kat and ladies at the same stage - you look great and good for you going topless. I just want to mention that you could experience major curling in the next couple of months as your hair lengthens, especially on top. So you might want to think about how you will manage the curls phase; embrace them, cut them, straighten them?

I am about 10 months PFC. As long as the sides keep growing in curly, I will keep shaving them off. Cool Now I am trying to see how high I can grow the ridge...

Kat, you look a lot like a girl I worked with 20 years ago (only prettier) and she had hair like you have now, but on purpose, not from chemo. You look good.

Artsee-It's kinda strange. I knew about the testing but my mo never mentioned it. I liked my mo but he was not aggressive at all, and looking back I should have switched doctors. He thought that bmx was too radical, as I was pushing for one (strong family history) and wanted a hysterectomy. After I finished treatment I knew I would go get tested at some point and wanted a hysterectomy before I turned 40 as I was 36 then. Well, time got away from me and my second diagnoses showed up before I did any of it. My mo this time is very aggressive, I feel like if I had him the first go around I may not be going through this again, but what can you do? Sounds like you worked alot more than I did! I got so hot in my wig and was miserable at work, although my clients were wonderful and always made me in a better mood. Although they always wanted to talk about me and I didn't want to!

Eyelash question! I think my eyelashes are trying to grow in and they itch like crazy, I can't stand it. I can see the short little stubs. Did anybody elses eyelashes bother them while they were growing back in? Its like they are growing towards my eyes instead of out!

Wow everyone looks great! Kat you'll love the short hair.

I'm still buzzing mine and keeping it short. Granted I never did quite go poodle. I think it would be more like Bo (Obama's portuguese water dog) if I let it grow.

bak94 I have heard of some women having issues with their lashes growing wierd. If you think  they are ingrown or going the wrong way I would talk to your onc or a dermotologist. Some of mine at first grew in a little strange but eventually it got better… granted I'm still waiting for my brows and lashes to thicken up and my nails to improve. I think I'm just slow to recover from chemo in all areas except my hair.

DLL66 You look like a punk rockstar with  your hair. Very expressive.

Thank you again everyone. I really appreciate the confidence boost before going back to work tomorrow.  Artsee, maybe I've misunderstood "topless" all along.  I guess I likened it to going natural, without a scarf or a wig or whatever.  I think I'm at the point where I don't need to 'cover up' anymore.  Here's hoping I look even more feminine when I have makeup on too (the last pic was taken on a lazy Saturday morning).

Racy, great point.  My hair has been curly - really curly, like mind-of-its-own curly - all my life.  It's been very strange not to have to fuss with this too much.  I do still have a ton of product from my long-haired life (gels, pommades, creams, etc.) and am not afraid to use it!  I also think it helps to have a good hairstylist who can help with different styles to get through the awkward phases.  So, that's the plan for now!

    DLL66, LOVE your style!

My husband said to me this morning, "I think you should stop wearing your wig to work in the next couple of weeks"

I finally feel like I have hair.

Racy, yep. That is how I wear it. I'd love to have an edgy/chic chin-length bob, so I am trying to let the top grow out first. Figured I might as well have some fun with it along the way!

    Go for it, mccrimmon324!

Kay, if I looked that good with short hair, I would have ditched the wig sooner.

Ladies, I am very excited as I am getting my hair extensions at 8 am on Tuesday! (hopefully :-) )

I wear my hair in a mohawk, too.  Felt exactly the same, I mean heck.  I don't always spike mine up, but it's shaved up and pretty rad.  I get tons of compliments.  My hair has been SO SLOW.  But it's in, and all the curl is out, thankfully.  I hated the texture.

I NEARLY ditched the wig this morning for work ... but then chickened out.

It has been my plan to wear the wig until the end of this week.  After that I have 3 weeks holiday for Christmas.  That means 4 more weeks of hair growing before rocking the short look at work.

