Thanks!! I used to dream about hair ALL THE TIME! I hated all the shampoo and hair commercials and would avoid those aisles in the stores. But it's surprising how fast it grows once it gets going!

Carrol, lots of hair. You have more hair than I did. Is it fine?

MelBell, love your color and hairstyle.

I am 5.5 months, waiting for another month or so to color it for the first time. My hair is very fine.

For those that use Nioxin, which system are you using? My hair is fine, untreated (for next two months the most). Not sure which one to buy.

nokola my hair was always fine it feels like stuffed animal fur lol. But it is fine. I use the nioxin 2, 3 step products. I don't know if it's working or not but it doesn't hurt. I can feel my scalp gets all tingly from it.

Mel - Your hair looks great. You are 1 month ahead of me, but mine is curly. Getting my first trim tomorow and PRAYING she can figure out what to do.

Lago - My face hair disappeared sometime around the 5th month post-chemo. Hang in there.

Hi MelBell, it's been a long time.  You look great, your hair is lovely.

lago, I also left the facial hair, and it disappeared by itself, about 3-4 months PFC.  It reminded me of the soft hair that my kids had when they were newborn, and I looked at it as a rebirth after chemo for me.  Kind of cheesy, but it helped.

Carol:  Just remember to take it slow.  Have you found the Breast Implant Sizing 101 or Exchange City threads yet?  There are so many great women there to help you through this process!

I can't believe how great everyone looks with their short hair.

    IowaSue:  Thank you!

All the new hair pictures are beautiful, keep them coming ladies.  My hair has started to get wavy and frizzy, I will be looking for the products you have all mentioned to see which will work best for me.  My husband loves that I finally have hair, but he likes to pet me, if it makes him feel better that is ok with me.  What is really funny is people's reaction who did not know I lost my hair because they only saw me with the wig.  The looks on their faces is priceless.

Thanks everyone! Makes me feel good. I really don't care for it, to be honest, but I don't like to complain since I'm happy I even have anything. My hair was the same color before, and it was wavy before, although not as much as it is now. I've been using KMS California Hairplay texture blast and Prive detailing pomade to try to get me through the awkward stage. It helps a little...and makes my hair smell good :)

Guygirl - that's so funny about your husband "petting" your head.  My 9 year old did that all the time when my hair was first coming in!  I kind of loved it that he felt comfortable enough with the whole thing to do that!

Melbell - your hair is super cute!  I WISH my hair had that level of "wave" instead of my now-boingy little curls!  The curls at my bang-line are the worst and the most frustrating.  I had straightish hair before - and while I do appreciate having it at all, I feel like this is someone else's hair (or even someone else's WIG!) that I am being forced to figure out.

I did buy the Marc Anthony Straight stuff last night, and today is my day to go in and get color and a trim, so I'm hoping to turn a corner today and start feeling better about my hair! I'm going to LA with my daughter (she's a freshman in college and it's her spring break - girls trip for just us!) and I want to leave my wig at home and not have her feel weird about it either - plus I want to feel cute-ish while strolling around in Beverly HIlls and Melrose, etc!!  So vain.

I still wear my wig out in the most public places in case I run into a client (they don't know about my cancer) and I hate it now - it doesn't really even fit right anymore.  I'll re-post updated pics later today after I get all fixed up, and I'm counting on you ladies to be honest with me about going topless - the thing for me is that because of my clients not knowing about all this, and me trying to pass the wig off as my hair, I need my hair to look like a haircut someone would go out and get before I go topless at work...

MelBell I think your hair looks awesome.

Guygirl My husband "pets" my head too. Maybe they think it will bring them good luck.

Saramom when did you notice your hair was coming in curly? I think mine is still too short to tell. I had straight hair before. I'm really hoping it isn't curly but if it is it's staying really short for a year until my natural hair grows back… or my hair dresser is going to relax it Tongue out

    Saralmom,

my son 10 y/o also like to pet my head all the time and puts his cheek on my head, it's so sweet he has been following very closely the growth but felt very comfortable with it all the time, a novelty. My daughte 13 y/o the total opposite, tries to ignore that this even happened, at the beginning she used to joke and call me boldy but now she just begs me not to go out without my wig.

Carol:  Never mind-just saw your posts there!

Ladies, I just had a bunch of bood work up to determine why I am still having hair loss.  This is what I have learned.  My Dr. put me on bioidentical estrogen and my numbers are now up.  However, my blood test results show my DHEA (male hormones) are through the roof and I have no progesterone.  I think once I add progesterone to the mix, the DHEA should lower and so will the hair loss.  After going on line and doing research, I have also discoverd that a diet high in bread and grains can also cause an imbalance of DHEA which can contribute to hair loss.  So, for those of you still dealing with hair loss long after the chemo is completed, going to a hormone specialist could be beneficial.  I hope this helps someone!

    Happy Hair Day!

What about us who are going to remove ovaries? Should I expect hair loss/thinning?

Nikola:  From what I understand, we all have a hormonal imbalance after chemo.  I am not sure how a dr. would proceed with the ovaries removed, however, we could all benefit from a consultation with someone experienced in bioidentical hormones.

Nikola:  I unfortunately know the most probable answer to your question.  We don't get HRT's or bioidenticals.  At least, so far that's what I'm being told.  My gyn surgeon did extensive research on the matter, and can't find studies done for BRCA+ people with no ovaries who decided to take bioidenticals.  The research she did find indicated we "should" be ok to do bioidenticals and she would have been/is willing to do it.  However, the problem is my oncologist.  When my surgeon asked my oncologist's blessing, her nurse said "NO, we don't do that".  So my surgeon is going to speak directly to the onc asap to have a "dr to dr" talk and see what happens.  As for hair loss after ooph... I've been told I should be fine.  Your body continues making a small amount of estrogen, allbeit not much.  I believe it comes from thyroid and fat cells.  However, I have zero fat.  You can get estrogen from soy, but I'm told it's a different type and one we must be cautious of.

Thank You cc4npg. I was worried about my hair after T/C, now I have to worry about it again. I have good coverage but it is fine-textured. It always was.I only can hope it would not come suddenly. My mother and grandmother had some thinning in menopause but it was noticeable when they were for 10-15 years in menopause.

I almost bought semi permanent color today. Does it really wash in 28 days? I am afraid to use henna as I never used it and my hair now is light brown (natural hair was ash blond).

nikola:  My natural color was dishwater blonde, which I think is like ash blonde.  The henna will give you a red cast.  How far out from chemo are you?  I've heard chemo hair doesn't dye well, and henna might turn out greenish.  I don't know.  I'm about 5.5 wks pfc and I still see lots of scalp.  However, I will say my head is covered with small white fuzz or hairs, and I do see some tiny dark dots coming in.  I'll be happy to get coverage.. I don't care if it's gray or white.  I can always fix that.  My oncologist and surgeon told me hair thinning was more age related than anything else.  I sure hope they're right!  I know many younger women have had ooph's and their hair is fine, so I tend to think it may have to do with age and genetics in general.  My family tends to have very good coverage until about 80, then it thins.

cc4npg, I am 22 weeks out. Last 6 weeks I am wigless. It was very short then, now is just about right.

At 5.5 weeks I only had some white fuzz. In couple of weeks you would notice that famous shadow and then you can really see difference from day to day.

I tried to color my hair a year after chemo & it turned it bright RED.  My hair dresser had to go back a put a lot of brown to tone it down.  I didn't try to do color again until about a year later & it looks great now.  BUT I am one of those who's hair was very slow to return.  In fact 2 1/2 years later I am still getting hair back.  So I would be real careful about color. BTW my hair is very fine. NJ
