Marriedblis - I have going topless as well for ages. I feel freer and get lots of good responses. It's getting close to an inch. This is my last night in Mexico and I died it warm chesnut brown...love it! I'm a big fan of funky earrings too - makes me feel more feminine and like myself.
Alison-that cut is so flattering on you. You look great!0 -
Alison - your hair is super cute. I can't wait until mine has a style. It's so chemo-ish! LOL!
married - good for you for going topless! I am not that brave!
xraygirl - I bet the warm chestnut brown looks great on you.
Thank you everyone for the kind words and the votes. I was having this whole discussion with my DH tonight about my color. I was showing him pics and he said I should try and go to a hairdresser to shape my hair. I just don't think it's long enough. He wants to dye it again. The problem with the brunette is that it grows out gray soooo fast. I was used to the blonde covering that up a bit. My color is dull. I'm really thinking about getting it professionally done so I can get a better color. DH says it's too dark (he said he liked really dark hair). Oh well, I guess not on me. My brunette wig has some red highlights in it. Maybe I should take it to the hair salon to show them the color. I don't know if I'm going back to my hairdresser. It's just such an expense!

Kittycat,
Steal the line from the L'Oreal commercial, "But your worth it!"

Kittycat I love them both!! I say it depends on your mood! The brunette reminds me of the evil twin of Jeannie (I dream of Jeannie) and Sabrina (Bewitched sister) Being both blond and brunette too, I say blonds get more help at the Home Depot...but Brunettes are fiestier!!
Daiva --- How's the snow in your part of the state?? I was laughing cause everyone at work thought I was amazing for coming in the office yesterday...I was like we got about 5 inches and I hired someone to snowblow my sidewalks and driveway and I plowed out of my driveway with my 4 wheel drive. The City was great totally plowed and cleared streets. Hope you are well!!

New to this thread...have a question...I"m 3 months out and have 1/2' of brown/grey hair that is totally straight. I've always had (hilighted) straight hair and I'm worried that it might start to curl. I have no idea how to deal with frizz or curls. Could it start to curl at this point? Its flat all over and hugs my head tightly.
Also, I had it trimmed in the back as my hair grows down my neck....and I want to know if I should have it trimmed around my ears (like a guy) or try to separate it with some hair in front of my ears and some in back. Its the same length all over. Should I let the sideburns grow? I've never had short hair and I don't know what's appropriate for a super short 'hairstyle'.

marriedblis your hiar looks great how long has it been since your chemo?
I don;t know if I am staring at myself too much but i think my eyebrows got thinner and lashes got longer. It's 7 weeks PFC. I hope they don't fall out.

Carrol, at around 7-8 weeks post chemo I noticed my eyebrows getting thinner and I had total of 3 bottom lashes on each side. Upper lashes were somewhat better. Soon after that all lashes came back and now at 17 weeks post chemo they are all back but shorter.

Carol - the last two rounds of chemo, I lost all my eye brows and most of my lashes. My last chemo was Oct 1st. I now have bushy eye brows and lashes are shorter and thiner than before but looks to be coming back now.

Kittycat: thank you for your kind words and I really loved the different stages of hair pictures, lol! As for the question brunette or blonde? My personal experience while wearing a blond wig is that men who would have never given me the time of day as a brunette loved me as a blonde, but I just feel more like myself as a brunette. You look very striking as a brunette but also pretty as a blonde! Why not go a reddish brown with blond highlights? If you don't want the added expense of going to get it done all of the time, see if your stylist will share with you what color combo she is using. When I did red/brown with highlights I combined a dark blonde, neutral brown and a 6 red and it came out a very rich brown with lots of red, but my hair was probably darker then yours to begin with. The highlights were done after this, in a honey color. Many of the major hair dye manufacturers have a help line to get you where you want to go, too.

fearless one - I know what you mean about going back to your wig. I just said that to my husband last week. My final chemo was 6/4/10, I started going "topless" 10/4/2010. My hair started coming in straight but became curly, sticking out and unruly. I had it cut 12/10/10. Bless my hair stylist; he saw me after hours and took a long time to trim and force it into some semblance of a style. It was going ok until the last week or so...it's just out of control..curly in the back, flat on top, won't do ANYTHING. I'm not happy iwth it and my wigs looked better! I know I shouldn't complain...it is hair and I'll have to suffer in silence until it grows out more ~~~ UGH. Gina0

kittycat: I think it's pretty much hands down... Brunette. I definitely like that color on you. I am naturally a dark blonde/light brown, they call it dishwater blonde because there is blonde, brown, even some red in it. My hair grows fast too, hopefully still will after chemo, and I had a problem with using store bought permanent dye. I was losing what I considered to be too much hair after each color, about 5 weeks apart. So I decided to go with henna, even though I knew it was going to leave more of a red cast to my normally not red hair. It actually grew on me and people thought it was my natural color since it turned out to look dark brownish red on me. However, every henna session is a pandora's box... you never quite know what the finished result will be because it depends on so many factors! Maybe play around with some other colored wigs to see if something else would also work for you.0

I did it! Went to work "topless" today!! Got lots of compliments, a few look confused - they didn't know I wore a wig and said "hey, i like the new haircut" I wore a wide headband to control some of the puffiness on top, and gel is my new friend. It felt good. My plan was to ditch the wig end of February, there are areas you can still see my scalp, mostly in the front area but I think that's because of arimidex, it's growing but at a slower pace.
Just wanted to share my experience today with everyone. Have a great weekend all!!

