Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I had the extra inconvenience of having a very large head. Wigs in size "Large" are not nearly as plentiful.

MBJ - My hair is only about 2.5-3 inches long but the front is shorter. I too feel more comfortable wearing a wig and will probably continue to until the hair is an inch longer.

It is good that some of you liked your wig. I have two and hate both of them. I live in a small town of only 400 people...the nearest wig store is 3 and half hours away so I just ordered online. Maybe if I would have made the trip to the wig shop I would have been happier. Oh well...I have decided that I am not putting the "rat" on my head again! I will either go out bareheaded, wear a baseball cap, or stay home. The hair on the back of my head is starting to wave...not sure if it's curling or not...could just be bedhead or hathair...which I find thrilling because I used to not have enough hair to get messy!

I have four of them and am over all of them...I do wear them when I go out of the house, haven't been brave enough to go topless yet:)

Yikes! My hair was coming in straight and it looked cute, but now it's getting really curly (which is how my hair used to be). It doesn't look good. Is this what they call "chemo hiair"? I don't know when I'll be able to ditch my wig now! I think it's time to visit the hairdresser. bdavis - I remember wearing the wig for the first time; I was sure everyone could tell, but they couldn't. I have a really good wig. Hope you like yours and that chemo is going okay.

Thank Toni30... Yes, I am a bit concerned about my first wig outting.

If you have a good wig that is a decent match to you own hair, you will be surprised how few people even notice a change. I have a good friend who I have had lunch with twice since losing my hair and she has yet to notice anything. It cracks me up.

I am very disappointed with my hair growth. I am almost 10 weeks pfc and the hair on the back and sides is coming in good but on top I look all fuzzy and my hair is not filling in at all. My hair was thin on top before but at this rate it will be summer before I can go without my hat. I have not worn my wig since the end of October, I only wore it about 3 weeks total. I love it but just got tired of it, it slid on my head all the time and the hat was much easier, but now I am tired of wearing hats also. I go topless around the house and have even started taking my hat off in my office if it's a quiet day. I am so ready to be free all the time!

Irr4993... time will tell. I am blond with many different colors so it was hard to match... my wig is more of strawberry blond. I have gone out of my way recently to wear my hair differently so that come wig day people might just think I have once again done something different. I am fortunate that I can either go straight or quite wavy... all last week I wore my waves and then today went to work in a pony tail and straight bangs. I was kind of surprised when my assistant asked about my bangs, knowing that any day now I'll be wearing a wig... and I told her I cut bangs into my hair last month... guess she never noticed. So... maybe its only me who will notice my strawberry blond hair next week

Char: The front is the second to the last hair to grow back in--the last are all the baby hairs that frame your face and I just got those back maybe 2 months ago.

bdavis - I was really self conscious going out the first time with the wig. I felt like I was in the witness protection program! LOL!!! My blonde wig looks very much like my old hair. One of our techs at work asked me when I was going to lose my hair. Some lady that worked in a WIG SHOP did not know I was wearing a wig. And the best one... I ran into my hair dresser one day didn't know it was a wig until she touched my hair and I said, "It's a wig!"
I'm wearing my brunette wig in my profile pic. It's kind of heavy, so I got some thinning shears from Sally's and it's a little better. The lady at the wig shop also thinned the long bangs a bit to give them more bounce. I pull my blonde wig back with a clip. This really fools people. My 2 favorite wigs are the monafilament type, so it looks my hair is growing out of my scalp. I tried them on before buying them. I have a lace front that I wear occassionally. I also got a wavy one, but I think it looks too fake. My sister's wig is a little yellow for me, but is a nice human hair wig. The rest are synthetic.
fearless - I am like you, I really like the wigs. I don't like styling my hair.

Dawney-I had the same hair as you 10 weeks out. My bang area took forever! Hang in there!

My hair is coming in good, I am on weekly Taxol treatments. I have dark brown hair but it either is coming in gray or just appears to be with the white scalp underneath. Anyone else having this issue? Am I going gray?

I am on week 7 PFC. I have lots of little sprouts on all over my head. No lenghth really maybe 1/8" maybe a little longer in the sideburn area. Most of it looks dark but i think there will be some grey sine i ahd some grey beofre but i am not sure how much because i colored it for so many years. I am jsut happy it's gorwing at all right now. But I am getting impatient. I have been wearing hats all the time. I on ly wore my wigs a few times. I have three very different ones. I don't think people assume it's a wig when they see me but i feel very self conscious in it. I'd rather have a hat on and ahve people think my hiar is under there.

Just know that the hair that first grows in will usually change alot in 4 months! I went from weird, colorless fuzz, to steel grey to my original brunette with a little more grey in it!

