A stupid question
What happens with the white fuzz? Will it fall out when the "real" hair start to grow?
I have 4 Taxol (and Hereceptin) left and the white fuzz started to grow a couple of weeks ago, I have a lot on top of my head but not so much on the sides.

cc4npg: Thanks for your input on bioidenticals for BRCA1's. I hope your dr's come to an agreement.
InTwoPlaces: I shaved off the first growth, about an inchm because it was so uneven. That fuzz will not take dye and my hair grew in really fast after I shaved it.

IowaSueI44,
How many weeks post chemo? Looks good, I am in the midst of chemo and come to this board for encouragement. I have stuble on my legs between my chemos, TAC every 3 weeks, anyone else experince this? I actually need to shave if I want to get a massage and not have stuble, how unfair is that!!

Carrol,
Looks good, are you ready to go topless? Looks like you have kept lashes and brows too? Keep posting pictures!

Carrol2: What software are you using to do your pics in that format? Just wondered. I plan on putting mine side by side once I get a little further out.0

Looking good Carrol, I already dyed mine. Onco said it was okay on Wednesday and I dyed it on Friday. Got my nails and toes done today. I want lashes and brows sooooo badly. I am happy with the hair growth I have being only 2 weeks post chemo. Mine began growing on the Taxol so I have complete coverage just not much length. I will post pics this week. I am having surgery on Wednesday so I will try to do it before then. I have started my reconstruction journey in the pic forum in the well burnt section since I will be having rads. Carrol you did get a date?

LOL with Photoshop you can make your hair as long as you want!!!! Not that you did that Carrol! Mine also started to grow on Taxol, but I still just have fuzz, between 3/8 and 1/2" I am definitely grateful for the fuzz and it's hard to resist feeling it. I have no eyelashes and perhaps 5 or 6 hairs on my brows. That kinda sucks. I'm getting good at drawing them on though. OMG I got nice Lancome stuff at LGFB class and I'm hooked. They have a really nice eyebrow pencil with a brush on the other end. Looks pretty good!

Hair???? Still waiting....it is beginning but again the color looks to be shades of grey....used to have light brown hair with blonde highlights....wonder what it will be now? Also eyebrows and eyelashes are gone but I think the eye lashes are beginning to grow back...sure will be glad when the eyebrows do as well...just the little things, but will be glad when things return....I too don't really count the first three weeks after the last chemo...

Joan you look great with short hair. I can't wiat for mine to grow as long as the wig in my avatar. I never liked myself with short hair. I only cut it short, not this short, once in my 20s I got a shag. I hated it. After that I always had at leas shoulder length hair.
Thanks for all the encouraging words from everyone on my hair. I still am not ready to go topless. You can't tell so much in the pictures but there is a lot of grey in there. My husband keeps teasing me. He is all 99% grey and has been since he was about 35 we are 46 now. I think I will dye it as soon as I can but i never colored my hair myself. I think when I am at 16 weeks which is 2 more weeks, I will get it shaped a bit. I still have these slightly longer hairs from the ones that never fell out. Also i have hair growing on the back of my neck that should be shaved into a shape.
KCMOM my surgery date to get my TEs is March 29th. I am very nervous but excited at the same time. It wasn't supposed to be until April or May but they got a cancelation. I went to Saint Lukes and had a consultation there, where they showed me the expanders and implants and explained it all to me which was good. He was going to see if they could take my medicaid but i doubt it. For me this symbolizes the beginning of the end or this ordeal. My sister is flying up from Key west to be with me for a week. I really want her here more for moral support than anything else.

Carol- if you missed my post about color I will re-post. You can buy a daily color its just a rinse you just put it on after you shower Then there is a 30 day color but you may have to use it 1x a week because we shampoo daily if you shampoo less often it will last longer. But both of these are not damaging to the hair no chemicals. they will get you by until you can use the permanent. Just a tip.

Lago: what's going on w/ your nails. Taxotere destory my nails. I ended up cutting them down really short, buffing them, and polishing them w/ a nude polish. They look so much better.

I was told not to color for 6 months but I think just because it can turn strange color. I am 23 weeks now and have not colored my hair yet. It started as white fuzz that lasted for 3-4 weeks, then as it was growing in was salt and pepper (I did not have single gray hair before chemo). Salt and pepper phase lasted for good two months. Then, it turned to be dark as opposed to my natural ash blond. I was dark for maybe a month and now people are telling me I am getting lighter. Curls are setting in now, too.
I have not noticed any fall down so I do not know what happened with fuzz and/or gray hairs.

lowsue44 thanks for the tip. Where would i buy something like that? Will it cover the grey? How do i know what color to use?0

Carol-
Temporary hair color is available in various forms including rinses, shampoos, gels, sprays, and foams. Temporary hair color is typically brighter and more vibrant than semi-permanent and permanent hair color.
The pigment molecules in temporary hair color are large and cannot penetrate the cuticle layer. The color particles remain adsorbed (closely adherent) to the hair shaft and are easily removed with a single shampooing. Temporary hair color can persist on hair that is excessively dry or damaged in a way that allows for migration of the pigment to the interior of the hair shaft. It lasts for about a few hours to 1 day.
Semi-permanent hair dye has smaller molecules than temporary dyes, and is therefore able to partially penetrate the hair shaft. For this reason, the color will survive repeated washing, typically 4-5 shampoos or a few weeks. Semi-permanents contain no, or very low levels of developer, peroxide or ammonia, and are therefore safer for damaged or fragile hair. However, semi-permanents may still contain the toxic compound p-phenylenediamine or other such ingredients.
The final color of each strand of hair will depend on its original color and porosity, so there will be subtle variations in shade across the whole head. This gives a more natural result than the solid, all over color of a permanent dye. However, it also means that gray or white hairs will not dye to the same shade as the rest of the hair. If there are only a few grey/white hairs, the effect will usually be enough for them to blend in, but as the gray spreads, there will come a point where it will not be disguised as well. In this case, the move to permanent color can sometimes be delayed by using the semi-permanent as a base and adding highlights.
Semi-permanent color cannot lighten the hair.
You can order it online from beauty supply. Or walmart, wal green, kmart. The daily rinse in wal mart is the same brand as the professional shops fanci-full they mostly light medium and dark, I think it would give the grey some color. Its only $5 so you won't be out much and you will probablly get several uses out of it. By the looks of you hair I'd get a med. brown.

wow hey thanks for all the info. Perhaps I will get the courage to try this myself. I do want to see a hairdresser at least once to cut off the frizzy strands that are sticking out that are longer than the rest because they are the ones that never fell out.
I have my TE surgery in 16 days. I still don't feel comfy going topless with this hair. I may not get to that point until it's too warm to wear a hat in Kansas City. I want to see my hairdresser right before my surgery so I wont feel so weird without a hat in the hospital and because i probably wont want to go for a long time after, until i feel better.

Dominika - you are stunning! You look better with short hair than you do with long hair (and you are pretty with long hair).

Nikola,
I've now had a full hysterectomy including having my ovaries removed so far no signs of my hair thinning. Just the normal side effects of hot flashes and such. So far my hair is still growing and staying thick.
