westimom - no I have not had a hair cut yet, still contemplating coloring.  I am going this weekend and have her shave the neck hair that is sticking out.

    Hello,

went wigless for the first time yesterday. Felt good. By the time I went to pick up my son from daycare i put my wig back on. He did not see my without daycare yet. Told him I would cut my hair today and would have short hair when I pick him up. He was asking me to leave it long enough so I still look like a girl.

Yesterday night we went for birthday party and I spent 1 hour making sure my hair was not sticking out from the wig. Not worthed.

Wish me luck. It is -40 here in Winnipeg.

nikola - you have nice coverage and a nicely shaped head - so the short hair looks very nice on you.  I am getting my hair trimmed and colored tomorrow morning.  Will decide then if I have the nerve to go wigless (last chemo was mid-June, have about 2.5 inches, but curly and unruly and the front is much shorter)

Nikola - we had our last cemo about the same time, you look awsome.  Love the color, except for it being cold, I am enjoying being without the wig.  Not sure about my color yet, so used to the red in the wig.

Thank You ladies, You lifted my confidence. For the last 30 years I was always hiding befhind my hair, now that is gone.

mjbmiller, our hair looks similar. I put some foam to keep it done so it looks a bit darker on pictures. I loved my wig. I was getting lots of compliments from people that I did not know about my "hair". Loved red and brown combination. I would lie to color my hair now but I am afraid of making mistake. Maybe I try henna.

ebann, I love those glasses. I have contacts, too, but I think with short hair I look better with glasses. At least I can hide some of my wrinkles.

It is - 40 in Winnipeg, very cold for going short.

Nikola-You and I have matching hairdos at this point! You look great! I was very glad to say..."I am never wearing this ratty wig again!"...Such a good feeling. We will both have Emma Watson's pixie cut in a few more weeks but for now I think we look fine. I have seen a lot of other ladies who choose to go very short. I put on makeup too...my daughter showed me how to use a light eyeliner and I wore a nice pink lipstick...and lots of jewelry...so I still felt very girly. Good for you Nikola!

Nikola:  You look terrific!  You're not making a mistake.  I bet I end up going without a hat before I have even that length coverage!  I haven't worn a wig yet, but have one.  Since it's cold, hats seem to take less time to put on, so I've gone with that.  But -40??  I hate cold weather anyway.. glad I live in lesser of a cold area.  Funny though, once it reaches a certain degree, you almost can't tell it's that cold... very deceiving and dangerous.  I've been in close to -30 before and remember how strange it was that it didn't feel that cold.

cc4npg, You are right. It is cold, but dry cold so is manageable, especially when there is no windchill. I liked my wig but my hair was just coming out at the back, by my ears and one piece on  my forehead. It was too much time consuming putting that under and always wandering if somebody can notice. I had a feeling in last couple of days that people started noticing it was a wig. When I was bald it was sitting differently on my head.

poodleluvbug, I agree with you. I am happy I went wigless although I was originally planning to do it at the end of Febr. It was becoming too much, especially at the gym. My son still did not see me without it. I am just wandering about his reaction as in his mind girls have to have longer hair. Otherwise they are boys.

Ok ladies, I forgot to update my hair coloring problems. The semi-permanent hair color didn't work too good. My regular permanent color did.

So, I had my last treatment on the 27th of July 2010.

Once my hair color stuck, I went wigless. Second half of September 2010. This is how it looked:

and this is how it looks now, a week shy of 6 months PFC. Still using my Wella coloring, had died the roots three times since, as it grows so fast. Still a far cry from my below-the-waist hair prior to chemo. But... I started having bad-hair days woohoo (yes, today is one lol)

You'll get it, Maureen... you'll see, in the first 2-3 months it's like it's barely moving, then it starts sprouting worse than mushrooms after the rain!

I just finished my first round of TC and the nurse told me I would probably lose my hair around day 10.  Planned on shaving it a 15 days,  What to do???? I guesss I'll play it by ear.  I guess I better get to the wig store!  I do have plenty of hats and do rags. I am a hairdresser and and plan on using those for work and a wig if I need to go somewhere where I think it would make people uncomforatable.  Sigh.....

poodleluvbug, you look very pretty. You have longer bangs than me. No more wigs for us. I went to gym and my pulse was racing not because of running but because I was wigless. I had the shortest hair if I did not count couple of bold guys.

Fighter_34, hurray! you're almost there.  Only two weeks and it will be over, how are you feeling?

Nikola, you look beautiful with short hair, it really makes your eyes stand out.  You are certainly not making a mistake, and I think it's very brave to go "topless" in minus 40 degree temperatures!  Brrr.

poodleluvbug, you look great.  Is that the colour that your hair is growing in?  It is lovely.  My hair was about the same length as yours and Nikolas when I went topless, and it felt great to leave the wig off for good.

Be patient Maureen813, it will come.  How far along in your treatment are you?

Day, you have a nice thick head of hair, not bad for six months out. Are you going to try growing it long again?

Emme, it looks like you are having fun with your straightening iron!

tideknott, it sounds like you have a very positive attitude, way to go!  My hair started falling out at about day 10, and I had my head shaved two weeks after my first infusion.

You all look so good with your cute short hair!!

Kittycat..my hair changes everyday. At first when it came in straight I thought I can live with this...then the curls came. It's a serious challenge. My hair dresser was panicked when she dried my hair as she normally would and it was so thick and poofy! I told her I tame it with a knit cap..she laughed and said she'd flat iron it and that would do the trick...it didnt I left with my hat on my head. Fortunately its freezing here so I don't look like an idiot.