DLL66 I am loving the hair! Ltothek I think that is so great that you are using the mohawk solution as well. If I don't like the sides as they come in I'm going to do the mohawk as well. For now I'm having fun with my buzz cut. The other day my boyfriend said he thinks he will miss my shaved head. Lol who knew.

KiwiMum that is great that you almost went without your wig. You should drive to a different part of town - where you don't know anyone...and go shopping without your wig. You will love it. The only time I felt uncomfortable was when I had to run into the store - on a school night - to pick up shampoo and conditioner for my son. It didn't hit me until I was waiting in line - bald - at night - with only my shampoo and conditioner - that I looked a bit odd. Thank God I wasn't at Walmart - I would probably be on that people of Walmart site.

    Howdy!

This is only my second post total, but I've been lurking since May.

I had chemo from May 12 to Oct. 6 (Dose Dense AC 5x and Taxol/Carobplatin 8x) then Uni NSM (left) with Immediate Foob on Dec. 12. I go to my PS tomorrow...praying the drain comes out!

I never wore a wig or scarves, etc...went for the bald look...like my DH...hee!

At first, I was nervous going out but no one paid me never mind. Some people actually complimented me on my "daring" style.

I really disliked losing my eyebrows and eyelashes more than my hair. Wearing glasses made it a bit less noticeable. They have grown back in...Yeah! I sure hope they dont fall back out.

So...I am 8 weeks PFC and my hair is about a half inch long but you can still see my scalp through it. I cannot WAIT until I have thicker coverage.

Y'all are such a big help...seeing how you are doing. My question...everyone talks about looking at each others photos, but I don't see them. Are they in a different post somewhere?

    Smiles!

Welcome Geegster!  I know what you mean about losing the eyelashes and eyebrows!  I wore contact lenses for decades but switched to my glasses during chemo (the lenses were bugging me) and the glasses definitely helped hide the missing lashes and brows.

The photos are in this thread, just look back several pages and you'll see pictures interspersed with all the messages.  Once someone posts a new picture, there may be a whole page of encouraging comments, because we are all so nice to each other!!!  And all in the same boat, waiting patiently for our beloved locks to reappear.  Here's one that shows my hair progression to get you started:

Luvring-great photos! You look great! I am now 7.5 weeks pfc and hair is taking its grand time coming in.

My eyelashes are driving me crazy! They are coming in all at once, a nice neat row, but they are making my eyes itch and water. If it is not one thing it is another. My eyes are still very sensitive from the abraxane, which made my eyes water constantly. It doesn;t seem like a big deal but it is! Between the eyes and the drains from my bmx I am about to go out of my mind! Sorry for being negative on this very positive thread but I needed to vent! I go to the mo on wed and will find out what I can do and I should get the drains out on thursday!

bak94 - I'm so sorry your having a rough time but in a week or two all of your lashes will be in long enough to not bother you and the drains will be gone.  I had a 1 drain with my lumpectomy and that was horrendous, I can't imagine more.  I'm 12 weeks PFC tomorrow and today I notice when I put mascara on I can actually see that my lashes are just about as long as they use to be.  My eyebrows are still white, short and stick straight out of my head.

Great pics LuvRVing. I am 11 weeks PFC and have a similar amount of hair to you. I need to take another pic.

Mccrimmon - wow mascara!! I have little lashes but haven't tried putting mascara on yet. I'm going to a wedding on Thursday and am going to do it then.

Smithy - people at walmart website ... ha ha ha ... thanks for the awesome visual image and Laugh!

I went to the health club during my lunch hour today like I always do ... except today I went topless.  (Ha ha that sounds risque!)  The ladies at the desk said "OMG, I love your hair cut!"  I said, thanks, it's really a growing in, not a cut.  They were so sweet - wow, it looks so cute ... blah blah blah.  Feeling more and more confident every day with this new do. (Took me 5 months PFC to do it!)

    Mccrimmon - go for it!

Kiwimum - Give yourself the week and then take baby steps over the break.  You will be so confident by the time you go back!  You'll do great!
