Mine is growing in, and very very short where bangs should be, and more hair other places. It is quite uneven. Oh well, at least it is covering my head....

    Hi ladies,

A question please.  I am 14 weeks post chemo. I have about 1/4" hair, mostly greyish-white with a little dark brown. I am still wearing my wig and expect I will need it for another couple of months. I just joined a gym near my home. I was having great success working out at a gym near the hospital during radiation and wanted to continue.  My problem is what to wear on my head at my local gym. I was going without hat or wig at the gym where I didn't know anyone. Now, I'll likely bump into aquaintances who don't know about my dx and I wouldn't mind keeping it that way. But I don't want to sweat in my wig, and if I take a Pilates class, it might fall off my head while I'm laying down and getting up. I used a runners type of hat at the old gym, but would eventually get hot and take it off, but again didn't mind because I was anonymous there. It's not that I'm terribly vain, I think since finishing treatments I want to move on so desperately and my hair doesn't quite allow me to do this yet.  Any suggestions??

    Thanks,

    Diane

I would think that anything on your head would get too hot if you are really working. Having said that, I wore "do-rags" from sparklingearth.com all last summer. They had a nice terrycloth band in the front to absorb the sweat and they have some that are designed for hot weather, so maybe you could find something there. I did soak mine in water and then wear them when I was at the kids' swim meets and it was over 100!

Here's a link to some mesh ones, maybe they would work.

Diana, let me know what you decide on. I am still wearing my wig, but even when walking it is getting hot. I walk in the neighborhood. I am thinking of just keep wearing the wig until April/May and then I won't be able to stand it any more, and I'll just go cold turkey.

I don't know. This is another difficult transition! Let me know if you try Revkat's do-rag idea!

I wore Buffs and left my wig in the box. Checkout www.planetbuff.com They are amazing plus they have multiple uses...tube shape so you can wear as hear cover, neck gator, headband etc etc etc. They come in every color and pattern imaginable. The even have a special support the cause section with Buffs in BC fabric. They come in many different weight fabrics including UV protected. Machine washable and regular dry. No worries about them slipping off either. I swear by them!

    Good Luck

Mom_of_2 - Thanks so much. I just checked out planetbuff's website and this looks perfect. I just ordered two. I like the idea that I can use them in so many different ways. Revkat - your suggestion looks good too. I'm going to try the buffs first and see how it goes. This board is so awesome to get us through every step of this journey. I appreciate your help.

Hair - at various stages - to give you gals hope for hair! The first one is Jan. 18th, Second is Jan. 31st, Third is February 20th. 2 months post last infusion, 2 weeks later, 3 months post. It's not really longer looking, but it is - now 1 inch long but it's not quite ready for spiking. It's a lot thicker and if it were warmer, would go without hat outside. Sometimes the head is even cold inside ... I think it's looking pretty cute!

I need to get back to the gym and am worried about the same thing.... I don't think I am vain either but really just don't want to have to explain when I see people that I know there.

Which Buffs did you guys order??

I ordered the original Buffs after I bought a couple at my local REI and loved them. They were even comfortable in the infusion chair for hours on end because of the way they can be pulled and twisted...there isn't a knot digging into your head. Also go UV protection for sun time. Best part is they wash beautifully.

Hello all,  it's so good to try to keep up with all of you although I don't get to post often.  I see the conversation is about Buffs.  I loved mine and bought them at www.planetbuff.com also.  It was the best thing last summer when I took the grandchildren to the amusement park.  I was only up to riding a few of the rides but I was comfortable and didn't have to worry about my head covering flying away.  I couldn't have taken a chance on losing the wig.  Since it was summer, I bought the UV buff.  My plan was to wear them to the gym but I never got there.  A friend said  she uses hers as a sweat band at the gym.  I'll get there yet.

I second everything mom_of_two said about them.

Good grief where are my hair pics? I was sure I d/l them huh. Either chemo brain or a burp in the BC site programming ... Anyway here I try again ...

    Jan 31stFeb 20th

First is Jan 31st, about 2 months after last infusion. Second is Feb 20th, 3 months after. Really can expect first month for more hair to drop out, as chemo is working in the body from that last infusion. Then a month for the hair to grow maybe a half inch. Then another month for another half inch. My hair is about an inch long now. I realize I never took a photo of that last hair loss, just too awful to describe LOL! Like "Beetlejuice" heh heh.

The don't look too different, but the Feb. pic is much thicker, not much add'l length but a whole lot thicker, and cuter if I may say so myself.

BTW, love the Buffs but not sure how to use them for myself. Am exercising at home on the Wii FIT, will start outside when it gets warmer, walking mostly, but may just go bearheaded or with a brimmed hat. They are sooooo cute, though! I want one!

I have a couple of Buffs and they are great.  I have worn then UNDER a baseball cap, when the back of my head had no hair.   Rei has them and you can try them on if you ask one of the clerks.   Since my head is totally covered with hair, maybe half an inch long, I am going au natural unless the temp is below freezing.

i think you have to post digital photos on a place like photobucket.  you upload an image from your computer and a box appears with 4 options when you click on the photo.

here, you click the little tree in the reply box, and a box appears with an opportunity for you to post the address (not the image link the 'direct' link) of your uploaded photo in the 'image URL' box...,, this forum links to the address and your photo appears.

i'm not the best at directions tho and may have eliminated a step

ps.. you look good without the buffs.  love the hair

Oh, Deb - my last hair went away AFTER my last chemo - I didn't even take a pic I was so bummed. I call it my "Beetlejuice" period. I had "Donald Trump," "Zero Mostel," then "Beetlejuice." Now I have "Mia Farrow." I was so bummed I bought three new hats. That cheered me up because I LOVE hats.

As it happens, I went to a party last night, and the ONLY photo of me was this one. But it shows my curly hair!

Obviously, I've cropped the extraneous other people from the photos. No need to show my friends in various stages of inebriation.

Nancy D, your hair looks great! I can't WAIT to ditch this wig, the more hair I get the more uncomfortable/itchy/annoying it gets!

I just finished rads this past week, so went to see my ONC about bloodtests to see what's next.

I was taking my wig off right and left in the cancer center to show everyone my HAIR!!! I had to appoligize to those waiting in the chemo queue, as I popped my Wig off to show one of the nurses there who was giving me a hug... and explained how exciting it was to get hair after being bald. Of course, they could relate!

:)  Curls would be so cool...

It amazes me how we all look the same. Stand us side by side, and take a pic of the backs of our heads, and see if you can tell who is who! Not sure I would be able to pic my own self out!
