I know it's really hard to have patients when you are anxious, but the hair will come back fast and it definitely comes back thicker. After coloring it back to blond I could see by the 'outgrowth' how fast it actually did grow. Give it a good 9 weeks after last tx to come in with a vengeance.

Has anyone else's eyebrows grown back standing straight up? I hate to be complaining since I was without them for so long, but why won't they lay down like they are suppose too?!!

I am still on chemo and have "fuzz" on my head, has anyone else had this and is it normal hair?? Hair on legs et al started to grow back too.............Chemo until mid March, been on it since OCT 08'.

mom_of_2 So glad you found the baby flat iron! My hair is still a little too short but I'm using it on the longest section and it works Great! I'm visiting my beautician for a color this next week and I can't wait to go!

That's what I'm thinking, If I color it back to blond (as you say) I will be able to see the "outgrowth".
I agree with Otter too. Mine was slow at first, and then seemed to pick up speed more recently. I think it is at first tentatively growing back in, wondering if it's going to get zapped by chemo again!!!
And Artsee, I would agree. I am about 10-11 weeks post the last treatment, and it's been recently that I've noticed the growth in a different way. I think I may be over the hump.
I also used the Nioxin Hair Folicle stimulator stuff. One bottle, Not sure if that made a difference or not, but the Dr. and Nurses at the treatment center seemed to think I had better growth and coverage than others at the same "time out" from last tx, if that means anything!

NancyD explained Gasparilla perfectly. In my opinion, its just a reason to party. We started out the day in the Harbour watching the Pirate ship come to shore. Afterwards is a parade where lots and lots of beads are thrown to spectators. We hiked it to a friends house who lives on the parade route for food, fun and dancing. Needless to say my feet hurt and I will be going to bed early tonight.

So why is it that the hair is growing in faster and darker on my chin then on my head?? Also, today I noticed 2 dark hairs in my cheekbone area??? Needless to say, they are no longer there!

Springtime... I'm still using my Nioxin stuff also.. I'm 24 weeks out I'm on my 2nd set of Nioxin treatments.
Hood1980 I had several crazy eyebrows...and my eyelashes came back really wild at first.
curleqs I did have some hair that suck around during chemo... fuzz on top and a few on my neckline...

OMG my eyebrows did this too and still are. I am almost 11 months post chemo! ugh . and funny thing is I never lost them to begin with they just thinned alot as did my eyelashes.

The chin, cheek, neck hairs are also driving me BATZ!!! They are coming back with a vengance! I have a compact with mirror and tweezers out in a sunny spot and this has become a daily activity!

Ok ... so I have about an inch or less of hair and I did my best to "spike" it up today. Tonight I am being recognized with my "senior" daughter at the half time of the basketball game. Just a little nervous....

Really interesting so I thought I would share that I never completely shaved my head, and I never lost every strand of hair. I left about an inch or two, and it was really sparse with my scalp gleaming through but not completely bald. Now that I have a 5 o'clock shadow on my head 10 weeks past chemo, those "old" hairs are falling out! Isn't that kind of weird? Why didn't they fall out before? It looks really funny with the dark blond "long" strands and the blackish-gray shadow coming in.

tbird, I think that's why most women go ahead and shave it all off. In the end, most will fall out simple from the strain of having gone though the chemo and the thrust of new hair coming in below it. Out with the old, in with the new.

I'm jumping the gun on the hair ... I started chemo up again Jan. 29th, tomorrow I go for my next one. Should be done in mid-March or April the lastest! Anyway... my last AC was Oct. 30th, then I had my surgery in December, so I had a good 12 week break from chemo. This is what has grown back... so far. I so wish it didn't have to go, again! I went commando over the weekend to the store, and it felt so good not to wear that rug on my head in public!

Hi everyone! I start today..on tx1. I am thinking of having my hair cut shorter....to not have to worry about all the hair falling out....but to have a little fun. I have never had really short hair, so why not now!

I think cutting your hair is a great idea. My husband and son cut my ponytail off right after diagnosis. I felt like it was the only thing I was in control of...when I lost my hair. I found cutting it was very liberating. Short hair was new to me and sooooo easy...quick shower...towel dry and out the door! I'd laugh at how long it took my daughter to dry and fix her hair and wondered how many hours of my life had I lost to primping!

mom_of_2, I think that's why a lot of women leave their hair short after going through this. They've come to realize that they can look great and leave themselves a lot of time that othewise would be spent taking care of it. I know, I've considered it.
However, I think I will grow it back to the pre-bc length just to prove to myself that I can. Then I will decide whether to cut it short. I kind of like the length it is now...about 1-2". It just needs to lose the chemo curls to be stylish.

I completely agree...I want to let my hair grow to feel it on my shoulders again but will not be afraid to chop it off! Chemo curls are tough...I have 2 inches of tight curls...looks like I just had perm rods taken out! Shirley Temple has nothing on me! I hope with some length it will straighten out a bit!

You know, I think that one of the main reasons I liked having my hair straightened last weekend was the control aspect. It's not that I have anything against curls -- but ever since I lost my hair last April, chemo has been in control -- first chemo hair loss, then chemo regrowth.... My hairdresser labored for over half an hour with the flatiron, but when she was done I had a style that I had chosen. I tried to keep it for as long as possible but it started poofing out like crazy (these curls cannot be kept down for long) so I ended up using decorative combs and clips on Monday to get it to calm down (plus some creme and gel to control the frizzies). So now I have a new "elective" look when I want it -- and just having the front pulled off my back gives the illusion of longer hair.
I took before and after pics but they seem to have disappeared off my digital camera when the battery ran out of charge.
I didn't think that could happen! Oh well, next time... I'm going to a wedding at the end of the month and I think I'm going to get it straightened again. There is no way I could do it myself -- no time, no patience, don't want to spend the $ on a good flatiron, and I'm afraid of burning myself!I love this thread - thanks everyone for keeping it up!

LorenaB How long is your hair? I got a baby flat iron and they are not expensive and work really well and are not hard to use because they are so small.

smile 2006 It does make it easier when it starts falling out if you have shorter hair... I did mine in three cuts....shorter, short then shortest...I didn't buzz it completely and I did keep some random hairs on my head during chemo.

My hair is about 4 inches long. But it is sooo curly, I need a professional grade flatiron -- a friend tried to use both her regular one and a "baby" on me and they didn't work at all. The expensive ones get hotter, apparently -- and I'm afraid of burning off an ear or something, ouch!

LorenaB Ouch now don't do that!!! My hair is also very very very curly...but much shorter than yours...When mine is still wet I blow dry it ...brushing it with a hard brush then I keep blowing it a little longer....then I use a very small about of gel... then use the baby flat iron on the stubborn curls that don't straighten .then use a shine freeze hair spray...Sounds like alot but it just take a few minutes...Will try to post a pic later...My hairdresser showed me how to do it.

Ladies, you give me hope. My last tx was Nov.7th. I may have 1/2 inch of hair. Curls or not, I just want it to grow so I can get rid of this cursed wig.
