This thread is so encouraging to so many women.  I think the thing to remember is that, like with surgery or treatments, each of us is different and so is our hair growth.  I truly appreciate all the pictures that are on here.  I plan on putting mine up once I have more to show, but I will also include my 5 week picture.  I just realized some of my pics aren't very clear, so I'll make sure they are from now on.  I noticed there aren't as many pictures of Hair on Timtam's pic forum.  I keep thinking I can see a bit of a shadow on my scalp now but only in certain light.  The dark hairs are coming in patches, less on the top but again my top was white before chemo.  Very anxious to use natural hair coloring, but I want to wait to see exactly how much color I have left.  I've dyed it for so many years, I honestly have no clue what my natural hair looks like!

facial hair or fuzz. There was another thread about that.

It happened to me and I used a electric razor and shaved it off, after the third time it stopped growing. It is now back to what I had before everything fell out. I also stopped the Biotin when the facial fuzz started.

I am back to taking Biotin to help my fingernails. I never had an issue thru Chemo, but within the last two months have noticed that they are dry, cracking and have ridges in them. Any one else dealing with this after Herceptin is done? It is interesting that it is only my thumb nails and pinkies that are affected. My toenails are all fine, and I did ice during taxotere.

OK here it is. This is a chart of my hair growth from 4 weeks PFC until now at 13 weeks PFC. I am using nioxin 3 step products and taking 5,000 mcg of biotin a day. Any adivse on speeding things up?

I think your hair looks great too!  Even coverage and everything.  I would definitely go without a hat if I had that much coverage.  I'm just 5 weeks pfc and look similar to your 4 week pic... but man when yours decided to grow, it grew!

Carrol I saw your hair in person and I thought you could go hatless too. Granted you do look cute with the hat.

Carrol you are going to have a great head of hair in no time! You're hair growth looks great and coming in very even. I had those same patches, they get covered up. I'm sure your wish of being able to go topless in 3 weeks will happen. Take care!!

Carrol - you have more hair than me and I am about 3 weeks ahead of you.  I have been going topless for about 3 weeks.  You should go for it!

WOW you all look great! Carol I can't believe how much of your hair hung on throughout chemo. I had some strands but not that much.

Lago you can color your hair sooner than 6 months but it may not hold. I colored my hair at 3 months and it was a lovely shade of green Frown After that fiasco I then used a semi perm Natural Instincts and it worked much better washed out in 28 washes but actually lasted longer.

If I'm ready to go topless my hair will be colored… and colored by a professional.

Carol:  You have tons of hair!  I think you are just going to have to allow nature to take it's course as it's doing a find job already.  BTW:  My hair came in very grey at first but after 6 months it went back to being mostly black with lots of grey.

I carried on wearing my wig for 9 months after my chemo had finished.  It got too uncomfortable though with my hair, the wig cap and then the wig on top of that.  I had really bad chemo curls so got an organic Brazilian Blow Dry back ini September which helped a lot.  15 months on from chemo I have got to a stage where I can finally tame my hair.  It's around 7 inches long now.

MBJ it's encouraging to hear that my hair won't stay this gray. I know I had gray but not this much!

    Hi Ladies Just checkin in...

I had my hair colored and highlighted last week...and hold on to your shorts :) a tiny trim in the back to even out the ends. the first scissor action my hair has seen since nov 09...

My hair is still crazy curly. It resembles an elderly lady's perm.  I straighten it and I'm thankful for it every day!

Flying to my Daughter's on Friday.  I am sooo excited to be getting outtta Dodge...I will be in North Carolina for 10 days...yippeeee!  Warm weather would be a bonus too!

    Carrol

Thanks so much for the comprehensive and inspiring pics.  I am about to have my fourth of six chemo treatments.  Like you, I have kept a fine coverage of hair.  I am so looking forward to regrowth and I hope I do as well as the ladies who have posted pics here.

Thanks all for sharing and may your hair continue to grow FAST.

