Last chemo for me was Nov 4, 2008. I have about 2 inches of very curly, very grey hair. A week before my surgery I went to my hair dresser who used Fratesi All Natural hair color. Time for a root touch up and I am happy to report that the color held very well! BUT I have lost my lashes twice to date :(

My goodness, mom_of_2!  How did you manage to grow 2 inches of hair in just 12 weeks???  Mine had barely started growing back after 8 weeks, and was maybe half an inch long at 12 weeks.

I want to know too!  My last tx was July and, although my hair is different lengths, the longest is still only an inch and a half!  And that's with popping biotin and silica continuously ever since...!

    Fertilizer...chemo was fertilizer...LOL!

I had 20 consecutive weeks total. Started with 8 weeks of Abraxane/Herceptin where I lost every hair on my body on day 14. Then I was switched to Vinoreline/Herceptin and by the end of week 20 hair was already sprouting!

Eye lashes are another story...ughhhh! For the second time they are at the stick together length if I use mascara. Any suggestions?

Wow  mom_of_2 thats alot of hair!!!!  Are you using something special? I have maybe 1 inch after 23 weeks and that's stretching it...hehehe  Hey I found this great picture of a very very short hair cut that I'm growing toward...So I have a plan and that helps!  Also I got an itsy bitsy teeny weenie flat iron....I did try it on my hair this morning...hehehe well it made me feel like I had hair !!

GREAT PICTURE...I wish I looked like that!

Heehee I tried a flat iron too just because I don't know what to do with these curls! I liked the effect but have only tried it a couple of times. I think I need a thinner iron. Is it working for you? Is you hair coming in really really curly? I've been told the curls usually calm down over time...kinda like baby hair changes.

My hair grew fast pre-BC and chemo didn't seem to effect that. Before I had to get my roots dyed about every 5-6 weeks. Now at 7 weeks I have close to an inch of grey. The only supplements I take are multi vit, calcium magnesium, vit D

Sunshine - great pix.  I had dh start taking a picture of me every Saturday when I finished chemo. Although it seemed slow at the time, in retrospect once it started, it came in like gangbusters.  It's really fun 6 months later to go back to look at those pix - I was so proud when the first peach fuzz came in!!!

mom_of 2  Yup I have very short kinky curls..when it's wet I use a round brush and blow it dry to calm down the curls...then I use tiny bit of La Bella waterbase Gel pomade.  My flat iron is tiny...and I  use it in a few places where my hair is longest...but it just stands straight up! I think I use it more to make me feel like I have hair!  Silly me.  I'm loosing my eyelashes again also. 2nd time for me too.  I just put my eyeliner on a little thicker.  My daughter says I'm the only one that notices!  Oh and so everyone knows I don't look like the picture but sure would like to!!!!

Natsfan  I wish I would have done that....but I just couldn't look at myself without hair...I was very scary and when I saw myself in the mirror I would scream...thinking someone was in my house!

Definitely alot of hair there mom. My last chemo was Sept 17. I just got  my teensy weensy cut and did a non perm color myself. I have never colored my hair before. I used Clarol Natural Instincts Golden Honey.

Here are my pics. Row 1: My real hair and my first hair cut before buzzing it. Row 2: My buzz cut, my first wig, then no eyelashes or eyebrows. Row 3: The start of hair growth and my second wig. Row 4: Pics just taken. Its been about 16 weeks. You can also see the weight gain in my face.   Lori

Hi I am another one waiting anxiously for any signs of hair growth on my head.  Yes the chin hairs have started and even some around my eyebrows.  Yesterday my daughter said that my head looked darker so maybe it is starting to sprout.  My last AC chemo was 12/15/08 so next Monday I will be 7 weeks out and counting.  I am excited I just scheduled my DIEP reconstruction for April 29th,  Another thing to look forward to.

I'm about the same as goldie's last photo.  My hair's never been a fast grower. I never achieved the 1/2" per month that's supposed to be average. But I'm happy with my progress. A little longer and I might actually have enough to style.

    Sunshine,

I LOVE that cut you pasted above, I'm printing it out! I have always had long hair , well prior to BC of course, and now I'm actually looking forward to cute short do!

susan13....Hey that's great!  I thought it was a great short style and one that would not be too hard to grow to!   I also had long hair prior to BC. So I'm going to experiment with alot of the short doos!

Sunshine... how do you paste picture in a message like that?  I'm about 3 months post my last chemo and I'd like to share what's on top ... right now.   Unfortunately I'm assuming it's all going to start to fall out again cause I started up treatment up again yesterday for another 2 months.  But it'll grow back once and for all, and this new do is my goal too!

