grey, colorless hairs.

Today I get my first coloring since Last December before my mx! I am so excited I hope the color takes and evens out. Currently the back is darker than the top.

Hope everyone has a nice day! Keep those heads warm!!

Guygirl:  My DH called me "George Clooney" when my hair came in grey.  He loves to make me laugh but boy, that one wasn't funny!  Diane gave you good advice as the chemo hair has difficulty taking the dye at first.

mbjmiller:  Congratulations on going topless--It does take some getting used to.

Carrol:   I had my wig cut to look just like my hair, too, and I also had a woman ask me the first time I wore it who did my "hair".  I had 4 wigs but 3 that I rotated.  I just decided I would have fun with it, it was winter and I could try out new looks.  I received complements on all of them--most people never knew it was a wig.

I went out yesterday, for the first time without any head coverings. I am 4 months since my final chemo and my hair is 1/2 inch long, brown, and straight. It is the exact texture of the hair that I lost...which I don't think happens very often. I was going to wait to debut my new hairdo for another month, but I have full coverage and it was nice and warm out so I just went for it. I only had a few funny looks and I felt comfortable. It felt great to ditch the wig!

    poodleluvbug - Good for you!

I know for me, the more I looked at my head the faster it grew. Surprised   Yes - that was a joke!

Seriously 9.5 months PFC for me, and I colored my hair for the first time last Sunday. I had about 15% gray, most toward the front. All covered now. This is the first time in 43 years that I have colored my hair (FYI I am 43 yrs old) . DH had to help as my left arm/shoulder is still very stiff (frozen shoulder from June and Dec surgeries). I am very happy with the color - dark brown. I really need to post a picture - that will be this weekends project!

I also used to have shoulder length hair. Since I did chemo first - it was gone in Jan 2010. When I went out for surgery in June 2010 as still wearing a wig to work but ditching it as soon as I walked out of the building. In August when I went back to work, wore a baseball cap. My head was covered but it was still very short. By Sept - the cap was off, and I have been topless ever since. I am at the point now were it looks like I cut my hair this short on purpose. And of course there are the random pieces that stick up every which way. I still haven't had a trim - that is probably going to start in Feb. I just have a hard time going in and getting a haircut or trim when I hardly have any hair to begin with. I keep trying to get DH to do it, but so far no go!

poodleluvbug....good for you.  I gave up and went topless at the same point.  I had planned on waiting another month, but felt just like you.  It does feel good to finally take that big step.  Congrats!

i have this gel band that I wear under the wig that works great. But there is like a clear mesh in the front that itches a lot. It doesn't bother me unless i wear it a long time. Tomorrow the show is from 3-10 then sat 11-10 and sunday 11-7 so those are long days, and it's cold,  so i have decided to wear hats. I have about 6 of them with me. I see a lot of people wearing funky knit hats like mine here too so i am in fashion lol.

Erin - You are terrific!  Guygirl - I had the same dilemma.  I didn't look too bad with white-grey hiar, but it did make me look older.  I guess because I'm single, I decided to dye it - I need all of the help I can get in the "meeting men" department, what with a damaged boob and all.  Anyway, I'm going to an organic hair salon in a  few weeks to see what they offer that isn't toxic. Arubajan - Can't wait to have that much hair - it looks great!
