Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I had been thinking of calling for an appointment for this weekend to see what my stylist can do about my hair - maybe a keratin treatment - but Murphy got in the way. Our a/c went out Monday, and I expect the repair will cost a bundle. But after 2 nights of not sleeping, the hair is suddenly a low priority :-/
Rocket, thanks - the frizz doesn't show up very well in the photo, but trust me, it's there! I use a blow dryer to straighten out the top and front, but if I let it dry naturally, I look like that deranged poodle you talked about :-)

Gemmie, I know what you mean about the short cut being annoying. Those short hairs are itchy! But it is less traumatic than seeing handfuls of hair fall, especially from the top. I notice alot that alot more hair has fallen off the top since the buzz cut.
jpmomof3, thanks for the brow and lash info. I had no idea that they would take that long to fall out!
Has anyone tried brow pencil and/or fake lashes? I have never been big on makeup but since I teach I want to look as "normal" as possible.
I like JoanQuilts analogy of hair and weight! It is so true!

Hikergirl I also know what you mean about this short stubble, itchy and prickly - just wish they would all fall out and be done with it.
Think I am on about the same schedule as you = had my first treatment on the 22 of june and my next one is this Friday.....am feeling wonderful today.

Hikergal, im a make-up junkie. Ha ha. Highly recommend Anastasia brow duo. I also like Anastasia brow wiz pencil. You can get both in Sephora. They really helped me feel/look pretty good when brows thinned (mostly during and after taxol).

Hikergal - I learned how to pencil in eyebrows at the Look Good Feel Better class. I haven't had to do that because I ended up getting semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos...which was so worth the money. I am 6 weeks PFC and still have some eyelashes and eyebrows but they are very thin. My tattoos make it look like my brows are normal and I just use a little eyeliner to mask the thin eyelashes. I bought some fake eyelashes but haven't had to use them yet!
So I only have a little bit of fuzz starting on my head. I have been using olive oil at night and nioxin in the morning. Before chemo my hair grew really fast...hoping it takes off soon!

Can anybody recommend when I can start coloring? My hair is coming in really gray, and I know it will show a whole bunch more if I can color it. I have 4 more Taxols left out of twelve.

Sissydi, I've read that some ladies colored their hair as soon as it started to come in. I colored mine at 4 months PFC, using a semi-permanent color that is supposed to last about 4 weeks (my hair does not hold DIY color very well, so mine faded more quickly).

I colored my hair about 3 weeks after it started growing in, but I was finished with chemo. If you're still on chemo, I think you should ask your doctor or chemo nurse.

Sissydi....when my hair was coming back I dyed it with hemp hair dye. It helped make it look fuller. It made me feel better.

Mizmarie.....anything sleek and shine products help with the frizzy look!!!!!!

Sissydi - I agree with Luv about checking with your onc first. I colored mine at about 3 months PFC.

So it's okay to color hair post chemo? I am considering using one of those "last for 28 shampoos" colors. (I am 8 weeks PFC).

I am going to see my youngest DD (after EIGHT years) this Saturday...curious to see what her reaction will be to her gray, short haired Mother!!! Hope she doesn't laugh, or worse, cry!

Joan, I used an ammonia free 28 shampoo color at 4 weeks. Just couldn't look at the grey. It doesn't am to have damaged my hair at all - its thick and healthy looking now at 23 weeks pfc, just too short and curly for my taste so im still wearing wig.

Joan... Youcan get a 28 wash colourfrom Sally'y beauty...No peroxide, no ammonia... premixed .. all you do is shake, cut the tipoff bottle and colour..It's called Ion color brilliance,, comes inseveral colours.. I just had my first permanent highlights (eight months PFC) been using 28 wash colour since i had "fluff"

I used permanent color at 13 Weeks.

I've got to do something re colouring. So much gray that I never even knew was there prior to losing my hair. Now I new I had gray because I dyed it to cover the roots. I just didn't realize how much! Oh well, if my hair wasn't growing I would never know this right?

My daughter saw my buzz cut last night and thinks I would look good with spiked hair. Told her that from what I hear it will be like like as it grows back in!
Love 74 thanks for the tips! Did not know about the semi-permanent brows. And the eyeliner sounds like a good idea. I dont' usually use it because I think it makes me look like a freak but I bet the added color will give the illusion of lashes.
Shore1 thanks for your tips too. Good to know there are options out there!!
Ellendoo, Yes the "good week" was awesome, looking forward to having another one in a couple of weeks. Came home yesterday from 2nd tx and felt really worn out with huge circles under my eyes. Feeling better today but I know that is the steroids giving me a good day.

Hikergal, I don't usually wear make-up, but when the lashes went, I got an eyeliner. Although I am blue-eyed and fair, I got black. Because I am useless atputting the stuff on, I found this great one from L'Oreal that is like a felt-tip marker, called "infallible, never fail eyeliner." Very easy to use. It really did help.

I colored with a temp color and just left it on longer - it's a 28 shampoo one. I found that if you use a tooth brush, or something similar when you apply around the hairline, it looks perfectly natural. With the hair being so short, it is very easy to get dye on your scalp..so it looks like you painted your head...lol with a small brush, you can really be very precise with the dye especially around the ears and "bang" area. There are some root dyes that are out that have a blue brush to apply the dye with - that brush is awesome. I kept one from before chemo and i just use it with the temp color and rinse it out.

I think I'm giving it a shot tomorrow. Sick of the gray big time. Love the "bang" area LOL!

Love74 where did you get your semi permanent brow tattoo done? I have been using Mary Kay Lash and Brow serum since my 3rd round of TCH and so far my brows and lashes are hanging in (i only have one treatment left!) but my brows have always been thin and light colored for my hair/skin tone.
A friend of mine did the tattoo eyeliner and I was not a big fan of that. They could not get it close enough to the lash line for it to look good in my opinion but I guess you can still use a liner to fill in, although, I guess it might also depend on the tattoo person!! LOL

mt4ever - I got it done at a cancer salon called Compassionate Beauty. It was expensive but probably a lot cheaper in the US. My brows are hanging in as well but really thin...without the tattoos I would definitely look like I had been through chemo. My lashes are thin too but evenly spaced across my lid!! I'm 6 weeks PFC today so I'm hoping the start growing back soon.

Love74 mine seemed to come back almost overnight maybe starting around 8 weeks PFC. Now it's all back...chin hairs and all! Haha.

megs986 - what about the hair on your head? I still only have a bit of fuzz that is about 1/8" long.

That seemed to take off at once too, think around the same time of brows/lashes! I finished chemo Feb. 27th and I have maybe an inch of hair now. But I started taking biotin, not sure if that helped but things seemed to really progress at that point. I'd say PFC I was prob around where you are. Had this fuzz forever and then it seemed to fill in and be real hair all of the sudden.

Yay...can't wait!

Ok - I think I've got this ... here is my hair story ... just passed 1 year PFC a few days ago...
5 months PFC 7 months PFC
9 months PFC 10 months PFC
couldn't resist the little pony at 11 months PFC
NOW:
1 year PFC
And why do I post these pics when I really HATE my short hair? For you my sisters (read it backwards) ...