Susan ... all I did was copy and paste the picture. You can also hit the little picture icon at the top of where you type your post and insert your copied pic.  So sorry you had to start up treament again...that SUCKS ... I understand about the goal ... if I have a plan I do much better ... even if it's hair.

I am about 40 weeks post chemo and that is pretty accurate for me as well (the pics I mean).  I have had a fews haircuts to keep it under control.  I love that short hair pic too... wish I knew how to make my hair do that.  I also bought the tiniest flat iron and use it just to calm the bangs down a bit.  I am still practicing.  I need to figure out what product I need to achieve the effect I want or envision... I am having fun with the short do as well but miss my longer hair!

Where do you purchase these tiny flat irons? Mine is about an inch and a half and nearly impossible to use on two inches of hair!

goldie    Wow you have lots of hair!  Looking good!

kimbly  I still haven't found the right stuff to manage my hair? Mine is soooo curly, but I found that if I use a blow dryer it helps calm the curls.

Hiyas, here is my hair this week, just a little bit longer. I'm thinking if it were Summer, I'd just go au naturel with the hair at this point. But it's just way too cold for the bare head right now!!! I got two cute little hats at Kmart of all places, while looking for something else I bumped into them. I do always check out the hat section at any store LOL!

Annie- I am so jealous, you look so cute! My last TCH was 12/6. The H slows regrowth so I have about 1/8-1/4 of very sparse hair. I am also taking Arimidex which thins hair. It may be years before mine looks good. I'm glad I'm doing OK with my wig.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would chime in anyway.  I had my last chemo Dec. 11th 2008 and by the end of Jan. 2009 I had a good head of peach fuzz.  Have to admit though, I had actually grown fond of being bald.  No shampoo, no conditioner, no bad hair days.  Just slap on a wig and some makeup or a "chemo cap" and some just earrings and your off.  I never knew my hair added so much time to my daily routine.

My hair dresser said to come in when the hair was about 1 inch long (it's coming in very uneven) so she could trim up the ends so it wasn't quite so fuzzy/curly as it grew out.  But it sure is grey.  I always told my husband, when he was alive, that if I ever quit dying my hair I would shave it rather than let it grow out thru that ugly stage.  Maybe this is the time (or maybe not).

This is a good time to check with your insurance if you want to purchase an additional wig.  I just found out my benefits are annual per calender year.   One hair salon said I could put the benefit toward hair extensions... that would be cool to do while my hair grows out.

MrsChilicook, I'm glad that there are some people who grow fond of being bald. I wish I could have felt that way.  I HATED being bald more than anything.

Goldie, thanks for posting all the photos -- I loved seeing all the different "looks" that you have gone through. I have the same issue re: face looking rounder -- weight gain + short hair doesn't help matters.

Annie, your hair looks totally cute! I went out w/out my hat when I was at that length - but you're right, it was the middle of summer, in winter I'd probably be freezing.  Now I have about 4 inches of very thick curls, but my neck still gets cold sometimes because it's the only winter of my life without long hair covering it!

I really must take some pics - my hair looks totally crazy now. I'm going to ask my hairdresser to straighten it for me next weekend, just for the fun of it and to see how long it really is. I've never been one to spend time fussing with my hair -- and I've never wanted my hair to be straight -- but I may need to do something to get through the next few months of the Annie-wig look! But I'm not complaining -- for me, everything in life is better with hair.  (Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but it's true!)

Plakatakr, it is so nice to see you! I remember you from the Chemo board.

Thanks to you and Lorena both for saying I'm looking okay.

It's only cute from certain views, in others I look a little pointy headed.

I actually wore my short hair today at a birthday lunch for my niece! It took a bit of courage to do, I might have chickened out except it was so warm in the restaurant or I was having a hot flash or something.

When I was finally feeling cool again, I re-donned my cute hot pink hat again.

I thought maybe a couple people scanned me a little longish to decide whether I was just growing hair back or intended that look ...

But I'm not going to be paranoid here, just enjoy my hair, such as it is.

unique   Hey girl you look great your hair is really growing fast!  I say throw the hats to the ditch as soon as you can handle the cold!

Springtime  ... I like the hair style so much I'm going to my hairdresser next week to see if she can preform some magic on me and show me how to work my hair in that direction!  I wanted to share the pic on the board because it is such a cute short short hairstyle that would work for us girls with our new growth of hair.