DMD: Thanks for you response. I would be thrilled to have 1 " on my head in another 42 days! But to lose your eyebrows and lashes a month after chemo ends, just when you should finally be feeling better, that's a low blow!0

MBJ - what you described actually sounds very similar to my blonde wig. My hair was really light before losing it. I got a wig with darker roots and blonde and reddish streaks through it. It is very pretty. I like the brunette wig, too. It also has red highlights. My friend Janine is coming into town this weekend and she's a hair dresser. She's colored my hair a couple times and did a nice job. I'm going to ask for her opinion. I like my hairdresser, but I don't really want to spend $100+ per month to get it colored. Hmmm...

I can't tell for sure but I think my eyebrows are coming out and growing in. I have hairs where I usually tweeze and i have some blank spots. I hope they don't come all the way out. I am 7 weeks PFC. My lashes on the other hand seem longer. Maybe i am just going crazy.

This post chemo brow/lash thing must be fairly common. During chemo, both my brows and lashes thinned, but it really was not noticeable with brow powder and mascara. I am 8 weeks PFC and in the last week or so I seem to have had additional thinning. My brows have some bald spots, although I can see short hairs growing in in those area. My top lashes are still there, but probably half of what they once were. The bottoms are almost gone - yesterday mascara only clung to one on the left and two on the right. If I look closely, there are tiny little hairs on the bottom. I hope those are new growth coming in and not just tiny hairs that have always been there and will stay tiny. They are too small for mascara.

Gina, exactly.....but I am sure your hubby still thinks you are beautiful! I am single, so if I go back to my wig, I have some 'splaining to do if and when we get to the wig-comes-off stage....at least with my own hair, I don't have to hide anything. But the wig makes me look better.

Brows/lashes: Yes, they fall out after chemo is finished, which seems so unfair. Just when you think you've dodged a bullet, it gets you! I'm 8 weeks pfc and I think mine haven't shed in about a week. I have tiny eyelashes on one side but not the other. I wear eyeliner so thick that I could give Cleopatra a run for her money.
And the lowest blow of all ... while my eyelashes are falling out, hair on my chin is growing back!

Westiemom: I'm sooooo envy You the courage to go topless to work!!!
I think i'm going to ditch my wig just before Holidays , end of May and just come back to work after that with my extra long about 5cm hair? lol
This is me now, but I'm still waiting for the hair at the front to be longer.

Ladies, your hair will start to come in really fast - trust me! For me it was a slow start, then starting coming in faster and faster...

Fearless One, I met up with a friend for breakfast this morning and she said my hair has grown quite a bit since I last saw her 2 weeks ago! I had no idea!! I swear I stare at my hair like I would stare at the phone as a teenager hoping it would ring.

9 months PFC - had my first haircut today - or should I say Chemo trim! I was watching very closely to make sure she didn't cut off to much! Still have my curls in back and one big cow lick in back. It looks like a mini bald spot - but it is just the way the hair is growing every which way. I am at the point now that people probably think I cut or wear my hair this short on purpose.
I am due to renew my drivers license in April, I sure hope my hair grows a little more before then.
Brows/lashes - for me, the inner part of the brow hung on, but everything else fell out by the time chemo was done. I had surgery after chemo, and since I was home for 6 weeks didn't wear makeup the first few weeks home. When I did finally get prettied up, realized I didn't have very many long eyelashes left. But, instead a lot of very short new ones. 9 months out - eyelashes all back.

Westiemom-I stare at my hair too...and my hubby says I talk about my hair all day long...lol! I guess we've earned the right to be a little hair obsessed!

Ladyinbama I am LOL right now...I felt the same way..the hair you hope never comes back seems to flourish!! I couldn't even enjoy one full summer month with hairless legs...NOPE first place it grew back.
My eyelashes took a while they kept coming in falling out, my PS said it will take a full year for eyebrows and lashes to return to normal. I finally have full set of lashes but they are short..my last chemo was May 17th.

I think losing my eyelashes and eyebrows will be worst than losing my hair. My eyelashes looks like spider-legs right now and I am practicing to put on false eyelashes, but so far without success

Lashes and Brows: Yes mine also fell out 8 weeks or so PFC... I was BEYOND bummed BUT I will say the lashes came back VERY fast... literally within about 2 weeks I had enough to put some mascara on LOL so I would worry much about false eyelashes it won't be for long.
KittyKat: I too thought your avatar pic was before cancer. you look great! I like the brunette too.
My hair is coming in so fast now. It did start straight (I forget who asked about that but someone did) I thought is was going to be straight and then it started the curl. Now it's a full blown POOF on top. In the morning I look like Elvis on a bad day... Have to shower every morning or wear a hat. Cowlicks everywhere. And curly. The color is a light brown. If you ever have seen Joel Osteen (the Houston preacher) I look more like him every day!!! LOL

I know question has been asked before on here, (maybe even by me with chemobrain going on..) but as your hair comes in and sticks straight up, what products are you using... either when it is wet or dry? I am using Nioxin shampoo, cond., and scalp treatment (wet hair). I have gone without scarves since Dec. and it is SLOWLY growing which is frustrating. It's stuck at this awkward phase. I'm happy to have hair, but would be happier with MORE. Have read Herceptin may be slowing the growth however my onc says no. Anyway... just curious what products you may be using. Have read a lot about Sally's Beauty products... Ion?? Just need specifics. Thank you for any suggestions.
Peace and Prayers.