It's good to hear that my growth seems normal. I guess we all feel it can't grow fast enough.

Yes, now that I've seen a whole lot more photos, mine does, too!  It's so different for everyone.  Mine really took months to "fill in" before I started getting length.

I'm with you, Lago: my days of self-color are over (and were generally a disaster).

I think I posted this last week but I will post again in case someone missed it. My sister used this shampoo and her hair grew a lot faster she wears hair extension and she was having to have them adjusted in 3 wks instead of 6wks. Her hair dresser asked her what she was using and told her to stop using it that it was going to cost her more by having  to coming in more often. I just started using it Mon. so I can't say yet if it is going to make my hair grow faster but it is called Biotin B complex I ordered it online it is organic, I figured I don't have anything to lose, the bottle says its is a thicking shampoo.

I am using the nioxin shampoo system. I don't know what works or doesn't. My oncologist does not prescribe anything because there is nothing that is FDA approved. She said she has not found a difference in any of her patients that use special shampoos in the speed of growth. I can't tell if anything works since i started to use the nioxin about 3 weeks PFC. Either way you figure my hair was going to start to grow at that point. I bought the small bottles and it's 9 weeks and I have about half left. I have been debating on trying something else when this runs out but since everything is coming along normal i think i will continue what I am doing.

I had been using nioxin for 2 years because I have always had thinner hair and it really didn't make a difference in my hair. I used it until I bought this one(biotin b complex) I also have a cosmetology license and scalp massage is one of the best stimulator's along with a good shampoo.

Iowa Sue:  That is great advice--I am not a hairstylist, nor an expert, just know what works on me ad what my own stylist has recommended.  I will check out this product!  Maybe you could advise both Nancy (see her question adressed to me above) and myself regarding hair needing to be dyed every two weeks--I find the rogaine has a tendency to wash out my roots and so I need touching up more often.  Thank you!

IowaSue:  I went on Amazon.com and looked at the reviews for this product and there were some complaints that it lifts color.  Your thoughts on this?

Ladies thanks so much for sharing your hair photos!  It's great to see how everyone is "growing"!

I am almost 14 PFC and I think I have finally found a system that works for me for styling these gray dried chemo curls.

I wash my hair with regular shampoo and conditioner (Pantene - Frizzy to Smooth) then I use Marc Anthony Style Straight Instant Straightening Cream (thanks MBJ!) on my damp hair, I blowdry with a vented round brush pulling my hair straighter, then I apply John Freida Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme and lastly I spray on a hairspray that its humidity resistant and gives me a light hold L'Oreal Elnett Satin.

Today I got so many compliments on my hair and it's pouring rain here!

Michele I was using John Frieda Frizz-Ease Weather Works on my damp hair (used this pre-chemo too) but I found that it didn't help with the dryness as much as the Marc Anthony product does.

Color -you could use a daily rinse, that is color  you use every day after you shampoo its very gentle. The daily rinse at wal mart, I had to look hard for it and it was on the top shelf. Same brand they use in beauty shops. Semi permanent or a 30 day color is not as damaging as permanent color but would probably need to be use more ofter than permanent because we wash our hair every day. I think the perm. color is hard to use on short hair because it is not suppose to be on the scalp and with such short hair how do you keep it off the scalp while applying? The daily rinse will get you some color until it is long enough to put on the perm.color.

Hi ladies! It has been quite some time since I've been on here. I've been trying to get back into the groove of every day life. I had my 1 year cancerversary back in February...which I went out to celebrate with some drinks because I'm choosing to look at it as a good thing - I'm still here, cancer loses! I also had my first haircut! That was exciting. My hair has been growing in pretty fast, at least, that's what everyone tells me. It has begun to curl and do its own thing, no matter what I tell it. It's more wavy than curly right now, but I'm just waiting. I'll take it over nothing though! I'm 7 months PFC. Can't wait til I can grow it long...then I plan on donating it. Hope you have all been doing well! <3</p>