Hi there--I have been reading all your posts --lurking around but not posting. Thanks for all the information and sharing your experiences.
I am 8 weeks PFC and I have hair all over but it is definitely thinner on top than the sides. I do not wear my wig anymore--like someone else mentioned--I feel like I am a spy in it. I'm not sure why I don't like it anymore--it cost a fortune--it just doesn't feel like me. I just wear scarves or hat. I am hoping that I will have a decent head of hair prior to returning to work sometime in April. I was meaning to take pictures each week so I could compare hair growth because when I ask my hubbie--I don't think that he is really looking very carefully!

rachel5738, Taking pictures helped me see that my hair was growing. I kept thinking it wasn't growing. I just took them myself with my phone. When I look back I can see that it is growing, although slower than I want. I am 5 months PFC and have about 1.5 inches of hair, but only about an inch in the front. I can't wait for bangs, which is funny because I use to hate them.

I keep thinking my bangs are way to short..I wish they were longer...but using that mini straightener has done wonders for the way I feel about my hair. It makes me look like i just have short hair. Yeah!
Thank you all for the kind words. I know I am on the right path to finding myself. I enrolled in college yesterday. But, today, I went to see the GYN because last week I started my period...after not having one since last march. The gyn thinks i am in menapause, and he ordered an untra sound and biopsy to check for endometrial cancer. He said that the chemo meds can cause it. I know better than to let myself get all in a whirl until I know for sure..i just am a bit worried. I have to wait till next week for the ultrasound and two weeks after that for the biopsy results. once again..waiting.

Emme: I have never heard this. Another thing to worry about! Now I'm thinking I'd better go see my ob/gyn.

For those worried about hair filling in in the front . . .I was kind of concerned about mine too until I realized that the angle you are looking at it makes a difference. Looking head on in a mirror, my front and top look thinner than the sides. However, if I turn my head so it is not straight on look at that area, it looks just as full of hair as the other areas. I guess it is light reflecting or something. Just something to try . . . it sure made me feel better.
I feel like I have hit a plateau with my hair. I am now 8 weeks PFC, and 4 weeks since I noticed some stubble. I almost have full coverage and about 1/4 inch all over, but I do not see as many changes daily as I did at first. Maybe it just gets harder to notice once it gets a bit longer?

Hang in there lrr4993! I'm now 13 weeks pfc and the last few weeks it feels like my hair is really coming in quickly. I actually have bedhead when I wake up in the morning now

Wow - I would love bed head!! Who would have thought we would ever long for bed head?! One milestone I have noticed in the last week is that my hair now holds moisture. Up until this week, I could just run the towel over it after showering and it was dry. Now it stays damp for a while. I have been using the hair dryer for the first time in a few months, although admittedly it only takes about a minute to dry it out. LOL.

I'm currently doing dd ACT which I started Dec 22nd so I have had three so far. My hair started falling out a couple of weeks ago. I read about silk pillowcases being good for your hair so I bought one at Bed, Bath and Beyond (it was in a package called 'As Seen On Tv) for $24.95 Canadian. It really slowed down my hair loss! I wish I would have got it earlier. I only have maybe 20 to 25% of my hair left but still....I was shocked. I don't wake up with tons of hair on the pillow anymore. Plus, I think the silk pillowcase will be good for hair re-growth because cotton and poly sheets are rough on the hair and scalp. I have to say...I'm loving my wig! It is alot more comfortable if you wear a stocking cap on your head with the wig overtop....not itchy and it doesn't slide around.

A customer complimented me on my hair (wig) today. She said, "I just love it, it is so pretty." Again... another reason to keep wearing it! LOL!!!

My daughter bought me a satin pillowcase for Mother's Day last year because she read somewhere that it was more comfortable for hair loss during chemo. I cried and smiled at the same time.
MBJ, apparently there is an increased risk of endometrial cancer with Tamoxifen, although it is a small risk. I see that you are triple neg, so I assume that you are not taking it. No need to rush to the ob/gyn. BTW, your hair looks great.

Okay, so I got some crazy idea to look at the wig website to determine how I'm going to grow out my hair.
So this is a just slightly longer version of what my hair looks like now (except mine looks more like bed head):
I want to get it styled soon to look more like these pics:
Then, I want it to look like these pics:
Maybe I should have gone more blonde (now that I've dyed my hair dark brown). Huh?????

Okay, here we go.... Blonde or Brunette???
Here's a pic of my blonde wig:
And with the brunette wig:
And with my cat (LOL)
I'm naturally brunette, but I've been blonde for 15 years (because I was turning gray).
What do you guys think???

Kittycat - defo brunette! You look great in both, but I think the brunette brings out your colouring and eyes much nicer!! I like the styles you have chosen too, I have such crazy curls that I havnt even attempted to straighten my hair, over a year out of chemo!0
-
Kittycat- you look great as a brunette! It does make your eyes pop and compliments your skin. You're beautiful!
I am having so much fun watching my hair grow in! It's barely an inch long and so thick (at least on top). This is my last day in Puerta Vallarta and I just might color it a dark chestnut brown before going home. Does the shine come back ever? Or is this first hair stuff that will need to be cut off because it's chemo hair? I've been slathering coconut oil in this week hoping to have healthy shiny hair. I even used the oil on my legs while in the sun...needed some color! All in moderation.0 -
Are you using the coconut oil meant for cooking. I just bought some - so I'm wondering.
